Gimmicks can still have purpose, regardless of if it is in fact a gimmick. I think the masks are a good example of that. It’s something that is a staple of this band, they are known for it. But the reason they started doing it is still valid.

In my opinion Slipknot is one of the best metal bands ever (I'm a maggot (that how they call their fans, not as an insult though. That name was made by "Clown" referring to the people in the crowd moshing and everything kinda look like a bunch of maggots from above the stage) but I also listen to a lot of other metal bands for sure)
About the masks, this is how they started, kinda not wanting to make a fuzz about their identities, but to let the music speak for itself and be the most important part of their band. Usually they change their masks after every album, some of them change entirely, while other members prefer to upgrade their original masks each time. Also there are nine members in this band: Corey Taylor as the Lead Vocalist, Mick Thompson and James Root on the guitars, Jay Weinberg on the drums (until 2013 it was Joey Jordison, who, as you know, sadly passed away recently), Shawn "Clown" Crahan and "Tortilla Man" at the Percussions (before Tortilla Man joined there was Chris Fehn, the guy who walked through the crowd in the video, but he left the band), "V-Man" on the Bass (before it was Paul Gray, who sadly died in 2010), Sid Wilson is the "Dee-jaaaay" in the band, as he likes to say it and then there is also Craig, who is in charge of sampling and the piano.
Personally I would recommend you to watch "Snuff", the acoustic live version of Corey Taylor (my favourite song ever), the mv for "The Devil In I" and maybe the mv for "Unsainted", a song from their most recent album.
I really enjoy your videos, you seem like a very nice and cheerful person, keep it up Charis 🙃

(As someone already suggested) The live, acoustic version of “Snuff” would be a great song to hear Corey (great lyrics as well). However, if you want to do a music video “The Devil in I” is probably not the one to start with. I’d suggest “Vermilion” or “Killpop” if you want to ease in. If you like those then maybe crank it up.
If you want to jump right to “The Devil in I” maybe familiarize yourself with the lyrics and know that the video doesn’t really portray the lyrics. People new to Slipknot often get stuck on the video itself and don’t really pay attention to the song.

I'm from the same area they came out of. "Duality" is a must watch music video. It's a bit darker, but what looks like a hell of a set is really exactly what it looked like. The people were all fans, some from as far away as the eastern European countries. The whole thing was improve by the fans except what happened immediately around the band. Before the Iowa CD dropped, I met Corey and Mick in a music shop. They were still in a dark place, Iowa has the effect on people that makes most of us fight like hell to leave. But those guys said hi and were still friendly and if you respect them, as a basic human right, you'll be accepted as a good person. Don't bug them or fawn when they're out, they will initiate a prolonged interaction if they can. They have seen lots of tragedy and growth and only get better. I hated their music when they first came out. But it saved my life and kept my spirit from breaking in my worst times. Love to them, you and all my fellows in the 515 and any Maggot out there rocking it!

I've been listening to slipknot since their first record and I was in high school. Yeah I'm old. I've seen them 4 or 5 times over the years. They always put on a great show. This is one of my favorite songs by them too.
Purity is another great song. The chorus is amazing. It's about a girl buried in a box.

Us metal heads are extremely nice and accepting of others. A lot of us has the mentality of "Don't mess with us, we won't mess with you" thing. Even at concerts, a lot of the "veteran concert goers" openly look after the new people as best they can.
Yeah there are bad apples in the group but they also quickly tossed out once I'D'd.
So welcome to the Maggots from your friendly Mexican Nerd metal head. Yes we come in every skin color and so on.

You’d call slipknot a fringe-ish band but they’ve captured the hearts of so many people. And they’re a totally wholesome band despite their lyrics and look.

Lol yeah, there's a reason Joey always used a racing seat with a built-in harness instead of a traditional drum throne/stool. You can find a video on YT of a drum solo he did (I believe between songs) that was incredible and you get to see the movement of the platform better...super cool!

A few people have recommended Killpop by Slipknot and I agree. It has some interesting theatrical elements like makeup and interpretive dance. It also shows both a "soft" side and aggressive side to their musical style. If you want to go heavier, Wait and Bleed is an older but awesome song from them. Even after all these years for me, it's still one of my favorites. In any case, I enjoyed this reaction. Good job!

I soooo enjoy watching people fall in love with Slipknot! I've been a fan since 99. We are called "maggots". The masks are a wonderful horror gimmick started by M Shawn Crahan aka Clown. He does all of their videos and DVDs..a lot of scary stuff..beware of you're squeamish, but that's the whole fun of it. Corey Taylor can also sing some beautiful vocals, very melodic. And their lyrics are unlike any you'll ever hear, Like words you've never heard..so I'd suggest lyric videos and have a dictionary if you're curious lol. Enjoyed the reaction!

Pretty sure Slipknot was very popular when you were born. Slipknot debuted at Ozzfest 1999. Not a diss on you or Slipknot. It's incredible that you're down for this here and now! Thank you! 🤘🤠

Always cool to see first time reactions to Slipknot. So many people say " not what I expected". Like you said yourself, came into it expected murder everyone, go now! That's not what metal music is about and that's definitely not what slipknot is about. Corey Taylor ends every show saying "take care of yourselves, take care of each other". That's what the metal community is about for me anyway. Be who you are and do what you want to do. If other people don't like it, then screw them! There are many people who are willing to accept you for exactly who you are!

We Slipknot fans are known as Maggots. As Corey Taylor puts it, a maggot starts out insignificant, then transforms into something beautiful. All of us who were part of the music scene in Iowa at that time are proud that our brothers made it. You really should check out Corey Taylor's acoustic performance of the Slipknot song "Snuff".

To be pleasantly surprised by them again, hit up Numb, you get to see what Corey looks like, or Before I Forget where everyone is maskless, but you still cant see them. They have a bunch of great songs, and they do go hard sometimes

This performance is a legendary performance as it was the last major performance where the "original" nine members (Slipknot did not had the original members at this point but since 1999, these are the members somewhat considered original since the 99 Ozzfest show) as Paul Grey (bassist) die last then a year after this. Early Slipknot 1999-2005 was some wild years as Slipknot was heavily fueled by drugs.

If memory serves, Jump Da F*** Up was a totally separate song as well. I have a handful of Slipknot suggestions, and a whole lot more metalcore suggestions that aren't Slipknot, message me if you'd like a list of that type of music to react to. Have a good night ma'am, another great reaction. :)
