i did the math and for me, After 5 years, a NL on a $60k EV is a slightly cheaper than owning a $50K ICE car for 5 years. (and that includes balloon payment). That will change soon when the FBT exemption expires next year.
Just a note that the MG ZS EV 2023 is currently available for $34,990 driveaway. The BYD Dolphin is currently available for $36,890 + ORC, driveaway price is $39,332 in Victoria.
There are cheap EVs in the US also. We love our Chevy Bolt EV. My friend bought the base model for $28k. Plus, the federal and state incentives brought it down to $18.5k. About the same price as the cheapest petrol car in the US. Granted it's not sold this year 2024 due to GMs decision to change battery platforms, it'll be back in production next year with the updated platform.
In Australia EV on a novated lease is way cheaper than petrol.
