- Im not sure whats going through peoples brains right now. But the bizarre assortment of cars we have been getting lately is fine by me! From Taurus SHOs to Porsche we have em all! This is a pretty sweet 1986 Jaguar Xj6 and its very complete. This would be great for parts or maybe even to restore if your into these cars. Its not a project for myself, and I wouldn't even know where to begin on this thing. But overall it seems very sold, and would be useful to a jaguar nut Im sure. I hope you enjoy this MXguy95 production. Drop a comment down below and let us know, and we will see you in the next one guys. Thanks for watching !
3:35 OMG I died laughing.
I bet thats not the strangest thing you would find in the yard XD
I have found ALOT worse haha.
Jay Smart i found prison letters with the grammar and spelling of a first grader
XD I see boobs
dude its 1AM and your comment made me go to that video fragment and laugh like a maniac lol
Jay Smart that dirty old jaguar 😂
Pause at 3:37! Maybe that's why the seats are so worn out!
My name is Nigel Biggensworth from Cheshire England. I would like to repatriate that fine automobile back to England where it will be well taken care of. Please do not remove anything from the vehicle including that lovely magazine on the door. Here at Coventry we refer to that as a "Jag Mag"
David James are you serious? Or joking? I can't tell
Please do save it +DavidJames !!!!!
He has to be joking. Here in Continental Europe, old Jags have the same status as old Caddy's in the US. They're junk, riddled with flaws, overly complex, and not worth the money of repair and restoration. The 1986> XJ40 was a much better car than the classic XJ shown here, but it has no classic status yet, and parts are expensive. They often get scrapped, and lower classes (i.e. dumb hicks) use them for banger racing
That's a dvd not a magazine
DolleHengst exuse me my parents have a caddy and it is the best car the ever had
my neighbor has one, it just sat under the car port its entire life, as a kid i use to go over my neighbors house to deliver avon books for my mom and the car had cobwebs everywhere, they never drove it, i do believe it still sits there to this day, the guy who owned it is now in the nursing home, his wife still lives in the house where the car sits, probably has less than 20,000 miles on it
Thats crazy. Ive got many a story of the same sad fate for many cool old cars. Sometimes they dont all get a happy ending.
trigga ville Same here. There used to be a 85 Cj Jeep by my house for as long as I lived. I was going to muster up the money, and when I rode over to go offer her something for it, I saw the poor girl being hauled off to the scrap yard. they gave them $200 for it. I would have given them probably triple that
that sucks
trigga ville that really sucks!
so sad a car like this needs to be driven it had to of broke down with something silly which the owner could not afford to fix or ill health
My dads friend used to collect that model jaguar. He once said if you found a 30 year old jag with 20k miles on the odometer don't buy it. It spent most of its life in the shop. If you found one with about 100k like that one, get it. That one lasted.
That hood ornament is prob worth what you paid for the car!
Crazy to think that at one time this thing was brand new and SUPER expensive! 💵💰 would be sooo cool to know history's of scrapped old luxury cars
It's a status symbol in that someone can afford to maintain one of these... Thanks for the video, cheers!
3:35 Whoa!!! 😮 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Even it’s seen better days... Still a neat Jaguar. You gotta admire the vehicles that paved the way. A true classic 🐆
Last of the true jags I wish I could have saved this one
That car when it first came out was so revolutionary that people who were old enough to be into cars always remember where they were when they set eyes on it , you would not think so today but the wide tires the huge glass area and smooth styling was stunning in its day , the German cars just looked like fridges on wheels in comparison .
A beautiful looking car. Edward Woodwood must be missing his Jaguar…
That doesn't need to be parted out, that needs to be restored. Just replace the fuel pumps and get that back on the road.
That's a pretty Jag. I used to have a black 82 I sold it to a coworker that is going to restore it . The one I had has 180,000 miles plus probably closer to 200,000 miles now and as far as reliably goes had no issues just Oil changes. My friend had 4 before he died again no issues. Best luxury brand you can buy
Nice I'm buying a 1990 xj6. Very clean only needed a power steering line. From what I heard those engines are pretty bulletproof but the electronics are probably toast.
Very nice! Thanks for appreciating this Jaguar - I'm hoping it will find a good home with a collector or Jaguar enthusiast. My dad had one back in the 1950's and I've always had a place in my heart for Jaguars.
I have the same model and year in Australia for 13 years now and its still a pleasure to drive, it doesn't blow smoke or use oil and heaps of power for a classic car. Fuel pumps not that expensive on ebay, would make a good cruiser for somebody who loves cars, you would be amazed the way that would handle on the road
You could get luxury in anything. This here is Opulence. Pure and simple!
This would make for a mighty sick stance build.
I've had fifty something cars and even some I've own twice. I love cars. If I would have known what they would of been worth now I would be rich. My favorite are the big cars, feel safer in them. I love your videos keep them coming. thumb up!
id find a person to buy it either here in the US or someone from England to restore it it don't need to be parted out
4:18 British layland keys where jags were built in Coventry Birmingham UK
nice specimen there Jay. Looks like the owner had a pet in the back and it ripped up/chewed the seats. For some reason I remember those old Jags electronics were nightmares. Lucas Electronics made them, and I believe some of the English refer to that company as the "prince of darkness"
Haha, that sounds like a fitting name. It needs lots of love, but Im sure it could be fixed... or... converted to run a SBC
It was Lord Lucas PRINCE OF DARKNESS!
Joe Lucas, the inventor of the intermittent headlights
i think the key/latch system on that truck was designed in such a way that you could latch the trunk without locking it, it seems that way you could open it without the key.
Wow. That car is spectacular. Some people "truely" have more dollars than cents and don't know the value of a dollar.
You could get it, and do what you are saying. Sell the parts. Your yard is huge, so its not like its taking up a lot of space, the parts are in demand, and you can just post what ever you can take off in good shape on CL or ebay. You will get your money back and then some in no time. You have such great access to so many cars that are just over the edge of coming back, so they are parts cars. Its a shame to have them go to waist.
I know I know.. But its a time consuming process. And believe it or not ive been trying to clean out my yard so I can focus on other projects lol. Ill see what I can do thou. if the price is right
Aspra
There is a reason Ford and now the India folks can't do much for Jaguar-Land-Rover...the vehicles are garbage in terms of build-quality,reliability/durability...and I'm sure the UK folks have one lame excuse or another why they build really bad vehicles. The Minis, Hondas, Nissans, Toyota(s), etc. assembled-built in the UK today are garbage too....down there with the Russian and Chinese cars.
Jay...nothing new about Air flow Meters and (EFI)Sequential Fuel-Injection back in 1980s, Japanese were already in that game in the 1970s....but with reliability-durability.
Your talking total bollocks
D McNamara British built foreign branded cars aren’t badly made. You’re talking a load of nonsense.
I almost picked up a 89, but the seller took too long to get back to me and I bought a truck instead lol the interior was in perfect shape!!
I'm NOT a Jaguar fan. But anything with a straight body, no serious rust, with working motor and transmission, that is 30+ years old, deserves to be restored. This specimen does have a peculiar aspect to it though. It's common for old cars to have the driver's seat all ripped up, but with the front passenger seat, and especially the back seat still in decent shape (or better). This is the first car that I have seen with a decent driver's seat, but with the front passenger seat, and especially the back seat, all ripped up.
I just discovered your channel today. I liked, subbed, and belled. My only critique is you ought to start up those that can start, and drive those that can drive, even if albeit only around the scrap yard. Keep 'em coming!
Jaguar's from that era were over engineered, beautiful vehicles when they were running well, but had a lot of reliability issues. It was also common here in Australia, to replace the Jag motor with a Chevy V8.
Fuel pump it just has one there in the trunk very easy to replace
A Jag!!!! Old Jag for that, too! See, you find so many stories at a junkyard, man!
when you where pushing buttons on the dashboard there is a fuel switch, there are two filler caps because there are two fuel tanks, that switch flicks between those tanks but each tank has it's own fuel pump, you could hook it up and have a play!?
Real Trucker it is like a pickup truck with dual tanks? Thanks for the info,!
Wow that car is gorgeous but she will need some work for sure. Love old luxury cars but it'll definitely need someone with some money for OEM parts.
My Grampa al has one exactly the same sitting in a garage since the late 90's if you still have it that wood trim would be great to put in it
Good content. Im happy I stumbled onto your channel
Always found in interesting how expensive luxury cars interiors would just fall apart but a cheap cars interior would hold up
Save it
Great video buddie. I'm from the UK and I can tell you your absolutely correct in saying this car would be good for parts That little Jaguar figure on the front you was messing with can easily fetch £30 /$50 here in the UK and as for the 5 wheels £150/$250 all day long. Im not sure of the demand for Jag parts in the US but over here I can see at least £2000/$3500 worth of parts and that's without including the gear box and engine.and your right about it being a lovely car in its day just a shame it was not the most reliable of cars and and parts were as expensive as fuck. Anyway love watching your vids dude keep up the good work 😋😋
3:38 wop
beefyisrare 😂😂😂😂😂
a friend of mine has a 76 same model, he is working on it, really good shape, but they are hard to work on, but as you said, lots of good parts )
Well if he ever needs parts lol. But yea its a little too over engineered for my wallet to fix
Love Jaguars but man they a chore to keep running. Patience and love keep a Jaguar going.
Trimuph sports cars were built in Coventry also. All part of the Leyland family (British Leyland) . Wish you were near KS. I would jump on it!
We still have this car!
You know a car is juicy on petrol when there are two buttons on the dash to choose what fuel tank you want to use
You're right! Jag owner of 33 years-take relay switch that controls the automatic air condition system can't find it worth a lot of money, top and bottom holes for the steering fluid can't find them and lots more, where is the car is there a number I can call you?
*that Jaguar is one of the ones people used to do the Chevy 350 engine swap in all the time. there's an adapter for the transmission you can get and the seats you can buy new leather covers for cheap too. the reason people usually just scrapped them is that the engines would go. Well hell if the fuel pumps are bad you can rebuild those! they have a kit for them Hell if that's a 258 straight 6 it kind of makes me wonder why people weren't putting in motors out of Jeeps and AMC cars they made a 258 also but i'm sure it had more torque than the Jag motor did if all that's wrong with that one is the fuel pumps, it would be worth the money to rebuild the pumps hell if nothing else, you can get electric fuel pump for it cheap and be good to go again*
he may be able to fix that one up like it is still too though there are parts a plenty for this one but yeah the 350 is the way people usually go with the older ones and would certainly work for this one too if you chose to go that route
friend had one with a 350 couldnt beleive til i saw it .
ever see El Caminos in the yard? i drive an '85 and it sat most of its life and i hear stories of them going in the crusher. it's sad.
Great find most of the parts are still there
You are getting to be a high end automobile scrap yard:)! This Jaguar and the Vanden Plas. Then the Saab 900. As Archie Luxury says on his channel "It's not affordable luxury it is expensive poverty"!
my dad had one of those , bought new in British racing green , great car , he had it for almost ten years , he regretted trading on a BMW 735i he told me .
3:37 well we know what he's gonna be doing after work xD
The vent above the head lights may be for fresh air for the cabin.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure Hampton Jaguar is a dealer in Hampton, va. I live near there!
With that at 3:36 and the back seats situation. I wonder how many lizards been in that jag?
I kind of miss those reverse opening hoods that latch near the cowl.
They have these things for sale near me for $600~ in OK condition besides rocker panel rust thanks to Wisconsin.
They're nice cars when the electrics work!
Thanks for the video man, what a shame I love that car.
It does need to be saved for sure.
I was going to say drop a small block in it .and that would be a great running rod....
Put a small block in it. Drive line from an explorer works well.
Nice car.. great video of it... Keep up the good work.. greetings from Cruisewolf in Norway :)
Damm. I'd definitely restore that
Yes they are still manufactured in england :-) that car would be worth a bit if you tidy it up a little and give it a chance !!
Door panels look mint
I am so pleased that this old beauty is not going to be stripped and dismantled. Someone somewhere could restore this classic to pristine condition, and I must say, looking at the condition, a true enthusiast would be able to do a lot of the work himself, rather than paying thousands of dollars. What a wonderful opportunity for a restoration project. Please keep us informed about what happens to this wonderful car.
I like it! Just has a cool look to it 👀 I'd save it.. dang it now I kinda want one again. I looked at them a few years ago, but I still only collect Lincoln for now .
I feel like it wouldnt be easy to work on, or cheap to keep on the road. Older lincolns interchange ford parts. So mechanically they are simple enough. But this old girl, while neat to look at , wouldnt probably be a money pit
True, but even my 66 Continental isn't cheap for parts.. it has a two year motor 66-67 had the 462 7.6 L Have you ever seen a crankshaft mounted power steering pump?? it bolts to the front cover.. it's not all that cheap for a pump just the core is 200$ lol
Part out it! Those door panels are clean!
Nice series 3 jaguar, Euro cars are the best. Probably would've snapped this one up if I lived near you.
Id ship it if it werent so expensive. By the time it got to you with a bill it probably wouldnt be worth it
Its sad it ended up here. The parts are expensive to fix it so i hope it could be saved
I’m sorry Jay, I love your videos but....ha, Jay’s reaction to the door pocket, man I love your videos
Yeah I had a customer who had one of these, needed new ball joints which can not be pressed out so you have to replace the whole lower control arm at 1100 a piece it needed 2 so that would be 2200 and the car had a Kbb of 3500 along with other things that needed to be fixed would of totaled way over the value
Their unreliability was a genuine shame, because it was a world-class car in every other respect. I was sad to see the Coventry leather seats ripped to shreds, but I'm not surprised that the engine is still good---the Jag six cylinder was very well built. Oh, and your reaction to the Playboy video in the door pocket was priceless LOL
Well last time I was caught off guard I showed too much of that lol. I wasnt about to blast that again lol. Between porn collections and other "items" youd think people would be embarrassed to scrap a car knowing we will find that stuff.
I bet they were looking for that video later on that night lol
oh god XD
great video, sad day for that car tho.. that magazine,,lol, I bet you could not end this video fast enough to get back at it..
The downfall of many of these cars, was simple lack of maintenance, and mechanics/owners cutting corners. They were very well built, and not at all hard to service, considering you take the time to learn.
Parts are a fortune
@@peter455sd Not if you shop around.
I know of a house near me with a bunch of old jaguars sitting in the driveway.
The parts would fetch a small fortune in the UK, the bumpers would be around £150 each and the wheels a lot of money.
Sadly these are worth far more in parts.
Mid 80's sj6 is worth $2000. In excellent running condition. Most people that own jags, don't buy used parts
I'm no Jag expert but I do own a 1982 XJS. I turn wrenches for a living (on helicopters), and do all my own car stuff at home. I can tell you this car isn't like anything you are familiar with. I would suggest getting this car up in the air and looking under it for rust. These cars rot badly but If it's solid I'd try to sell it complete. I know you are a business man and if someone needs a grill, tail lights, or instrument panel it's gonna go but these cars do have a following and a relatively rust free example would make a tidy profit if you can connect with the right buyer. The interest would come from the fact That it is so complete, little things like knobs and trim pieces can be very hard to find. Heck, I see a couple hundred bucks worth of stuff I could use but I suspect you are too far away to make the trip from south Alabama. On a side note, I saw a beautiful one of these cars just yesterday in a restaurant parking lot. Same green paint/tan interior but it was a two door convertible. Old couple driving with top down. Ahh, the elegance.
I forgot why I was posting in the first place...lol. I was going to say as a plan, first I'd advertise it in a jag specific forum or two, there are a bunch. Maybe even put a fuel pump in it so it's a runner. The $$ return on that would easily be worth the time. Second I'd park it out of the way and sell parts off it, and only as a distant third would I scrap it.
Jags used to come with a TH-400 trans, that may have one.
You have $6-7K (at least) in parts in that car, with the straight body panels.
As a true Brit this is heartbreaking to me these are beautiful cars.
awesome car jay ive owed one of these here in uk i loved it.
Its certainly and eye catcher, for me anyway
The front and rear ends of these old XJs are worth quite a bit. Engines and gearboxes can be worth money if they're good. They're lovely cars to drive, it's very sad to see it in such a state.
Its a shame indeed. its still here though. Theres still time for someone to save it
Jay Smart Hopefully someone does, there's less and less of these old Jags around
If there were no electric gremlins lurking in this car or no serious mechanical issues, this car might be worth saving.
means one of two things,
1/ it rusted but you can't see were it is as its chasis or hidden until you see under it
2/ the eletrics/engine have gone wrong a sadly common fault wih more pre 00's jags,
@sirmugman you forgot one... Your ex-wife one this car in the divorce and wants to see your pain as your beautiful precious car gets crushed
There is probably a collector out there that would scoop that up in a heartbeat. This also reminds me of that 944. Has that thing met its demise? That thing was so rough
I STILL HAVE THE 944!!! Im just hoarding it for a rainy day. I still have faith i can get it to pop off one day .
I've seen them time to time on CL for under $1,000, usually around $600.00. Saw one for free, no title, and had a v12. There was a time the were worth something, perhaps like you said "over engineered"might have had a lot to do with it. I had a range rover, and being a classic, parts were actually worth their weight in gold. Just try and get the little stuff like seat controls. It wasn't that they were worth that much, the prices were gouged simply because of the name.
it would be nice to hear it run jay..
Maybe If I can rig up some sort of temporary fuel cell. Ill see what I can do on my next available free day!
Screw the f-pumps! Rip that 6 out a put a small block chev!!! Not 2 mention if im not mistaken. They came wit Turbo 350 chevy transmissions!!!! I no 4 a fact that 80s BMWs did ...So needless 2 say,it would bolt right up. Along wit no d-shaft/rear end issues! Almost like it was meant 2b!!!!!
Very sad to see ... these are very common in the UK ... but someone should still buy and do something with it` race it or keep it as a static model just for the history it holds, as the years pass by these will be a real collectors items and in the States they should be fairly rare too. They are very popular as Bangers because they are fast and they are built like a tank.
Nearly cried watching this
I'm sure someone would probably restore it unless there's a whole lot of rust under the car do a lil cleaning uppers the interior the engine bay and boom you've got yourself a good looking jag you could either drive or keep upgrading it to get it reliable
I know I am replying to my own message but yea dude that would a awesome car to restore the trunk is in perfect condition I would love to own this car and restore it and drive it ever now and again
i love the paint color
its very popular to drop a 350 chevy v-8 in one of these
I know it's unreliable but it's a classic if the frame is good it's worth saving if not it's parts are in demand it's worth parting to save other jags
Jay I had a jaguar and it didn't cost any more to fix it then if you had a Chevy I was very surprised at that but it was more reliable than a Chevy
hell I'll come down with my trailer. If it's got a clear title. lol order me a aftermarket inline pump and regulator. :) Should be a Bosh Jetronic fuel injection. My Datsun 280zx's ran Bosh. Not really advanced in 86. My 79 had the bosh direct injection. Mechanically speaking they were extremely reliable. Jags problems we're more "body" electrical issues. But in turn it was said a computer chip in 79 was like 5/6 grand per mega byte or something like that. so yeah that's why a lot of fancy computery 80s cars were so $$$$.
correction not sure if it was considered "Direct" or "mutiport" injection. Injectors are in the individual intake runners vs .......
oh if it's external mounted pump like my Datsun smack it with a wrench a few times. or it could also be a shorted wire to the pump. other issue on that Porsche and other bosh style injection. The mass air sensor is 95% in control. basically a over engineered dimmer switch for the fuel air. If it goes you will be no start. Will not start disconnected from intake. Needs exactly 12v. lol Thought I blew my engine only to find I had a weak battery . got 12 air sensors in my garage not exactly easy to find plus if dropped or shot full of cleaners it's done. 80% sure that 928 or 944 probs has same Dam system as the Jag And my Z
if this fine car come to my country of Trinidad AND Tobago the price here will be absolutely Crazy at least over 70,000 bucks
Sad to see. Hope it is saved. How does one go about saving a car from this junkyard?
Well, in my case since Im the first one to lay eyes on them. I have "first call" I can buy it after its finished its claim days. All cars must wait 3 days before we can do anything to them. Sell them, strip them, remove parts etc. 3 days i have to wait. Once thats up, I can purchased the car for a couple hundred bucks above scrap value. (this jaguar paid out around 230$ ) so about 450$ and it could be mine or so. And then you get the title and keys and your on your way! I could probably contact a shipper, and have the car shipped to you (within the continental united states) I wouldnt know how about getting it over seas. But its really simple for in state sales. Someone walks in, sees the car, looks over the car, makes an offer and buys it. Either it drives out under its own power, or you tow it. Anyone can purchase a car. You hand us cash, and its over. All the cars until the day of crushing have a clean reinstate able title. So any car can be put back on the road. Until its crushed. Then the Paperwork is Forwarded to the DMV along with the title, and the car is marked as "disposed of" and that vin number can not be used anymore.
Jay Smart I'm not really interested in buying but good to know for future reference and for anyone else wondering. Hope it finds a good home. Also you should do a video of all the cars you own currently. I probably don't even know half of them. Would be interesting
How's the leaping growler?
Ooh beautiful car
Jay, you may as well scrap it, but please take it apart bit by bit and store all the good bits carefully. Those early style alloys are worth a fortune they are so rare. interior switches etc are gold dust. Please just carefully break it, label and store ALL the good components. Trust me from the UK,,jag man all my life. It's things like a simple ashtray will feed you for a week!!!
Ill keep all of this in mind as it gets closer to the final days for the car. We can only hold them for so long before they must be destroyed .
Strip it. And store the bits well. Trust me mate. Nick from UK.
