    ----------------------------------------------
    Delta Comfort Plus on the 767-300/ER is one of those kinds of airline products that sounds great (in theory), but doesn’t quite live up to the name.
    This is a full review of my experience on Delta flight number 820 from San Diego to Atlanta in December 2021. I chose Comfort Plus (sort of like Premium Economy) for this segment, and if I had to do it all over again, I probably would have saved the money and went with basic economy instead.
    I had seat number 16A for this 4 hour flight, and the aircraft registration was N195DN. And yes, the Goldfish were spectacular (as all Goldfish are).

    Comfort plus is not premium economy its just an extra legroom seat with free alcohol. Premium Economy is marketed Delta Premium Select.

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  2 года назад +11

      Still though, to most people, paying extra for an economy seat with a few extra perks does make it seem like they’re getting “premium” economy. The whole naming and branding thing is really confusing.

      @@sanspotter definitely! You can't beat that layout.... I recently flew DL 763 from jfk to lax. I was actually looking forward to it, but the fact that you can't get a decent snack on board (not even buying it) made the experience not very good. Next time? A pre departure meal is a must.

  • @JuanWayTrips
    @JuanWayTrips 2 года назад +85

    I'm 99% sure no one has ever called Comfort+ "Premium Economy" 😆 (especially because Delta does have a proper Premium Economy product and never sells C+ as that). C+ is basically the same as AA's Main Cabin Extra and UA's Economy Plus. When I first saw this video, I thought it was going to be one of Delta's actual Premium Economy seats on a domestic route, but that gets marketed and sold as Comfort+.
    I think people can be overly positive about DL and they need more criticism (saying this as a Platinum Medallion), but this one kinda missed the marked. Your expectations were way off and never really aligned with how C+ is usually marketed.

    • @jasoncassady6286
      @jasoncassady6286 2 года назад +5

      They actually do sell C+ as their Premium Select seats on all domestic flights operated by the 767-400, A350, A330neo and select 763 and 332/3 flights that are equipped with the product.

    • @JuanWayTrips
      @JuanWayTrips 2 года назад +5

      @@jasoncassady6286 But the key is that it's sold as Comfort+, not PS. Flew their A350 between DTW and LAX last year. Got upgraded right away to their PS seats but it was marked as Comfort+, and the typical Comfort+ seats are marked as Preferred if there are Premium Select/Economy seats. Delta only sells Premium Select on international routes.
      American is the same way. Flew their 787 and their Premium Economy seats were sold as MCE.

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  2 года назад +21

      The point of this video was that most people (not frequent flyers) have no idea that Comfort Plus isn’t premium economy. Since when is paying for a better economy experience not “premium economy”? I knew I was taking a risk titling this one the way I did, but I’m basically calling delta out for having a confusing product naming scheme. 😄

    • @JuanWayTrips
      @JuanWayTrips 2 года назад +2

      @@sanspotter I feel like those same people are the ones who buy basic economy and then are shocked when they can't sit with their family and all have middle seats throughout the cabin. I know flying these days requires more research, but also these products didn't appear overnight. Maybe I'm just a mean grump, but I feel like many of the complaints, whether about Spirit, Southwest, or Delta, come from people who didn't take a few minutes to Google what they were getting.
      Now if you want a real scam, target the "preferred" seats the airlines have. Where they are literally the same economy seats (no extra legroom outside of the exit row) but cost extra unless you're a Silver Medallion (or higher) simply because they're at the front of the cabin. I don't mind the airlines having preferred seats for elites, but selling them to the general public seems like a money grab.

    OMG, Delta Comfort+ is so sad... I just did that on a small plane (same seat), but there you expect a seat like that. I was just wondering: if they call it Comfort PLUS, then they already would have to call their regular coach "COMFORT", right? Well, that's the last word that comes to mind. - but so nice that you did the report... Informative as always! And VERY clear to not choose that plane on a long flight to Europe!

  • @_w_w_
    @_w_w_ 2 года назад +4

    This is your own fault, my friend!! I disagree with just about everything in this video. Comfort Plus has its own priority boarding group - you don't need status! Your boarding pass actually showed COMF+, so you were all good to board early. Delta only allows Diamond Medallion and coveted 360 to board first with First/Delta One. Platinum Medallion and below status boards AFTER Comfort+. I know because I am Diamond... The gate agents sometimes don't announce but the display will show the proper sequence - it's computerized. Purple is for Diamond/360/First/DeltaOne, then Red for Comfort+... after that, Sky Priority, which is for Platinum and Gold...and SkyTeam Elite and partner elites. Silver Medallion gets to board barely ahead of non-status Economy. Delta actually use better seat padding in Comfort+ besides more legroom, they are more comfortable than the counterparts in UA and AA. In addition, you get premium snacks that Economy does not get. Lastly, you get free alcoholic drinks as well...even Domestic Comfort+. I think this is the case of you didn't figure out the perks/benefits of Comfort+ and incorrectly faulted Delta. The ONLY real fault of Comfort+ is when it's on a 767 - some configurations have these seats right next to the restrooms, which can be smelly and noisy on long haul flights.

    • @sanspotter

      The only thing I may have missed is the fact that they serve free alcohol in Comfort Plus. Not exactly something I’m craving at 6:30am. 😄 Perhaps I presented my thoughts poorly in this video, but the fact remains that I paid more for a better economy experience (“premium economy”) and it was essentially regular economy class with a few extra inches of legroom. I’m sure that comfort plus is better on other aircraft (the A350 and 767-400 specifically), but all I was trying to say was that it’s not all that great on the 767-300.

      @@sanspotter You are off on many things sorry to say. No, the Comfort Plus seats on A350 B767 A330 are not any better. They are the same. You are confusing "Premium Select" available on widebodies with that of "Comfort Plus". Comfort Plus is Delta's name for more-legroom economy. Premium Select is that of premium economy or deluxe economy. The widebodies' Comfort Plus is exactly the same as on you experienced. There is one other thing that Delta does well and that's keeping things very consistent. Last data to add, the Comfort Plus section's fare code is economy. Delta hasn't use the premium economy fare class designation for awhile now... Just because consumption of alcohol in early morning flight is not common, it doesn't negate its value. Much like in late night/midnight flights, many people do not consume caffeinated coffee, it doesn't negate the existence or value of that drink product. Again, having use the same "more-legroom" economy on UA and AA, Delta is still better. The cost premium of Comfort Plus is significantly less than Premium Select. Delta does a pretty decent job at listing all this during the book process and dynamically show the correct info for the aircraft type. I've booked and flown hundreds and hundreds of flights with Delta and the stuff you are pointing out is just not fair or accurate.

    'Me thinks' that it's all about what you can do with the difference in cost to maximize the quality of the overall journey. You can pay for first class and an 8 oz meal and an alcoholic drink... or premium economy with minimally larger seat with free bottled water... or just go coach and spend the money you save on hotel accommodations or whatnot. If you can get by without flying domestically you may wanna just drive, stay in mid classed hotels, and eat quite well for the same price. Remember... those sitting in the front are spending $thousands to get there.

    Yeah the issue is those 767-300s are old and outdated, so none of the upgrade classes are as nice as they are on the newer Delta planes. This is mostly about the route. Those planes are on the less traveled routes, so if you are doing one of those, you're stuck with the 767-300 -- you probably don't have a choice on Delta. The biggest benefit to Comfort+ is the 2 seat config on the sides. If you are traveling as a couple it's nice to not be stuck with one middle seat or someone between the two of you.

  • @bcshelby4926
    @bcshelby4926 2 года назад +2

    ...once out of the pandemic (if it ever happens) I am sure that cabin service will improve.
    That said, as someone who is tall with two forms of debilitating arthritis and circulatory matters, getting that extra legroom is a huge benefit. No way could I crowbar my tall stiff unlimber frame into a "steerage class" seat where the person in front ends up in my lap through much of the flight.
    Premium Economy seating is pretty much what Coach used to be in the days before deregulation. Basic economy, well, a Greyhound bus has more legroom (24" - 25" seat pitch). Yeah hat is ow bad air travel in the states has become.
    As to downsides, the two ones for me are flying on a narrowbody aircraft like a 737, 757 or A320/321 because you still have that cursed middle seat to deal with (like when nature decides to make a call) and you still pay luggage fees. which if like myself, you travel with two smaller suitcases (I do so to spread the full weight evenly) can add significantly to the cost of the ticket (140$ for a round trip with two checked bags). About the only carry-on I travel with is a small notebook computer case so as to make getting through the TSA checkpoint as quick and painless as possible.
    That is when I hit the reservation sites and see what prices I can get for advance purchase first class. I've been surprised on occasion to find at time the cost was not terribly much more after I add in the luggage fees to the Comfort+ fare. Once it was something like 32$ which is little more than what dinner and an evening at the cinema costs. Of course the benefit is worth the little extra, as you get to use the lounge, you board first and deplane first, the seats are bigger and you have even more legroom, and you actually get something more than a biscuit bag of crisps and bottle of water or high fructose laden soft drink. Oh and no bored 7 year old kicking the back of your seat throughout the flight.
    I do admire the fact that Delta Comfort is it's own specific cabin (Alaska does something similar) whereas the other domestic airlines just designate certain rows of seats (usually exit rows and bulkhead) in the main economy cabin for their "premium" service.
    Sadly, up here in Portland, just about every domestic flight on Delta (even to the east coast and Atlanta) is now a 737-900 or occasionally an A320/321 (not even an older A330, 767 or that sweet little A-220) hence why I usually take the train to SeaTac and fly out of there for a long trip.

      @@sanspotter ...yeah usually the difference between a "steerage" and Comfort+ seat is pretty steep. That's why I mentioned I search for deals in First that are not much more than Comfort when the luggage fees.are added. For example if a flight in Comfort+ is 790$ (which comes to 930$ with luggage fees) and there is a 960$ First class fare I'll pay the extra 30$ as there is no luggage fee with the latter. Then it doesn't matter if it's a narrow body jet.
      Granted, domestic First today is nothing like it used to be in the pre deregulated days or even before 9/11.
      Speaking of which, back then, First class domestic fares had no where near the markup from Coach ("economy" of the day) as they do today. Perusing some old schedules from the late 60s which listed fares in the back, the difference was between 6$ - 18$ one way. For example a one way First Class fare from San Diego to Washington DC on American in 1968 was only 15$ more than the coach fare. The same on United or TWA as fares were standardised across the board by the government.
