Ayo this worked great! One hat took about 10 minutes and got a nice snug fit, another hat took about 30 mins of constant boiling to get a good fit but tbh maybe another 10 mins and it's gonna fit exactly right. Shame the quality control of New Era sizing is so poor now, what you buy ain't always what you get! Regardless, I massively appreciate this video! 💪🏽

59 Fifty 100% polyester fitted from a 7 1/2 down to about 7 3/8 maybe slightly smaller, but not down to 71/2. Plus you don't risk burning it in an oven, spark in the microwave, or drowning or soaking in water.
By far, it is the most sensible and easiest option of those I've seen online. Essentially, using steam to relax and shrink the size down. I did it, and it worked. Did like 8 minutes the way you show, with most of the back of the hat and about an inch of the brim hanging straight over the pot (sort of like a lid) so all the stem goes inside the center and along the sides. Took it off and tried it on, but I still wanted more shrinkage on the sides. I put it back on and focused on each side individually for 5 minutes each. I had the side hanging over the center of the boiling water rather than closer to the edge of the pot, as it originally was. Pulled it off after each side was done, and I tried it on and much better. Adjusted bending the brim again from the corners (where the brim meets the cap material on top) and absolutely perfect.
    Great video. Thanks for posting.

I wear 7 1/4. I tried it on my 7 3/8 hat and managed to make it fit perfectly for me. It was a 95% polyester 5% spandex New Era hat, so this makes the trick for those materials too 👍 Thanks for the video! Saved the hat from catching dust in my cupboard. It was a present so I didn't want to sell it 😀

I normally fit 7 3/8 but sometimes they can fit too too loose. But I shrink it by boiling water, in a small pot, I then put a piece of paper towel to cover the brim , I then put the cap on the top not wetting it but js putting it there for 5 to 10 mins on mid-high. Once I know it fully steamed, then I take it out, then use a blow dryer to dry it. And it shrunk. You could do it twice if you need it extra shrink. Works. Now my Chicago bulls 7 3/8 fit nice, not lose , not too tight.

Maaaan I hope this really works! I just bought 2 new hats from New Era, a batting practice Tigers hat that fits PERFECTLY at 7 1/8, and a taupe NY Mets in the same size that is at least 7 1/4”. I can get my fingers all the way between the hat and my head with any resistance. Was going to send it back, already got the approval, but I love it and they don’t do exchanges so I’d have to do the whole wait process again. If this can get it to shrink 1/8” I’d be soooo stoked. Gonna try this right after work. Luckily it was on sale for $25 so if it doesn’t I won’t be too pissed that I can’t send it back. Thank you for this! If it works that is 😂

I have a problem with New Era fitted hats that this video has just completely sorted. I'm between sizes and my first attempts at addressing this was people recommend to stretch a cap. I did that and it does work but it looks stretched. The inner head band is very visable through the size of the cap and it doesn't look great. The other issue is its still too tight on my head.
Going a size up I tried to use hat reducing foam. This didn't feel great and again pushes the inner head band into a more visble position.
This technique right here works incredible. My reservations were not that this fine gentlemen wasn't telling the truth but I just presumed the amount of shrinkage would be quite subtle. It isn't.. after a bit of testing - and i've not pushed this too far, it feels like you can go down a full hat size. My head is exactly 60cm. And the 7 5/8 I just bought is around 60.6cm. It took me just over 10 mins of steaming to get a hat that would have blown off my head if someone farted in the house over the road to a perfectly fitted tight cap that could withstand a strong wind.
As a bonus is was a great time to curve the rim and get out the side creases.
as a tip make sure the pan is just large enough so the entire back side of the headband gets steamed
    Thank you so much!

Thanks for this info. What I don't like is the front and top of the had being so darn rigid and I want it relaxed and to lay more flat rather than standing up. The way I do it is simply putting the cap directly into boiling water, top down. I turn off the heat but let the hat sit in the water for 5 minutes or more. Remove it and work the front to relax it more. So far, my hats have not been damaged, they relax and shrink.

technically wouldnt using a steam gun on the inside of the cap do the same thing rather than a pot on the stove?

Why stand there and hold a steam gun for 7 minutes when you can use this method? Doesn't even make sense
