Learnt how to work on 4WDs on my Dad's 1985 Toyota 4Runner. He passed away 10 years ago now. Bought and restored a 1989 4Runner with my kids to carry on the tradition.
I've been looking at getting an immobiliser, alarm and tracking system installed into my LN106. I from New Zealand and car theft over here has been really bad lately will be moving to Auckland in august and could really use a security system like this as I am a student and would much rather spend the money on upgrading my ute. Definitely a must need, Regardless of insurance or not - insurance will pay out what the car is worth, but time spent building the car is invaluable
I had a car stolen a few years ago. Eventually they recovered it but everything was ripped out from it. Its gut wrenching when you have worked so hard for something then a pack of Mongrels steal it and destroy it. I’m sure a tracker like this would have helped if I had one back then. Absolutely heartbreaking cars stolen. Thursday night in the Territory our Isuzu mux was stolen and travelled to Adelaide river bogged and left. Security captures a man going through our triton 2nd car and then stealing our Isuzu. The most devastating thing knowing our car is gone money stolen and invasion of privacy. just bought my first 4wd and with that comes insurance, been thinking about getting my car insurered but it will cost up to 3 grand and was an apprentice who just spent all there money on a car its hard but safety and precautions are number 1 so I'm biting the bullet and getting it done, would help heaps the extra theft proof devices for my car so I know no one can take my pride and joy. love the vids keep it up.
My first car was a 1978 Diesel BJ40 Landcruiser. Bought it of a farmer back in 2009 when they were still cheap (all original, no rust, paid $2000 for it). I spent all the money I made during high school working on it, in preparation for my P's. I drove that car for 3 - 4 years and loved it. It always got beeps, waves and flashes from fellow Shorty 40 lovers. When I was an apprentice mechanic I had to park at a train station for trade school. One day I came out and it was stolen. I had forgotten to arm the cheap alarm I had installed! All that remained was a pile of smashed glass. Never saw it again. Police were not helpful at all! I tried for weeks to locate it using socials and help from family. I remember watching your story unfold and feeling frustrated with the lack of effort from police! I only had 3rd party insurance as it was all I could afford at the time. The insurance company refused to acknowledge the cars value ($10-$15,000 at the time) They gave me $3000 based on "Market Value".... That was back in 2014. I now have a mint GU Patrol that I just bought. I plan on making this car a keeper for many years. A tracker is something I wish I put on the 40. You bet I will never make that mistake again. And regardless if I even come close to winning. I will buy one anyway!

whole bunch of mates who i know have had there utes nicked recently, i have a ln106 hilux probably the easiest car to break into, so a tracker would be awesome. cheers
These products look great. I had a similar situation as you Sam and my 1985 shorty Landcruiser was stolen from my mechanics at the time in 2020. I luckily recovered it and want to install trackers now due to their ease to steal and so I know where it is at all times. We spend so much time and money in building our rigs and it is devistating when we have to go through what we have. Cheers and keep up the good work.

I’ve never thought about having trackers for my car or bike as never been in this type of situation with cars but after hearing stories of cars being stolen I need to start looking into for a piece of mind. Another great ep keep up all the great content can’t wait to see the build down the line

Hey Sam, love the vids! One of the only 4x4 channels that actually seems genuine! Never thought about a tracker until I saw your rig get stolen and ever since then I’ve been looking into them. Unfortunately I’m in debt from stupid young decisions and can hardly afford fuel, let alone a tracker. Spent 13 years saving for my current Ute while balancing debt repayments and would be absolutely devastated if it disappeared without a trace. Never commented on anything before and feel extremely embarrassed, but if it lands me a chance to keep the one good thing in my life in my possession, It’s worth it.
I dont trust anyone with anything especially when you put your heart into something you love and so passionate about it couldn't imagine having my 4wd stolen

Iv just spent 8 months lifting, locking and engine swapping my vitara, but it has next to no security. A mongoose tracker will ensure my pride and joy stays safe, and allows me to have many adventures in it in the future!
I had my last LN106 hilux stolen about ten years ago, was never recovered and was uninsured due to being heavily modified and recently restored..insurance just didn't seem worth it for the price vs market value insurance. Had only owned it for two weeks and spent a long time paying off something I no longer had. Finally purchased another LN106 last year. I now live in a small town in the NT and cars get stollen multiple times a week - I need a tracker so I can find my baby when it inevitably gets pinched and joy ridden by the lovely young fellas in my town!
Loving the comedy you bring to your videos bro. Don't stop as it brightens our day! I would love a tracker as I have to store tens of thousands of dollars of gear in a my single cab 4x4 canopy. Gear that is too heavy to carry but that doesn't mean they can't steal my pride and joy and also my means of providing for my family. Hi Sam, i too have an 80 series. I'm a mechanic and i understand how easy it is to steal these vehicles. One side of the coin they are simply bush proof. But the other is they are ridiculously easy to hotwire. For this reason and watching your ordeal, i have been researching trackers to protect mine. I have already settled on a mongoose tracker due to to my trust with the brand and would absolutly cherish winning one of them. I have put far too much money and time/LOVE! Into buiding my dream 4wd tourer and family getaway car. I'd never sell, but starting again is something i just can't even consider. Sorry for the long comment.

I bought a new car the day you uploaded your stolen 4wd and its made me pretty paraniod of my patrol getting pinched. Our family would love a mongoose kit we love our touring car! We own a 79 series it was parked out the front of our place and was stolen, we are so very lucky we got it back but next time we might not be so lucky.. having a tracker would be such an awesome accessory to keep our baby safe and easily found if stolen again.
Hi sam and anybody who reads this. Like you and by reading the comments so many others on here. I too have had a 4wd stolen, a gu patrol a few years back. O boy ive just had another one really badly messed up. Cant say much due to possible legal issues and trying to sortout what just happened to this one, but both times at workshops. I'll be getting a tracker for sure once the next one is purchased. Till then carefule where you send your cars everyone.

Had my Colorado RG stolen and my Insurance did not cover me as my Insurance lapse, by 2 months and did not know found my car in the bush about 3 hours away and now im fixing it to get my pride and joy back and running. This accessory will help me prevent me losing it again and if it dose I can find it.

Great video sam, sadly car theft is on the rise daily everywhere with all these young youths thinking they can do what they want. I wrote my last 4X4 off 2 years ago and haven’t been out since due to building up a sas/airbag n70 (still not done 🙄) and would hate for it to get stolen after waiting so long to get it on the road.
In my old landcruiser I used to run twin kill switches as well as a tracker. The switches shut the fuel pump and another to the starter. Now I’m starting my new build on a Dmax and looking at something similar.

Definitely just like you buddy it was heartbreaking watching what you went through when you lost the naughty 40. I waited for your updates every day and if that ever happened to my car it would be heartbreaking. I wouldn’t wish it upon anybody and I hope that one day the thieves are caught and brought to justice for it.

My neighbours house just got broken into, and they literally stole his pride and joy last night. He was shattered, and the first thing I asked him was, does it have a tracker? Unfortunately, it didn't but how random this video came up in my feed about trackers. It's meant to be that I install one in my Toyota Prado. Great work on the naughty 40 2.0. I am in the process of looking for a tracker and immobiliser as my 80 series has been my dream car ever since I decided I wanted a 4wd. Plus I want to hand my 80 series down to my son when he is of age, and I don't want to lose her. If I was chosen to get this amazing offer, it would give me the biggest relief knowing I'll always be able to find my car. On another note, when you take the petty motor out of your 80, I'm happy to take it off your hands as a project motor

Nicely done. Can’t wait to see this build out. Love my FT. Everything but the factory alarm fob which is difficult to use. Sometimes it sends the signal, mostly it’s hungover sinking nuggets.
I wouldn't wish what you have been through to anyone. Id love one fitted to my vehicle if some low life was to take my ride. The satisfaction knowing the car isn't going anywhere once immobilised is priceless
That wireless unit in conjunction with the wired one is genius. Keep both in the big V8 GU. Until the old 240z's out and about. Throw the wireless one in and good to go. Wasn't aware of the Tiles either, cheers piece of mind sorted.

Same as you mate I have an old 90's alarm system that works sometimes, I only keep it for the keyless entry but I stress hard everytime I leave her somewhere I need this tracking.

I just got a quote from club 4x4 after watching this and they were almost double my Current policy and I’m covered everywhere that I do go already. I don’t use off-road tracks. Only gazetted roads. They seemed good but so expensive in comparison to my racv one.
Hey sam I have a HZJ75 Landcruiser. When I heard that the naughty 40 got stolen I went and bought myself a Apple AirTag. But I know that AirTags are not a good reliable tracker as it does eventually send alerts. I park my landcruiser in the driveway and have my daily driver Subaru parked behind it so it makes it hard for thieves to steal the landcruiser as they will have to steal the Subaru first. But having a proper mongoose tracker would be great assurance that my landcruiser is fully safe and thief proof.

Car theft is unbelievably high in Qld right now and I am sorry to hear about your loss. The thieving mongrels are breaking into houses too. I’d love a tracker for peace of mind to make sure my pride and joy could be found along with the kids that nick it

Good Video Sammy. It's a tough lesson to learn but you will make a difference by spreading the word on insurance. Mate what can I say but where I live is a car theft heaven, and insurance is expensive. BUT I can get a discount if i have an immobiliser and tracker installed. Our rig is the main family car and we would be really stuck without it.
Also got a chopped 80 with an fte. Need to keep it safe and we'd love a take in it. Was praying you get yours back but I can't wait to see what you'll do with this one

Mine has not been stolen yet but the fear is real. Too young to have a heart attack. Bonus safety feature for the two of us is letting her mum track us in the bush. We are forever getting stuck. Hope you get the security feels back as the Mongoose looks ideal for the task.
Thanks for the informative video Sam. I am going to look into the Mongoose products after someone tried to break into my Patrol in the middle of the day whilst I was camping at camp grounds. Pretty brazen to try breaking into a four wheel drive at a campground full of campers in the middle of the day. Luckily they didn’t get in but going to look at protection including cut off switch via app. Once again thanks for the update.
I would like a tracker in my 80 because it is being stored on a block of land where there isn’t many fences and it’s easily accessible and could get stolen so I would like a tracker so I know it’ll be safe. Love the work you put in to making these videos great.
I’m a mechanic and I had my work vehicle broken into about a year ago and $10,000 worth of tools taken And my other vehicle a MK3 supra was stolen many years ago and the dimwit couldn’t even drive manual and destroyed the gearbox Fair to say I’ve had enough of thieves, trackers are on my list of things to get

If i won the tracking i would like to set it up in my 08 Ford FG 50th Ani G6E turbo and i know its not a 4x4, but im will be eventually getting one once ive sorted out my pride and joy. I first purchased this car back in 2016 for 13k with 78k on the OD and its been with me through every struggle ive had in the last 6years. Like you going from job to job due to cutting or the business going under, bad relationships, the works, but car was my dream car and it was the only reliable thing i had going 😅. I have since invested in my baby a new built engine as the original blew up, a new built trans as the same thing it blew up. I have redone and upgraded every suspension component from bushes to nuts and bolts, shockworks coilovers, built diff. Nothing was left out. Complete interior refresh and exterior refresh. I didnt skimp out on any part of this car, but i never even thought on installing a tracker and knowing what you went through and the time, money and tears spent on your baby like i have gives me nightmares. So it would be fantastic to install one of these on my pride and joy so that i would have that piece of mind, thankyou 😁👍.

These products look great. I had a similar situation as you Sam and my 1985 shorty Landcruiser was stolen from my mechanics at the time in 2020. I luckily recovered it and want to install trackers now due to their ease to steal and so I know where it is at all times. We spend so much time and money in building our rigs and it is devistating when we have to go through what we have. Cheers and keep up the good work.

I’ve never thought about having trackers for my car or bike as never been in this type of situation with cars but after hearing stories of cars being stolen I need to start looking into for a piece of mind. Another great ep keep up all the great content can’t wait to see the build down the line

Just like you mate, my wife & I had both our cars stolen back in Nov2020. I woke up to my wife’s car starting in the garage, I remember everyday waiting for updates from the police and wishing I had trackers in the vehicles. All the best for the future mate, looking forward to your new build! 👍

Never thought about a tracker until I saw your rig get stolen and ever since then I’ve been looking into them. Unfortunately I’m in debt from stupid young decisions and can hardly afford fuel, let alone a tracker. Spent 13 years saving for my current Ute while balancing debt repayments and would be absolutely devastated if it disappeared without a trace.
Never commented on anything before and feel extremely embarrassed, but if it lands me a chance to keep the one good thing in my life in my possession, It’s worth it.
I dont trust anyone with anything especially when you put your heart into something you love and so passionate about it couldn't imagine having my 4wd stolen

Iv just spent 8 months lifting, locking and engine swapping my vitara, but it has next to no security. A mongoose tracker will ensure my pride and joy stays safe, and allows me to have many adventures in it in the future!
I had my last LN106 hilux stolen about ten years ago, was never recovered and was uninsured due to being heavily modified and recently restored..insurance just didn't seem worth it for the price vs market value insurance. Had only owned it for two weeks and spent a long time paying off something I no longer had. Finally purchased another LN106 last year. I now live in a small town in the NT and cars get stollen multiple times a week - I need a tracker so I can find my baby when it inevitably gets pinched and joy ridden by the lovely young fellas in my town!

I would love a tracker as I have to store tens of thousands of dollars of gear in a my single cab 4x4 canopy. Gear that is too heavy to carry but that doesn't mean they can't steal my pride and joy and also my means of providing for my family. Having the tracker would be that extra peace of mind that when I leave it, I know when and where it is. Thanks heaps, Sam!
Sam you are a big unit and seeing you almost in tears when your truck was pinched was heart wrenching. If my NP300 got taken it would probably kill me. I'd not considered a tracker until very recently and I think they are a damn good idea now.

Hi Sam, i too have an 80 series.
I'm a mechanic and i understand how easy it is to steal these vehicles.
One side of the coin they are simply bush proof. But the other is they are ridiculously easy to hotwire.
For this reason and watching your ordeal, i have been researching trackers to protect mine. I have already settled on a mongoose tracker due to to my trust with the brand and would absolutly cherish winning one of them.
I have put far too much money and time/LOVE! Into buiding my dream 4wd tourer and family getaway car.
I'd never sell, but starting again is something i just can't even consider.

We own a 79 series it was parked out the front of our place and was stolen, we are so very lucky we got it back but next time we might not be so lucky.. having a tracker would be such an awesome accessory to keep our baby safe and easily found if stolen again.
Hi sam and anybody who reads this. Like you and by reading the comments so many others on here. I too have had a 4wd stolen, a gu patrol a few years back. O boy ive just had another one really badly messed up. Cant say much due to possible legal issues and trying to sortout what just happened to this one, but both times at workshops. I'll be getting a tracker for sure once the next one is purchased. Till then carefule where you send your cars everyone.

Had my Colorado RG stolen and my Insurance did not cover me as my Insurance lapse, by 2 months and did not know found my car in the bush about 3 hours away and now im fixing it to get my pride and joy back and running. This accessory will help me prevent me losing it again and if it dose I can find it.

Great video sam, sadly car theft is on the rise daily everywhere with all these young youths thinking they can do what they want. I wrote my last 4X4 off 2 years ago and haven’t been out since due to building up a sas/airbag n70 (still not done 🙄) and would hate for it to get stolen after waiting so long to get it on the road.
In my old landcruiser I used to run twin kill switches as well as a tracker. The switches shut the fuel pump and another to the starter.
Now I’m starting my new build on a Dmax and looking at something similar.

I waited for your updates every day and if that ever happened to my car it would be heartbreaking. I wouldn’t wish it upon anybody and I hope that one day the thieves are caught and brought to justice for it.

My neighbours house just got broken into, and they literally stole his pride and joy last night. He was shattered, and the first thing I asked him was, does it have a tracker? Unfortunately, it didn't but how random this video came up in my feed about trackers. It's meant to be that I install one in my Toyota Prado. Great work on the naughty 40 2.0. I am in the process of looking for a tracker and immobiliser as my 80 series has been my dream car ever since I decided I wanted a 4wd. Plus I want to hand my 80 series down to my son when he is of age, and I don't want to lose her. If I was chosen to get this amazing offer, it would give me the biggest relief knowing I'll always be able to find my car.
On another note, when you take the petty motor out of your 80, I'm happy to take it off your hands as a project motor

Love my FT. Everything but the factory alarm fob which is difficult to use. Sometimes it sends the signal, mostly it’s hungover sinking nuggets.

That wireless unit in conjunction with the wired one is genius. Keep both in the big V8 GU. Until the old 240z's out and about. Throw the wireless one in and good to go. Wasn't aware of the Tiles either, cheers piece of mind sorted.

I’ve been lucky enough in my life to not have one of my cars stolen, soon to be picking up a new Dmax and a tracker seems to be a must have for everyone’s pride and joy.
I have recently purchased my dream GU and I am on the journey or building it up and kitting it out, these trackers would be an awesome addition and peace of mind
I just got a quote from club 4x4 after watching this and they were almost double my Current policy and I’m covered everywhere that I do go already. I don’t use off-road tracks. Only gazetted roads. They seemed good but so expensive in comparison to my racv one.
Just finished building my ute would be a great addition to keep it all protected!

Hey sam I have a HZJ75 Landcruiser. When I heard that the naughty 40 got stolen I went and bought myself a Apple AirTag. But I know that AirTags are not a good reliable tracker as it does eventually send alerts. I park my landcruiser in the driveway and have my daily driver Subaru parked behind it so it makes it hard for thieves to steal the landcruiser as they will have to steal the Subaru first. But having a proper mongoose tracker would be great assurance that my landcruiser is fully safe and thief proof.
Same as you, I have an 80 and have always wanted to get a tracker. It's all the mods and time I've spent building custom drawers and setting it up, can't imagine loosing it all :(

I just want to apologise i was completely wrong and i give a shit ton of respect to you for making this video. Good Video Sammy. It's a tough lesson to learn but you will make a difference by spreading the word on insurance. Mate what can I say but where I live is a car theft heaven, and insurance is expensive. BUT I can get a discount if i have an immobiliser and tracker installed. Our rig is the main family car and we would be really stuck without it.
Also got a chopped 80 with an fte. Need to keep it safe and we'd love a take in it. Was praying you get yours back but I can't wait to see what you'll do with this one

Mine has not been stolen yet but the fear is real. Too young to have a heart attack. Bonus safety feature for the two of us is letting her mum track us in the bush. We are forever getting stuck. Hope you get the security feels back as the Mongoose looks ideal for the task.
Thanks for the informative video Sam. I am going to look into the Mongoose products after someone tried to break into my Patrol in the middle of the day whilst I was camping at camp grounds. Pretty brazen to try breaking into a four wheel drive at a campground full of campers in the middle of the day. Luckily they didn’t get in but going to look at protection including cut off switch via app. Once again thanks for the update.
I would like a tracker in my 80 because it is being stored on a block of land where there isn’t many fences and it’s easily accessible and could get stolen so I would like a tracker so I know it’ll be safe. Love the work you put in to making these videos great.

And my other vehicle a MK3 supra was stolen many years ago and the dimwit couldn’t even drive manual and destroyed the gearbox

If i won the tracking i would like to set it up in my 08 Ford FG 50th Ani G6E turbo and i know its not a 4x4, but im will be eventually getting one once ive sorted out my pride and joy.
I first purchased this car back in 2016 for 13k with 78k on the OD and its been with me through every struggle ive had in the last 6years. Like you going from job to job due to cutting or the business going under, bad relationships, the works, but car was my dream car and it was the only reliable thing i had going 😅.
I have since invested in my baby a new built engine as the original blew up, a new built trans as the same thing it blew up. I have redone and upgraded every suspension component from bushes to nuts and bolts, shockworks coilovers, built diff. Nothing was left out. Complete interior refresh and exterior refresh.
I didnt skimp out on any part of this car, but i never even thought on installing a tracker and knowing what you went through and the time, money and tears spent on your baby like i have gives me nightmares.
So it would be fantastic to install one of these on my pride and joy so that i would have that piece of mind, thankyou 😁👍.
