I had heard rumors that the Civil War movie's biggest sin was that it was boring. But no. Civil War has many sins. And its biggest sin is how weak it is. For a film that tries to portray itself as important, it plays it very safe. And yes, it is also very boring.
It also doesn't understand photography! Let's discuss!

I didn’t even know this movie existed till I watched this video💀
Captain America:-"No, I don't think I will".
I saw it, and really enjoyed it. I expected a US, gung-ho, hell-yeah type of film, and it wasn't that. No 'The Message' that I could discern, and as a piece about war photographers, it was excellent in many respects. Four stars out of five, to quote Alex Turner.
Haven’t seen it yet
It tries so hard to not be controversial that it ends up not saying much
On the positive side, it had some entertaining moments
5/10
One of the dumbest parts of this movie is the idea the president would actually be in the white house and not in air force one well before a hostile force got that close
Where he can definitely be shot down by the Raptors we saw WF had?
The military who remained aligned with the President after the other parts of the US split surrendered late in the film, it's entirely reasonable to suggest that includes the people responsible for ferrying the President around on his aircraft.
One of the news blips mentions the President lost the faith of his Air Force which is why they weren’t there for him.
Or in the secure bunker under the East Wing and that's the bunker that people know about, wouldn't surprise me if there's a more secure secret location for him.
@@lordcarnorjax8599 he wasn't in the bunker I suspect because he was hoping to be taken to a neutral area for a surrender negotiation. One of his secret service agents is in the press room and is trying to negotiate him being allowed to go somewhere to discuss terms of surrender.
That, obviously, goes poorly and there isn't time to take him to the bunker or they can't get to the bunker at that point.

I might be dumb but wasn’t that what they were saying?? When she left the store there were armed gunman on the roof and then they ran into the Todd from breaking bad. Implying that they controlled the town
If the vest is actually kevlar, it wouldn't stop a round from a battle rifle anyway. The vests journos wear in combat zones have ceramic plates for this reason.
It's irrelevant. The point is the character makes a big deal about wearing one and then gets show and instantly dies.
Robot head is correct in saying there should have been a scene where she gives it to the other girl and then tries to save her but gets shot.
@@James_Bee I'm adding to the criticism of the movie. No journo would wear a pistol/stab vest. You maybe don't know what's relevant to my viewpoint.
Also Secret service in this film was outfitted like they normally are with PDW's and pistols.
I don't recall seeing them using rifles but in any case the vest should have stopped the 9mm rounds being sent downrange bt the secret service unless they were rechambered into 5.7×28 though that is a detail that should have been addressed in the movie were it the case.
@@isaiahsmith7123 Ah that's interesting. SS agents do have PDWs for backup during peacetime, but I imagine they'd have long rifles for this situation. You're right about the vest then, but my point was she wouldn't be gearing up submachinegun and pistol rounds during wartime.

When making a movie you have people on set whose job it is to use cameras all day. You cant tell nobody realized that filmcamera makes no sense here.
They were overruled by the director.
Dude, there’s a ton of things you’ll catch as someone who works with cameras. For one, they had a lens that had something on it, in the mid-left side of the frame, and it was driving me nuts. It’s there throughout the film.
They take shots in the middle of a bright day and they’re blurry, which means the shutter speed is below 60fps, which would mean it would all be blown the hell up, lighting wise. The shutter would need to be higher, which wouldn’t cause blur.
They have huge zoom lenses but choose to go way up close to get footage. Why? That bugged me immediately, like, why do you need to be in the face of people fighting? Get your 55-200mm lens, and shoot from a distance, not that hard.
Sticking your eye in the viewfinder is incredibly idiotic when you need your peripheral vision to be on high alert, especially when you have an LCD in the middle of the camera.

I'm surprised no one has pointed out the pilot just doing a random barrel roll while in formation for a air strike in a civil war. lol
Well, in the American air force that kind of stupid shit is normal, isn't it? I remember seeing on the news in the UK how a US fighter pilot targeted an *allied* truck convoy and destroyed a truck with a Union Jack painted on the top (precisely to help American pilots *not* shoot their allies) and *then* contacted the reconnaissance plane high above him to ask what it was that he had destroyed (the correct protocol is to contact the reconnaissance plane to ask what it is the pilot is seeing *before* he fires at anything).

A film that presents itself as focusing on an apparent divide in the United States... while having journalists as the protagonists. Pathetic. You don't have to be American to know just how distinctly despised journalism has been in recent years.
They are conflict journalists, not really the same as your average woke pundit
Most people wouldn't know a real journalist if they saw one. They even think they're allowed on cable news. 😂
@@B0tch0 Watergate was long before social media. . You get more accurate news from meme videos then mockingbird controlled media. Woodward and Bernstein would never be able to break a story like that now days unless they had permission.
Exactly journalism in the West as a whole is a joke nowadays especially the UK 🇬🇧 don’t get me fucking started on the daily mail or as I and others like to call it daily fail
@@B0tch0 , oh, I'm not discounting individuals that actually know how to do proper journalism (even in today's day and age). I'm just pointing out how a lot of people, especially those in positions of power or gated-off sectors where they don't see the harsh reality of the world, still have no clue how a lot of today's mainstream journalists are merely masquerading as such. And, yes, there are people out here on RUclips who have done better attempts at proper journalism than those that have that label in their profession.
Just compare and contrast journalism done by major news outlets versus someone like Upper Echelon who provides as much receipts as possible before committing to a conclusion (even admitting to faults and flaws at times whenever viable). You won't see nor hear that kind of humility from those journalists in seats of power where they'll do anything for the sake of clout and/or access to companies/corporations, politicians, etc.
So, yes, journalism, on paper and on its own, is not a bad thing by default. It's just easily corruptible, especially during times when capitalizing on dividing people is at an all time high. I live in a country where it's basically all I hear from news outlets instead of actual meaningful developments in what's going on to help the regular folks.
When I saw the thumbnail photo, I thought it was Jack Black from Tropic Thunder.

@@RobotHead. Wanna see something with balls to tackle these topics? Four words"Metal gear rising revengeance"!
So the vest the main character is wearing is almost certainly rated at level 3a. Which is required to stop up to .44 magnum rounds reliably. The guys who shoot her are firing mp5ks. Mp5ks fire 9mm which is much less likely to penetrate a level 3a vest than .44 magnum. Unless we are dealing with some kind of armor piercing round, in which case why are they using short barreled smgs that will limit the capabilities of their ap rounds? film makers have no idea how the equipment they give their characters work.
Yeah whoever was in charge of the military aspects of the movie did zero actual research into uniforms, weapons, vehicles, or other equipment. The scene with the Apache attack helicopter is one of the worst examples of the piss-poor research that went into this movie. To start with, Apaches don't have miniguns, they have autocannons that only fire at around 600 RPM, not the 2,000+ RPM of a minigun. Also, the Apache is flying way to low to the ground and way too close to the enemy, way too easy to be taken down by small arms fire and it couldn't maneuver at all if it had to because of the surrounding buildings. Also, the Apache wouldn't need to be there anyway since the Abrams tank on the street right behind and below it could have done a much better job of suppressing the enemy positions.

If you're watching this movie and nit picking the cameras, you're watching the movie wrong
@@scottmiller2222 The camera nitpicking is just an example of the greater issues. I would suggest if you are making a movie about the horror of war without any grounding or context for the conflict or the how the protagonists feel about it then you are doing your movie making wrong because there is no reason to be invested in anything or anyone. Like the romanticism of the cameras I nitpicked the characters themselves are thinly draw romanticizations of classic journo stereotypes with little else going for them. They must have been going for what a civil war would be like, regardless of what caused it. Hence the tour in the middle of it instead of showing it from the beginning. "Yeah but why though?" to decide how you should feel about it totally misses the point.
It's amazing how divisive this film has become, simply for not trying to be divisive. Like, WTF do you people want?

As a recreational film photographer seeing the shots she was getting in that light with an EM was just pure fantasy. Maybe a fast film pushed three stops, but nowadays the only B+W that is readily available would be ASA400 so that would come out to 3200 pushed three stops, you’d maybe get some shots but the contrast would be insane. You’d lose most of your shadows. Developing on the road and scanning with a phone isn’t so bad though. Some people like myself still prefer the look of film but for action shooting especially in low light there’s just absolutely nothing like being able to change ISO on the fly, know if you got a good shot, being able to burst shoot. Just so much better for someone like her.
"and why should the people listen to you"
Robot Head: "because, unlike some other youtube critics, I actually watch the films I review" wink wink
The fallout show is actually pretty good. Has a female lead who is actually not super annoying, just looks in between pretty and gollem. In some crazy way.
That is the best way to describe her face and makes so much sense.
Ella Purnell is very pretty. Just needs to not drown herself in makeup
Show sucked and ruined lore but did diversity casting right, only problem is that there shouldn’t be a fat guy in a vault
the completely staccato "Star Spangled Banner" my new favorite rendition
