Simple awesome. My daughter and I just watched this together instead of reading a book. She giggled and sang the whole way through. This is a perfect example of how technology can be used for good instead of evil. Thank you!
I've been looking all over for this version. I saw this film a few times years ago at my elementary school back in the 80's & I could never remember when this film was made. But it has always been one of my favorites & I knew who sang this song, & the first time I heard this song. I even read the book. I also love Judy Collins' version on The Muppet Show.
When I was younger I watched this song in so many versions!!!!’ I love this song so much!!!!! This was my childhood!!!! It’s so funny!!!!! I’m 14 years old now and I still love this so much!!!!! This actually came out when I was 1 your old!!!!! It makes me laugh!!!😂😂😹😹
I just read the poem today and laughed so hard at "She dies of course" part, then searched it in youtube and going through the comment found people felt scared of what i found hilarious, strange.
The old lady dances in at the beginning of the video ~ LOL ~ I like that ~ My mother sang this to us when we were growing up ~ We thought it was funny & would laugh ~
Reminds me so much of that mad goat cartoon from "Sesame Street." And, I also cracked up listening to the horse's voice because he sounds so much like Mister Ed. It is also kind of hilarious that some of this song sounds a bit like the "Laurel And Hardy" theme ("she swallowed this animal to catch that animal").
As a child I don't remember being frighten by the song. just curious how she ate all the animals. more focus was on remembering the order of the animals as she ate them. fun. song. lol!
I'm a nineties kid who use to love this. Twenty years later I watch this and I'm like: why was I not disturbed by this and why did my parents let me watch this?
What a funny, silly trip down memory lane. We were always singing these type of delecious rhymes. All kids sing now is Money, Hoes n Clothes. Wasn't it great when kids were kids?
Nope! Came back to watch after a comment notification after nine years, and the pandemic is still raging in the second biggest wave with no end in sight!
Fly: voiced by Tom Kenny Spider:Voiced by Eric Bauza Bird: Voiced by Billy West Cat:Voiced by Mrs Girl Dog: Voiced by Nick John Goat: Voiced by Mel Blanc Pig: voiced by Tom Simon Cow: Voiced by Mrs Girl Horse: Also voiced by Eric Bauza And these are the animals that they voiced
Never heard of this. I guess this is one that Cartoon Network couldn't get for the show "O Canada." Shout out to everyone else here who grew up in the 90's.
Oh man, the poem is creepy enough, but then they add in that horse! We listen to five minutes of a soothing narrator singing over softly strummed guitar chords while watching silly animation, then BOOM, there's a freaky pitch-black horse with creepy yellow teeth speaking in a disturbingly deep and echo-y voice "She's dead, of course!" Not that I'm complaining, I think it's very healthy to scare young kids every once in a while, and it's certainly done well here!
To be honest, the bird looks like Chirp from "Peep and the Big Wide World" from a long time ago. Chirp is red with three lines on her head, but this bird is yellow with no lines on its head.
One of a great handful of short kids movies I remember fondly from like kindergarten-4th grade. If I find someone has posted "Glistening Song" on RUclips, I'll *really* be walking on air!
"i don't know why she swallowed the fly".... really? the cartoon makes it clear she didn't inspect her food properly, on top of which she was greedy and swallowed the whole bunch of grapes without chewing.
Fly: A Bug's Life Spider: Treasure Planet Bird: Melody Time Cat: The Aristocats Dog: Oliver & Company Goat: The Hunchback Of Notre Dame Pig: Saludos Amigos Cow: Home On The Range Horse: The Adventures Of Ichabod And Mr. Toad
+DrRugferdAzinteyer it is a metaphor for "bad choices" indeed, how small, easily resolvable mistakes early on are not best resolved by bigger, more stupid, and ever increasing mistakes later on. that covers all kinds of stupid decisions in life :)
***** glad i could help :) i see a lot of people doing it all the time, covering up years of small bad decisions with more and more bad decisions until everything comes crashing down around them. if only they could just accept that they "swallowed a fly" and have moved on with their lives without it costing their own lives... (suicide etc)
Wow u are right. I musta known this on a visceral level as a kid. Kids are amazing bc they pick up subconcious energy without letting their brain desensitize them
My husband watched this as a kid and now he plays it for our little girl , love it and she likes the guitar parts too
When I was in kindergarten, I was so freaking terrified of this. came here to conquer my fears in 7th grade and I am still hesitating.
Sad😢😢
"She's dead of course."
"She said Of course"
The horse is the only animated character to speak in this film.
Creepiest of all. 😂😂
**does a trollface smile**

At 19 my cousin reminded me of this, and I couldn’t help but tear up. This was our childhood!
"Wonderful, but I swallowed my gum."
"How very dumb to swallow your gum!"
I swallowed a fly yesterday and haven't been able to get this song out of my head! Perhaps I'll die...
Only 8 likes in 7 years ! Overly underrated
😂😂😂😂😂
Try swallowing a spider to get it out.
5:15 worlds first ever troll face

Same
Well greatly appreciated fellows!! Congratulations. Cool work dudes!
That fly is adorable.
I agree.
This is the CLASSIC version of this song. Goes well with the book. I'll use it to reinforce the fluency lesson I'm teaching today. Thanks!
Simple awesome. My daughter and I just watched this together instead of reading a book. She giggled and sang the whole way through. This is a perfect example of how technology can be used for good instead of evil. Thank you!

I also love Judy Collins' version on The Muppet Show.
It was made in 1964
I know an old lady who swallowed a Horse.
"She's DEAD, of course." *Grin*
WIN.

Im 15 I remember watching this at school in kindergarten almost every day
It came out in the 60s though?
@@karaatter They meant when it was posted on RUclips.
I'm 13, and I remember watching this a decade ago in 2013.
I just read the poem today and laughed so hard at "She dies of course" part, then searched it in youtube and going through the comment found people felt scared of what i found hilarious, strange.
Brilliant! I enjoyed this production so much. Thanks
If you are here in 2023, you are a legend!
I am!?
The old lady dances in at the beginning of the video ~ LOL ~ I like that ~

Me, my sister, and my Aunt would watch this video everytime she came to visit. It was great, this and *Charlie bit my finger*

Me too! It's one of my favorites!
As a child I don't remember being frighten by the song. just curious how she ate all the animals. more focus was on remembering the order of the animals as she ate them. fun. song. lol!
Man I liked that song! R.I.P Burl Ives =(
This is a food chain lol
I really like the animation here!
I'm a nineties kid who use to love this. Twenty years later I watch this and I'm like: why was I not disturbed by this and why did my parents let me watch this?
Because our parents were normal non snowflakes.
What a funny, silly trip down memory lane. We were always singing these type of delecious rhymes. All kids sing now is Money, Hoes n Clothes. Wasn't it great when kids were kids?
He Did The Same Work Like Peep and The Big Wide World (2004-2011)
Am I the only one watching this during the pandemic?😭💀
naw
Nope!
Came back to watch after a comment notification after nine years, and the pandemic is still raging in the second biggest wave with no end in sight!
makes me nostalgic...but it's quite morbid, isn't it? lol
Yes very much

sarahsmiles55
This is surreal humor, I went with it when I was younger
5:16 his smile💀
it’s fucking scary!
Looks like a troll face
Bro look at 5:03,the cow human feets😨😰😱😧😥!i think is more scary than the horse smile
My favorite Nursery rhyme as a kid :$
Haha! Saw this in kindergarten well over 25 years ago. Classic.
some people think she swolled a horse and caused her to die but there was a pig, a goat, a dog, a cat, a cow and a fly before that
Thanks for posting. I remember watching this cartoon in my early school days. We all laughed hysterically over the characters in the cartoon.
Great animation. I've never really got the logic of what the goat, Cow or horse are going to do to the other animals though!
Fly: voiced by Tom Kenny
Spider:Voiced by Eric Bauza
Bird: Voiced by Billy West
Cat:Voiced by Mrs Girl
Dog: Voiced by Nick John
Goat: Voiced by Mel Blanc
Pig: voiced by Tom Simon
Cow: Voiced by Mrs Girl
Horse: Also voiced by Eric Bauza
And these are the animals that they voiced
@Sock monkey and bunny cinema 2 to you and me i don’t know why the horse only speaks in this cartoon
1964 was a good year!!👌👌👌🔥🔥🔥✨✨✨
Aw I remember watching this when I was little but I’m only 15
Never heard of this. I guess this is one that Cartoon Network couldn't get for the show "O Canada." Shout out to everyone else here who grew up in the 90's.
I remember this from my 1st grade class in Germany. I wonder how many other kids from that class have come across it on youtube.
das haben wir heute in der schule gesungen

+Simon Hilsinger But of course. I'm a huge NC fanboy
Mad Hatter
Mad Hatter
Why does it scare Yong kids
Can put a link to it nostalgic critic episode That have it
This scared me as a kid, it scares me now. So much for "let me laugh at something silly I used to be scared of", I want to die.
Always love films from the NFBC
The cat reminds me of Tom from "Tom and Jerry" and Pete the Cat, because they're all blue with yellow eyes, but this cat acts more like Tom.
I know! That’s quite something, isn’t it?
Actually, Tom is gray.
@davidlearned352 Tom has gray fur in some appearances, and it's blue in other appearances.
In this version, I think the fly was swallowed by accident.😅
Of course, swallowing the horse 🐎 always kills the old lady.
To be honest, the bird looks like Chirp from "Peep and the Big Wide World" from a long time ago. Chirp is red with three lines on her head, but this bird is yellow with no lines on its head.
Whoa you’re right, it looks just like Chirp!
And the cat looks like Tom From peep and the big wide world
You’re all correct about that!
I remember watching this in grade 1 or 2!!
bro that horses smile is the only nightmare i remember as a kid
Great cartoon. Funny!
One of a great handful of short kids movies I remember fondly from like kindergarten-4th grade. If I find someone has posted "Glistening Song" on RUclips, I'll *really* be walking on air!
Haha, that is a GREAT idea! I could hardly even attempt it for laughing!
The bird looks like a yellow version of chirp from peep and the big wide world
They played this video everyday at the Royal Ontario Museum Camp every day
I remember this
In the pig part, the vocalist didn't finish. He just said, "She swallowed the pig to catch the goat."
That song is cute and funny.
it's wonderful and instructive
If I live to be 100, I’ll never forget the big snowstorm a couple of years ago.
“She’s dead… OF COURSE.” (proceeds to pull an exceedingly sus face that actually got the whole squad laughing)
That cat has Mr. Cheshire from Alice in Wonderland vibes
Classic!!!
There wasn't. This version would have put me to sleep before it started!
3:52 A dog is riding a goat.
"i don't know why she swallowed the fly".... really? the cartoon makes it clear she didn't inspect her food properly, on top of which she was greedy and swallowed the whole bunch of grapes without chewing.
This song is maybe why I’m a metalhead
I love the string bass accompaniment to the electric guitar. Nice music- even though I had to turn the volume WAY up. I can barely hear it.
Welcome to the modern origin of surreal humor
animation looks like the one on Sesame Street about a mad goat
Fly:
A Bug's Life
Spider:
Treasure Planet
Bird:
Melody Time
Cat:
The Aristocats
Dog:
Oliver & Company
Goat:
The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
Pig:
Saludos Amigos
Cow:
Home On The Range
Horse:
The Adventures Of Ichabod And Mr. Toad
OKAY, I seriously recommend you turn on closed captioning (automatic captions) and read along with the song. so funny
You are my favorite person
I think it's a metaphor for drug addiction
+DrRugferdAzinteyer
it is a metaphor for "bad choices" indeed, how small, easily resolvable mistakes early on are not best resolved by bigger, more stupid, and ever increasing mistakes later on. that covers all kinds of stupid decisions in life :)
man, now it seems so obvious but I never wouldve caught on to that if I wouldn't have read it. Cool.
+Dan TheOracle All of these years since hearing this song... and I never thought of it that way until now.

glad i could help :) i see a lot of people doing it all the time, covering up years of small bad decisions with more and more bad decisions until everything comes crashing down around them. if only they could just accept that they "swallowed a fly" and have moved on with their lives without it costing their own lives... Have you never eaten a fly by accident, whilst riding your bicycle?
SAME!!!
She never swallowed a pig in the books
I never heard of the pig bit either. The early 70's is when I remember this from.
So is this what Canada looks like????
Huh

Sung by Burl Ives (Sam the Snowman)! 🪰🕷🐦🐈🐕🐐🐖🐄🐎
V O R E
I could be wrong, but the animation looks similar too that of "Sesame Street's" film short about the goat who gets mad.
