Nothing makes me happier than seeing the younger generation really smiling and getting into the music I grew up with, this came out the year I graduated from high school, 1990!
Same here Bob. Class of 1990! Good times! Man! The world has really gone to hell since then.
@@saltysouthernmomma9354 yes it has, I really feel bad for the younger generation that will never experience growing up as we did.
Summer of ‘90…. I can remember where I was and what I was doing when I first heard this tape. Same year Vanilla Ice came out. Music back then was something else. They’ll never make music like that again.
Class of 90, Bob. It felt great coming of age to music like this. It was and is electrifying.
I graduated 1987, youngster🤣
Rick James - 'Super freak' was sampled for this... Apparently, the late Rick James heard the track & called his managers, "I thought I told you not to let any more rappers sample my music!"
But when they told him how much royalty $$$ he was going to make, he said, "Oh, nevermind. Forget I said anything."
The man needed his cocaine. I'm sure MC Hammer helped the cause.
"I'm Rick James, B*TCH!"
In 1990, Rick James sued MC Hammer for copyright infringement when Hammer sampled his song “Super Freak” in Hammer's all time greatest hit “Can't Touch This” without permission. Ironically, James won his first and only Grammy off of “Can't Touch This,” due to the sample of “Super Freak” the song contained.
@@johnkonertz8042 True dat but Super Freak was actually a better song IMO
@@haolejohn agreed 👍
Music that brought people together without profanity, obscenity, gang banging, and all that mess. Great party music that got EVERYONE up on the dance floor!
Wow. So true
And you could actually understand what the artists were saying
If you're of a certain age and you hear someone forcefully say "Stop!", in your head you'll hear "Hammer time!"
Or, "collaborate and listen".
That's exactly right. As a matter of fact. Being a believer in Jesus, I know I am protected. So commonly when I am witnessing to someone, I will say, "Can't touch this." Which is true. One day I was about to back out into traffic where I could not see what was coming down the road from my left and someone I could not see banged on my truck 3 times which made me quickly pull back into the driveway. I strained to see who had banged on my truck and there was nobody there.
@@brianb8060 Or, (in the name of love) if you are even older, lol.
Every Time
lol 💯
Gawd, ADogg, I love to see you laughing like that!!! What a belly laugh, proper cheered me up. To this day I can never sit at a STOP sign without shouting out HAMMERTIME!!! Back in the day, this was deadly serious though, not funny at all.
I don't think he's laughing at it, he's enjoying it to the max. I get why he's laughing and the song and video always makes me smile. For me it's "It Takes Two" (Red Alert), "Pump Up the Jam" and this song.
Everybody was trying to do the "Hammer dance" just like the decade before we were trying to moonwalk.
The Harem pants were a big deal....for a short time.
This was 89/90
I think more 1990.
MC Hammer was and is, from all accounts, a really good guy!
Everybody ( even my boomer parents) liked MC Hammer. The song you just listened to was a sensation, it was everywhere!!
Good memories! Great reaction!
True... But not quite Moonwalk level. Actually not even close
@@LN-Lifer I still try to moonwalk.
@@3DJapan and I still fail!
@@3DJapan there were 3 generations siting in my white bread living room when MJ broke the moonwalk out for the first time and we all looked at each other in amazement when we saw it. And then we all tried. Including my nearly 70 year old grandmother.
I was in 8th grade soooooooooooo....88 or 89
In the '80s we wore baggy pants, but then MC Hammer brought them to the next level... LOL...
We called them Harem or Aladdin pants and wore them with Harem shoes. They seem to originate from Persia but I`m not sure.
I loved the video/song when it came out in 1990 and, for me, it hasn`t lost one bit of its charm :)
LOL... I really love your reaction (as always)!
Or parachute pants.
After this they were definitely called Hammer pants lol
omg YES I HAD PARACHUTE PANTS!!! AS WE CALLED THEM
@@jackmandu No, y'all--parachute pants were made out of material that resembled parachute silk, and they weren't baggy! They had decorative zippers on them. I had 2 pairs: black and red. Parachute pants antedated harem pants. However, when they came out, I bought a black pair of them, too! My younger sister bought a yellow pair of Aladdin or harem pants just a few years ago, believe it or not, & we had great fun watching her do MC Hammer's sideways steps while wearing them.
Baggy pants have been worn throught history, and still are, I mean every day we have to look at the boxers of an aggravating number of adolescent boys wearing sagging jeans. Those are not too different. The term "harem" does come from the ancient middle east, but not exclusively Persia. (Sorry, history nerd here) Lots of pants were baggy because zippers etc did not exist. The reason even boys wore dresses until they were toilet trained was because it was easier to change diapers that way. So if you see a photo of your great grandpa or whoever in a dress, they were not toilet trained when the photo was taken. Now of course we have zippers, snaps and other closures that make dealing with pants easier. In the ancient middle east you could just fold and hem some fabric to make baggy pants, but women still wore dresses. The idea of harem pants on women is a Hollywood movie adaptation.
Lol it is funny BUT when it came out…every kid was dancing around saying can’t touch this. LMAO GREAT REVIEW!!!! “ HAMMER TIME”
1990. Man what a great year for songs like this. A few more mentions:
'Pray' - MC Hammer
'Gonna Make You Sweat' - C+C Music Factory's
'Poison' - Bell Biv DeVoe
'Close To You' - Maxi Priest
'Everybody Everybody' - Black Box
'Ice Ice Baby' - Vanilla Ice
'It's A Shame' - Monie Love
We got to pray just to make it today
To this day whenever I hear Black Box...I'm 19 again at the Tequila Sunrise in TJ.
I love 'Gonna Make You Sweat' and "Poison"
One of my favorite MC Hammer videos is Too Legit to Quit. Major dance moves and features James Brown.
"U Can't Touch This" came out in 1990 off the album "Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em"
My cheeks hurt from smiling while watching you watch this iconic video... LOVE your energy, don't stop!!
HA!! This reaction brought me joy. I had hammer pants (we called them $hit-catchers) in my teen years. I think you'd also like Bust a Move by Young MC, and also Every Little Step by Bobby Brown if you haven't seen those videos. Great songs from back in the day!!
Every Little Step, yes!! Bobby had the moves!
+1 Young MC
This song and video are from my teenage years. It was HUGE back then. Your reaction to it is making me laugh out loud so hard. I'm imagining seeing him dance in these pants for the first time through your eyes, and it's cracking me up with you! 😆🤣🤣
A dog when I saw what you were watching I started grinning ear to ear. Knew your reaction would be awesome. Fun song and video for sure. If you get those pants, you definitely have to share in one of your post 😊
This is the music I grew up with. This era was amazing. Sir Mix-a-lot. A lot of young people remember Tupac but don't remember when he was part of The Digital Underground and the Humpty dance was iconic.
Tupac's introduction on Digital Underground's "Same Song" from the movie Nothing But Trouble. Iconic! "Now I clown around when I hang around with the Underground....."
Also Tupac and Hammer came from the Bay(Tupac) migrated.
Sooo many of the best artists come from groups, and kinda let the groups slide away. To many to mention. I could rattle off a few but, what's the point.
MC sampled the riff from Rick James’ “ Super Freak”!
THE BEST first reaction EVER!! 😂 👐
Later in his career MC signed to Deathrow Records in 1995 & was supposed to work with Tupac before he was killed. He is a pastor now. Please do 2 legit to quit & Pray.
Such a fun thing to watch you react to this. The 80s/90s hip hop and rap, were for everyone. It was fun and cool, sometimes edgy, but anyone could love it. I miss it. Great reaction as always. ❤
I think you’re the first reactor to finally comment on the pretty ladies in the video. They’re really killing it, even more than the boys. It was quite a workout keeping up with Mc Hammer.
You can’t imagine how popular this was when it came out! It still makes me get up and dance! Love it!
MC Hammer was on the verge of superstardom in 1991... then Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, 2Pac came along and made him so uncool that he was gone by 1995...
Hammer was huge when he did this song. It was playing everywhere. I get a good laugh out of it too but at the time everyone wanted to emulate him. Had to watch all the way through, didn’t want to miss a minute of it!
I LOVED your reaction to MC Hammer!! Say to people you know What Time is it & I’ll bet someone will say It’s Hammer Time 🎶😊💗☮️. The pants look like they are from India or certain Middle East countries, usually worn under a long tunic type top 😁💕
It fun fun watching you laugh and oh wow that video brings back memories! The dancers in this video always made me wonder if the video was styled after the tv show In Living Color or the other way around. (those gals could dance)
Those pants were popular in the ‘80s. They are called parachute pants .If you watch the video of Eddie Van Halen playing Eruption he is wearing some pink ones
they're actually harem pants. Parachute pants is a whole 'nother thing.
@@cindyshawver9986 no they are parachute pants. If you google “ who wore parachute pants in the 80’s” the very first thing that comes up is MC Hammer.
Its my Birthday today. I'm off work home alone laughing out loud along with you, I've seen this video many times before its got great energy, but your response and joy watching it has brightened my day x x x
This video debuted in 1990, I think in April. It came off of the success of his debut album, Let's Get It Started (1988). This was the first single off of "Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em'".
At the time, his goal wasn't to just be a well known rapper. He wasn't out for street cred. He was a pastor in an Oakland, CA church who loved to dance and was a pretty good rapper. His goal was to be like his favorite artist growing up, James Brown.
At the time, artists like Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, LL Cool J and Ice-T called him a sell out for doing commercials, movies, cartoons and TV shows.
Now you find so many of them doing the exact same thing.
But, many have never let it go that MC Hammer wanted to be a great entertainer, not just a rapper.
And to this day, Hammer puts on an amazing show in concert. (And yes, he still performs to this day). He has 4 multi-platinum selling albums. ( 2 Legit 2 Quit and The Funky Headhunter the other two) The rest of his stuff has been independent and not sold nearly as well because he was looked at as lame because he wasn't "gangsta". (Of which is another 4-5 albums worth of content).
But, in Oakland and San Francisco, he is still very loved for the good things he did for the community and so if you talk shit about Hammer in that area, it is still fighting words to this day for a lot of people.
But, Hammer himself....is one of the nice guys. He never wanted to be a gangsta. He wanted to be a great entertainer. When one realizes this aspect, it helps to grow much more appreciation for what he did and the barriers he broke in being the first rap artist to get commercials for KFC and Pepsi and write a song for a mainstream movie (Addams Family - Addams Family Grove is the song). He won many MTV and AMA awards and honestly deserves way better than he has gotten. He should be in the Hall of Fame, looked at as a Legend who broke down doors.
Many still only see him as a time capsule to an era they want to forget. Something to joke about. And it is sad.
"Temptations Sing!" always loved that in "Super Freak" and in this song..."STOP! Hammertime!"
Adogg, you need some parachute pants and a few Hammer moves then you’ll be set brother, 😂! Thanks 🔥
💗
Just fab.. ... ... .. shout out for me and my colleagues busy in a London Hospital.. but all happy and energised after dancing in the staff room during our break to M.C no coffee spilt either . !! THANK YOU 👍🏻👍🏾 ♥️🙏🏻🙏🏾XX
They're actually harem pants.
I cant hardly believe you have never heard this...I'm 64 and.....I was on my 30s when I heard it 1st time I heard it. Loved those pants😉
You couldn't go anywhere back in the day without hearing this song at least a dozen times a day...
It still grooves.
Exactly 💯
I love MC Hammer! That man can dance! 🔥🔥😍🔥🔥
trivia: When Hammer says I've toured around the world from London to the Bay" he's talking about Sanfrancisco, CA the city by the bay
I always thought this song was such a bop when I was a kid, I just didn't know that he sampled from Super Freak by Rick James.
Hammer is a good man too. In the late 90s I lived in Tracy Ca and ran into him at a Chevron. Not literally. I heard some some humming and quietly singing when I glanced over, said, “Hey, you’re you!” He smiled and said “Hey, you’re right.” Told him to have a great day and went about my business. As I understand, he was a minister in the area at the time. Not certain if minister is the correct term, apologies if I’m wrong, just not familiar with the religious titles.
When this started playing over and over on MTV in 1990 I thoght its official, the 80s are over, this will be the new music of the 90s.
If you liked this, Hammer had one more smash hit... "Too Legit to Quit." Epic music video.
His voice and energy are so great. I never tire of this one.
The song sampled Rick James’ “Super Freak.” I don’t recall seeing the MC Hammer harem pants outside of this video, but a lot of ladies wore bike pants at the time.
They are called 'parachute pants' but after this video came out, I kid you not, they were called 'Hammer Pants'. I will never forget seeing this video for the first time. Great reaction! Your smile could light up a city 😊🙌🏼 Edited to add: I believe this song came out in 1990-it was played at EVERY high school dance I ever attended, and legit people would be doing the EXACT moves from this video-it was a true cultural force 🔥
Can he PLEASE GET HIS DUES for his PLACE IN POP CULTURE & MUSIC!!!
Yo this whole album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥1989 and 1990
I laughed my ass off watching this video. Laughing out of enjoyment. Such a gift hammertime.
You gotta react to MC Hammer’s “Pray”. He sampled from another great artist. “We got to pray, just to make it today.”
Another song with a good video from around this same time is "Bust A Move" by Young MC. It's got a little humor, rapping, some dancing, and is a song about health self confidence. It is both fun and healthy. I wish they wrote more songs like it today.
Plus a really funky groove. Definitely worth a listen or two.

I had someone make some hammer pants for my sons back in the late 80’s . Wild print material! It was everything 😂😎
I remember them as being called “parachute pants.”
Adogg you make me feel so old, because I rewhen these songs first came out 😆 🤣 😂 I love your reactions to these songs as well.
We called them 'Hammer Pants'. Fun to hear a blast from the past 😊
Love it! Another song by him I love is Pray..would love for you to do that one and also by him that everyone liked was 2 Legit 2 Quit and Pumps And A Bump :) Keep On Rockin'
Please do Pumps and a Bump! Clean version. The dancing is amazing!
When I was 14 I saw him in concert. That man did not stop on stage!! Amazing performer. I owned a pair of these pants too lol
Your reaction was a joy to watch. Had me smiling throughout 😁
I'm 73 years old now and loved this song when it was published and still do. To see a a young man reacting to this song with such a huge smile on his face, love it and thank you !
When this first came out, we were camping. My boyfriend pretended to take a swig of Vodka while this song was playing @ 7:30 am. A couple stopped (looking for a place to camp) and said "oh, this is the place for us".
Best concert I ever saw. About 50 people on stage with him and the choreography was unreal! Talk about hype...the whole concert was just energy on a different level!
Indeed... showmanship was on point
I'll apologize for Vanilla Ice if you apologize for M. C. Hammer. LMAO Just having some fun people, don't get bent.
I still remember one Saturday when I was living in Oakland and I had to take a detour because something was being filmed, which was unusual for that neighborhood. There wasn't much to see from a distance except several trucks and lots of equipment. A couple of days later I heard it was MC Hammer filming a music video. When this music video came out, I knew immediately that it was the one I had to take a detour for. Well worth the couple of minutes it cost me.
This has GOT to be THE fiercest song I ever heard…and watched………..just WOW 😲😄…..thanks for sharing your reaction….tis great 👍
Another good one by M C Hammer is "Have You Seen Her?"
So, A-Dogg, you can still buy harem pants if you want to !!!......i just looked and they still sell them !!!.....they aren't parachute pants either, like most people say.......and please keep smiling and laughing, cuz your inner beauty comes out !!!
Hell yeah! My high school days, takes me back! My fave🙌 💃🕺🎶🎤🎧 Btw those were called parachute pants! 😂 I loved this and O.P.P. Naughty by nature, check it out sometime!
I’m a 64 yr old white grandmother from North Carolina. And I still love this song and especially the video. Some things are just too good!
I just checked Amazon & the MC Hammer pants ARE available (they are advertised as a costume lol🤣)
You need some gold MC Hammer pants!!!!! 😜
You should also check out Vanilla Ice - Ice, Ice Baby. Vanilla's dance moves were mind blowing.
I loved Hammer, but most black ppl/rappers hated him, but I never understood why. White ppl loved them. Blk ppl hated that Hammer had the cereal, kicks, cartoons, action figures, endorsements, etc. It was endless, till it wasn't. ☺
I'm 1990 nobody could Touch This. Every body was singing this. I miss the 90's, Simpler times
He lived close to me in the Bay Area..his gate to his home said HAMMER TIME on it..everytime we passed it we’d start singing “can’t touch this” freakin hysterical 😭
MC Hammer was one of THE Hottest performers of the late 80s and early 90s, wildly popular and made Millions. Sadly he blew it all with bad investments and poor financial decisions. You couldn't touch this but the IRS did
This song took over the United States. Pepsi commercials followed. MC Hammer had an enormous "Posse," that traveled with him. He was a good guy and blew all his cash supporting everyone around him. This song and his dancing is just damn fun. He was a super positive guy, then he changed years later to try and be hard like other "Gangster," rappers and it just didnt work. He lives, or lived about 45 minutes away from me in Tracy Ca. Last I heard. This is an ICONIC song and video for sure.
Great reaction! If you like this you’ll probably like “Bust a move” by Young MC.
Thank you, MC, for this wonderful video to look back on. I'm 74 today and all I can say is, "Hammer Time!"
They are literally called MC Hammer pants 😂😂
You see why us old heads were so pissed at MTV for not playing videos anymore- wouldn’t you rather watch this than the 57th season ofTeen Moms???🤬🤬
Love your reaction. That was some dancing MC did. His clothes…..I loved them!!
This was so fun you made my day ,thank you!!We did are hgh school pom pom routine to this.2022 and still can't touch this.Do not have a dance off with Hammer won't end well.lol🤣! The pants legendary!
I love this song. I love the dancing and I love the high energy. Love it still !!!
Here's aittle snippet for you. The 90's Cincinnati Reds had one of the baddest relief corp ever. The Nasty Boys. When one of the relievers came to pitch, this is the song they played. The nasty boys struck out a ton of batters. Dibble threw the ball +100 mph in the 90's. I see you can't sit still. Lol
I the next songs by M C Hammer you should watch are "PRAY" and "Too Legit to Quit"
It's just too bad Hammer didn't have a better financial manager, and better friends. Everybody juiced him for his doe, and him making bad financial decisions. He could have had a longer career. #RIPHammercareer 😂
MC Hammer later known as just Hammer was my FAVORITE artist growing up, I had the pants and everything lol. he is now or at least was a pastor at a church in Ca.
Heyyyyy now…. Hehe people may joke about Hammer now but let me tell you each one of them was doing the Running man or the Roger rabbit to this damn song!!!! Lol 😂 I had a pair of parachute 🪂 pants. He was important for the time he was in. Much love ❤️
Stop... Hammer Time! Love it! Thanks for the laughs on this pre- holiday day.
When MC did his Melbourne tour
I was in a cafe and him and a few of his crew came in .
They were carrying on about how half their wardrobe didn't turn up.
So I cut in and suggested a mate of mine , to whip up some out fits .
Collin from Dudes in Barkley st St Kilda
Barstard , never offered any free tickets . . Lol
If I'm not mistaken, I think the Rams we're still in LA. Before they went to St. Louis when Hammer ruled the radio. Peace and love y'all 🤟
Check out "Young MC - Bust a Move" also from 1990. 100% banger!
That shuffle dance they're doing is a world wide thing now. Not saying he invented it. But this was the first I ever saw it. Look it up. Shuffle dance . Better yet look up on America's got talent.
Young MC..."Bust A Move"...not a Hammer suggestion but close 👊
I’m 24, I remember when my mom had my siblings and I sit and watch this music video for the first time. We couldn’t stop laughing at the pants😂🤣
Loved his dancing and his girls are so good, never seen anyone move like that
Ah I remember those days….. under every STOP sign some joker had written “hammer time”
Hammer was huge in the day, everybody liked him. He was military before his big break-and then minister after his success. Seems a good guy.
MC Hammer is actually a preacher today. He has been through it. Broke a few times for bad decisions and getting screwed over by people he should have never trusted.
Probably the last real burst of creativity before depressing grunge and musical bullshit set in...
Fun fact: The Oakland A's gear keeps showing up in the video because in the 70's during the A's World Series run (and most crazy clubhouse years) a young Stanley Burrell (MC Hammer) was the team's lockeroom kid (and owner Charlie Findley's eyes/ears for player gossip).
I don't know if you can still buy the pants. If you could, they would be labelled harem pants or parachute pants.
That was fun. You’re a joy to hang out with. Have you ever watched Vanilla Ice?
I remember when this song came out. (I'm old)They were called "harem" pants, and lots of the basketball players wore them. Most people I grew up with called them "hammer pants" though. Harem pants are also worn by Jasmine and Aladdin in the Disney movie Aladdin, but that came out a decade or so later.
this is when rap was just about having fun. man this makes me feel old. i was around 9 or so, so late 80's early 90's
Songs like this - my prerogative - that girl is poison - so many more - this is why you hardly seen anyone with a weight problem. They helped us burn every inch off
The is was one of my favorite cassette tape singles. I remember in grade school we ALL started wearing some form of the hammer pants. I was a 4ft tall pimp back then
This song singlehandedly kept me fit
my entire freshman year of college. 🤣
