The Hungarian Foreign Ministry entrusted Wizz Air to help repatriating Hungarian travelers stranded in North America due to the flight restrictions. Two aircrafts were sent. Wizz Air has a uniform fleet of A32x series aircrafts servicing mainly European destinations. The farthest they normally fly is Keflavik, Nur-Sultan, and Dubai. Given the limitations of the aircraft, this flight stoped for refueling on Keflavik and in Toronto before reaching Miami. Passengers first boarded in Miami then in Chicago, and finally in Toronto before taking off for Budapest via Keflavik. The other flight went to New York and Los Angeles. The aim was to bring home our countrymen in need. Open seats however enabled Wizz to bring back some Slovak, Croat, Slovenian and Serb nationals as well.
Thanks László! Yes that’s all correct. I believe the tech stop in Keflavik was because the aircraft wasn’t ETOPS qualified based on what I heard. I’m glad that alongside the Hungarians they were able to fit a few other nationals on board the flight as well.
@@ErnestGutschikAviation Hey Ernest! Thanks for this. From what I understand ETOPS regulation did not apply for these flights due to the choice of route. I'm no expert however, just read about it here: new.aeromagazin.hu/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=1397:wizz-air-j%C3%A1rat-los-angelesben-lerep%C3%BClt%C3%A9k-a-f%C3%A9l-egyenl%C3%ADt%C5%91t&Itemid=128 Great vid, by the way!
Nice site, I still remember flying on a MALEV, Hungarian Airlines 767 from YYZ to BUD back in the day. Good to see single isle planes crossing the Atlantic now.
Thanks! Me too, flew with them around 10 times whenever we used to go to Hungary. Yup, now it’s the single engine aircraft that are doing the work over the Atlantic.
Really awesome! I also noticed from FR24 that Wizz Air is also using the same aircraft to transport cargo from China, with a stop in Kazakhstan as well! Also it's just really cool that Air Transat operate this exact same aircraft type that we get to see it in Toronto regularly!
Much smoother atmosphere, regarding Wizz Air flightcrew, than the one experienced in JFK, on the account of ATC more understanding, friendlier attitude. And it's not that Toronto International Airport were a little frequented regional airport! Not at all, since its traffic normally equals Chicago's O'Hare. No matter how you slice it, Canadians are different from Americans. They are simply better.
Yes I saw that. Unfortunately for New York, their ATC usually has a very different approach for pilots- and for foreign pilots sadly not always the best approach from them at all. Which is funny too since Toronto has more ground movements than New York but the controllers are a lot more different.
Great footage again Ernest ! That is a nice bird. Just so I understand the route. Did the aircraft come to YYZ empty and then take on folks here the next day before departing for Miami to pick up more folks, then on to Chicago to pick up more folks, then back to Budapest ? Or did that same flight come back to YYZ again from ORD before going back across the pond ? Or is that arrival you captured at night the 2nd repatriation charter ? I am a little confused. Thanks.
Thanks! Yes. Aircraft came to Pearson empty, overnighted and departed the next day to Miami and Chicago and then Toronto. In Toronto, they changed crew and the other crew flew the rest of the leg to Keflavik and Budapest with passengers onboard.
Repatriation flights are flights that return citizens to their own country. In this case- Hungarians living in Canada were repatriated to Hungary- their country of origin.

Correct. I was told the same. Hence why they had to stop at Keflavik. I'll check out the link for sure.
Reméltem, hogy valaki megörökíti ezt a vissza nem térő pillanatot. Köszönöm. A felszállásról készült felvétel pedig egyszerűen pazar.

@@ErnestGutschikAviation Now that 5 has grown significantly over the last week :)
Well done Ernest! Love that livery. Sorry to have missed seeing it, but your video is the certainly the next best thing. Cheers, Ted
Thanks Ted! Appreciate that. Sorry you missed but there’s still more repat flights to come from many other airlines hopefully.

I really like wizzair liveries. Very recognizable in the world
Definitely. I mean it did look similar to WOW at one point.
Cool video, thanks for posting. Wizz doing London Luton to Toronto once this thing is over would be brilliant! Ha
Thanks! That would be awesome!
Great video, Ernest! Outstanding!

@@ErnestGutschikAviation You're very lucky to see it!! I was hoping to see it at EWR but it went to JFK instead :(
They had JFK in their itinerary from the off and frankly it makes sense. Go to the cities largest airport.
@@ErnestGutschikAviation True, but LH & LX are still operating at EWR & not JFK. I guess wishful thinking on my part.
Twr: Do you know your parking today? WZZ: Same like yesterday.
They parked in two different places actually so it wouldn’t be the same. That convo would have been funny to hear though.
AT JFK , ATC were real assholes to these Wizzair pilots.
Great catch here!
Thanks!
I saw this plane taking off
Good one Ernest 👌
