Next week I am taking him 4 samples of whiskey to find out where his mind is at with what he might favor. I love sharing my love of whiskey and I have the Glorious Bastards of the Whiskey Tribe to thank for their advice, direction and the passing on of true whiskey etiquette.

The Man Chan don’t hate the Glen! Don’t get me wrong. I wouldn’t buy a bottle myself. I was just surprised with the amount of flavour for a 40% abv. scotch. I was given a pour for free. Are you referring to the 15yr solera? If so, I need to try it!!
I remember I was at this bar with my friends and they knew one of the bartenders. I had never gone there before. I ordered a Lagavulin 16, but they were out, so I ordered a Laphroaig 10 on the rocks. The bartender refused! There are some notes in Laphroaig 10 that I prefer muted, I know what I want, I'd have had the Lagavulin 16 au naturale. I got my Laphroaig and knicked some ice from a friend. Never went to that bar again.

I have hosted two whiskey tastings to date. One international and one just bourbons. They loved it! It was so much fun. Can’t wait to do it again. Maybe different Scotch whisky next time, and introduce a nice smoky one and see their reaction!

I know the "dich" in Bruichladdich Is pronounced like "Brook-laddie" so I'd sort of assumed that Glenfiddich should be "Glenfiddie". Still got things to learn 😅
I think you’re only expected to hock up one loogie per word. With Bruichladdich, you already cleared the phlegm on the first syllable, so the ending is necessarily softer. 😂
I'm a new whiskey enthusiast, and until recently, I had only had bourbons (except for a dram of Sazerac Rye I mooched). Last night I finished a final exam, so I went down to my local Total Wine to reward myself, and decided to introduce myself to Scotch and Irish whiskey! I came home with a bottle of Glenfiddich 12 and another of Powers Gold Label! I loved both of them, and they were a great lesson in the wide range of flavor available in the wide world of whiskey!
David Steward says you should add one part of water for to parts of whisky. and the whisky should be 20-30%. He knows how to get the most taste of the drink.

One question I have as a fairly new whiskey drinker is (and at the risk of outing myself as a big sissy) How to treat a whiskey hangover or even avoid it all together? I am not a heavy drinker but do sometimes get some kind of hangover if I have more than 2 glasses. Question is for anyone in the comments.
Speaking of getting people into whiskey. I tempted a young lady with the Red Breast Cask Strength. She loved it. Absolutely loved it. She was looking for something that was butterscotch but dry. I immediately went for that.

Haha I had that mispronounced stuff with a liquor store employee the other day actually. He kept saying IS-lay instead of I-Lah. I think he started trying to correct me as he started to over pronounce it when I kept using the correct pronounciation until another employee I knew there, also said I-Lah. He kept listening in as I said other names after that a bit. It was funny. Nice guy and at let me taste The Double Peat. Which a really good blend of Speyside and Islay BTW. This was a cool segment and I know I have found myself asking that question of how to become a rep like that as well.

With the pronunciation thing, I am very glad I started watching more videos that involved Islay scotch or I would have had no idea how wrong my pronunciation was. Which would have made me sound real dumb talking about my favorite style of Scotch lol.
He got to the Vintage Cask and it was like, damn I have one of those. I think I picked it up in Incheon Airport during one of my trips through there about 5 or 6 years ago. Could have been Narita but don’t remember exactly. Still have just under a half bottle. Damn good.
I was never an Irish lover at all. There was just a tasting note that I couldn't get passed. But, with the constant praise of Redbrest by you two, I decided to give it a try today. Surprise!! I like irish!!
Start with 14 or 15 year old would be my suggestion Rick. 14 tends to appeal to American whiskey drinkers as it’s aged in bourbon barrels and virgin American oak. 15 is the Scotch that made me fall in love with Scotch whisky.

I primarily love Islay Scotch and Rye Whiskey, some Bourbon here and there, but damn if he hasn't managed to get me into Gin. Another buddy though, I've been slowly getting him more and more into different whiskey. I have told him "hey, I'll get you some of this in one of my pretentious whiskey glasses", referring to my Glencarins and it's slowly been working on him to expand beyond just bourbon haha

any tips on getting used to the burn of whiskey? My first time trying whisk(e)y I tried Monkey shoulder, Jim Beam double oak, and a few others back to back, and I couldn't tell you the difference between them except one. Lagavulin 16. Boy was that amazing, but being as old as it is it's a lot smoother so I could taste nuances unlike the younger stuff.
🌕 I got bubble gum and kicking ass. Been wearing the glassed since 1986. Bumble gum is getting harder to find bu5 lead seems readily available. Sweet vid.. love you guys

So new or cool things whiskey would grab their attention right? I was wrong. Turns out they know next to nothing about whiskey once you step outside the two or three biggest/most common brands. Makers, Jameson, Knob Creek, etc. Not that they are bad bottles. I love all 3, especially makers. I'm just sad I thought I'd have a new way to connect with friends and that didn't really work out. I've gained a beloved hobby instead!
For me, if I am drinking whiskey for the alcohol, I will usually use 3 or 5 ice cubes. If I am drinking for flavor, I usually add a couple drops of water, and I mean about 2 small drops

Airport Glenfiddich is the best, I was brought deep into the Whisky fold by the no age statement special reserve, and if I ever see a bottle on the Auction sites I still make a bee line for it.
I grew up with Jameson like most of us. I was introduced to Scotch about 5 years ago. I HATED IT! I didn't know anything about Scotch. I tried so many and was afraid of Islay. Turns out, thats my favorite. Heavily peated, smokey stuff is where it's at for me.
I'm keeping my eyes peeled for that peated Glenfiddich the next time I get to pass through duty free! Cheers Rex for asking that last question cause the whole way through this video I was continually going "How the hell can I get THAT job!?" :D

Airport Glenfiddich is the best, I was brought deep into the Whisky fold by the no age statement special reserve, and if I ever see a bottle on the Auction sites I still make a bee line for it.
I grew up with Jameson like most of us. I was introduced to Scotch about 5 years ago. I HATED IT! I didn't know anything about Scotch. I tried so many and was afraid of Islay. Turns out, thats my favorite. Heavily peated, smokey stuff is where it's at for me.
