do you ever go from the end of the boom? so when you tack you have to put the line on the other sides jib sheet? and reverse the tiller lines? is this the way to go for off shore? thank you
I never attach a sheet-to-tiller line to the end of the boom. That can be too difficult to reach. This video is about downwind setup. We attach to the jib. My video on the upwind set up for self-steering attaches to the mainsheet but never the boom.
Ya! But i was just getting the hang of it at the end of our trip. I would definitely try it out where you are. That’s why I love that Ocracoke crossing so much. I get to practice holding a course for a long while. I practice at the lake too, but I have change the setup every time I tack. We also love to heave to all on the same tack near each others boats in a cluster and we talk over the water and swim even.
I think it would work if you attach the line to the active sheet on the leeward side. Two guys crossed the Atlantic in a J80 with sheet to tiller steering. ruclips.net/video/tUcYQCKP7CU/видео.html
You’re a hell a Sailor Pauli! Suave!
Nice, I Just discovered this way of steering a sailboat.
Do you think it's possible to do this in a Dingue? Using the sheet tied directly to the tiller?
Certainly! Yes! all you need is a tiller. However, if your dingue has no jib, heading downwind will not be as easy.
Great explanation of how sheet to tiller works. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
looking forward to experimenting with this, thanks so much
Thanks for watching.
Thankfully frm Bangkok
Great 👍

Did you use sheet to tiller on your Columbia?

Cool. Yep it sure would. Haven't seen that before. Makes me wanna try it! Thanks.
If you cant steer your camera ,your sailing creditability is at stake😢
Yea I don’t use GoPro much anymore. But my sailing credibility is never at stake.
