- Mayor of Millom Simone Faulkner reveals the local authorities and residents weren’t informed of government plans to use eight homes to house asylum seekers.
“We had to do our own investigation - we should have been consulted first and foremost!”
Mayor Faulkner goes on to say that residents have a right to be angry as the town already has “poor” infrastructure.
''The people of Millom deserve better. We still have hundreds on waiting lists for affordable housing.''
A Home Office spokesperson responded to the row:
"We have always been upfront about the unprecedented pressure being put on our asylum system, brought about by a significant increase in dangerous and illegal journeys into the country over recent years.
The Home Office has a statutory duty to provide safe and secure housing for asylum seekers and we are continuing to work closely with local authorities, including in Millom, to manage any impact in the area and address local concerns."

Millom is a fantastic and very small close community where everyone knows everyone. It's one of the safest places to live in the UK with little to no crime. The locals are not going to upset this by allowing multiple people with unknown history, all male, in their numbers turning up and upsetting this settled community.. especially with these homes being directly in front of infant and primary schools overlooking the playing grounds. Locals have a right to be concerned.

I had to have a tooth extraction today at local hospital dental hub. Three people were locals and another four were migrants and only one could speak broken English. They had free treatment which I heard included root canal surgery. I paid taxes all my life but of course I pay. This country disgusts me.

I'm delighted one of the contractors had the decency to pull out after hearing the local's concerns...well done them. Now what about the others? because in my view, any company that knowingly constructs a house for migrants to live in is aiding & abetting, which is only compounding the massive immigration problem in this country. The lady just stated that there are 110 local families that are waiting to be housed so in reality there should be no shortage of work for contractors or tradesmen.
Back in the sixties my father took out entire family to Canada after endless interviews and health checks , where his job there in Canada , was meant to come with a house , which was all done here in Britain , fast forward winter 1967 , and four small children , and Mum pregnant with me getting off the boat - to find the house and job didnt exist !! Nobody gave my family a thing !! My Dad walked miles in the snow to find a job and a house after leaving Mum and the famiy in a hotel - Nobody helped my Dad !! Nobody gave them a thing !

Guys I can assure you this isn’t the first place SERCO have been doing this.
I’m a property investment consultant by trade and this came up as one of our products MONTHS ago, SERCO have these sites all over the North, investors buy the houses (cash only) and get a fixed 9% gross income for 5 + 2 years (that’s how long the asylum process really takes) I’ve refused to sell it for political and moral reasons.
I’ve seen these projects in Bradford, Halifax, Hartlepool.. to name a few, off the top of my head I think we were marketing 14/15 of these.

If you don’t pay the bills you can be kicked out onto the streets, don’t pay council tax, you can be imprisoned, and for water, don’t pay for gas and electricity you can be cut off all with the authority of HM courts! Don’t look for work you get sanctioned or black listed using the authority of HM government. If you are illegal you will be given everything for free from Serco with the blessing of HM government and by default you cannot be sanctioned imprisoned or fined!

The majority of ppl didn`t say they wanted this. We were promised by Cameron that he would get immigration down to a few thousand. Every pm since him has lied to us,but no more, we wont believe their lies and insincere promises any longer.
