I was 17 years old when I got to Vietnam-1966 through 1969 (My mom had to sign a waiver for me), I grew up fast and learned a lot, good and bad. (I am now 73 and still learning). I was stationed on the USS Providence and also stationed in Country at a place called "Monkey Mountain" close to DaNang,. I spent 3 tours of duty in and around Vietnam. 3 of my high school friends were killed in Vietnam, I was spared. I participated in the TET Offensive in Feb 1968, that was bad. Somewhere along the way I was exposed to Agent Orange (Nasty Stuff) I am now on disability for the effects of agent orange. When I was discharged and came home to the States we arrived in San Francisco, and there were a lot of protesters spitting on us and throwing rocks and eggs and called us baby killers. That was our welcome home. I tell you this to say to you, that whatever your position is or was on the Vietnam war, it was not the veteran who got us into the war, most of us went because we were patriots and loved our country. Blame the politicians, yes, but not the veteran. To all Vietnam Vets out there, you are not forgotten. As a previous combat Vet myself, I salute you my friend.

Denny, I am so sorry that happened to you. How awful to receive that kind of welcome. And I feel bad that the government harmed you with a dangerous, deadly chemical. You should not just get disability, you should get all of your living expenses paid by the government for the rest of your life. Everything. Period!

I salute you sir "ex army myself" My uncle served 2 tours in vietnam in the marines. First tour he was a grunt. Came back to the usa and was moved to be a tank commander. Got sent back as a tank commander and about half way through his second tour he got malaria. Spent a year in a hospital ship, then quite a while longer in hospital back in the usa. After he got better they moved him to artillery. He absolutely hated artillery. Thats what eventually forced him out.
He died in 2004 just a couple days before thanks giving from prostate cancer due to agent orange.
I know until the day he died he still have nightmares and flashbacks. I was very very close to him. But he wouldnt even talk to me about what exactly went on. He raised me as his son.

President Johnson''s daughters were sunning their buns while mothers' boys were shipped back to their families for closed-coffin funerals. Johnson, worst President ever. The Vietnam War was an unconstitutional, illegal police action in which 50,000 American and uncounted Vietnamese lives went down the drain for absolutely nothing. Vietnam eventually won the police action and since then have been a model, productive nation. In my son's close closet hangs a fur-collar winter jacket made in Vietnam. I have a stereo amplifier and fine single-lens-reflex digital camera kit, both made in Vietnam, post police action. Vietnam should have been left alone to develop their society as they saw fit. There are "good" communists, two of which that come to mind are Josip Broz Tito, President of Yugoslavia and Nguyễn Phú Trọng, General Secretary of Vietnam. Let's leave nations alone and stop trying to be the world's policeman.
