I knew Keith when he was just 17 and I was 15- we dated and I just don't remember him being mean to me. Guess he hadn't got to that point yet. But then again, when we randomly ran into each other again 25 years later in a dive bar on Queen Street, he still wasn't mean to me. I just miss him and his talent
@Deborah Summers... Thank you for sharing that tender bit of info. Personally, I don't believe that Keith was any meaner than anyone of us here, can be. The guy wasn't an animal, not sure why he gets painted so negatively. Then again, I never knew him, as you did (I was born decades too late). All I knew/know is the music, his talent, and THAT voice! And fcuk, what a GREAT one it was, too!! Too bad there's just SO very little of Keith Whittaker around today. Aarrrgh! Fcukin' damn cancer. Everywhere I look, everywhere I turn, it's carrying away with it, someone new. I don't even know which cancer took his life, back in July of 1996 anyone who knows, please, jump in here and share (CJ O'Connor... you in here somewhere?) Anything at all? Something? Anyone? Please?. All I can say is, thank heaven Keith made that one solo album/CD, "Drink to Me", before leaving us. As far as I'm concerned, it's Keith at his finest, best. That album showcases SO many, many sides of Keith, his personality. If only someone with the right chops and a very BIG heart, could/would write a book on this much loved guy from Manchester, England OR, better yet, string together a documentary film about The Demics' frontman Keith Whittaker. But that'll take a lot of love, to achieve accomplish that one. Until then, I'm going to keep spreading the word about that FANTASTIC solo album, to all the music lovers I meet. And perhaps sometime, somewhere, someday, someone, WILL have written a book or made a film. Hey, girl's gotta have her dreams... no matter how far fetched and expensive. Thanks again DS & KW. : )
@@taciaamostis6473 What is the name of Keith's solo LP? I loved the Demics for decades and had no idea Keith had a solo LP I had one particular friend who would visit, we would do LSD and other things, she loved The Demics and would constantly request NY Ciry over and over again. She never got sick of it. PITA is those were vinyl days and stereo was in another room, and it was a PITA always having to get up and re spin it in another room No cd/digital playlists back then lol
I'm from London, Ont. and I love(d) the Demics. I never knew Keith personally. However I went to school with Keith's brother Kevin (hi :-) and it was obvious that he had some issues and I don't doubt that Keith had them as well. Be it coming from whatever their situation was in UK was or their family or whatever but they were more than us nice suburban Canadian folks could handle. They were (to put is mildly) disturbing. Towards the end of the 70s that fit in well with the explosition that was the scene at the Blue Boot et al. So my point was ..... ?
the Demics were a GREAT Band and I am glad to have seen them and graced a stage with them.
nice to know your still with it Mickey... Tony Brighton...
Keef was a noble Whittaker ... always true of heart... Tony Brighton...
Met Frank decades later...run down but sweet soul.
