Really appreciate seeing a fellow bush fisherman. You are the only creator I've seen who fishes in totally isolated waters surrounded by brush like that. It's really my favorite kind of fishing and I love seeing someone else do it. Excellent channel!
My son found your videos on youtube and has been fishing obsessed ever since. He is 6 and caught his first Perch (he wants to catch a pike because they are his favourite) recently so thanks for inspiring the next generation.
Really pleased to hear about your lad, it's great news. You're very lucky to have permission to fish those ponds. Where i live they are all controlled by syndicates and often stocked with carp.
Brill to hear you son is doing good Chris my son was in a similar situation his blood oxygen sats were 89!! But it’s all good in the end! Sending our hearts to you all, stay positive!
I always think that with some of the small rivers/brooks I fish that have some relatively big pike. Must be lots of silvers, unless they’re just eating perch. Which there are plenty of.
I love it when you put a new video up, you've cost me a small fortune, I've bought a bfs set up and a small spinning rod with 10lb braid to do some dropshotting, listen to me? I've not a clue but had fun catching perch and jack on the ultra light gear! Great news about the little one. Take care from Scotland ❤
So glad that the Baby Is doing well Chris, My boy was on Oxygen as well, and pretty scary stuff. He Is six foot and 15 now. I love these forgotten pond vids. I have one with a Island In the middle you can walk across on a makeshift Bridge. Haven't fished It for years, they must be Massive In there by now. And like Yours, no one will have fished It. And that Is just one of hundreds In a short walk between them. Keep 'Em Coming.
Glad to hear your sons doing OK Chris. 👍 Also I think Sean from snagged bro aswell as yourself need to remember how to set the hook 🤣Tight lines and thanks for your work , the drone shots are awesome
Sorry bud I didn't know your kid was ill, good to hear he's getting better though. I've been using small spinners on the ultralight setup, after 7pm I've been catching perch almost every cast with a few pike and a 1lb roach. Was wading today up to my waist and tripped over a stone, head first into the drink. Soaked!! Waders ripped one leg full of water, ah the joys of fishing!
That's what I call a days sport fishing. The Pike might not be big but they are a lot of fun.☺ Great vid Chris and good to hear your baby boy is doing well too.👍
Hope you had a great birthday. Those 5 months have flown by. I've had a few perch on the same colour of lure too maybe they like that colour for some reason.
Places like these are pretty common here and we’ve been fishing them with unweighted in-line spinners since the 1940’s. You’d have a lot of fun with a 5 gram spin rod I guess.
Nice video, as usual, Chris! And I'm happy to hear good news about your son! Regarding what you say at 4:58 about the pike size, I've noticed that this year I'm catching smaller pikes on average and I'm wondering if it is because of the bad weather we had. Did anybody noticed that or is it just me?
So, I went fishing for pike this morning in a spot where I catch a fish 3 times out of 5, and when I blank I still have chases. This morning a man that lives there told me that about six weeks ago they found almost all fishes dead in the water, so I googled it and apparently the Enviroment Agency is investigating because there have been a lot of fish kills lately due to the heatwave in June and the tunderstorm that followed that caused a drop in oxygen level in the waters. So maybe that’s why it’s just jacks at the moment. The spot I was talking about is a small lake, and I usually fish the canals, that may have less oxygen than rivers.
Hey Chris, although the setups are great is there any chance you can tryout and show off some more budget friendly baitcasters and rods? its a nightmare trying to find a reputable brand of baitcaster setups that dont cost a bomb (i dont fancy spending an arm and a leg to try something out that i may not get along with)
Ref: The first Perch from this venue. The Perch will be competing for the same food as the Young Pike / Jack Pike and look to be losing the battle. I think there is too many small pike in this venue and if 60% of the smaller pike were removed from it. If someone doesn't keep on top of the management of this place then eventually all that will be left is loads of small stunted pike and nothing else. That in turn will lead to the Larger Pike eating all the other pike.
I feel like that's too many assumptions not based on much. They are small shallow ponds probably less than 100x100 meters in size, can't expect sizes bigger than that to be fair and the perch have probably been there since forever. Doubt there will be small stunted pike and nothing else, besides all waters have natural cycles which affects the size of fish throughout time. Also I think the natural aspect of the ponds are what is alluring to ginger, having human interference and managment would take away from that in my opinion
Question : do you have a filter on your drone camera (not necessarily from this video but from others you e done) that allows better view of fish - ie polarised lenses? Hope your wee boy is ok!
From Finland here. Interesting to see the methods and venues for pike and perch in the UK. The fishing looks cool but the venues look tiny to me, these ponds are very small. It appears you do not eat the fish you catch at all? We normally do not eat pike apart from occasionally smoking the smaller 1-1.5kg fish, but perch upwards from 32-33cm we usually eat, especially if we catch more than a few. It does seem easier to locate the fish in the smaller waters, our "ponds" are usually very much larger and locating the fish is thus a lot more difficult :) Good fishing!
@@leftmono1016 I can believe that as they seem to be very easily found in these videos and the fishing seems great, especially for chub! We have chub too but the bigger ones are not so easily found and I usually catch chub of only 20-30cm in length. I do also prefer small ponds in swampy woods for fishing, my favorite places are actually really tiny ponds, no larger than 4-5 hectares. What do you consider a "larger lake" in the UK? Over here I would call anything between 50-100km2 a medium-sized lake and then perhaps anything over 100km2 would be a larger lake.
@@janiharkki6860 - in the videos it’s a lot easier than most venues. Chris is a fantastically talented fisherman but there’s also plenty of fish where he goes. Which is good as we want to see him catch lots of fish 😀👍 I’m not really qualified to advise on lake size, although it sounds like you probably have a lot more larger lakes! Most large bodies of water here are reservoirs. I only really fish one lake, a Salmo Slider 10cm on a heavy rod almost gets to the middle! The little river I fished today, short underarm casts get to the far bank. That’s with a soft 5cm paddle tail and 1.5g. Sounds like you’ve got some really nice places to fish, although I assume it’s pretty tough in winter?
@@leftmono1016 good to hear it is not like that everywhere, it seemed way too easy to catch bigger fish there 😂Just to clarify though, do you eat the fish at all? We often fish for eating so the usually targeted species are perch, walleye, whitefish, trout, char, salmon, pike etc. sometimes also fish like ide, asp and bream for smoking. People fish C&R too but taking fish for eating is very normal. Practically nobody here is targeting chub, barbell, tench etc. so there are probably quite massive amounts of them with nearly 0 fishing pressure. It is in fact not very difficult to find lakes and rivers where nobody has fished in months, possibly even years. And yeah, just had a look at the UK on google maps and even at 10km scale it is very difficult to spot any lakes whereas if you look at FInland at 10km range, well... Everything is relative, but for me a 2km long and 1km wide lake would be quite tiny, so what you describe would be a puddle? 😊 Then again, the colder climate means the fish grow slower so the record fish are not as large as in Central Europe or UK. Being that all the waters are frozen during winter flyfishing would be tougher, yeah 😅 Icefishing is actually quite popular, drilling a hole in the ice and fishing from there. Gives a chance to target areas and lakes you normally need a boat for which makes it interesting, too.
@@janiharkki6860 - we generally never keep/eat any fish. In fact, it’s illegal on most waters. Unless you’re fishing a trout lake which has been stocked. So coarse fish, eg chub, barbel, roach, tench, perch, pike, have to be put back. I assume people who sea fish for cod, pollock etc keep some for eating. I only get chance to sea fish once a year, on holiday in Scotland, but always catch and release. Being able to ice fish in areas only usually accessible by boat sounds really interesting. The last time I walked on ice here was around 40 years ago as a kid. We don’t get thick enough ice where I am in central England.
Any tips on finding forgotten ponds. I scout google maps and go to these ponds i find but mpst of the time i end up coming across private fishing signs with no day tickets available. Sad priviticed waters everywhere;(

Great bit of pike fishing Chris 👍 you make it look so easy, well done.
Love to see you going after pike. In my part of the States we call them Northerns. Northern Pike. Should come to the States for some musky fishing!
Really pleased to hear about your lad, it's great news.

Glad your son is making good progress Chris, long my that continue👍 Enjoy your video's very much....
Glad young un doin ok 5 mts flown by . Great session keep the faith bro !
It's nice to have forgotten ponds. In Poland if pond is "forgotten" it gets poached until nothing is left.

Great video, good news about your son. Thanks mate 🙏🎣
It is nice to hear that your son is getting better. Keep up the great fishing work. Tighter lines.
Try hooking your softlure a bit "shallower" so you have more hook sticking out of the bait.
Glad your boy is doing well.
Great Video!
Good to hear the little un is on the mend Chris , cracking vid as always 👍
Happy birthday chap - great news about your youngest too - and typically ace content!
With all those predators in the pond, would be really interesting to do a session on the silvers to see what they are feeding on?
I always think that with some of the small rivers/brooks I fish that have some relatively big pike. Must be lots of silvers, unless they’re just eating perch. Which there are plenty of.
In Sweden you got a lot off lakes with only pikes left and they just eat each other !!
That first pike had some awesome markings on its face and gill plate
6:59. I would *LOVE* to see you come back and get some underwater footage of some this stretch of forgotten pond! The water is so very clear!
Nice to hear yr boy is doing well long May it continue
Awesome news about your little man! Great vid once again also buddy! Take care
Pike really do have a 3 second memory 😂
The effort you put into your videos is amazing! Always class stuff keep it up
Love the whistle from that reel as you cast . Another great video nice to see some perch in the pond. Great news about your son.

Such good news about your son got everything crossed for him and look forward to seeing him on the bank with you in a few years 👍👍 tight lines mate
Next time you hit that place I’d give some topwater lures a try. Seems like the fish are really aggressive
Feel a big perch challenge coming on

Perch would get in there by eggs attached to water birds and that pike maybe tried swallow a big perch spines dameged Jack
Your reel needs some oil by the sound of it, either spool bearings or spool shaft, maybe both🙂

You ever tried for carp or tench in these ponds
Chris, can you keep perch? They are tasty.
My qestion is do you slowly reel when lure fishing or fast with twitches ??
Have you any tips on helping my sore back spinning and casting
Did you drop the bait in down the last ones trout
Looking to get into pike fishing can you recommend a good rod and reel thanks
Did you ever try to catch the carp in there

Why do you call it a "jack" pike?
