    Cars that I have actually owned that no longer exist...I miss most of them. Buick Skyhawk. Buick Electra 225. Hyundai XG 300. Ford Tunderbird. 1990 Cadillac Coupe deVille. Ford Focus...I've had others too, but they still make them so I won't name them here. There are a lot of cars that I didn't own that they no longer make and a lot of them on your this list. This was a fun video. Definitely a Thumbs UP!

    Old car commercials were so much better. I feel absolutely NOTHING for modern commercials, but show me a 80's 90's maybe early 00's commercial and i'll stop and watch it. The way they were shot, presented and made was superior. Nowadays, in the fine tradition of faking everything for TV, some of them aren't even filmed with the actual car anymore. They use a chassis type vehicle, with camera points for a computer program to then superimpose a 3D rendering to make it look "perfect".

    A vehicle that you don’t really see all too often anymore is the Ford Ranchero. The Ranchero came before the Durango, if I’m not mistaken. Another vehicle I have in mind is the GMC Sprint. Much like an El Camino, the GMC Sprint is a car/truck hybrid.

    My wife and I have a 93 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 auto. We love the ‘world’s biggest go cart’. The car she named Frank always puts a smile on at least one face and I can’t tell you the number of people who see it and know that they know what kind of car it is but they just can’t place it.

    Anything made by Plymouth, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Packard, Nash, Hudson, Studabaker, Mercury, and Kaiser. These car brands are gone. Soon the Chrysler and Dodge brands are going to join them if they don't turn them around. Toyota discontinued it's Scion brand too. We also have the cars once made by AMC that are all gone too. AMC also had Rambler in the late 1950's and early 1960's. 9:34

    I’m the proud owner of an almost extinct, 1 year production car. It is a 1988, Chevy spectrum sport, a nicer version of an Isuzu I-Mark. I have 117k on it now.
    The extinction event is that to change the timing belt, the engine needs to be removed. So at 60k, reasonable. At 120k, maybe. At 160k, no way!!! I squeezed out 80k on the original timing belt, so I’m good to 140k. It is still a long distance driver for me. We’ll see about the next timing belt change.

    • @theprinceofsnj
      @theprinceofsnj 6 месяцев назад

      @@ThisOldCarChannelIn all honesty they were fun little cars. I started with a used 1980 Chevette Scooter 2 door. Scooter was a sub base model. 1.6L 4, 4-speed manual, And the optional rear seat. I had it about a month. Traded it in on a 1984 base 2 door. It too was a 1.6 4-speed Then in 1987 I traded up to a CS 1.6 Automatic and power steering. They were fun to drive. They did have their gurps. The steering wheels were on a slight angle. The 4 speeds were not synchronized between second and third. Hard to shift in cold weather. And the clutches were cable. I remember one winter we had a major snow storm. I was putting along. And I passed several 4X4's off on the side of the road, stuck.

    I've had PLENTY of GM cars, and since my first, '65 Chevy impala, then after that, a '66, which was a front end NIGHTMARE (ball joint replacement damn near every weekend), I've come to appreciate vehicles with a SOLID front end! The MOST reliable GM's I've ever owned, we're Pontiac, I've owned a Bonneville and a Catalina, both '68, and a Buick La Sabre, '72. These rolling aircraft carriers NEVER gave me ANY problems, took me EVERYWHERE I wanted to go, and the most I did to them was a water pump replacement, routine, and EASY-PEASEY! I've owned 3 Fords, '65 Galaxy XL, 289 CID, C6 trans, '71 LTD Tudor coupe, 400 CID, and a '77 Maverick 302 CID, I LOVED those cars. Imho, full-size Fords had a better ride than GM because they had longer and beefier coil springs! I have a Lexus ES300 now, but I MISS those cars SO MUCH! 😢

    A 1977 Ford LTD four-door base model. It's what I have. I can't afford a 1970 mustang Mach 1, but with the LTD I did upgrade the standard AM radio and added an air conditioning to it. It's sad that they don't make nice things anymore be at cars or anything else. I don't understand why, and I don't understand why most people accept it. They have uglified and shitified the world. And yet people keep buying these new modern crap cars. Not me.

    I had a 93 LeBaron. It’s the reason I’ve never had interest in any Chrysler since. The only thing the 3.0 Mitsubishi V6 did consistently was burn oil and provide disappointing fuel mileage. I remember one time I had pulled over on the side of the road to add oil. It took my last two quarts. I was frustrated and threw the empty bottles in the truck and slammed the lid down and the taillight house just shattered. 😂😂😂😂 Worst car I have ever owned.

    All cars are intriguing. Cars of the past 40 years are not built to last as classics though as transport they do last longer than ever. But restoring these cars is not, so far, a very doable consideration. However, things change and one day modern cars may become nostalgia projects or just plain desirable. Per the LeBaron it had its moment. Which is no more. But'd be nice to see a cherry example of today

    This video is a bit narrow in its focus. What I find shocking, even though it has been years, is that there are no Oldsmobiles or Pontiacs produced today. These were prominent brands. Over 1 million Oldsmobiles per model year were sold in the late 70s through the mid 80s. Both of them at different points in time were the #3 selling brands. Obviously Plymouth (at one point the #3 selling brand) and Mercury are gone, too. Buick is still around but only makes SUVs, no cars. Even Ford does not offer any cars other than the Mustang. At least I cannot think of any, though there were plenty of Ford cars sold even just a few years ago. I thought the Japanese brands would join us and there would just be fewer American cars. I didn't think the Japanese would completely take over and there would be no American cars at all to choose from for a new car buyer. For years, GM brands made up about 50% of the American car market. That it could change so drastically is almost bizarre. But the U.S. government's fuel economy standards (CAFE) and forcing the Big 3 to change their entire product lines while the Japanese car companies didn't need to make any changes at all certainly had a lot to do with it.
