Great review thanks and interesting to see how the car is evolved over the years. Exterior is still the best looking Tesla model for me and the interior updates are definitely keeping it looking fresh. It wouldn't be my choice if I had that kind of cash but I certainly would take it over the BMW which is just ugly hideousness. The Model S is an iconic car and future classic I think.
My p100d is the predecessor to this and it's already great as a commuter and all around driver. It's already lethally quick..... hard to imagine this plaid.
Hows it feel knowing the tesla model s plaid was 160k last year and now 89k. Model 3 is 20k. Biggest cost of owning a tesla is depreciation. Every average joe in the world has one its like a poor mans sports car now, its over saturated. Talk about depreciating assets at a historic rate.
What is this obsession with speed in electric cars, I wish they would just focus on range, fast charging and affordability. We have all managed without cars that have sub 4 second zero to sixty times for years so why do we all need that now in a boring family car?
@@stephencollins7714 People talking about fast charging or range etc but in reality most of the owners including myself (Model 3 Performance) hardly use Superchargers and it is more than enough to charge once a week at home costs just £3 to £4 full charge for a range of around 300 miles more than enough for my usage. According to surveys, average driver in UK only does 7400 miles a year so that's just 154 miles a week so charging the car at home once every 10 days or so is more than enough. I can go visit all the way from South West where i live to Glasgow with just 1x supercharging 15 minutes charge and i take longer than that just to go to toilet and take even longer if you go grab some food. I don't see issue with either the range or fast charging. Range anxiety does not exist as a Tesla owner.
I prefer the computer on wheels approach. I had major reliability issues with the German makes I owned, VW, 911 turbo, and friend's BMW. Charging infrastructure is still a major consideration too.
I owned the M3 LR '20. Loved a lot about it, but didn't like: the trunk, only a single display, too low, didn't have air suspension, didn't like the front end styling, and it was WAAY too noisy. I now have a S Plaid. It fixed all of these issues. It's a fantastic daily driver. I love this car and I have always thought the Model S was one of the prettiest cars on the road. Now with a wider stance, updated lights it's beautiful. I always glance back at it when I park it. Best "higher end" EV money can buy IMHO.
EV wise I'd say the new hummer EV def turns more heads. Tesla are so common now and u really can't tell the difference between the p100d the s and plaid unless ur really into cars.
For real...This video is claiming the Porsche is "in another league" in terms of handling....but I'd think a car that's supposedly so much better in handling would be the one setting better laptimes.
@@OneWheelManThey have worshipped Porsche their whole life as their God. It’s all about subjective feelings now because the facts are the Plaid is faster on the ring and significantly faster on the straights. In fact, Plaid with an aero kit is even beating the 911 GT3 and GT2 RS on shorter tracks.
@@P10634 I have a feeling you don't know what 'steering feel' is. What about how well you can trust the front end. How progressive is the breakaway at the limit? How well connected the front and rear feel. How light, maneuverable, agile, nimble does it feel when it changes direction. How communicative is the chassis. How is the brake feedback. There's far more to a car's handling
I think that Tesla did a great job of building a car that would appeal to the family man and track man. Personally, if I buy a fast car I want it to look fast.
This car is not a track car brotha its a straight line speed 0-60 a porsche or pretty much any other real sports car is better on the track just watch Nuremburg
It seems like an old video, especially the comments about the supercharger network which has been open to non-Teslas for quite some time now. The new model S has pretty much only the external looks in common with the old one. It does seem that the reviewer is aware of this.
You constantly compared this with the Porché and the EQS and the BMW i7, when it comes to luxury "perception", feel and materials, BUT never mentioned the price comparison to those "so-called" rivals!!! Why?
A few things... Update. Huge price drop, about 20%. I have test driven a Taycan... It just does not compare, the software is simply awful and confusing. The Plaid with the track package is a great superior handling car to the Taycan. I am ordering a Model S Plaid... In the new Ultra Red. I will give an honest assessment. Full disclosure...I currently have a 2015 Model S P90DL.
Kind of funny this video says the Porsche is in another league in terms of handling, yet in reality the Plaid beat the Taycan around the Nurburgring. I guess the extra power helps, but I'd think a car that's supposedly "in another league in terms of handling" would be the one setting better lap times at the track....
Handling isn't the ONLY factor. Handling will effect your laptimes though, as you can carry more speed through corners. Power to weight will mainly accept acceleration, aka, your straightline performance, which also improves laptimes. But a car that's only good in a straight line with terrible handling isn't going to set good laptimes.@@cobrachannel100
Has anyone here received the Text Size software update on their Model S Plaid? I purchased my 2023 back in June, I'm now on software version 2023.20.9 but still don't have this feature. According to Tesla this feature is currently NOT available on ANY Model S, ONLY on Model's 3 & Y. I can't see why this would be so I hope someone here has received this updated software feature. Thanks!
2023.20.9 is FSD version and I doubt text size will update for MS and MX since we have an extra screen. M3 and MY rely on one screen and many have difficulties reading small prints.

The point is that the font size can't be adjusted on the larger screen Screen size and quantity there of shouldn't matter. What matters is having the ability to Increase the font size on the main display no matter if there one or two screens.
Would still prefer a Taycan or a Lucid if it were not for the stupid trunk. There are much better all round cars than the Tesla, they focus far too much on acceleration which is way over the top for these cars.

The ending of the RHD is surprising, it's a bigger proprtion of the market than many assume. Its not just the UK - Japan, India and others drive on the left. I expect there's new models in the works with more commonalities with the 3 and Y, and possibly steer-by-wire. It would make sense given Tesla's strategy of as many functions as possible being handled by software, and the drive toward self driving.

Notice how they avoid testing 60-0. Only tested on new highly expensive tires by tesla, just slightly worn adds an extra 20-60 ft to stopping distance. Up to 180ft to stop in most tests by C&D CR That is deadly to other drivers on the receiving end of these trucks in the shape of a car.
The reason why you didn't get much better numbers in performance is because your tires were at only 38 bar. Next time around first check tire pressure recommendation and your actual tire pressure then go out to test it.
Once again the voice controls are overlooked when discussing the physical menus. Voice controls work so well that the screen is merely a backup system. Yes, right-hand drive please!

Plaid over the Taycan and BMW anyday---those two have better handling and luxury, respectively, as stated, but the Model S's versatility, supercharging network, software updates, user/entertainment interface, and autopilot (FSD) and tech are superior. And not to mention, the Plaid costs much less than the i7 and Taycan Turbo.
And yet Lucid can’t move them. They are virtually non existent on the road. We will see how long they last since their current budget is good until 2Q of 2024. Great tech but incredibly horrible at manufacturing and selling them. That’s the cold hearted truth.
Perhaps with the exception of charging stations! I've looked at just about all other EV's available here in US and one major factor was taking long distance trips as I would with an ICE vehicle and Tesla won the race for my main requirement. The piece of mind having superchargers just about every 150 miles, just zip in and out within less than 15 minutes without any hassle of credit cards hoping the charge stations are not off line to accept your card or broken chargers without any notifications was disturbing for me.

0 to 100 mph in less than 5 seconds IS mind blowing !!! Combined with the reasoning skills of the average US driver, it's also a deadly combination. Death (s) and destruction ? Not if, only when and how bad.
Classic bias of an auto journalist. You mentioned two cars that are significantly more expensive. Taycan goes up to 150k pounds and the i7 goes up to 161k pounds.
Come on guys! You need to test it with more than 61% state of charge. The Plaid starts to lose power once it dips below 80%. It will still run high 9’s in the 1/4 mile at 30% but not low 9’s.
The slowest Tesla, my RWD Model 3 keeps up with cars twice it’s price.
Kudos to Tesla and the PLAID, *great video*

Haha!
What is this obsession with speed in electric cars, I wish they would just focus on range, fast charging and affordability. We have all managed without cars that have sub 4 second zero to sixty times for years so why do we all need that now in a boring family car?
@@stephencollins7714it’s not boring….
Would be interesting to see that Palid could do vs the fastest Tycan on the track, as well as the software comparison between it and its main rivals.
Best "higher end" EV money can buy IMHO.
i have a new 2023 Model S LR Black with the 21's.. literally the most beautiful car i've ever owned. can't believe i'm so lucky to drive it
EV wise I'd say the new hummer EV def turns more heads. Tesla are so common now and u really can't tell the difference between the p100d the s and plaid unless ur really into cars.
With the track package it is 8 seconds faster then the Porsche - at the nurburgring. Significantly cheaper too
For real...This video is claiming the Porsche is "in another league" in terms of handling....but I'd think a car that's supposedly so much better in handling would be the one setting better laptimes.
There's far more to a car's handling
@@dennisnguyen9661 if any of that is true why didn’t they go faster?

It's the software on a Tesla that wins it for me over anyone else.
Wouldn’t mind the LHD because you can use the touchscreen with your right hand. Not an issue for me, will still get it.
Why?
i'm totally sold, impressive car! great job on the review
The transitions at 13:04 are really nice.
Seems like Tesla really don’t want to sell cars in RHD markets, no way would I buy a LHD car here in the UK, too dangerous when overtaking etc.

I guess the extra power helps, but I'd think a car that's supposedly "in another league in terms of handling" would be the one setting better lap times at the track....
Handling is not how fast you can go around the track. Power to weight ratio has a say in the lap times. SMH.
And with a recent price drop in the USA The Plaid is now available there for the equivalent of GBP 74,000
I own a Model S Plaid and the speed and technology are both indescribable. It leaves my Ferrari and Bentley GT Speed in the dust!
@@inciwillard991 As do I in my Model S! So the screen size in the Model 3 & Y are 15" and the Model S & X are 17" does this mean Model S & X owners have to squint because our screen has a 2" advantage? NO! The point is that the font size can't be adjusted on the larger screen Screen size and quantity there of shouldn't matter. What matters is having the ability to Increase the font size on the main display no matter if there one or two screens.
The Plaid is the best of the best in every way, for many years to come !!!
Would still prefer a Taycan or a Lucid if it were not for the stupid trunk. There are much better all round cars than the Tesla, they focus far too much on acceleration which is way over the top for these cars.

The Porché EV IS NOT FASTER around that track or any other for that matter! Ever heard of the "track-pack" on the Model S? Even with the track-pack added, the Model S Plaid is still way cheaper than the Porché!
The ICE cars you are referring to are all dedicated sport cars or modified extensively for racing! There is not a single ICE vehicle in standard configuration, being a comparable family saloon, that comes even close!!!!
You take standard dedicated sport cars from the ICE age, like Ferrari, Lamborghini and Zonda, or C8 Corvette and McLarens, these are competitive with the Model S, but these cost more than double or way more than trippel the price and are dedicated sport cars that sounds crazy and has less range on a tank of fuel than a Model S on a single charge!! So get some facts and a bit of realism, will you?
The stock motor, stock weight Plaid with an aero package is beating all 911s GT3s, GT2 Rs around many tracks including Willow Springs, Laguna Seca etc. you can look up the records yourself.

I do love the Model S I don't know why they don't make different trims Sport, Luxury, Limo, and Chauffeur if they did this for both the S and the X it would be a winner
As does Australia, New Zeeland and all of Southern Africa...
No point mentioning India. Despite being the most populated country on the planet, very few people in India will ever spend this much money on a car.

Probably not enough volume to warrant another factory
Best luxury EV is the Lucid Air. It outclassed the Tesla totally in every domain.
Yeah software and the back of the car says otherwise :)
