Hey - I wanted to give you an update on the family. Mom and Twins are safely home - two healthy baby boys! We had a little bit of turbulence the first few nights, but it was never anything too serious and everyone is doing great now - other than Mr. and Mrs. FNA being very much sleep deprived lol. Thanks so much everyone for your kind words and well wishes over the last few weeks and I look forward to returning to work soon... but probably not until the boys start sleeping longer. I've got videos uploaded and scheduled out through mid October though. Have a good weekend!
The start of this game drove me mad. Even when you do everything correctly you can't leave the police station if you have taken too long to do it. There are no clues, no clock and nothing to give you any hint other than the captain telling you to stop screwing around. This is one of my all time favourite games though and one I'll always have done memories of playing as a kid. That scene at the motel where you have to kick the door open, the airport, the thing that happens on the plane and getting stuck in the park at the end...I love them all..
We learned wnglish with that game when i and my brother were very little, we learned the word "trunk" and others before the ones in our native language, Spanish. 😄
The game Duskers was that last modern game i've played which had some text input system, there's still a place for these kinda games even in 2020 imho.
Duskers is an incredible and completely underrated game. The creepy and threatening atmosphere, the light homages to the 80s, and the terror - it’s amazing how a such a deceptively “simple” looking game can cause you to sweat in desperation and fear (and I use the term “simple” only in regard to its initial look - it’s a pretty deep game).
Always a pleasure to see more Sierra game videos. If you're looking to cover the slightly more obscure, not as popular ones, I highly recommend taking a look at Gold Rush!
This game was pretty difficult but I had lots of fun with it back in the early 90's. The gameplay doesn't translate as well today, but life then was a bit slower and it seems like there was less to do.
@@FridayNightArcade Growing up in Florida, I can totally relate! It was either raining or too hot outside most of the summer. I got a lot of shit from my mom and made fun of by my brothers' friends for being a "computer nerd", but in the 90's I made some lifelong friends from BBSes and learned skills that I still use today in my work. If not for the games, most of us back then would never have learned how to use a computer.
Good to see this video! I loved Police Quest 1 as a kid. I couldn't run Police Quest 2, but someone at my moms office could, so I bought the game and went with her into the office on the weekends and would load up Police Quest 2 and play away. Don't think I ever finished it.
You made it through the entire review and I didn't hear you mention "tedious" once! I kept waiting thinking that's what these games seemed like, interesting, but tedious. You have a future in diplomacy if this whole siring twins things doesn't pan out with endless riches.
Thanks this was a trip down memory lane, I also grew up with Sierra text adventures, Space Quest and Kings Quest mostly. Not all of them cuz games were pretty expensive back then for a kid on allowance but some friends had also some Sierra games and we had so much fun with the text parser wich at the time seemed like it had an hilarious awnser to experimenting with text input. The Larry games were also fun, this guy's father had it so when he wasn't home we would sneakily play it and I even revisit them sometimes on the scummvm. Good times
I grew up on all of the old Sierra classics. Had the complete KQ, QFG, SQ and PQ series. Although QFG and KQ were my favorites I loved playing the other series as well. Glad to hear everything is going well with the kiddos. Funny I got my undergraduate in CJ. Small world.
I think even beyond the point & click adventure genre, Police Quest serves as a fine example of a time when game publishers had no qualms about trying new things and actually making products to sell to the public out of the end result. It's very niche in it's meticulous attention to detail in proper police procedures and it sold enough to warrant sequels so there was obviously an audience for that.
Besides Nintendo consoles, my highschool and college years were also spent playing Sierra adventure games. It brings back a flood of memories every time you review one of these
One thing I loved about Police Quest was the fact that the game recognized bad words! My friends and I would be juvenile and try to ask characters for the most absurd things and do the most moronic things we could think of! Good times! I won't lie, though, the game honestly taught me a lot. I bought one of the more modern ones in the early 2000's and it came with the originals on floppy discs. And the way you have to pay attention to get anywhere, it really taught me to be perceptive. I still make have a tendency to check my tires before driving! *lol* I got nailed on not doing the four point inspection that it hammered it into my head!
My brothers and I loved these games as kids - we even memorized most of the mug shots for the copy protection, especially "Dickey" (What did you expect? We were kids). We did not get extremely far in the game and some of the content was over our head (same goes for when we played Leisure Suit Larry), but we had fun watching Keith get stuck trying to follow you and pulling the gun at inappropriate times.
Ah.....I missed this one, even though I did enjoy King's Quest and ImagiNation Network (way ahead of its time, at least for me). Might have to revisit this one. Cheers, Aaron!
My personal favorite game in the franchise was Open Season. Not just because it was the first one i played, but mostly because English is not my first language, and when i was young kid (11) it was rough for me to type commands.
LOVED Police Quest. I remember when these were re-released near the time Police Quest IV came out. The first game was totally re-vamped. If you haven't checked it out, give IV a try, too. It's QUITE DIFFERENT (yet not)
PQ2 was my first Sierra game and loved it as a kid. I replayed it a few years ago and still liked it. I wish PQ1 and PQ3 had mods to allow skipping the driving segments. Even has a kid driving got annoying so I'm sure I couldn't stomach that now.
Never played these games. But holy hell does it look in depth. Which is actually impressive. I would imagine it's incredibly easy to get stuck in this game.
I never played this game, but I adored Police Quest 3. Everything good about this without so much horridness...except the manual driving. They bring that back. :/
As a young teenager of the 80s and one not familiar with how pc's work I would go into the Computer section and look at all the Games box art and game screens with amazement always wondering what these games played like and now I know awesome!
Oh yeah, I remember in Police Quest 3 that you have to manually drive around, and if you try in on a modern computer outside of DOSbox, it goes so fast that you crash and die.
For a long time, I did not understand what it meant when Sonny knocked on the toilet stall door and the cop inside said "I'm giving birth to another sergeant!"
Thanks! I've been wondering about the Police Quest games for a while, as a big fan of both Deja Vu and all of the King's Quest games, but I can tell that these aren't for me.
I never played it but I watched playthroughs of it on RUclips by World of LongPlays....I like these! My dad was never a gamer but he was a cop for 30 years. I wonder if he would have like it? Anyway, thanks for the hard work Aaron! I hope you and the family are staying healthy and safe. Have a great weekend bud!
Can you do the VGA versions of Police Quest 1 & 3? Don't bother with the fourth game, since there's no involvement of Jim Walls, and you're not playing as Sonny. CRAP!

Wait what are you saying as far as getting the games? 6:25 or so? Also great video, I have been a fan of all the Sierra games since I was a kid, it is great to see them getting some recognition.
I'll have to look into that one. I've certainly had ideas for games but lack the technical know-how lol.... I tried to program a text adventure when I was a kid but couldn't make it work.
sierra Quest games almost ruined me. I then played Monkey Island, and love adventure games now. Why no love for Lucas Arts games? They did change the rules for this game type.

Keep up the great videos.
Awesome my friend!!!!! Congratulations!!! Cigars for everyone!!
Growing up as a 90’s kid... Sierra games and Nintendo were my life.
I loved sneaking the leisure suit Larry games into the house.
I hope to see more DOS games covered! You always have such thorough reviews and I love the old DOS games.

Police Quest II is my favorite Police Quest. The cartoon is so cool and it's just beautiful 😍
I like police procedural stuff, especially reading all the Harry Bosch novels. This game is totally up my alley.

The Roland MT-32 sound module OST was insane. Sierra even used it to market the MT-32 in their demo tape they mailed out.

I loved Police Quest 1 on my Amiga, so I’m looking forward to this video review.
I wasn’t really a fan of Police Quest 3.
I played Police Quest 3 back when it came out. Never finished it though. It's really good.

Been missing FNA!!
Studies are killing my free time for these retro reviews!!!
lol i like how the targets in the shooting range have their hands behind their back , straight out of a cops mind forsure.
Oh man, just checking all the items too see what was programed as a response. Love that these games.
That fricken drive the car somewhere but one slip and you explode :/ only part I hated

I’m so grateful to you showing love for my old world
Loved the "King Quest" series as well.
I remember playing the Daryll Gates game(5 or 6 I think). Found a murdered child in an alley dumpster in the first few minutes. Terrifying!
I loved Police Quest and Space Quest...Leisure Suit Larry too! ;)
Your graphic reminds me of the classic 1980's arcade video game, "Defender."
Interesting take on the point and click adventure great backstory as well
I never played this game, but I adored Police Quest 3. Everything good about this without so much horridness...except the manual driving. They bring that back. :/

I actually enjoyed the driving sequences in Police Quest 1, as a kid anyway.
You forgot the hilarious “drop pants” command in both the first two games that results in instant death (from embarrassment).
You handle this video here Friday Night Arcade, I'm gonna go have a smoke-Ken
Thank you for your service Arron
I always always ALWAYS look forward to these.
Please do.more.of.these! I hated these games but still played them till I got stuck. Wish there was internet back then.
LOVE THESE GAMES! Well the first trilogy anyway, they kind of go in a different direction later
Oh yeah, I remember in Police Quest 3 that you have to manually drive around, and if you try in on a modern computer outside of DOSbox, it goes so fast that you crash and die.
"Beat Cop" by Crow's Nest (a PC and/or Google Play (Android / iPhone): a scrolling Point and Click game (with a Mouse)...
Imagine these games now in VR? Would be sweet
I still have Police Quest III in the box. One of the few items I didnt sell, along with Heart of China.
I wish Lord's pf the Realm II would be ported to play on my phone. I dont remember police quest, but I do remember Swat 2 from Sierra.
This was my favorite game growing up lol!
Loved these as a kid
Saw your channel ad while browsing youtube. Looks great. Consider me subscribed!
Sound like lethal weapon movies

Would love to see some Leisure suit Larry review and some love for Lucasarts games
Great review as always! Never knew this one existed.
Whoever holds the rights should make a remake with modernized graphics and a friendlier interface with the option to switch to the classic version.
These are NOT text adventures, they're graphical adventures. A text adventure is a game like Zork where nothing except text exists.
One of my favs
Cool review, I get a Lucasarts vibe from these Sierra games, more please.
p.s do you get to join the Lodge in Police quest? lol
The male and female on the cover looks like siblings.
lol they do
It look like a good video game sequel. 😀👍🎮
