I had Michael Starbird as a TA for an Honors Calculus course I took at UW Madison in 1973-1974 time period and really enjoyed the course as well as his presentation. I plan on taking this course. I think the topic is right on. People do tend to think there is something magical about much that seems to be common sense and practical application. Maybe it is the effort involved that is the limiting factor.
I love that RUclips brought this to me and that the first thing I see is the most beautiful shape on earth: THE TRIANGLE. (Pythagoras rocked.) Edison said most people don't recognize genius because it's "dressed in overalls and looks like work." But working on something worthwhile is worth wearing overalls for. Genius may very well be 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. That's fine with me. I'll take as much as I can get of either if it produces better thinking and deeper understanding.
now if this course explains the logic behind ordinary differential equations, id be more interested. i have no idea how they used logic to discover that stuff.
The falling apple didn't inspire Newton to think of calculus--it gave him the seed of the idea for his theory of gravitational force. According to the legend, anyway :-)
+Matthew Case True, I meant I don't like that representation of "success", the course might still be great. I haven't done it because there's others on the waiting list.

I'm glad to see the courses as well!
What a wonderful opportunity to learn Math.
I love the twist near the end - who knew mathematicians could be so creative entertainment wise?
Great to see some good mathematics courses showing up on edX! (And I noticed the one on embedded systems too)

"Everyone likes magic. I think if you taught that instead, more people would sign up." 🙄🙃 Nice.
I wanted to take this course, but now it seems that it is not available. Is there any way to do it?
Agree 100%, prof. :)
Imagine sir

young feather
I totally feel the same way - I always want to know WHY it is the way it is.
I like you, so Yes for me!
:)
i too signed up!

Just the fact that they represent succes with money puts me off.
+chapeauelesmirriau weak reason to avoid the course.
