I've had a lot of trouble with upsetting. I've learned that a slight taper on the heated end of a bar helps keep the bulge concentric. My take away here is the upsetting plate. I'm gonna bolt one down to my anvil stump. Thank you!

You know what they say John "it's ok to get upset as long as you don't get All Bent about it" 😁😉

One of my first purposeful forgings. Using a crackerjack propane torch, I upset some 1/4" rod on the ends to produce hinge pins. In spite of being upset and a wee bit bent, they still haven't fallen through the hinge blocks!

Assuming the piece fits is there any reason I can't upset in a vice. I have a particular project in mind and it will either save a lot of time or ruin it so thought I'd ask here
