In the US back in the 1980s, Ping ran a promotion with junior golf lessons and you would get to pick out a new color of the Ping balls at the lesson each week. They were definitely a highlight of the lessons and I've still got quite a few from that collection today. Those were the original Ping Eye which had a more primitive dimple pattern than the Eye 2 . I remember them having that incredibly soft feel, probably an 80 compression or so and even played them in a few junior golf tournaments. Many courses had them printed with their course logo but they disappeared pretty quickly after a few years of popularity. It seemed like there was a significant gap, maybe 5-7 years before the Eye 2 version popped up which was a thrill to see as a kid but they disappeared quickly as well. I do remember the issues with both tracking them in the air and finding them in the rough. The original yellow/orange combo was probably the easiest to spot.

Best chop in half yet! Although the one with liquid inside was also pretty awesome

I remember these and wish they would bring them back. I'd be a buyer. On another note my mother-in-law gave me black golf balls years ago and to my surprise they were without a doubt the easiest ball to see in flight out of any ball I've ever hit.

Srixon released their Q-Star tour divide ball, seems to be a pretty good iteration of the idea

I started using these type of "divide" balls in yellow/red and they stick out like a sore thumb on the course. Plus lining up the line on the green makes for a better putting shot.

If you like the two tone look, try the srixon q star tour devide. I got a fue dozen of them and I can't get enough of them. Great for line up of puts and seeing how much spin is on it

Loved that Rick! Hilarious ball cutting and I remember fondly playing Crail around 1995 using a blue and yellow one!!

I am old enough to remember golf balls with wound elastic around a rubbery core with paint inside. We used to love slicing up old "tatties" (balls too cut up to be usable) and watching the elastic fly as it released.

I still have some around! Never played them on the course though, only on a putting green. Yes, most precious!

You should test out the Srixon Q-Star Tour DIVIDE ball! It's matte but it looks like those Ping balls because of the two color halves. I just got some myself, and I haven't played a round with them yet.

I used to have a Black and Yellow one years ago. I used it for practice to see how the spin would be affected with different shots.

I’m a new golfer, Started around 12 months ago and I just can’t hit coloured balls good. Don’t know why or if it’s all in the mind but I also seem to only be confident with srixon balls.

I use a couple of these for my putting practice, picked them up in a creek as a kid in the late 90’s... I’ve been asked on so many occasions how someone could get hold of them.
