Ok I will try growing chia microgreens. This seems easy :D
I’d I can grow them, anyone can 😂 bet the budgies would love them!
Love love love !
Thank you 💙😊
Great, can’t wait to try this! Thanks 😊
Let me know how it goes 😊
YES!! 🎉I've been waiting for this 😄 I have been sprouting since I watched your sprouting video and we all love it here. Can't wait for my microgreens tray! 🥰
Let me know how your microgreens experiment goes 😁💙
Thanks for sharing :)
Thanks for watching :)
Must try this❤
Let me know how you get on 😊
I really need to try this 😊
It’s fun to watch them grow 😊
i'm 100% going to try this!!!
Let me know how it goes! 😊
This is excellent. Im going to do this for my bearded dragon Jewel.
I bet she will love it 😍
Can budgies eat these?
I’m a little late😅
I’m definitely gonna get one of these trays and try this out!!!
I’m sure my budgies would love these!
Thanks for the awesome video🥰❤️
I think they’ll love it too 😍 that’s for watching 😊
Micro greens are super easy to grow. I do a variety of plants and share them with my Budgies. They are not as keen on eating them but I feel they will eventually try them
I think they will try them eventually too 😊
Thanks for the good info! Through my organic gardening and foraging experience, I have some other ideas for cheap and healthy greens, herbs and flowers for parrots. In an untreated, non-pesticide yard, one can harvest clover and dandelion leaves and blossoms. In an organic garden it is easy to grow herbs that in many zones will come back on their own year after year: oregano, mint, thyme and lemon balm. At the end of their season the flowers they bloom are edible too! Organic marigold (calendula) and nasturtiums which are often grown as helpful bug deterrents in a garden have blossoms and leaves edible for people and parrots. Zucchini, squash and pumpkin blossoms can be eaten too. In addition to many safe herbs and greens that can be grown inside the home all winter, sweet potato leaves are easy and quick to grow as vines - both beautiful and delicious! Lastly, many of these herbs and greens can be easily hung to dry out. Store in a paper bag in a dry, dark place and you have free nutrients to add to your birds diet over the winter.
Fantastic, thank you so much for sharing your tips 😍 we are hoping to move somewhere with a garden so we can grow all sorts for the birds!
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Where did you find your trays? Also, what type of microgreen seeds should I look for please? I'm located in Canada.
I got them on Amazon 😊 and any human grade seeds for sprouting will be fine!
Thank you Sopie, for this information. I really want to try this for my birds! Do seeds need to be soaked before starting this process?
No the chia seeds in this video don’t need pre soaking!
I will definitely try this now! What other types of micro greens do you plan to do in that tray?
I’ve grown alfalfa before, but there are SO many options 🥰
My budgies would love to roll around in those and play with them lol not sure if they would eat them but they would definitely want to take a little micro green bath 🤣
Haha well it’s enriching none the less 😂💙
Budgies love bathing in most veggies so it doesn't shock me hahaha.
OH YES! The minute i put some fresh grown wheatgrass out for them the budgies IMMEDIATELY were flopping around in it haha@@SilkySmoothLatte
Hi Sophie! Thanks so much for everything you share, it has helped me look after my much loved little ones so much ❤❤
I have 2 questions, if I may..
The first, I am yet to be successful with broccoli seeds, both trying to sprout them in a jar or grow as microgreens. I’ve tried just as you shown in this video and a method with a pre soak but no luck- do you have any tips for this by any chance?
My second question! Can I sprout or grow as microgreens or plant any seed that is bird safe?
Thank you again Sophie, sending the best vibes from me and my Quaker flock to you!
Thank you so much for watching!
What would you say is going wrong with them?
And most seeds that are safe for birds would work but there are a few exceptions - feel free to message me with any specifics 😊
😊Hi Sophie, great video. What is the name of that seed and where would I buy them please.
Hmm- is it plausible to think that it could be the seeds? Maybe if I try new seeds it might work?
Thanks so much for your offer and help with the seeds too 🙏🏼❤️ any help would be awesome.
Atm the main ones I’m not 100% sure about what I can safely do with them are: amaranth (the seeds I have are beige coloured, almost like millet) flax, buckwheat, oat and wheat.
@@gemscorp0 yes it’s possible that the seeds are just a bad batch!
And all do the ones you listed can be fed soaked and sprouted - except: amaranth should never be fed dry! Flax can be soaked but I don’t do it often as it can go gloopy sometimes and doesn’t sprout well!
@@marcusengland220 They are chia seeds and you can get them from any whole foods type store!
BRILLIANT 🤩 Such lucky birdies to have such wonderful Parronts! 🦜 💜
Thank you so much 🥰🦜
Can we sprout quinoa like this?
You can but it would need to be soaked for 2 hours first! I haven't tried growing them myself yet!
Hi Sophie! Thanks for the in depth tutorial. I've heard that sunflower seeds are full of fat and not good for budgies. Do you think if I grew them into microgreens for my own budgies they would be any better?
Sunflower seeds are healthy in moderation and they contain vitamin E which is great for skin health! Growing them as microgreens is even healthier and definitely worth a go 😊
@@BirdNerdSophie Thank you so much for the prompt response. So you're saying that it would be good to provide this once a week or so? What do your birds diet consist of?
What kind of micro greens do they prefer
They seem to like these and alfalfa ones best!
Hello❤
Hello 😊
do you ever grow with a growing medium of sorts ..coco coir , etc? I have a difficult time without soil...must be my black thumb
Haha I definitely have a black thumb! I don’t use a growing medium as I have nowhere to store a bag of it, but you can absolutely use one if you want 😊
☺️so you grow all different microgreens on paper towels? Wow! Impressive. I'm trying the Chia and hope to dry other seeds. I believe!!!!
hi , can I use microgreens like you shown in this video, with budgies? I dont have parrots...please let me know
Yes you can 😊 and budgies are a type of parrot!
Just adopted a pair of tiel, they’re hand tamed and they’re used to me, (At the breeders place I was able to use a taming stick and when I was moving them from they’re travel cage to their flight one one of them even went on my fingers) should I continue the taming process as normal, or should I speed things up a bit as they’re still stressed from the rapid environment change, however was able to keep they’re old toys and perches, in their new cage in a similar layout
I’d say go at their pace - if they are stressed, go slow, if they are curious then you can progress 😊
Hey Sophie! Sorry to comment with a question but what is a good cuttlefish bone holder for my cockatiel?? All I can find online are plastic ones and I know he will chew it like crazy and I really don’t want him ingesting plastic ! 😭 I slid it through the bars but he doesn’t like it as much and seems a little nervous around it! What can I do? ✨
You could make a little hole in it and use some string to tie it up 😊 just make sure there’s no hoops or hoops that your cockatiel could get stuck in!
@@BirdNerdSophie thank you so much ✨🥺 I’ll try that in the morning when he’s bright eyed and bushy tailed! Paws crossed he will love his cuttlefish bone again 😌✨
Can they eat chopped pumpkin without cooking it?
Yes 😊
@@BirdNerdSophie Thanks for your reply, I tried mashed sweet potato but they don’t like it. How about passion fruit leaves?
I lovely know of the fruit being safe!@@yasuniw
@@BirdNerdSophie Yes, leaves are edible too but don’t know whether it’s good for cockatiels
They absolutely need a dark place right? Cause mine don’t grow as thick as yours
They do need to be kept dark to start with the grow tall!
@@BirdNerdSophiethank you! I redid it and it works ! Just need to see if my baby’s like them or not
