MPCC Backs MP Alfred Arthur's Call for Manipur CM Biren's Removal
Imphal, August 6, 2024 - The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has endorsed MP Alfred Arthur's recent call for the removal of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. MPCC Working President Kh. Devabrata, speaking at a press conference, asserted that Arthur's statement was justified and necessary. Devabrata emphasized that the ongoing violence in Manipur, persisting for over 14 months, demonstrates CM Biren's inability to maintain control and restore peace.
Arthur's speech in the Lok Sabha has sparked controversy, with some sections of the public opposing his views. In response, Devabrata reiterated that the Congress party believes a more capable MLA from their party or its alliance should take over the Chief Minister's role to address the crisis effectively.
"The MP's statement highlights the urgent need for leadership change. It is evident that the current Chief Minister has failed to bring stability to the region," Devabrata stated. The MPCC's firm stance aligns with their broader call for decisive action to restore order in Manipur.
