Got my ABYSS today from Amazon USA, and it completely Rocks, despite what others on youtube have said, i think this Restoration has given the Best the film has Ever looked and I for one am grateful i have it in my collection.
If you're happy with the abyss on 4K then chances are you are going to be blown away by aliens as well. I thought both looked absolutely spectacular and I'm so happy that I picked them up in the end. Toxic positivity is just as bad as toxic negativity. The transfer is definitely an upscale of the Blu-ray, there's no evidence against that. HOWEVER, if people enjoy it that's fine. No need for death threats.
I'm not sure if you're trying to insinuate that I'm being toxic in some way because I can tell you now that word doesn't exist in my world. I bought a movie. I shared my thoughts on it. I said in the video you don't have to listen to me. You don't have to listen to anyone just take a gamble and see for yourself. There is no right or wrong. If you love it that's fine. If you hate it that's fine. But all I ask is be pleasant about it all.
@@millerman9991 Yes that was my exact point. I was also trying to say people were being *too* positive by denying the factual statements about the transfer. I think it looks fine but the people who have negative opinions about it are being treated like whiners and people who love to complain. Take for example "Damn Fool Idealistic Crusader" his video about these discs was awesome but I've seen his video brought up in other spaces criticizing what he says in the video even though he backs everything up with evidence and owns every movie in practically every format.
Here's the problem that I have when it comes to these transfers. I have noticed whenever somebody stop by who enjoyed them they would simply say they enjoyed them. But the people who didn't like them always try to justify why they didn't and why people shouldn't like them. To be honest I am sick and tired of talking about these transfers. The whole topic is so juvenile at this point. I think people just need to move on
@@millerman9991 That is true! I feel like these people are bickering because they feel every single review out has no clue what they are talking about. Which I don't believe is true at all. None of these reviews mention they're experts or know what they are talking about and give honest reviews based on what they see. Which is awesome! I love that. RUclipsrs like Mr. Russo who claims *to* know about this stuff but gets it wrong all the time is what deserves to be called out in my opinion. He literally said Warner changed their aspect ratios on their Blu-rays from 1:39:1 to 1:40:1 which isn't true at all. It's the same ratio they just rounded up the number. It's perfectly fine when people do reviews but it's the ones who claim they're the experts. Personally, I liked your review.
@stitch2002 I really appreciate that. Like I said in the video I am no expert and I'm never thinking about videos when watching these movies. As a matter of fact I actually have a few beers on me when I'm looking at them 😆 🤣. I just talk about what I see and how I felt about it when watching it. I try not to be too descriptive because I don't want to take that experience away from anybody if that makes any sense.
Your enthusiasm really shows in this video and it's awesome that you are very happy with this release! I still only have this movie on DVD in an 8-movie set called "Alien Predator Total Destruction Collection" that I purchased 15+ years ago. This 4K release sounds like it would be awesome to check out, especially since I (finally) upgraded my audio a few months back. The original Alien in 4K is on for a good price at the moment I noticed.
It's so easy to be enthusiastic when you love a movie as much as I love Aliens. To see it looking the way it looks on this 4K release is such a gift and I honestly cannot wait to sit down and watch it again. I actually have that total destruction collection you are talking about in my collection. Alien as well on 4K is a real game changer. Look spectacular. I think you'll really enjoy both Mark. I can't stress to you how much I enjoyed watching aliens on 4K Wayne and honestly I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I did. What an experience it was
I received all three Cameron 4K titles. Love them! I guess I was lucky removing the stickers on the slips. Just had to take it slow and steady, and peeled the label at a 45 degree angle. A little Goo Gone Pro Power Adhesive Remover took care of the glue residue.

People nitpicking these films to the Nth degree, yet so many older film restorations, while looking great, all have certain scenes that look blurry or bad for some reason... it's the way they're shot, but they all get a pass from those same self righteous critics... and the grainier the better, it seems... Never understand that.

Thankfully on this release the good definitely outweigh the bad and I had an absolute blast watching it. Yes it does look scrubbed down and it would have been nice to see at least a little bit of Grain still present but it's still would never ruin my enjoyment of what is a fantastic movie. So many channels have been so negative & so very few have been as honest as yourself. However you look at it (I haven’t even seen a 4K I’m embarrassed to say) this is probably the best we’re ever gonna see these 3 movies, at least in our lifetime! 👍👍

Hi Keith. I enjoyed your video. I don't know if anyone else has mentioned, but River of Pain is an Aliens book about the colony on LV-426. It is also one of the 3 excellent audio dramas on Audible. They really are worth a listen.

@@millerman9991 I saw the Theatrical cuts for both as a Double Feature last year at THE BFI IMAX, there we people there who had never seen it before which was fun but it was a let down because Disney Didn't format it for IMAX, the picture was off

I finally caught up with this video last night Keith and so just dropping in to say "well done". You gave your honest opinion of this home movie disc and I hope everyone appreciates that. I haven't seen this 4K of ALIENS but I'm glad they clearly put a lot of work into it. I don't expect it to look much like the film I know but what would be the point in putting out something that looks like what has gone before? The makers of this have done the best work they can to give us something to make ALIENS look as well defined and as vibrant as possible and who can knock them for that? I don't suppose I'll ever watch the 4K after I've run it once as I have the film on film and that is my preference but for £25 for a pristine looking copy of ALIENS that you can keep forever, how amazing. Who would ever have thought we'd see this great film looking so good for so little a price? Anyone who is not happy with it, sell it on and stick with the previous Blu-ray. I'll be keeping my two Super 8 copies, my DVD, my three different LaserDiscs and my VHS tape irrespective of what I think of the 4K. Thank you for giving an honest opinion. John.
Hey John. If you notice I mentioned in the video that it felt like I was watching this movie for the first time because of how good the picture looks and the reason why I said that is because it's a very different kind of experience for Aliens. You've never seen this movie look this way and unfortunately purists simply didn't like it and that's okay I have nothing against that. It definitely has a more digital Look than film but as we mentioned to each other before that is James Cameron's intention and who are we to question him. I think if James Cameron had the means back then chances are that's exactly how the movies would have looked. I wouldn't like all my films to look like this but for some strange reason it worked incredibly well for the James Cameron releases and I honestly hope you give it a go someday and see for yourself. It's not just the views but the response it got in terms of comments has been incredibly overwhelming. I was very surprised by the amount of people that actually loved its 4K transfer. @@millerman9991 TRUE LIES should look fabulous given that it looks so darned good on PAL LaserDisc. It wasn't released on Super 8 but recently an hour long cut down was done (I don't think I've seen that) and the trailer was issued at the time of release. That trailer looks great on Super 8 so that should be an indication that a modern cine to video transfer of the negative would produce exceptional results. If it's gone awry then the mastering process must have spoiled it. Oh well, you can't win 'em all. John.

I was expecting to hate the transfer after hearing so much hate online. I was very pleasantly surprised. The clarity on most scenes is astounding. Like you, I also felt like I was watching Aliens for the first time.
I was just like yourself and maybe all the negativity helped me when it came to my viewing experience of aliens. I have never seen the movie look as good as it does and I will never fully understand why it's getting butchered in terms of its 4K transfer. Going by the comment section tonight it doesn't seem to be the case though. The majority of people seems to love the 4K transfers and it's great to hear that you do aswell. @@millerman9991 I watched it projected on a 75in screen. All the close ups look fantastic. The scene where Gorman is overwhelmed by the attack on his squad while Ripley is shouting at him to ‘do something’ : I can count all the beads of sweat on his face. It is really incredible?
I never actually realized how sweaty the aliens movie is 😆🤣. Just look at Ripley's face right at the end when she says punch it Bishop. There is so much fine detail to be seen across the board on this 4K release and I couldn't be any more happier with the outcome
Sometimes people forget why they love and fell in love with movies. Instead its become nitpicking every little detail. When i started watching movies it was on video where half of the picture was missing because nobody knew or gave a shit about the right format. But we still loved it. It was the best of times. Later i bought the Alien and Aliens box on laserdisc and was blown away. Now i can't wait to watch Aliens and the two others in a new light.
I Can't Help But relate to this comment because everything about it is so true. People are over analyzing these transfers and they are forgetting to enjoy the movie which is the most important thing. I have seen aliens evolve from VHS and every time I've gotten something new when it comes to each format and I'm happy to report that's exactly what I got with the 4K transfer. I really hope you get the same experience that I got out of it. What a night it was and I can't wait to watch it again
Hi Keith, 100% right in everything you say. I've just watched Aliens, and it looks absolutely stunning. Reminds me of the 1:85:1 anamorphic blu ray picture seen on the starship troopers release, very crisp. The facial features and beads of sweat, especially, stand out and just go to illustrate just how detailed and special this James Cameron 4k remaster is. I thoroughly enjoyed this 4k version, and it was like watching a whole new version of the film in a very good and positive way.
I think now you have an understanding of why I am so confused by why everybody seems to think the entire picture has a waxy appearance. There is so much fine detail to be seen across that entire movie it is borderline ridiculous at times and I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed it as much as I did. I honestly am baffled that people are mad that they get rid of the unsightly grain. Grain isn't reality. Saying no grain makes them look waxy is bizarre.
Honestly I do not mind film grain and its present on this transfer it's just incredibly fine but unfortunately that's not good enough for the purest. I couldn't be happier

Keith great review I agree with you sir about all the negativity on the three Camron releases I bought the Spanish Blu-ray release of true lies right before it got announce for 4k.and when I watched It i thought it was an improvement over the DVD and VHS versions I've owned before but when I received my 4k edition I was like wow its looks really good way better than my Spanish version. On the abysses it's my first time owning at all on home media i thought it looked great especial the Dolby Atmos was awesome I haven't received my copy of aliens now I'm super excited to see it after watching your review take care my friend and have a great day.

I agree, a few things didn't look right, but overall good. How can a movie almost 40 years old with this many special effects be perfect?

100 facts. The fun is watching and experiencing the movies! Hell I was brought up on pirate tapes hahah. So seeing the evolution of pic quality and being the home video generation it’s amazing. I loved all 3 transfers. Because I have the tech to support it. I put on imax enhanced mode on the Sony OLED and it was amazing. People hate cos they don’t appreciate where it came from.
You've hit the nail on the head. You have your TV calibrated to the settings that you appreciate and you shouldn't have to justify them to anybody. I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed all three transfers as much as I did even though I still think True Lies had its issues but take nothing away from it it's still the best it's ever looked. @@millerman9991 always bro. I love ur videos. U truly are the only one I can relate too. Hahah True lies was a good transfer. Again I saw it in the cinema then vhs then dvd. So anything is better than that. There is so much that goes into a good viewing experience. If u get an 70 in a OLED and sit 6 ft away. You will notice all the imperfections. But if u sit back at 20 ft. It’s clean hahah. People don’t get it. BTW one disadvantage of 4K in aliens was. I never realized how much of the backgrounds were matte paintings HAHHA. This opened those up for me.
@javdee7860 everybody is going to have a different viewing experience depending on their equipment and that's never taken into consideration. You are absolutely correct when you sit back as far as you do you are never going to see the imperfections. But yes unfortunately 4K does come with its issues. It makes you aware of things that you might not have noticed before. You're absolutely correct there

Anyway, I knew you would be impressed with this transfer, I loved it. Now the viewers have had a great review on this movie, they can feel safe to go out and buy it.

I honestly don't know what to tell you Adam. There are people out there who are going to be blown away by this transfer me being one of them and then there's others that hate how it looks. Take a gamble and see if it works out for you.
I absolutely agree Keith, I've seen the 4K transfers of Aliens and the Abyss and I thought they looked and sounded excellent especially the Dolby Atmos. I think most of the hate comes from people not liking James Cameron himself. Anyway, things are going to get more crazy when the Terminator 1 and 2 4K transfers are released. Thanks for the review.
I was actually told there is already complaints made against the 4K release of Terminator. That's exactly what I'm talking about in the video people complaining about things they simply have not seen. I will never fully understand the negativity surrounding all three of these James Cameron 4K transfers. I was absolutely blown away by them and if Terminator Looks Like These then happy days. Hey Ian. I try not to open the flood Gates two early because I don't want to break my immersion when it comes to the movie. You should have seen the state of me come the end of it. Hi keith, I'll be honest as always and say I've only watched one previous review of the Cameron 4k releases, and it was far too nitpicking for my liking and was like screw this why dit there and rip the disc apart when clearly its a stepup from the already great blu ray. Each to their own on what they do on their channel . This review from yourself now i enjoyed it as it's honest and passionate and, like you say, not over analysing. For me, a review from a movie enthusiast who appreciates movies looking great is what i like to see. I do have a copy of the abyss coming my way and may pickup true lies but no rush. Not sure if I will get Aliens as im not upgrading titles currently if i have them on blu ray official releases.
That's the one thing when it comes to myself Dan I will always try to be as simplistic as I can be when it comes to reviewing 4K releases like this. I never want to over analyze anything because like I said in the video all you're going to do is rune the experience of watching the movie and that's simply doesn't sit well with me. There is a lot of nitpicking going on which is such a shame because the 4K transfer deserves so much better than what it's getting at the moment. I'm honestly hoping I've done it Justice with this video. I've watched The Abyss as well and I was equally as impressed and True Lies has its issues but it's still looks great. Just got The Abyss today and am watching it now. Amazing film and transfer. I'm looking forward to Aliens and True Lies in April . Amazes me how people claim they watched it on release and remember the colour timing/grain structure but if you asked them what they ate three weeks ago cannot remember. Most of the hate has came from the streaming version which never is as good as disc. People need to watch and decide for themselves not because somebody on a forum says its good bad or ugly.

Exactly. It's bizarre that people echo chamber what a reviewer says in the comments sections like it's just an ultimate truth. It's funny, I had people getting mad that I wasn't going to be upset with lack of film grain, but none of those same people wanted to trade me their 4K copy for my special edition dvd. lol
@@Chrisicola well I will keep my Abyss SE. Just got to the part where Cameron has sent Bud to the bottom of the trench to retrieve a none waxy version of T2 Judgement Day. 🤣🤣. I remember with Aliens the jump from DVD to Blu-ray. You could actually see the Aliens when she goes to rescue Newt. Think a lot of people saw AI being used and thought T2 but T2 is off the 3D which needs to be as smooth as an andriods bottom to work. Expect the forum threads to go nuclear before The Terminator comes out.
Hi Keith. Pleased you finally got it. Great review mate. Mine arrived Friday and I dont think I can add anything that you havent already said. I thought it was brilliant. Like you I dont over analayse, I just watch it and enjoy it and I actually think this is one of the most impressive enhancements Ive seen on 4k when compared to the original version. I understand that some people like a bit more grain but nobody can argue with the sheer clarity on display here. Ive seen Aliens so many times Ive lost count and said the same thing, its like watching it again for the 1st time. Just so impressed with the picture. Ive been waiting for this one since I got a 4k tv and player. Alien was the 1st 4k I picked up and now we have Aliens on 4k at last.

@@millerman9991 Honestly Keith I was wowed by it and it put a huge smile on my face. I have so much love for the film and was worried that it might have gone the T2 route so was so happy to see it didnt. The Atmos is great also as you say. Its always been a standout that way for me with the iconic sounds of the motion tracker and pulse rifles along with the Alien screams. And that music is perfect. James Cameron gave us possibly the 2 best sequels ever, Aliens and T2. I just hope that Romulus gives us a good Alien film. We are definitely due one. Im really looking forward to it
The one thing I will say when it comes to alien Romulus it looks incredibly faithful. It's amazing to think that it's only a one minute trailer but it got me so incredibly excited. I honestly appreciate you saying that Chris. I have a fantastic community around me and I know you'll all have my back if the time ever came. But going back to that trailer it does seem like the treat is coming from the facehuggers more than anything else. I thought it looks so good. Something different that we've never seen before
I've seen people using heat comparisons and looking at the BITS and I was like "Do you have Geordi LaForge vision or something?" The over-analysis of this transfer is insane. People can not like it. That's fine but to go to such lengths to "prove" why everyone else should dislike it and are horrible people for enjoying it is crazy. These people need to take a step back, go outside and touch some grass. I have zero doubt that I will enjoy my copy of Aliens on 4k when it ends up in my grubby mitts. Thanks for a sensible review! EDIT: I also imported a copy of The Abyss (which I haven't owned since my VHS tapes got thrown away) and it is absolutely fantastic. Enjoy!
I hope you get as much of an experience out of it as I did. Like I said in the video there is no right or wrong. Some people are going to love it others are going to hate it but I just think everybody should just respect everybody else's opinions and not try to influence them. I just came by your channel and I must say this is one of the best reviews I have seen for anything. Aliens is a top 3 movie for me, and to see that same enthusiasm, recognition and respect for this movie and genre from someone else really resonated with me. Amazing review! Got my ABYSS today from Amazon USA, and it completely Rocks, despite what others on youtube have said, i think this Restoration has given the Best the film has Ever looked and I for one am grateful i have it in my collection.
If you're happy with the abyss on 4K then chances are you are going to be blown away by aliens as well. I thought both looked absolutely spectacular and I'm so happy that I picked them up in the end. Toxic positivity is just as bad as toxic negativity. The transfer is definitely an upscale of the Blu-ray, there's no evidence against that. HOWEVER, if people enjoy it that's fine. No need for death threats.
I'm not sure if you're trying to insinuate that I'm being toxic in some way because I can tell you now that word doesn't exist in my world. I bought a movie. I shared my thoughts on it. I said in the video you don't have to listen to me. You don't have to listen to anyone just take a gamble and see for yourself. There is no right or wrong. If you love it that's fine. If you hate it that's fine. But all I ask is be pleasant about it all.
@@millerman9991 Yes that was my exact point. I was also trying to say people were being *too* positive by denying the factual statements about the transfer. I think it looks fine but the people who have negative opinions about it are being treated like whiners and people who love to complain. Take for example "Damn Fool Idealistic Crusader" his video about these discs was awesome but I've seen his video brought up in other spaces criticizing what he says in the video even though he backs everything up with evidence and owns every movie in practically every format.
Here's the problem that I have when it comes to these transfers. I have noticed whenever somebody stop by who enjoyed them they would simply say they enjoyed them. But the people who didn't like them always try to justify why they didn't and why people shouldn't like them. To be honest I am sick and tired of talking about these transfers. The whole topic is so juvenile at this point. I think people just need to move on
@@millerman9991 That is true! I feel like these people are bickering because they feel every single review out has no clue what they are talking about. Which I don't believe is true at all. None of these reviews mention they're experts or know what they are talking about and give honest reviews based on what they see. Which is awesome! I love that. RUclipsrs like Mr. Russo who claims *to* know about this stuff but gets it wrong all the time is what deserves to be called out in my opinion. He literally said Warner changed their aspect ratios on their Blu-rays from 1:39:1 to 1:40:1 which isn't true at all. It's the same ratio they just rounded up the number. It's perfectly fine when people do reviews but it's the ones who claim they're the experts. Personally, I liked your review.
@stitch2002 I really appreciate that. Like I said in the video I am no expert and I'm never thinking about videos when watching these movies. As a matter of fact I actually have a few beers on me when I'm looking at them 😆 🤣. I just talk about what I see and how I felt about it when watching it. I still only have this movie on DVD in an 8-movie set called "Alien Predator Total Destruction Collection" that I purchased 15+ years ago. This 4K release sounds like it would be awesome to check out, especially since I (finally) upgraded my audio a few months back. The original Alien in 4K is on for a good price at the moment I noticed.

I received all three Cameron 4K titles. Love them! I guess I was lucky removing the stickers on the slips. Just had to take it slow and steady, and peeled the label at a 45 degree angle. A little Goo Gone Pro Power Adhesive Remover took care of the glue residue.

People nitpicking these films to the Nth degree, yet so many older film restorations, while looking great, all have certain scenes that look blurry or bad for some reason... it's the way they're shot, but they all get a pass from those same self righteous critics... and the grainier the better, it seems...

Thankfully on this release the good definitely outweigh the bad and I had an absolute blast watching it. Yes it does look scrubbed down and it would have been nice to see at least a little bit of Grain still present but it's still would never ruin my enjoyment of what is a fantastic movie. So many channels have been so negative & so very few have been as honest as yourself. However you look at it (I haven’t even seen a 4K I’m embarrassed to say) this is probably the best we’re ever gonna see these 3 movies, at least in our lifetime! 👍👍
That is the perfect way of looking at it David and of course you are absolutely correct. All three looked their best and chances are this is the best we are ever going to get. I finally caught up with this video last night Keith and so just dropping in to say "well done". You gave your honest opinion of this home movie disc and I hope everyone appreciates that. I haven't seen this 4K of ALIENS but I'm glad they clearly put a lot of work into it. I don't expect it to look much like the film I know but what would be the point in putting out something that looks like what has gone before? The makers of this have done the best work they can to give us something to make ALIENS look as well defined and as vibrant as possible and who can knock them for that? I don't suppose I'll ever watch the 4K after I've run it once as I have the film on film and that is my preference but for £25 for a pristine looking copy of ALIENS that you can keep forever, how amazing. Who would ever have thought we'd see this great film looking so good for so little a price? Anyone who is not happy with it, sell it on and stick with the previous Blu-ray. I'll be keeping my two Super 8 copies, my DVD, my three different LaserDiscs and my VHS tape irrespective of what I think of the 4K.

Hey John. If you notice I mentioned in the video that it felt like I was watching this movie for the first time because of how good the picture looks and the reason why I said that is because it's a very different kind of experience for Aliens. You've never seen this movie look this way and unfortunately purists simply didn't like it and that's okay I have nothing against that. It definitely has a more digital Look than film but as we mentioned to each other before that is James Cameron's intention and who are we to question him. I think if James Cameron had the means back then chances are that's exactly how the movies would have looked. I wouldn't like all my films to look like this but for some strange reason it worked incredibly well for the James Cameron releases and I honestly hope you give it a go someday and see for yourself. I think I have every iteration of it and I don't suppose anyone else on RUclips has so it will make for an interesting little project. I see this video is doing very well and that's brilliant. @@millerman9991 TRUE LIES should look fabulous given that it looks so darned good on PAL LaserDisc. It wasn't released on Super 8 but recently an hour long cut down was done (I don't think I've seen that) and the trailer was issued at the time of release. That trailer looks great on Super 8 so that should be an indication that a modern cine to video transfer of the negative would produce exceptional results. If it's gone awry then the mastering process must have spoiled it. Oh well, you can't win 'em all. John.

I was expecting to hate the transfer after hearing so much hate online. I was very pleasantly surprised. The clarity on most scenes is astounding.
Like you, I also felt like I was watching Aliens for the first time.
I was just like yourself and maybe all the negativity helped me when it came to my viewing experience of aliens. I have never seen the movie look as good as it does and I will never fully understand why it's getting butchered in terms of its 4K transfer. Going by the comment section tonight it doesn't seem to be the case though. The majority of people seems to love the 4K transfers and it's great to hear that you do aswell. @@millerman9991 I watched it projected on a 75in screen. All the close ups look fantastic. The scene where Gorman is overwhelmed by the attack on his squad while Ripley is shouting at him to ‘do something’ : I can count all the beads of sweat on his face. It is really incredible?
I never actually realized how sweaty the aliens movie is 😆🤣. Just look at Ripley's face right at the end when she says punch it Bishop. There is so much fine detail to be seen across the board on this 4K release and I couldn't be any more happier with the outcome
Sometimes people forget why they love and fell in love with movies. Instead its become nitpicking every little detail. When i started watching movies it was on video where half of the picture was missing because nobody knew or gave a shit about the right format. But we still loved it. It was the best of times. Later i bought the Alien and Aliens box on laserdisc and was blown away. Now i can't wait to watch Aliens and the two others in a new light.
I Can't Help But relate to this comment because everything about it is so true. People are over analyzing these transfers and they are forgetting to enjoy the movie which is the most important thing. I have seen aliens evolve from VHS and every time I've gotten something new when it comes to each format and I'm happy to report that's exactly what I got with the 4K transfer. I really hope you get the same experience that I got out of it. What a night it was and I can't wait to watch it again

Hi Keith, 100% right in everything you say. I've just watched Aliens, and it looks absolutely stunning. Reminds me of the 1:85:1 anamorphic blu ray picture seen on the starship troopers release, very crisp. The facial features and beads of sweat, especially, stand out and just go to illustrate just how detailed and special this James Cameron 4k remaster is. I thoroughly enjoyed this 4k version, and it was like watching a whole new version of the film in a very good and positive way.
I think now you have an understanding of why I am so confused by why everybody seems to think the entire picture has a waxy appearance. There is so much fine detail to be seen across that entire movie it is borderline ridiculous at times and I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed it as much as I did. What an experience it was and I honestly cannot wait to sit down and watch it again. Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and for sharing your thoughts on this. I honestly am baffled that people are mad that they get rid of the unsightly grain. Grain isn't reality. Saying no grain makes them look waxy is bizarre.
Honestly I do not mind film grain and its present on this transfer it's just incredibly fine but unfortunately that's not good enough for the purest. I couldn't be happier

Keith great review I agree with you sir about all the negativity on the three Camron releases I bought the Spanish Blu-ray release of true lies right before it got announce for 4k.and when I watched It i thought it was an improvement over the DVD and VHS versions I've owned before but when I received my 4k edition I was like wow its looks really good way better than my Spanish version. On the abysses it's my first time owning at all on home media i thought it looked great especial the Dolby Atmos was awesome I haven't received my copy of aliens now I'm super excited to see it after watching your review take care my friend and have a great day.

100 facts. The fun is watching and experiencing the movies! Hell I was brought up on pirate tapes hahah. So seeing the evolution of pic quality and being the home video generation it’s amazing. I loved all 3 transfers. Because I have the tech to support it. I put on imax enhanced mode on the Sony OLED and it was amazing. People hate cos they don’t appreciate where it came from.
You've hit the nail on the head. You have your TV calibrated to the settings that you appreciate and you shouldn't have to justify them to anybody. I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed all three transfers as much as I did even though I still think True Lies had its issues but take nothing away from it it's still the best it's ever looked. True lies was a good transfer. Again I saw it in the cinema then vhs then dvd. So anything is better than that. There is so much that goes into a good viewing experience. If u get an 70 in a OLED and sit 6 ft away. You will notice all the imperfections. But if u sit back at 20 ft. It’s clean hahah. People don’t get it.
BTW one disadvantage of 4K in aliens was. I never realized how much of the backgrounds were matte paintings HAHHA. This opened those up for me.
@javdee7860 everybody is going to have a different viewing experience depending on their equipment and that's never taken into consideration. You are absolutely correct when you sit back as far as you do you are never going to see the imperfections. But yes unfortunately 4K does come with its issues. It makes you aware of things that you might not have noticed before. You're absolutely correct there
First off, well said Keith about the haters. We don't need their opinions. I couldn't understand the negative review but most of them came from across the pond. Anyway, I knew you would be impressed with this transfer, I loved it. Now the viewers have had a great review on this movie, they can feel safe to go out and buy it.
I've said it numerous times Gary but I always trust your opinion and as soon as you told me how good this looked I knew I was going to enjoy it. So thank you so much for putting my mind at ease. I really do hope people give this a go because it deserves to be seen. I've never seen it look this way before and like I said in the video it felt like I was watching it for the first time. I honestly don't know what to tell you Adam. There are people out there who are going to be blown away by this transfer me being one of them and then there's others that hate how it looks. Take a gamble and see if it works out for you.
I absolutely agree Keith, I've seen the 4K transfers of Aliens and the Abyss and I thought they looked and sounded excellent especially the Dolby Atmos. I think most of the hate comes from people not liking James Cameron himself. Anyway, things are going to get more crazy when the Terminator 1 and 2 4K transfers are released. Thanks for the review.
I was actually told there is already complaints made against the 4K release of Terminator. That's exactly what I'm talking about in the video people complaining about things they simply have not seen. I will never fully understand the negativity surrounding all three of these James Cameron 4K transfers. I was absolutely blown away by them and if Terminator Looks Like These then happy days. I will say I prefer the video presentation of the blu-ray vs the 4K, but this new release is worth it for the Atmos mix alone.

Hey Ian. I try not to open the flood Gates two early because I don't want to break my immersion when it comes to the movie. You should have seen the state of me come the end of it. I said it a few times on the comment section tonight but all I can do is share my thoughts on that first viewing and I will never over analyze anything in fear of ruining the viewing experience. I really hope you get As much out of it as I did. That trailer for alien Romulus looked phenomenal. Cannot wait to see it

Hi keith, I'll be honest as always and say I've only watched one previous review of the Cameron 4k releases, and it was far too nitpicking for my liking and was like screw this why dit there and rip the disc apart when clearly its a stepup from the already great blu ray. Each to their own on what they do on their channel . This review from yourself now i enjoyed it as it's honest and passionate and, like you say, not over analysing. For me, a review from a movie enthusiast who appreciates movies looking great is what i like to see. I do have a copy of the abyss coming my way and may pickup true lies but no rush. Not sure if I will get Aliens as im not upgrading titles currently if i have them on blu ray official releases.
That's the one thing when it comes to myself Dan I will always try to be as simplistic as I can be when it comes to reviewing 4K releases like this. I never want to over analyze anything because like I said in the video all you're going to do is rune the experience of watching the movie and that's simply doesn't sit well with me. There is a lot of nitpicking going on which is such a shame because the 4K transfer deserves so much better than what it's getting at the moment. I'm honestly hoping I've done it Justice with this video. I've watched The Abyss as well and I was equally as impressed and True Lies has its issues but it's still looks great. Just got The Abyss today and am watching it now. Amazing film and transfer. I'm looking forward to Aliens and True Lies in April . Amazes me how people claim they watched it on release and remember the colour timing/grain structure but if you asked them what they ate three weeks ago cannot remember. Most of the hate has came from the streaming version which never is as good as disc. People need to watch and decide for themselves not because somebody on a forum says its good bad or ugly.

Exactly. It's bizarre that people echo chamber what a reviewer says in the comments sections like it's just an ultimate truth. It's funny, I had people getting mad that I wasn't going to be upset with lack of film grain, but none of those same people wanted to trade me their 4K copy for my special edition dvd. lol
@@Chrisicola well I will keep my Abyss SE. Just got to the part where Cameron has sent Bud to the bottom of the trench to retrieve a none waxy version of T2 Judgement Day. 🤣🤣. I remember with Aliens the jump from DVD to Blu-ray. You could actually see the Aliens when she goes to rescue Newt. Think a lot of people saw AI being used and thought T2 but T2 is off the 3D which needs to be as smooth as an andriods bottom to work. Expect the forum threads to go nuclear before The Terminator comes out.
Hi Keith. Pleased you finally got it. Great review mate. Mine arrived Friday and I dont think I can add anything that you havent already said. I thought it was brilliant. Like you I dont over analayse, I just watch it and enjoy it and I actually think this is one of the most impressive enhancements Ive seen on 4k when compared to the original version. I understand that some people like a bit more grain but nobody can argue with the sheer clarity on display here.
Ive seen Aliens so many times Ive lost count and said the same thing, its like watching it again for the 1st time. Just so impressed with the picture. Ive been waiting for this one since I got a 4k tv and player. Alien was the 1st 4k I picked up and now we have Aliens on 4k at last.

I have never seen aliens look this way before and it's probably why it felt like I was watching it for the first time. But not only that you get that immersive Dolby Atmos audio as well which is a game changer and I'm sure that contributed to why I enjoyed it as much as I did. I buy 4K movies to enjoy them not to over analyze them. Where is the fun in that. All I can do is share what I seen on that first viewing and hopefully it will give people an idea of what to expect. @@millerman9991 Honestly Keith I was wowed by it and it put a huge smile on my face. I have so much love for the film and was worried that it might have gone the T2 route so was so happy to see it didnt.
The Atmos is great also as you say. Its always been a standout that way for me with the iconic sounds of the motion tracker and pulse rifles along with the Alien screams. And that music is perfect.
James Cameron gave us possibly the 2 best sequels ever, Aliens and T2.
I just hope that Romulus gives us a good Alien film. We are definitely due one. Im really looking forward to it
The one thing I will say when it comes to alien Romulus it looks incredibly faithful. It's amazing to think that it's only a one minute trailer but it got me so incredibly excited. I really hope it delivers. But again Chris I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed the transfer as much as I did. I actually thought I was going to get ridiculed for praising it the way I did. I honestly appreciate you saying that Chris. I have a fantastic community around me and I know you'll all have my back if the time ever came. But going back to that trailer it does seem like the treat is coming from the facehuggers more than anything else. I thought it looks so good. Something different that we've never seen before
I've seen people using heat comparisons and looking at the BITS and I was like "Do you have Geordi LaForge vision or something?" The over-analysis of this transfer is insane.
People can not like it. That's fine but to go to such lengths to "prove" why everyone else should dislike it and are horrible people for enjoying it is crazy. These people need to take a step back, go outside and touch some grass.
I have zero doubt that I will enjoy my copy of Aliens on 4k when it ends up in my grubby mitts. Thanks for a sensible review!

I hope you get as much of an experience out of it as I did. Like I said in the video there is no right or wrong. Some people are going to love it others are going to hate it but I just think everybody should just respect everybody else's opinions and not try to influence them. I just came by your channel and I must say this is one of the best reviews I have seen for anything. Aliens is a top 3 movie for me, and to see that same enthusiasm, recognition and respect for this movie and genre from someone else really resonated with me. Amazing review! Would you know if streaming 4k from online platforms etc is a comparable experience to UHD blu-ray for both picture/audio wise? I am considering whether to buy a blu-ray player.

I don't really have too much experience when it comes to streaming but the few movies that I have seen looked pretty good but they will never look as good as physically owning the item. I would definitely look into picking up a Blu-ray player

Alien and Aliens are absolutely two of my favorite movies. I just received my Aliens and True Lies 4K copies and will be watching them shortly. I also have a home theater with 5.1.4 for ATMOS and really looking forward to the audio enhancements. Screw those nitpicking reviewers!
