- Disney's "Encanto" is the story of a large Colombian family bound together by love and service to their community. But the Madrigals are no ordinary family. From the ability to heal to astonishing strength to speaking to animals, each Madrigal child's gift makes them exceptional -- each child except Mirabel, who for some reason was denied the magic that makes the rest of her family so special. "Encanto" is a heartwarming film the whole family can enjoy, but it's also filled with little touches that might go over the heads of the youngest in the theater. Here are a few things only adults noticed in "Encanto."

What are your thoughts on "Encanto"?
Encanto has a good lesson, for kids, teachers and parents
@@hax35507 u Rick rolled me I had to read it 2 times to see that you ware singing Rick astley
Hermosa 🥰
The one thing I love about Maribel. Is the fact that she's not a princess. That would makes her so relatable. And I wish Disney would do that more often.
I feel like frozen and up are like the best Disney princess movies cause it’s not mainly about falling in love and the classic stuff it’s more fun and some of these songs like surface pressure ,waiting on a miracle, and what else can I do talk about not feeling special or you don’t have to be perfect, and that people get put under pressure, a lot of these songs behind them explain things kid or other people go through and maybe will help them realize things if that makes since but I’m just saying I love these Disney heroines so much it’s more realistic but with magic but this is all just my opinion
Note that Mirabel said that Antonio likes animals way before he gotten his gift. So, perhaps the gift caters to each of their different personalities and interests, much like a career would develop.
👁️👁️ probs Bruno got his future seeing powers cuz he's been anxious since little. Worrying about his future his whole life
I think this is why Mirabel didn't get a gift in the same way the others did. All she's ever wanted is to help her family and she was able to do that by saving the family from itself. Then she is gifted with a repaired, better version of Casita and becomes the new heart of the family.
there’s theories of how the first children got their powers through what they thought about their old town’s destruction: Bruno being anxious about their future and him wishing the ppl of his town knowing about the fire beforehand , pepa thinking that if it only rained that day that the town would’ve been saved , and Julieta thinking that if someone stayed behind with the injured, they could’ve been saved
I mean, yes, definitely. All of the characters have a big attachment from their powers to their personality. Pepa experiences her emotions a little harder than anyone else, she gets angry or panics fast. Julietta is caring and loving, and she shows this by healing the ones she loves. Bruno is super super superstitious and while this may be related to the trauma of always being blamed for bad things, I think it's still worth a note. Isabella is mentioned to have been considered the perfect child ever since birth. Luisa deeply believes that if she doesn't help every singld way she can she's worthless, and like Bruno, this could be caused by previous expectations from her family. Dolores is shown to be a bit "gossipy" so her hearing power suits her well. The only one that I'm not really sure about is Camilo; Because while he does play a few tricks and is shown to be sarcastic at times and that could relate to his power, he is actually shown to care so so much about his family and even the village, and this is more the centerpiece of his character than being "mischievous" My personal theory is that he might be genderqueer and that's how it's interpreted, but I have nothing to back this up, so it's really just a theory. Anyways, their personalities, identities, beliefs, trauma and interests are definitely in relation with their powers. I'd also push it and say that Mirabel's gift would be a lot like Abuela's; it's not explicitly said that Abuela has a gift, but the creation of the house is definitely on her. I think that Mirabel's gift is a very close bond to the house's magic and it stems from her desire to protect her family, like her Abuela did. (sorry for this whole think piece lolol)
So why did Camilo get his gift- o_O
People calling Bruno or Abuela the villain really didn't get this movie at all. The only villain is generational trauma. Mirabel's mission was to reunite her uncle with the family and help them all overcome the trauma and pressure they put on themselves due to their gifts.
This! This is why I was sobbing the whole time. Such an important narrative in this movie.
Literally this movie hit home for me and I was crying all throughout it
Exactly
Most people must think Bruno is the villain because of how he is not on the family tree, showing the viewers that the Madrigals no longer consider him one of them. Also, in the song "We Don't Talk About Bruno", Pepa said that Bruno actually predicted that on their wedding day, there will be rain, the way Pepa states this, it makes us think that Bruno actually caused the rain, which he didn't.
Nah, Abuela is a villain. Just not a typical nor the over all one.
I don't know if anyone noticed but on the magical doors, only two characters have opened eyes: Bruno and Dolorez, which are the characters who are the most aware of their family situation.
WOAH THATS FREAKY
they are also the only ones not wearing peaceful or joyous expressions on the doors, besides abuela. i think the doors reflect how they feel
I think it has to do with how their powers are about “knowing” things ie Dolores hears everything so she knows all secrets and Bruno sees the future.
I think Luisas door has her eyes opened
@@walterdenesh923 I just looked at her poster again and no, she just have her lashes pointing up like Camilo.
I feel like Mirabel's gift was always the house. In the movie, Mirabel is the only one that the house listens to. I always thought Abuela's gift was the candle and the ability to give gifts to others, it's even on her room door. Mirabel didn't get a "door", because she got the whole house. When everyone runs for the candle, they all use their powers....Mirabel used the casita
It would make sense that her gift is in her connection to Casita because if you pay attention to how the character’s act with Casita, Mirabel seems to have the most love and respect for it. During the opening song, she says the names of 3 parts of the house, and Casita responds by moving those parts. Maybe she has influence over Casita? Maybe not. I also like the idea that she didn’t get a room because she has the entirety of Casita. But would that mean that *she* runs the *house* while Abuela runs the *family* ?
It's not true that the house only listens to Mirabel. The house listens to Abuela when she moves Mirabel away from Luisa during the breakfast/lunch scene.
@@Nexils only the 2 non gifted can commend castila
@@chocobibi5196 I am not sure if that's true, either. Casita brought all of them coffee and Luisa used Casita as a treadmill. Maybe 'command' is a big word, but I'm pretty sure Casita does it because Luisa asked it of her.
Omg, that last bit is SUCH a good point!!
Its refreshing to have a disney princess with some distinct physical features. We have Anna and Elsa who has freckles, Tiana with Dimples, Moana with one of the most realistic body before Mirabel.
Mirabel also has large eyebrows
Anna and Elsa are tall, pale, and willowy based on their Nordic features, Tiana with dimples are just universal features but she's the first Disney Princess to have them. Polynesians are built thick and are taller than most and Moana fits her body type. Maribel is short and her figure ranges from curvy to chubby which is how Colombian women are built!
Mirabel has some subtle freckles but also a big one for some kids who are self conscious about it which are glasses
I don’t think realistic is the right word, the bodies of skinny people are very real.
@@boglenight1551 Yeah but the bodies of the old disney princesses are unrealistic before Tangled came and got the right way of drawing a skinny person.
Mirabel is the cutest Disney princess. And here's another fact about her glasses: They're symbolic. They were part of her design from the beginning. They represent a perspective only she has. And they tie her entire design together perfectly.
she's not a princess, neither is moana, Pocahontas and Mulan
@@bigpulgalokes They're part of the Disney Princess lineup, and Mirabel will likely join as well.
@@bigpulgalokes cry harder
Honestly. I also think it’s a little something that shows she’s more outcasted, as none of the other Madrigals don’t have glasses (other than her father, of whom doesn’t have a gift either)
@@Fluorescent.mushrooms It's good Mirabel will not be one then, bye.
I really like how they didn't make Luisa too manly. She isn't made to wear pants and only obsess about getting stronger, she's able to wear a dress proudly and care about other things than being "the best of the best"
I understand but also that’s nothing new. Plenty of Disney women have gotten to have “masculine” traits while still being feminine, which is good for diversity but not when we don’t really have any super masculine women because then it’s unbalanced.
Having so many female characters with strong “masculine“ traits have feminine ones too sort of sends an idea that women have to “compensate” for deviations by being feminine.
Same! They did not try to make her masculine. They just let her be strong. That was part of her arc at the end "I'm strong, but sometimes I cry too." And that's okay. Everyone is a mixed bag. It was just really beautiful+
@@dinosaur___7209 or maybe it just shows that other people don't get to decide what kind of woman I can be.
@@lynnb2562 lol what 😂 you can be any type of woman you want to be, asking ppl to consider the reasons for why things are the way they are isn’t attacking you personally it’s just saying be aware. 😂 Like we weren’t raised in a vacuum, societal expectations affect us, which is why most women conform to what is expected, still don’t get what this has to do w my original comment though. Be any woman you want to be, but question everything about *why* you want to be whatever that is. *Why* does makeup make so many women feel better but not men etc etc 🤔
@@dinosaur___7209 or you could try to stop psychoanalyzing everybody and realize that some of us just are the way we are because we like it.
I loved that Louisa was a female character not just because it's refreshing to see the physically strongest character be a lady but also because her internal struggle (fulfilling impossible expectations, pressuring herself to be the "responsible woman", keeping the family "up", maintaining a strong facade no matter what) is something a lot of women battle with everyday. Men deal with pressure too, of course, but the self- inflicted expectations of being able to carry every emotional, practical, and mental burden for yourself and others is very real for most women, who end up feeling like they aren't good enough.
It meant a lot to be able to see these kinds of nuances in the film, especially since it's about my country!!!
Thanks for reading :D
i LOVED the fact that they also didn’t make luisas personal struggle “yeah i’m strong but I wAnT tO bE dAiNtY aNd GeT mArRiEd” and gave her like, a literal reasonable struggle that makes sense
I'd argue that is still more of a guy thing. I mean, the fear of being seen as weak and being scared of opening up because of that is pretty much the story of most guys suffering under toxic masculinity. Especially when they have to "Protect the family, do the work, be the strong one" that's very much a masculine stereotype.
That isn't to say that women don't feel that way. They do. I do. But I don't think it's true to say that it's more a woman than a man thing. At most it's equal.
I’d have to argue against that there. Men aren’t expected to even feel burdens and just shrug them off. There’s a lot less support in the world for men both emotionally and mentally and have a lot more pressure from societal norms.
@@Phoenix_NH True, the word "Just man up" when you're mentally struggling is only making things worse.
Both men and women feel pressure like this. I’m a woman, but this song made me think of how men are so often expected to be strong and lift everything and handle everything, no cracks, no mistakes.. it is very real for both genders
Self doubt, overworking yourself and trying to be perfect seem to be the 'antagonists' of the movie and that's so beautiful!
Sometimes the real enemy is yourself.
@@twstroastmemesfortoxicfans5705 I feel like the enemy is tradition and toxic societal expectations rather than "yourself"
and generational trauma mixed with no real healthy way of coping
While this is true, many people don't realize that the REAL antagonist to Encanto is what could've been the Nazis (I'm not sure) who chased away the family an all those other people.
And also how the film sets up Bruno as the main antagonist by the use of green, using the disney tradition to make you think that he is a villain, then you meet him and he's the cutest cinnamon roll ever
*yes*
Yes i think so too! When i see bruno's colour theme i always reminded of disney's classic villain. Maybe they want to break that?
I don’t know whatever Disney made people think about him, but I loved the pre-reveal Bruno and I didn’t even think that he could be a villain, but I love really really love pure green, even “evil” one, but only when it’s actually pure, like no combination with other colors
Not everyone who uses an evil-looking lighting is evil.
The real 'antagonist' to Encanto are the soldiers who killed Pedro and chased everyone away. (They might've been the Nazis but there is no way to be sure)
I really like how Disney had changed their representation. Breaking gender roles, having independent women with no love interest, more three dimensional "bad guys" more cultures and races, characters have have real life emotions, thicker characters with more flaws. I love it!
ikr. Disney be real improving
Well if you want all that. I suggest you watch anime, they have really good 3 dimensional bad guys

@@jrhulkyolo2105 They do, they do… but a lot of them seem to use the same evil cube. Encanto is proof that a movie doesn’t need a traditional “villain” to be a great movie, and it was indeed a GREAT movie.
When you were talking about how Lin Manuel Miranda wrote the songs, I instantly thought of how in both Non-Stop from Hamilton and We Don’t Talk About Bruno in Encanto have multiple people singing at the same time, voices overlapping at different speeds, yet it all fits together. That’s what I thought of when I first watched the movie as well
In the heights (another one of his musicals) has the same thing. Someone joked it's how you know Lin was involved.
@@ohhi7168 Which song? I only listened to some of them
Lin's music and style is really hard to miss once you start listening to it!
Same!
I thought of “Breathe” from Lin’s play -In The Heights- , was kinda of like “Waiting on a Miracle” and “Hurricane”
I've always seen Mirabel's real gift as her connection the the Casita (other people talk to it to but she's clearly the one who's the most in tune with it) and her ability to bring all these different family members together. It's not magic but it's still a gift that she has
The thing you pointed out actually lies within the real gift she has: she is the only one who can and who will succeed Abuela as "leader" of Madrigal family, that's why she is so in tune with the Casita. She indeed is a integral part of it, the real core and essence, just because of the role she will be charged of and she is destined to. The whole movie is about change, transformation ( the golden butterfly ) and , most of all, about the dualism between tradition ( represented by Abuela) and innovation ( Mirabel, of course ). That's not to say that you're wrong, I just wanted to explain the reason of the connection between the casita and the main character!
The best part was when Mirabel's father says: Miercoles. I really thought he was going to say: "Mierda", wich is spanish for "Shit". I was the only one laughting at that in cinema. One of those things kids probabily wont understand, but it's funny to adults.
Has to be a nod to Juanes, that’s the first thing that went through my mind after hearing it
@@Ymacerino No nod to Juanes. He used that in a song, inspired in many other songs, that at the same time also took that expression from common folk cursing expressions.
"Miércoles" is an extremely common replacement for "Mierda" in Colombia. We use it all the time. That scene was very funny for me
@@vcaro12 We do say that in Spain too, I was laughing my ass off
We say miercoles as a euphemism for mierda here in Puerto Rico too

As an animation nerd and someone hoping to go into the industry someday, I can explain why it's so rare for characters to have glasses: it is HARD to render transparent frames, even in 2D animation.
I thought it was used to help make a cartoon character look stereotypically smart 🤔. Like Velma in Scooby-Doo.
@@saiberunato glasses are also used for that, yes. Especially in older entertainment, glasses in character design generally indicate intelligence, or, more accurately, a stereotypical dorky nerd character who would be useless if not for their intelligence
That was my guess. That in animation it would he difficult to do.
Keep in mind animators get laid off frequently to avoid paying royalties! Very glad my husband didn’t make it and got out of that industry, a friend who is an animator couldn’t do it if his wife didn’t have a steady job.
@@EmP-2022 Probably one of the reasons why so much animation work for American companies is farmed out overseas to foreign animators, particularly Asian animators.
Now that I think about it, Isabela's whole arc in this film is the entire plot of Frozen in 10 minutes.
Frozen but it's actually good, and in 10 minutes.
Shots fired.
I agree lol 😂
When I heard “what else can I do” I immediately thought of “let it go”
They are similar in the expectation to be perfect, and fear of hurting their family/kingdom if they can’t keep up the act.
Except there are some deeper aspects of Elsa’s character, like how she is ostracized, and isolated, and believes her powers to be bad/evil. That’s what makes “let it go” so powerful- she realizes that who she is and the power she has isn’t something bad and destructive, but good and beautiful.
Even though there was no actual villain. Abuela's trauma made her toxic and triangulate her family. This movie is progressive because it shows that duality in human nature. Toxic people are neither good nor bad but they themselves are a victim of circumstances.
It is not "neither good nor bad", it is "both good and bad," I believe.
The real villain is intergenerational trauma
@@Meraxes6 this!

As a Colombian, I approve of this movie. Also, I just saw It just yesterday and oh man, what a deep movie it is! it has a very sophisticated narrative, It has several layers of human complexity. Most of all I applaud that includes one universal element but particularly critical for all Colombians: the acknowledge of the past and present phenomenon of the forced displacement of entire towns and communities. In Colombia, this, unfortunately, has happened since the very beginning, since the encounter with the Spaniards, during the independence wars, during the "violence" in the first half of the 20th century and lastly, during the right-wing and fascist governments of the 21st century.

A thing I noticed when watching Encanto while pregnant: the flashback where Alma is seen giving the news to Pedro that she is expecting triplets via an origami is super cute, but how would she know? It happens in a village 50 years prior to the main setting of the story, where the most advanced technology we see is an analogic alarm clock: there is no chance she got an ecography. In old times it was probably not impossible for a skilled obstetrician to determine how many babies was a woman expecting, either by the heartbeat or the fetal movements, but only in an advanced stage of pregnancy, and it can be seen that Alma's belly is still flat in that scene, so no way she would know so early on.
I was watching the movie with my parents and they said the same thing at that part lmao
Yes! The true miracle of this movie is Alma knowing so soon and giving birth to triplets, with no complications and they didn't need NICU time or anything else. Also, how do you carry 3 babies like she did out of the city? And they slept through the whole thing?!?
@@littlemissmel88 yep, back then if a mom was expecting triplets it was pretty sure that at best one of the four of them would not make it, if not all four. So yep, that's the biggest miracle of the movie!
Maybe she had a dream about the three. Magical Realism... Also something that happens in other cultural, religious experiences... Receiving answers during dreams
I dont know if she was telling Pedro that she had 3 babies but maybe more on how many kids she wanted?
This was the most human relatable movie Disney has ever made! The message behind Luisa's song is so powerful! And it was a perfectly fitting metaphor for the unseen weight and pressure women carry for their children and family...It's often not talked about but it's there. I LOVE that the villain of the story was not a person but rather a conflict between people because that is real life!
Luisa is strong because women in Colombia usually carry hard task regardless, they are roll up sleeve strong because a lot of times they were the ones carrying the entire weight of the family. As an older sister she had the generational obligation to keep together the younger siblings. I loved how this movie portrait my family jow we often Forget that we are not alone and carry so much weight for our family. I go on and on but all I can say is that this movie went beyond and also show Colombia as a big family that needs to heal and rebuild. This movie works on sooo many leves. I also loved to see the name of my country on the big screen. Colombia te quiero tanto!🇨🇴❤
Exactly. Like many cultures where the women do the agricultural work among other physical labors
I believe Mirabel will assume the role as head of family after Abuela passes away. She will continue to protect the family’s miracle and help new family members receive their gifts.
That would also make for a more novel version of a sequel. Instead of the obligatory few months/one year later style with the characters being more or less similar to their first movie roles, we could actually have it set maybe a couple of decades later with Mirabels generation now the elders and the new generations making their marks again. Possibly even with an intrusion from the outside world into their magical refuge (reflecting more intergeneration troubles).
Yeah I think the same thing and then when someone doesn't get a gift they will know that they are the next to hold the magic
I have to say that as someone with glasses, myself, I really love that throughout the movie, Mirabel struggles to keep her glasses on her face when things get more adventurous. So completely relatable. I felt her pain. lol
Love that this movie has no antagonist.
The trailers totally didn't make me think it was the one time we saw Bruno, that'd he be the villain somehow
I saw the Abuela as the secret symbolic villain of the movie when I watched it; I was glad they all reconciled by the end
The antagonist was their own insecurities which is even more realistic than a villain

Here are my thoughts:
Alma (the Abuela) was sorta the movies antagonist (not going to say villain). Before anyone argues about it please take note of this: there can be people in families who are essentially the bad guy a lot, even if they are meaning well. Through most of the movie, Alma is more harsh with Mirabel than anyone else in the family. Mirabel brings up during the celebration that the house was breaking and the candle almost went out, Abuela takes her seriously at first, but after it seems everything was okay she decides to pull the "My granddaughter is tipsy" card. She was told by Julieta to be easy on Mirabel, then after the ruined dinner engagement party she's told by both Julieta and Agustin that she's too harsh on Mirabel. Great example being Isabel and Mirabel bonding before Alma gets mad at only Mirabel saying she ruined her sisters. Alma knew the magic was starting to fade before Mirabel did, but to keep up her reputation she (as we see towards the climax) blames Mirabel for everything because she's the only grandchild that is different. Only after Mirabel tells her grandmother off that it's actually her fault and not Mirabel's does Alma finally see how she's been to everyone, especially Mirabel. That's when she stops being the antagonist. While she's not a villain, she still did a lot of things to her family that hurt them.

Also loved learning the yellow butterflies symbolize how conflict and love can come together.
Abuela: criticises mirabel for not having a gift
Also abuela: has no gift
Mirabel posseses some of her families gift:
She healed her family (mom's gift)
She kinda saw the future too because she first saw the cracks (Bruno's gift)
She can communicate with animals, eg. the bird inside Bruno's room (Antonio's gift)
She's strong willed (Luisa)
She's smart (Isabela)
She doesn't have a "gift" and so does Abuela Alma right? (Not sure though)
In the scene where they sing about Bruno, he is actually listening to them. If you go to the part where Dolores was singing and look at the balcony, you can see a shadowy figure in the background. I assume that it is Bruno.
Yes! I was thinking that Luisa would've just stay as concept art and they'll have scrap her design for a more 'feminine-looking character' , I'm glad that the team was allowed to animate this great woman and show diversity in body types.
This was one of the best movie I watched in recent years.
can we say that the animation in this movie is insanly good, just watch the way the dresses flow and move, its crazy good.
A detail I would like to add is that in Colombia one says I knock wood when you say something you don't want to happen to you in the future
We do this in Bulgarian culture too!
@@sinyabun Every culture does this really lmao i'm a white American and I dont know a single person ive met who doesnt know the saying
I do this in my family! Though I’m from america. I do it often still
I don't think that just in Columbia, my family says it all the time and we're Mexican
We need a Hispanic/Latino princess period. I’m happy we are getting more representation, however we need a princess. It would mean so much to this community
Elena of Avalor is a great Disney princess. It’s not a movie though, it’s a series on Disney Junior.
Yeah like a pre-colonial America type of story set in ancient Aztec, Maya or Inca
@@joekerr5418 kinda remids me of El Dorado! buuut, pre-colonial natives aren't latinos. Neither are the conquistadors. It's the mix of both races & cultures.
No we don't, we had a bit of a disagreement with Spain a while ago about royalty lol
She is a princess, she will actually be the new queen/town leader
"The middle sister Luisa" Luisa literally has a whole musical number about her struggle to be the eldest daughter.
She actually is the middle, she's 19 while Isabella is 22 and Mirabel is 15. She just says she's "older," as in older than Mirabel.
Shes cannonically the middle. She has a song about holding the familys pressures, not the being the eldest
It was confirmed by the writers that she is the middle child lmao
She's literally the middle sister
the line is “give it to your sister your sisters *older*” not the oldest.
and from what we see from isabel, she isnt giving her problems to luisa. she keeps them deep down and doesnt talk about it. either way luisas song is about how shes under so much pressure because thats what they expect from her.
Wait so if mirable’s mom can heal you with food…. How did Mirabel’s eyesight not get healed?
HAH-
Well her mom can only heal injuries and so that that
Lol
They didn't prevent that guy from growing a gut or the priest from losing his hair, so I think innate genetic stuff is untouchable lmao
If genetic diseases are a no-go, what about cancer? And diabetes? Would that be unhealable?
I love most of these things but, describing Mirabel as being the ONLY Disney main character to wear glasses just simply isn't true. Some prime examples are:
1. Milo from Atlantis: The Lost Empire
2. Carl Fredricksen from UP
3. Sadness from Inside out
(and yes Sadness is listed as a main character in the movie).
the video didnt say she was the only disney main character with glasses. they said shed be the only disney PRINCESS with glasses (which is true)
@@hypomanix she's not a princess
@@alexa.9923 there’s a line of characters that Disney refers to as Disney Princesses, including some characters that aren’t quite princesses such as Moana and Pocahontas (who are chiefs which aren’t quite princesses)
@@isabelhendricks2084 yeah but I kinda hate that. They just aren't princesses.
Didn’t they say one of the few/only?
I think that Mirabel was very well shown as "weaker" than the rest of her family because she did not get a gift because she is seen as shorter than the rest of her family and her glasses.
Well, she's short because she is the second youngest after Antonio, who is the youngest. Mirabel is supposed to be 14 or 15 years old. Girls reach their maximum height around age 18. Luisa is 18, and Isabella is 21. Dolores is a year younger than Isabella, and Camilo is a year younger than Luisa. This is all according to a book called "The Art of Encanto".
How about the Dolores and how she spys on everyone in town? especially her fiancé?
Yeah creepy but I will let it slide a bit because she literally can't help it. I think she should be a detective tbh
She can't help it. Also, she's a young person with a crush. I think it's safe to say that anyone crushing on someone has had facebook stalked, tried to talk to, and listen in about them to learn more. I think with everything she hears, she would naturally turn her ear to listening on the guy she likes. And he didn't seem too creeper out by it 😂
I think we all have that nosey cousin who knows all the gossip 🤣
i think these things could be noticed by anyone, not just adults.
((also it isn’t hard to just pronounce names and word as they’re pronounced))
Luisa was inspired by female heavyweight lifter, Maria Isabel Urrutia, who gave Colombia its first Olympic Gold medal ever in 2000 at the Sydney Summer Olympics.
I just watched it yesterday and I can't believe what I was missing. Such a beautiful movie, I loved it.
“There is no character who would be considered a typical bad guy”
Me: uh, what about the soldiers who destroyed Alma and Pedro’s former town and murdered Pedro, huh?
That was pretty evil
ONLY MAIN CHARACTER WITH GLASSES
*Proceed to show Milo, who was the main character.*
So you clearly don’t know what “one of the only characters” means.
@@wajmgirl Yeah, now that I read it back I see my mistake
Yes Milo was the main character who wore glasses. But sadly, Atlantis the lost empire was not a box office hit so some people forgot that Milo was a character. It was also the reason why Princess Kida is not considered as a Disney Princess, because the movie did not earn enough money.
@@moonwalkerangel7008 hecking tragedy tho rip
LOOPER DO BETTER. The real unique thing about Luisa isn't the strong woman angle, it is the recognition that she takes on too much and can't carry it all, and how important it is to be honest with yourself about your lack of boundaries. Protect your gifts, you don't have to be the backbone of the family.
For the frozen thing it’s also that Bruno says : ‘Let it snow, Let it go!’
we don't talk about Bruno...
@@jinx2297 Bruno is better than grandma here
I think that was the smartest thing about the film, was that there was no human villain, it was fear and misunderstanding. That translates to so many things about life and its so true. We can't move forward and rebuild if we continue to misunderstand and hate each other.
8:52 Luisa had many scrapped concepts for her room, a common theme for the concept is that it would be made entirely of stone, there was also a sequence where Luisa had a secret chamber in her room to relax. Anyway, the point of this comment, One concept in particular was based off of atlas, making the room seem as though it held up the sky.
I think Luisa is a strong woman because she's inspired in the first olimpic gold medal winner of Colombia: María Isabel Urrutia. She was a weightlifter.
Me: The Encanto ad trailer is gonna play.
*Encanto ad trailer plays*
Me: I knew it!
Now I know why I kept getting 100 years of solitude vibes from this movie.
I disagree on a few things. First, the Madrigals founded the village, mayoral at best. Second, if somehow Encanto was made those years ago, Luisa would be dainty and comically strong. That's the point of Luisa, the troped "take all the pressure" Hispanic/Latino middle daughter. Miranda uses, shocker, Latin/Spanish styled music. Superstition is common in Spanish culture. It's well known that it TAKES PLACE IN COLOMBIA. It's advertised as such. Most of this is stuff kids would already know. And weirdly juvenile.
EDIT: YOU EVEN SAID THE NAME WRONG??
Columbia tho?
Colombia*
I saw a tiktok recently that shows how to annoys colombians, that is saying they are columbians lol. (Dont know how accurate that is but still funny)
@@kraudvincentvonpierre5606 ... its been 2 months... I am ashamed.
I don't think these things are only something adults could notice, but anyone who can look pass the surface of encanto can see these things and once you realize these things, it makes the movie much more enjoyable to watch
I like how they did their research on Colombia :)
rewatched encanto and wondered if the doors were made with the grown-up versions of the characters or if they grew up with them. if you look at the pictures taken during every ritual, everyone has a door with their grown-up version on it. antonio, on the other hand, has himself as a child on his door. nothing deep, i just thought it was funny
Some people who noticed this wondered if the characters on the doors all look like the way they would when Casita collapsed.
I loved this movie and I caught most of the things you pointed out! Since I can't rewatch it just yet, I'm very happy to relive parts of it through your video; thanks!!! Mirabel is a wonderful character but I don't think they will make her a "Disney Princess". Maybe they'll come up with some other category to place her in!
A little correction would be the “tocar madera” or knocking on wood ain’t to wish good luck but to cancel the bad luck you just called into yourself or others such as “knowing my luck, I’ll fall down the starts, oh no, I knock on wood, may it not happen”. In a similar fashion, salt is sprinkled over your shoulder as a way to prevent bad luck since it borrows the idea that we all have a devil looking over our shoulders along with an angel. By throwing the salt over the left shoulder you are essentially blinding the devil for the time being and preventing it from any bad intervention on their side.
I think camilo and Luisa would switch roles if this movie was made decades ago
She pronounced Madrigal so wrong 😭☠
i recommend watching the movie more than once to see the all the amazing small details, i’ve watched it 4 times already and i’m still noticing new things!
I know who the bad guys are. it's the ones who killed the grandfather.
The bad guys are those 3 guys that throw mirabel the accordion. They KNOW that mirabel doesn't have a gift, they just want her to admit it
Green is the villain color, curious that Mirabel’s glasses are green same color as Bruno and his vision
Green can also represent jealousy, but also harmony and growth. It can represent Fresh beginings, prosperity, and hope.
Bruno isn't a villain at all. He's just like Mirabel in that he felt like he wasn't able to contribute because nobody appreciated his gift. He sacrificed his way of life just to protect his niece
Also dont forget, green means luck too!
Here it references emeralds, and the fact that native Colombian tribes used them to predict the future, nothing evil about it.
@@patax144 yeah
Maribel is just like Mulan they're not princesses...
I really wish Maribel would have gotten a gift in the end, AND I ALSO WANNA SEE ALL THEIR ROOMSSSSS
and if Camilo and Dolores could get their own songs that would be so cool, i love both of their voices
How did Dolores not hear Bruno all these years? Talking to his rats, mumbling to himself etc.
She did she just didn’t tell anybody… which is weird because she can’t keep a secret otherwise lol
I think she can keep a secret. It's just that the prophecy why bruno left was something that's been wondered for such a long time she just can't keep the tea to herself.
But in teh song we dont talk about bruno she said smth that she hears him muttering and mumbling or smth
She says in the end of the movie that she knew he was in the walls and didn’t say anything. There is even a small hint to the reveal he in the the walls in We Don’t Talk About Bruno. When Dolores has her line about Bruno’s vision of the man she pines for would be betrothed to someone else, her next line is “I can hear him now.” Which when listening you would think she means she is repeating his words in her head, but in actuality she probably could hear him at that moment with the rats that she earlier in the movie said they talk a lot in the walls
In the song we dont talk about bruno she literally said she hears him
I watched it today it was great!
Same
When Isabelle comes down from her room on her vines at the beginning she flips and when she does the animators actually show her butt and underwear lol. Disney always still showing it has its secret Easter eggs. 😂
Excellent analysis 👏 👏👏👍 👌 Thank you!!
Mirabell did have a gift
Her gift was being the flame holder the door crumbling was shown by bruno because she didn't have a door to show she would fix the house
She has the same power as the grandma but the grandma went corrupt
The house always helped her and crumbled when she was sad and while it's not cannon you can tell its implied
I was thinking she might be the one who will take on the candle after the grandmother passes as she was getting older and would eventually pass
This is the best Disney movie to date! ‘We don’t talk about Bruno’ is my favorite 🎶♥️
It took me so long to notice “Madrigal” somewhat sounding like “Magical” with a bit of an accent.
Also, Madrigal is a type of music. To make it simple, it's when many voices sing in harmony, unaccompanied. They're name basically mean they're in some sort of harmony.
i loved her for the glasses
I loved this movie!. it's one of my favorite Disney pictures.
I love what you do
None of the other people in the house actively talk to the house and have the house do things for her upon their commands. The house does things for other people, sure, but not because they're asked to - it's usually on the house's own accord. With Mirabel, the house both does stuff for her on its own accord AND does stuff at her order as well.
Also, Encanto might be one of my favorite Disney movies because the songs are not just 'filler' between the dialogue. They're an active and integral part OF the dialog and the story. If you removed the songs, you remove key pieces of information that the rest of the dialog simply does not cover.
"Knock on wood" isn't an action meant to bring good luck but one to ward off bad luck. Because of how the villagers and family interpret his prophesies and non-prophesy statements, he's come to view himself, and his gift, as bad luck. He is trying to *help* Mirabel, by doing his best to make sure his bad luck doesn't attach itself to her - which he perceives he's already failed, since the day he read her prophesy after she didn't get a gift - and thus means he has to try harder.
Great video!!!
