Do you want to play it in the similar way? Here's my experience :) Originally, it's played by Percival band. Mikolaj Rybacki plays short-neck baglama saz. He plays solo as well as just accompaniment. You can buy the short neck saz. I've bought Thomann Concert Irish bouzouki. It's a bit more expensive comparing to theirs plain Thomann Irish bouzouki (which Strigon uses here). I'd recommend to spend a bit more and to buy the 'concert' option. Also, you can save up a bit and buy a version without a pickup. Actually, this bouzouki is made by Hora (Romanian manufacturer of guitars and folk instruments). Next thing you should consider is that this bouzouki may arrive not well tuned up. But overall mine is fine. The bridge is not fixed, so be careful when changing the strings. If it's moved from the right position, you need to adjust the scale. My scale wasn't adjusted well from the box. Also, there are two types of bouzouki: the first one uses octave tuning and the second one uses unison tuning. Strigon has the octave version. Mine is unison. I don't know what it depends on. If you want a specific one it's better to clarify this information while ordering. Then. Standard bouzouki tuning is GDAD. The lower two strings are tuned to G. Here, to play open strings and take care about the melody, Strigon drops G strings to D. It's a big difference, so you will have tonal issues and it won't sound great. The possible solution is to use 6th guitar strings. As it's tuned pretty low, it's fine. If you want to play a standard tuning, it's better to use standard string gauge. BUT pay attention to the strings you buy. There are two solutions for strings anchorage. There are ball end & loop end strings. Ball end strings are with a ball at the end of the string (like acoustic guitar ones). And there are different strings anchorage approaches for different instruments. This bouzouki supports LOOP-END strings. Don't try to put ball end strings to this. Consider this when buying regular irish bouzouki strings. BUT you can remove balls using simple cutters. If you remove balls, you have regular loop end. So you can even use guitar strings for your bouzouki. But try to follow string gauges which are used for irish bouzouki. SO you can buy guitar strings with bigger gauge and use them to tune G to D. It will sound amazing! If your bouzouki is tuned to unison, it's better to avoid 56' strings because they may hit each other on unison version. I put 50' and it's amazing. Overall, bouzouki sounds FREAKING AMAZING GUYS. I thought it's more like a toy comparing to my freaking big acoustic guitar. BUT IT SOUNDS SO FREAKING RICH, LOUD, BRIGHT AND FULL. Highly recommend. It's a serious instrument and you can play a lot of stuff. Also, it's VERY easy to play in the way Strigon does. Have a nice day! If you have any questions - feel free to ask.
Even many years after, you're the only one hitting the tone. I literally watch me coming back to this version when being in the mood. This is simply awesome and displays your mastery of the instrument.
+Lukasz Kapuscinski - Guitars & Dragons I bought this new one and it's really good for the prize ;) www.thomann.de/cz/thomann_irish_concert_bouzouki_b_stock_2.htm
I'm still a novice, so forgive my ignorance, but I must say I am tempted to find longer strings of correct gauge for this tuning, and try doubling them up on my ukulele... If only to dream of replicating such a beautiful instrument/play this song..... VERY SORELY TEMPTED I just might try it....
To trzeba ćwiczyć ucho i eksperymentować.
So regarding the tuning - If I get an 8 string greek bouzouki that's normally tuned from low to high: cc' - ff' - aa - d'd I would just need to tune the cc strings up to dd and the ff strings down to aa in order to play this, right ?
@@strigonband You're right, thanks for the reply. So I should go for an Irish bouzouki instead right ? That's normally tuned GDAE. So I just drop the G and E strings a bit in pitch and get DDAD. Thanks for the help !
@@MultiBadboy666 Yes that's how I found out this tuning. You have to change the G strings to harder gauge because if you tune it down from G to E it gets a bit sloppy.
@@strigonband Thanks a lot for the help and for getting me into the instrument, yo're awesome !. I've been playing your covers using a guitar tuned DADDAD and it's tons of fun. Can't wait to get my hands on the real deal ! Have a good one :D
Dear Strigon, thanks a lot for sharing your beautiful songs with us. I have one question, probably your are playing your bouzouki with the tuning ddad right? I was thinking to buy her also, but isnt it better to have a guitar with 10 strings? Than the tuning dadad would be possible and there would be the additional A-base line on top. Do you know what I mean? Doest that make sense? Or is it enough to have a bouzouki with 8-string with DDAD? Thanks a lot, greetings XXX
I also bought a bouzouki to play this kind of music. I suggest you to tune your instrument to DDAD. In GDAE, to my knowledge, it's impossible to have this kind of sound (dark/medievalish). It's more suited for Irish/Celtic music
@@papang5863 Another bouzouki player who covered this song (Barbora) also used DDAD so I think you are right (ruclips.net/video/eVeYGHH0-jY/видео.html&ab_channel=Barbora)
For the guitar players out there who really want to try this, if you tune your guitar to DADADD and just use the lowest two strings as open strings for the whole song and play what he's playing on the other four strings, you can manage to play this. Of course, it doesn't sound quite as good as a real bouzouki, but I tried it on an old kid's guitar and it was pretty fun to play.
Very nice man! Cool cover. Now for mortals with the guitar - you can play this on your guitar (it will sound different but it still sounds very cool). Guitar tuning - DDADAD. And look for the tutorial with the guitar, shouldn't be hard to find.

Just tune your guitar to DDADAD and u have the 'same' sound.
Sure, but does a guitar look as stylish? Does it?

It's a Saz (or Baglama) playing it, but the sound is similar to bouzouki ;)
