That metal cover over the bikeway at about 14mins is to protect you from falling Bunya nut cones. The only place i have seen Bunya trees in Bunyaville.
Turns out the school break is steep which is why we don't go there, the breaks are gnarly. Lomandra is the way should you venture back. ;) I suspect it might have been bum clenching coming down there in the dark. That's my pedaling (stomping?) ground and its very nice all through there. Nice too you got to meet the local magpies... lol. Thanks for putting it together. 👍
There was definitely a lot of "clenching" going on with that final descent :) I really should explore the Ironbark MTB trails - I bet they'd be loads of fun in there. Yep, the maggies were very welcoming, lol!
That was a great ride, wish we saw more of your gnarly steep decent in the darkness, scary lol Love the commentary, more about your bike with the TPU tubes, I'm considering them myself.
That descent was definitely sketchy! :) Yeah, re the TPU tubes, once I use mine up, I'll be ditching them and going back to the usual black ones I think. I was disappointed - I've changed 2 already due to slow leaks.
Thanks for another great ride vid, John! Can I ask why you prefer to use your Garmin Watch compared to using the bigger screen of your phone which is right in front of you? I don't have a Garmin but I'd love good, usable navigation to keep me "on track"! I think I'm going to call you "Gadget Guy" from now on! Looks like the new "gadget" is a Cofee WINNER! The Magpies are everywhere, unfortunately!
Thanks for watching, David! I think I try to conserve my phone battery because I use my phone a lot on my rides to film content, and that chews up the power. So, having the phone on with the GPS going constantly really drains it fast - but on my watch it lasts for ages. I do like my gadgets, lol.... yep, this coffee maker is fun to take around. :)
You could have a joe at a gaezo at curlew park if u turn right before turning left towards Deagon, you still get to enjoy it while watching the sun set
Hey Jelbuilder there are some nice rides around Browns plains out to Greenbank. Nice parks along the way and I've seen some wallabies and goannas etc. Also from Drewvale up to Stretton there is a Bikeway along the mt Lindsay then keep going through Sunnybank Hills might be worth looking into. 😊 Or you could turn left and past Parkinson and travel through Parkinson duck pond along sheep station creek out to Algester. Lots of Ibis too mate😊
Thanks for suggestions. I just checked out Sheep Station Creek on Google Maps... looks like a nice segment for me to check out - plus it's a lot closer to my neck of the woods towards Logan. I think I also saw that Bikeway recently from Drewvale area too just the other day! Cheers!
@@diegosantos9752 mate. Full face helmet and you can stand there checking your phone while they bomb. Most will actually understand that they have no way of hitting my head and give up after a week or so of back and forth. . I basically wear one from sept-dec every year regardless.
Riding up the School Break is pretty impressive, but I reckon riding down the IBG break in the dark and for the first time deserves great respect. Because I suffer from oldness (and because I’m really lazy), I go to the end of the path along Samford Road and ride up a less steep fire trail called Lomandra Road and follow the fire trail along the ridge-line back to bear corner - it’s a nice short ride if you ever find yourself out that way again. Anyway, now you’ve done all the big northside paths. I guess if you ever need more places to go to make videos, there’s only a few littler northside ones left like the Downfall Creek path and the Cedar Creek path (behind the Ferny Grove Station) that runs to Bellbird Grove through Ross Road Park at Upper Kedron - not a long path but a nice enough ride. WoW … riding down IBG for the first time in the dark - that is seriously impressive - we are not worthy.
Lol, thanks.... On my return, due to the pitch darkness, I kinda forgot just how steep it was before lunging forth (probably just as well). I just filmed the mid-point on the descent.... which was still steep, but the first part was pretty crazy for sure - almost lost it as the grip was just sliding down - and required two hands before I had a chance to turn on the camera. :) I'll take a closer look at those other two you mentioned and see what I can map out. Thanks!!
@@jelbuilderfilms Mate those fire roads are child's play...you haven't had fun unless you've rode chainsaw/chainsaws brother out at camp mountain in the dark. Probably the most harrowing experience I've had.
At 22mins on your right was a huge illegal bmx track in the bush that hit the news. The council shut it down was a pity. The kids where doing no harm. The council destroyed more bush then the kids did.
I just looked it up.... at Carseldine Bushland and nicknamed Bloodgum Trails. The youngsters put quite a bit of work into it. What a shame council fenced it up!
60yr ago in Green Valley, Banks Bush was our place to ride. Unfortunately councils think the cement creations are good substitutes and in some ways they are but being in the bush, the tracks and the teamwork and using what's around you to build... it was empowering. They should recognise the kids ideas and direct the creativity and energy rather than saying they're doing something wrong.
I've got the pink tubes as well & they just slowly leak. I've tried a number of tubes from different Aliexpress manufacturers and they all have the same fault. Seems to be 5-10psi per day.
Yes, it thought these TPU tubes would be gamechangers.... instead its made me want to change back to my usual black tubes or back to tubeless. Oh well, don't know until you give it a go.
Jel. Do you have European valves on your bikes? If so, what do you think of them? I bought a mountain bike for my daughter and it wasn't untill I got it home that I took a closer look at it and realised it has Europeian valves. I hate them!!! I bought an adaptar that soposedly allow them to be pumped up with the standard air thing at service stations, however I haven't had much luck with them. I was trying to use my compressor to pump up, however I couldn't get a reading of the pressure. My Daughter squatting down, feeling the tyre, said, "Dad, I think that's enough", then,,, BANG!! The dog took off and flew into the house. My Daughter said her ears were rigging for a while and so were mine. Lucky there was no other injuries. I bent the rim slightly and damaged the bead of the tyre. I've thought about drilling out the hole and putting standard car valves in. Bike shop warned me not to do this as it would void warranty, but I've damaged the rim anyway. What do you think. Another great video, anyway!
Wow... sounds like you had a crazy bike tire valve adventure right there! Using the compressor is pretty much a no-no. Got to use a bike pump otherwise you've experienced what can happen. Yes, the European valves as you call it are the Presta valves (or French valves), and the other standard valves are the Schrader valves (like on our cars). The Presta Valves were new to me too when I first got into mountain biking, but they seem to be standard fare on all the more serious bikes out there from what I can tell.... so I'm used to them now. I've used that adaptor you're referring to before, and its pretty crappy. Most bike pumps these days have a combination head for both Presta/Schrader valves, so that's what I've been using for years now. Personally, I wouldn't drill out the tire rims to accommodate the Schrader valve tubes because I'm so used to the Presta valve tubes. Double check that the wheel still runs straight and true if you've damaged it - don't want it to wobble. Also, sounds like you might need a new rubber tire if the bead is damaged.
Its the Hornibrook bridge !!!! only people that havent lived in the area for 20 years call it the haughton highway 😂😂🤣🤣 Great Vid though John , this one looks like its worth riding.... but i appreciate all the bike path vids you have put together 👌👌 Just a quick question how do I download the route you ride is there a GXP or GPX file ?
