      AntsVienna nice video 👍🏻 I just had my first workers for my Lasius colony but they are a brownish. The queen looks like Flavus with a yellow underside and legs. Did your Lasius Flavus workers look darkish when they hatched and then turn orange or do I have a different species? Thanks for the help!

    Hey antsvienna do you prefer using plaster or ytong with your nests?

    • @AntsVienna
      @AntsVienna  3 года назад +1

      I personally prefer Ytong, since it has better breathing cababilities and is not as suseptible to mold. That being said, plaster gives you more flexibility in terms of shaping

    Quick question? Dont plastor nest mold easier? I would love to use plastor cuz it's cheap but I don't wanna end up killing my ants cuz of mold I'm hoping a plastor nest is able to be in use for a very long time for ants

    • @AntsVienna
      @AntsVienna  3 года назад

      Hello there. Yes, plaster does mold easier than other materials, BUT if you water the nest with moderation (not too much) then you should face no problems. If you want to be on the safe side, just connect the nest to an outworld and provide your ants with water via a liquid feeder there. ruclips.net/video/4umwrNBjhMk/видео.html

    Hi there! Absolutely great!
    2 things : for me personally it was too long the video, the speeded up parts you can speed up even a bit more I think.
    And2.: the chambers... Why haven't you made them deeper? Is that for a certain reason or just because you were in this mood? Wouldn't the ants like it a bit deeper so that they can have more space for the eggs and could spend more time in it?

    • @AntsVienna
      @AntsVienna  4 года назад +3

      Hello there! Well I can't change the length of the video now, but I can answer your second Question: I am planing to house a Tetramorium Caespitum colony, that's why the chambers of the green one are pretty shallow (Tetra are very small ants). While the chamber depth of the blue one is considerably deeper ;)

    Hi, how do the ants get access to water?

    • @AntsVienna
      @AntsVienna  3 года назад +1

      Hello there, you water the integrated sponges, which then transport the water into the nest walls around them. This allows the ants to absorb the humidity from the other side of the wall, without being able to escape. Hope this helps you out!

  • @commander1007

    I prefer the green one as the other one looks like it has been painted in the chambers which will make it harder for the ants to get the moisture they need because when acrylic paint dries it forms a plastic layer

    • @AntsVienna
      @AntsVienna  4 года назад +2

      That is correct. But here it comes - the inside of the chambers on the blue one has NOT been painted.
      I used a special procedure to give the wet plaster mixture color, without it being able to form this plastic layer.
      This way ants can be hydrated/drink normally and you get an awesome color combination ;)
