Scale: A minor for the whole thing
I've always really enjoyed soloing over tracks with a lush keyboard and synthesizer arrangement. Something about those extra tonal and harmonic content which makes everything explode from your fingers. Soloing becomes more about highlighting the chordal progression as well as building your own lead story. One thing that shocked me is a lot of people find this track on RUclips with the keywords 'SAD BACKING TRACK' or 'SAD BLUES BACKING TRACK'. Realistically it is what you make it. To me, it's high melodic - yes you can shred, but melodic is the key phrase here and what this is, is a MELODIC BACKING TRACK for guitar or whatever instrument you please. You can make this happy, inspiration, reflective, sentimental, thankful or sad, simply by applying your own phrasing and scales. To me, that is what makes a good guitar backing track.
I know it sounds like I'm blowing my own trumpet, and please don't get me wrong, I'm not. There's a lot of great melodic backing tracks out there, but each of them are individual. This one is based upon a descending chord progression in the key of A minor. It's a pretty common progression - however the passing note before the D (the E) instantly transforms it into a popular Pink Floyd track in another key. I knew when I did this - I was almost going to exclude the note for that reason - I didn't want to get tarred with the 'Just Another Comfortably Numb Backing Track', because it's not, I've used similar but different instruments and the rhythm guitar playing has a definite different feel.
So here I am, in a dilemma, ready to record bass. Do I do my own thing, knowing that I want to make this track unique - or do I do a Comfortably Numb influenced bass line too? I know if I didn't, you could argue "Why go this far and not the full way?" or "It's meant to be C.N. but he couldn't play the bass line!". I'm not sure what the deciding factor was - perhaps somewhere midway down the second glass of wine. Anyway, here is the track - please enjoy! I can play the blues scale in a minor and do bends, vibrators, hammer ons, pull offs, and slides for the next year and I will never feel like David Gilmour. I would be happy to just find my voice ya, if I could do that in the next 10 years I would be happy and amazed. lol

if im gonna play to a comf numb backing track, ill stick with the way its done in Bm, but thanks for the upload to those that like this. It sounds just fine, just rather practice in original key to the backing track i found. Now if you put the whole song up in Am i might want that as the D part is kinda high for me a key lower would help
