    LG knew about this issue on all their LG OLEDs. They haven't solved it for their own reasons. They weren't particularly motivated to do so. I see it on my C6 (posterization in near black, bit starved content and quick changes in localized brightness.
    Vincent, stick to your current format and style. We have enough reviewers that pander for access. We don't need any more than we have.
    Would having more RUclips subscribers aid in you providing objective reviews. Patreon may yield better results with a larger subscription base. Maybe if you expanded your subject matter discussions to more home theater subjects (audio and video) and reviewed more tech related subjects, you could pull in more eyes. Maybe it's just taking time for you to build your audience to the size it needs to be for success. I've seen other channels that take a critical view of products take time to gain traction and become self-supporting.
    What you need are more views. The content is deserving of such. Since I'm not a RUclipsr, I wouldn't know how to grow your channel but others who are and were able to expand the viewership may have good ideas.

    First let me say this video saved me from so much confusion and I was ready to trade out my sony A8F after reading about this issue and thinking I saw it in the Last kingdom on my A8F .Your actual showing of the flashing problem made me realize I did not see it on my A8F and my tv will stay with me. Companies should be proud to have you pointing out these issues because they are real and need to be addressed. Thank you for what you are doing and especially in this video where you calmed the panic that began on Christmas Day when the Forbes article on this issue showed up on the internet.

    • @ilusiil
      @ilusiil 5 лет назад +3

      So let me get this straight: You were about to get rid of your TV because you imagined that you saw an issue that didn't even exist? LMAO! That's pretty hilarious.
      Vincent should do more videos on the Sony A8F, otherwise you won't have a clue as to what's going on with your own TV.

      If you read the Forbes article you would understand. It was stated the issue was also reported in Sony Oleds and the example that I had to look at was the Netflix Last Kingdom example. Describing the problem is vague compared to actually seeing it in slow motion.

    • @ilusiil
      @ilusiil 5 лет назад +6

      matt giunta So you trust Forbes more than you trust your own eyes? Forbes says that your TV has an issue, you can’t see it with your own eyes yet you’re ready to get rid of your TV. Then Vincent tells you that your TV doesn’t have this issue so now you’re cool with your TV again?
      I’m sorry, but if you can’t see this issue with your own eyes why would you get rid of your TV? And why depend on others to tell you what you’re experiencing while viewing your TV?

    • @mrpops2ko
      @mrpops2ko 5 лет назад +2

      Thats his whole point though, if the issue isn't described exactly, with good testing methodology - how can he verify if he notices it or not? [and 'just use your eyes lol' is an incredible disregard for the very limited return period] you're effectively boiling down the experience to 'do you sometimes see the screen get brighter when its dark?' and with such a vague question, the obvious answer is yes - because all displays have varied luminescence.

    Happy New Year, Vincent! I think you're one of the best TV/projector reviewers to ever come along, and I'm very grateful to you for having the integrity to tell it like it is, in spite of the ramifications that might have for your industry and professional relationships. It's tough to stand your ground in your situation and I admire you very much for having the integrity to do that. (I was a professional calibrator a few years ago and I'm aware of the very fine line you have to walk to balance objectivity with maintaining good relationships with manufacturers, suppliers, and other calibrators.) It's depressing to read reviews performed by experienced calibrators that appear in consumer electronics publications (there aren't many anymore) and know they are not telling the whole story so as not to compromise the publication's relationships with manufacturers. I feel I can never rely solely on their reviews anymore so I always look to your unbiased reviews to get complete, fact-based, and accurate analyses for consumer video products. Whatever you decide to do in the future, I'd be willing to support you (monetarily or otherwise). Thank you again, and please keep up the great work!

    So glad I found this video! We just got an LG BX as a warranty replacement for our old LG B6 (2016). I noticed this issue straight away and was sure that our old TV didn't do it. Have been arguing with LG for almost two months now and they insist it's normal for OLED TVs and that the BX is not inferior to our old TV. I was almost starting to believe them too so this video was a great sanity check for me! How have they not fixed this issue two generations later???

    I’ve just started watching your reviews Vincent, and I hope you get to keep providing honest and thorough reviews. I’m finding them extremely helpful. Manufacturers need to know that just because their products have flaws, as all products do, it doesn’t impact people like me buying them. I’ve just purchased an LG oled E8’s and plan on immersing myself thoroughly. Yes, it will have the flaws you mention, but it’s important to remember that when watching a movie, we are mostly involved with the story, and not the small flaws that might appear for a few milliseconds. Hopefully, the manufacturers realize your value in presenting honest and complete reviews, both pro and con.

      @@filipkostadinovic6119 No problem. I've had my C8 for about a month and it's been amazing. I upgraded from a mid tier RCA HD TV I got back in College and the difference has changed screens for me forever. Watching movies and playing videogames all day is the brunt of what my TV has been tasked with. Setting it up was really easy and getting it updated was seamless. I've got it hooked up through the built in ethernet port in the back of the unit but it also has wifi capability.
      The picture settings on each HDMI input have the ability to save individual profiles per port which is great for switching between consoles. Within each profile it has a preset for non HDR content that can be changed seamlessly with the remote. Definitely use the game modes when you're playing, you'll feel the difference instantly. I Haven't encountered any visual glitches or issues with mine but your mileage may vary based on what I've been seeing online.
      I've even tried hooking up older consoles through the composite video jack adapter that it comes with, the Gamecube being blown up on that screen was an interesting experience haha. I highly recommend the C8, 4K HDR Blu-Ray movies look incredible and the infinite black levels really do make a massive difference. Watch one of the Netflix documentaries about space and you'll swear there are real stars on your screen. The built in speakers are really great although I plan to get a surround sound system in the near future to compliment it.
      Hope this helps! Oh btw I have the 55'' model.

    Vincent, I enjoy your review and bought my C8 mostly based on your reviews. Can't speak for the others, but if this black chrominance is the worst issue on these TVs, I am happy to live with it, although a firmware fix would be fantastic. That said, if you are a honest reviewer that people trust, manufacturers should have every incentive to make you happy and as long as you are objective, the result is what consumers would truly want. This process takes a certain critical mass to gain steam, but in the meanwhile I am sure a bunch of us would be happy to let you test on our TVs for one. It might be tricky to do comparisons but patron account can perhaps pay for shipping to you first and then having it shipped to final destination. What do you think? But whatever you do, please don't let objectivity fritter away!

    So a company like LG thinks the buyers of their OLEDs won't see these issues themselves? At least with Vincent it gives them an opportunity to fix said issues. The alternative is to leave the issue unfixed and lose customers who potentially never buy from the brand again. I have news for ALL manufacturers, in a social media world/forums - people talk, so suck it up, fix the issues or lose customers.

    • @richaneesh
      @richaneesh 5 лет назад +4

      That's the biggest problem. These companies don't even want anyone to POINT out any issues in their products. Reason being they don't want to go back to their R&D and testing labs to find cause and solution because that will cost them money at that stage and also a whole lot more at the stage of implementing solutions. They want the consumers to just accept the issues as 'norms' and 'standard features' and when reviewers like Vincent point it out, it becomes trouble for these companies. They are ready to take the consumers' hard earned money, but they don't want to be held accountable and responsible for it. There is need of Global Consumer Rights laws with stricter norms.

You have given many reasons to buy ever set I've seen you review, is any set perfect no.. if it was there wouldn't be any need for continually firmware updates or new models they would stop at perfection. Consumers realize there are pros & cons to every purchase not just tvs and the manufactures should embrace your review style because if someone wants to buy then watching your reviews gives them the reason to pull the trigger. Vincent , and more importantly TV manufacturers. This channel has enabled myself and friends that watch your content to buy with complete confidence. Knowing what you’re getting into with no surprises it a wonderful situation to be in. I’d like to think that manufactures would hold your content in high regard. Considering most of the top brands offer a slightly different selection of Products. And knowing the nuances enables people to be truly happy with the selection. I.e. I picked up a particular brand as I believed it was better for my needs ware as my friends selected Something completely different , both based on your reviews. It may be worth you creating a small questionnaire and asking people who have benefited and gone on to purchase a televisions through watching your videos to fill this out . this would hopefully show a balanced selection and prove to manufacturers that there is no bias but rather a lot of happily informed people making informed purchases. I think your channel is unique in giving those who are very interested in the technology of these new sets the benefit of your knowledge. Keep up the great work . People follow you and respect your thorough analysis and opinions for a reason. You're a trustworthy source and you get to the heart of the matter, and you champion a cause for people when issues inevitably occur. It's up to the manufacturers to own those issues, and having someone as well respected as yourself to champion those issues is a real boon to us little people.
    Please retain your values, don't sell out like so many obviously have. Journalistic integrity counts for a lot. What we need is for manufacturers to take you more seriously, and for other journalists be less easily won over and/or sweet-talked into papering over certain negatives. Or in other words, you're setting a much higher standard and everybody else needs to lift their game!
    If you're getting shut out by any manufacturers in particular, perhaps consider naming and shaming! Risky? probably.. but you'll have our support - and maybe that's enough!

And if they don't think their products are up to being reviewed by you, that's a bad sign to us. Obviously only a few people feel that way vs their customer base, but it's a growing number, and the people who watch your videos are also the types of people advising others what to buy. Also, companies should now that what matters more is that they FIX problems, not whether problems exist; they always exist. I bought an LG OLED after watching your video about a problem with it, because you said LG had acknowledged the issue (a good sign in itself) and were working on a fix, and I could see they had fixed issues in the past. Sure enough, they fixed it, and I'm happy. Good companies should want to work with you to help get problems solved, as a reliable interface to the community, who can collate and verify issues coming from their end users. They should be paying you for that really!

    Pointing issues out in a professional and reproducible manner is the BEST way to get those fixed.
    No matter what, every piece of software and hardware is affected by issues. Hopefully most of those are not hardware wrong design and can be fixed through software and firmware update.
    Sony, LG, Panasonic and all the other manufacturers out there should give you free samples. Improving their products and showing the brand transparency that allows you to perform the validation and the report will only improve the product quality and the brand customer confidence!

    Ni hao Vincent. As a professional photographer I regard your work as the pinnacle of professional calibration. In reply to your question on the future of your reviews and cross comparisons of new visual wizardry, my reply is this. Stay firm to your chosen path and portray the reality of the visual display medium with pride. Social compliance is a dangerous master. The world has quiet enough puppets. A strong statement I know. You are a perfectionist that displays passion and morality at the forefront of your work. Do not let the underhand and insecure attitude of the muppets from marketing, degrade your core values. Take pride in this: When international companies hide from you, play their games, and resist critic, then the closer you are to the truth, the truth that the public yearns for. You are our eyes and ears, you unravel the discombobulating marketing hype. Vincent, your honesty is a vastly undervalued commodity in our society. It is the language of the almost extinct, lone wolf.

    Vincent, I've never commented on a youtube channel but after watching your video I'd like you to know I watch all your content because it's very interesting, knowledgeable, honest and funny. I'll admit, I'm on my lunch break here at work and I LMFAO when "Sally" said to go f*** yourself. My coworkers just gave me weird look. Anyway, I'm not too familiar with how youtube commissions work, but perhaps allowing a couple of ads to play during your content may help you financially, especially as your channel grows? If I have to sit through a few ads to support your channel then I'm all for it. I wish I had a better solution for you man but just know I appreciate your honest reviews and look forward to more of them in the future.

    Thanks for the excellent video. It's especially great how you have managed to capture the video and show this flashing problem side-by-side. I loved my C8, 4K HDR Blu-rays were incredible, though by day 9 of ownership is when this flashing issue became apparent in SDR content. As I was in the return window I just decided it best to do so, and get my money back. What would you recommend, Vincent? I ultimately narrowed my choice down to the C8 and FZ802 due to gaming input lag, and leaned towards LG due to 4x FB HDMIs and Dolby Vision. Would you recommend the FZ802 still, is it best to wait a bit longer and see if LG can address this flashing issue?

    i would really appreciate a in depth comparison between the af8 and the lg c8 i got the af8 i am happy with it but i constantly worry that i would have gotten a better picture with the c8 due to the dim issue everyone mentions, one thing i can say is that my sony xperia xz1 has more vibrant colors than my sony oled, white is so much better on my xz1, and i have my xz1 set to super vivid mode with blue turned up all the way to 171, no matter how much i change settings on my sony oled i can't get as bright vibrant colors especially as bright perfect white.

      The dimming is done by Sony to make your OLED less prone to burn-in and for your display to last longer. LG's OLED, do to their brightness, seemed plagued with burn in. You notice rarely hear or read people complaining about burn-in on Sony OLED's.

    Hi Vincent, I think your reviews and tests add a lot of value. Maybe you could offer to beta test new models or make an agrement that when you find an issue you notify the manufacturer and give them the opportunity to correct the issue or respond before you put the video up. I recently brought by Q9FN back to the story because the local dimming on that TV as some flaws and the brightening of the picture when watching 4K content with subs really put me off. As a substitude I got the Sony AF9 and could not be happier with the picture quality, if only the remote was somewhat nicer...
    All in all, keep doing what you are doing and maybe involve the manufacturers in some more.

    @HDTVTest There is another issue with the TV (B8 here) where when using a networkcable you can't cast to the TV, as this only works via WiFi. Yet if you both enable cable and WiFi at the same time, the TV will disable WiFi over time to save energy. Again disabling your ability to cast to the TV.

    I really appreciate your honesty and the integrity of your review. You should not change your style just to satisfy big companies. Stay true to yourself!
    By the way, I need an opinion.
    I'm from Brazil, and I've bought a LG OLED55B7P in October, and it's working fine.
    Then, I've bought a LG OLED55B8SSC in November, but, as soon as I turned it on, I've noticed a dark spot on the screen who is only visible when it's showing grey color on the screen. It was located on the right side and on the down corner of the screen (it can be seen when I open the Amazon Prime Video app or when I'm scrolling through the RUclips app. It can't be seen when playing videos.)
    I've returned the TV to the website where I bought it and they've sent me a brand new one. But, this time, when I turned it on, I've seen 4 dark spot on the screen. They're located on the left side of the screen, on the down corner.
    When I try to record the screen to capture the issue on my smartphone, I can see the screen emiting some light flashes near these dots. I've contacted the website again and asked them to change the TV again.
    The weird thing is that I've tested this issue on the LG OLED55B7P and there's no dark spot. The B7P is perfect, the issue is only visible on the B8SSC.
    What's your opinion about this issue? Is it normal? Should I be worried about it? Should I cancel my order and get another brand? (Sony 55A8F or Samsung 55Q7F)
    Thank you so much for your review!!! Keep doing this great job!

    Hi Vincent,
    Since we’re on the topic of LG OLED’s.. With my older C6, should I choose ‘Wide’ colour gamut when on HDR10 or ‘Extended’, or just ‘Normal’?? Plus, in Dolby Vision, is it preferrable to use a colour temperature of Warm 2 or Warm 3? Thanks!
    FWIW, just continue what you do best. Get into the nittygritty when it comes to PQ. I think Crampton and Moore and others would still provide the TV’s/Projectors that most manufacturers won’t provide directly.

    • @V8RacerGT
      @V8RacerGT 5 лет назад +1

      I had a C6, choose normal, because its like auto mode, when u choose normal the tv switches automatically to the right color gamut. choose the color temperatur that u like the most, I use warm1.

    • @wxman2003
      @wxman2003 5 лет назад

      it doesn't matter. It will detect proper gamut. If you have it at normal now, leave it at that. If it is set to wide leave it at that. If you do change it while watching, you will need to stop what you are watching. Turn off player and tv, and then turn both back on. Then it will detect proper gamut again. IOW, don't mess with the color gamut.

    • @rickg8015
      @rickg8015 5 лет назад +1

      Thanks.. I just got a UHD BD Player with DV that’s why I asked.. I will stick with Normal colour gamut. I noticed that that skin tones look unnatural with Wide on HDR10.. While Warm 3 on either HDR 10 or DV looks too dark and kills any effect HDR has.. So I’m sticking with Warm 2 so it’s not too blue in hue.

    The lack of sugarcoating on your reviews is much appreciated and main reason most of us ignore the other review sites while we wait for your analysis. Them getting the early scoop on some models is worthless when we can't trust their reviews. Regarding the funding dilemma of your channel, have you considered going back to also offering a written version of all your reviews? You can add more advertisers (and affiliate links for purchase) there and written articles are also much more convenient for quickly looking up measurements compared to scouring through hours of youtube videos. Seems to work for rtings business model. The statistics regarding number of users willing to pay for this kind of content is really depressing. With 100K subscribers donating just a single $1, would be enough to cover the costs of buying most of the flagship TVs worth reviewing each year. Maybe raffle off the TVs after review as an additional incentive for those supporting the channel?

    Hi Vincent, I appreciate your work here and your particular style is what we all need. I think you should maybe move to a format where you review a set only when you receive enough donation money from your viewers, that would also work as a voting mechanism. Once the funds are there you can buy the TV and review it, then do a giveaway targeting all the people who have donated. I guess Kickstarter would be a good platform for this kind of model, or you could implement Kickstarter features in your website. Obviously you need to reach even more ppl to make such a model work in a timely manner, just my two cents. Wish you a happy New year!
