Wow that’s a lot of money, I can’t imagine how you felt to get Trudy back to see she had been rifled through. Hope nothing of great importance was taken. Stay safe on those 6 lanes!
Thank you so much for detailing all the steps and costs of shipping your vehicle like that, very very informative! And gosh, that' s a hefty sum, but I am sure you will make it all so worth it and more, taking us on your American adventures!
Thanks Annabel - yep it was a big decision for sure ! But we will make the most of spending this money by filming and working hard to capture as many adventures and memories as we cross the USA - it is going to be so different and we are excited !! 🌺
I shipped Liverpool to Halifax Nova Scotia back in 2017. I had heard the horror stories of stuff going missing and damage from others at sea bridge meetings. I was so relieved that there were no signs of intrusion when I picked up at Halifax. They kept the van for a day extra than planned, so I assume they had a backlog in inspections. In any case all was tidy. My world nomad friends John and Sue however suffered a break in attempt with damage when shipping back from Australia. You are right, it's not the loss but more the feeling of personal intrusion that is worse. Yeah it's a lot of money for shipping but a lot of folks pay that sort of cash for a luxury cruise. I absolutely know which form of adventure I prefer!!!!
So good to have you and Trudy in the US and soon here in our area! You need to PM is your schedule and pass on your schedule! We got space here on our island for you! So excited to have you actually here! 🤙
Woo Hoo !! We too are excited xx I have put some info on the Tribe page - but I will try and create a schedule and post it on RUclips community ! Thanks for the idea and I will get on that soon xx M xx
Hi guys! First one to comment. I can see you have a blast with your lunch, oh yes the South is known to have the very best of dishes, I am happy for you and I hope you will be discovering all the beautiful places this country has to offer…We are blessed to have so much space her in the USA, everything looks big for a foreigner, that is how I felt when I came her 34 years ago…looking forward to your next videos…

We have been traveling in our rv for 7 years. Our biggest tip is when driving through big cities, Sunday mornings are the best times to avoid traffic. Have fun.
I hope every single test you run on Trudy goes well, and only minor adjustments and polish needs to be made! Welcome to the United States! Can't wait to try and see you around St. Louis, Missouri!
Absolutely - We really had the big decision of to ship or not to ship - but to rent / buy a vehicle here had its own complications and having everything you need already .... It seemed crazy to just leave our home to stand in a storage unit when she could come on the adventure too !! 🚐🙌🌷
Wow, that was quite a barbeque meal you all had. How wonderful that Laurie and Ben could meet up with you two and enjoy the day together. Well I am so relieved to see Trudy back in your hands. I was worried as to what might happen to her on the voyage over here. I hope there weren't any sticky fingers that made off with any of your things. Now, you two can hit the road and share those stories with us once again. Let the good times roll!
So good to see old friends and we really hope they will join us again as we laughed so much and get on so well !! Yes the new adventures have begun and new things to come !! xx
Delighted to see you navigated succesfully across the pond. The research you had to undertake must have been mighty. Thanks for all your valuable info and bon voyage. Welcome to the USA.
I was nearly crying when Marianne expressed how she felt about the mixed strong emotions. As you started driving I was thinking you have to be frogger.
Happy Face now you have Trudy! 😊 Looking forward to your travels. I feel your pain on collecting her though. When I picked up our car at Dagenham Docks after shipping it back from our 3 years living in Pakistan, HM Customs had wrecked it. Both wing mirrors completely gone, rear view mirror gone, all door panels ripped open, speedometer broken. I complained but they just shrugged their shoulders. I understand, we came back from a country where drug trafficking is rife, but I worked at the British Embassy! Have a great time in the USA. If you have time, visit the candy making stores on the waterfront in Savannah GA - delish! 😋
Hello Chris and Maryanne! Wow is Not Cheap to travel the way you guys do witg trudy. It is Nice to see you are already in your traveling Home. Can't wait for all the videos in the states to come. 😀🚐🌎🇺🇲
Mmmm food to start and my fav kind, BBQ 😋Chris you sold it to me as you always do 🤤😂. Wow that was one really big oak 🌲 !! So happy to see Trudy again ❤️but angry to see the horrible people had been inside her 🤬, it’s great even though it upsets you both so much you still manage to see light after darkness!!
Fun times ahead for you both!! Nice to see you enjoying the start of your trip...Charleston is a lovely city, as is Savannah...acually, all along the coast is lovely. By the way, did you ever see the tree in Bursa...it's the sister tree to the one you saw. It's huge, ancient and the branches are propped up in places. There's a nice tea garden under it. Have fun on your travels guys 💖
They didn't visit Bursa because it was marked red on Hayat Eve Sığar App. when they first left İstanbul, they avoided big cities, Bursa was one of them. I live in Bursa and I asked them specifically back then, so I remember :)
Hi Peter - they only insure the vehicle not the contents ... we locked all the expensive stuff in the boot - but the rest - clothes, food blender, etc gone !! Hey ho - we rebuild !!
4:34 you have some lovely friends! After watching you eating in Greece, I di think that the food would look nicer in something like the card plates you have or bamboo or something like that. That's just my personal opinion of course. But it's obviously good food.
Sorry I couldn't finish writing. Your videos are awesome I'm addicted to them. I've watched all your videos whilst you were in lockdown in Turkey. My parents are originally from there. 👍👍👍👍 Every time we go on holidays I put on 10 kg 😂😂😂
Hi Marriane and Chris enjoying your start in this American 🇺🇸❤️ adventure, looking forward to what comes next now that Trudy is back where she belongs. Sorry for the intrusion felt in Trudy's inspection , It must have left a sad but onwards and upwards you loving adventures.woohoo! Here we go! Love from Paul and fiana and kids back traveling Europe woohoo! ❤️❤️❤️❤️😙
Hello Marianne and Chris Just caught up in your US adventure Loving every moment Must have been quite disturbing to find that Trudi had been rummaged through so brutally Good Luck for the next adventure 🐝😂🌈🇬🇧

Ouchhhh, about 9K pounds!! Hello Ambassadors, Yet again very informative and delightful video from you guys. I am sorry Trudy🥺🥺 for not being treated well. Guys, I hope to see you soon. Remember that EVERYONE in the WORLD loves you🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷♥️♥️♥️. BE SAFE. SEE YOU SOON!
Oh how wonderfull reunited. Flippin U.S. Customs it the same as going through airports they just make you feel guilty about entering. Nice to have Wheels again and Trudy is so much more than just wheels.
Congratulations on getting Trudy !! It will be the only one of it’s kind in the U.S. If you have mechanical trouble I hope you can find parts. Otherwise you might have to send for parts from Europe. The closest van similar to yours is the Dodge Promaster , which is a newer version of your van . I don’t know how many parts are interchangeable. There was a Promaster delivery van at the big oak tree parking lot. Dodge dealers have a partnership with Fiat , and they would be able to tell you more.
Well I watched the following video first...and know what awaited you. Still cant get over the dishonesty and the inability for the shipping company to own up to the responsibility to recompense you for damages and loss. Anyway, onward and upward and more adventures to come. Have a great week. 🍷 👍 🇳🇿 🙋♀️ 🇳🇱
There is a monthly charge - and cost for text message (that you can buy in bulk) with no contract as you can cancel at anytime - we rest easier when we are away from Trudy knowing she is where we left her !! Marianne
That was really interesting. My parents did 12 months and 20k back in the early 90s with their van around the US, but because of the hassle getting the van into the US, they went from Southampton to Montreal instead. Much simpler (and cheaper). They returned from Savannah, which was an exciting trip. I'll have to dig out the video and photos of them getting their van onto that ship!!! 😱 Looking forward to seeing your travels.
Great that you have her back, looking forward to the American adventures! Drugs and suspicious documents, that's the reason you have things like the LPG monitor broken. They get paid to search every little crevice for these things but they don't get paid to fix them afterwards.
I spent a year travelling in America about twenty years ago. I bought a truck and bumper tow RV in Oregan and sold them a year later in Maryland. With hindsight, had I shipped my US truck and trailer back to the UK I could have made a lot more money for them selling them here in the UK - which would have made them effectively free for the year.
While in Charleston be sure an see Angel Oak. Angel Oak is a Southern live oak located in Angel Oak Park on Johns Island near Charleston, South Carolina. The tree is estimated to be 400-500 years old. It stands 66.5 ft tall, measures 28 ft in circumference, and produces shade that covers 17,200 square feet. Its longest branch distance is 187 ft in length.
Did you ever consider purchasing a preowned RV in The States ? I think you can find real bargains there . A vehicle with left hand steering must be safer too . Anyhoo it’s too late noo ! Looking forward to your adventures .
So elated Trudy is safe & sound in the US, but also quite devastated she's been pilfered somewhere along the way. 😞😞 Sad to say it's common whatever country one is going from or to (from what I've heard), and Trudy has fared better than other RUclipsrs' vehicles traveling to other places, but so sad it happened to you two coming to my country. But focused on the positive, she is on US soil, & no more playing real-life Frogger!! ❤️❤️😎👍xx
LOL - yep and we have some serious distances to cover !! We are excited to share and already finding some incredible things to share !! Ersel told us to visit the keys ... and we are nearly there !! woo hoo xx
Getting stuff stolen whilst shipping your van is more common than you think. We shipped RV from the USA to the UK back in 2005, they rifled through the van then and took various things. The shipping companies should be held responsible, but they just tell you to claim on your marine insurance.
I watch your videos. You must come to South Africa. We have mountains. Drakensberg. We having Addo Elephant park. We have beautiful places on the Garden route
Congratulations Trudy, Chris, and Marianne. We are sorry you were violated by those naughty customs agents. All Americans are not like that ;) If you guys ever want to see Yellowstone or Teton National park. I have some mad expert touring skills of that area and ways to avoid crowds whilst seeing animals and geysers. Just a thought. I am sure your already scheduled, but I thought I would offer that.
Hi - about one year - yes it is one way - we will either ship back or ship West - we have everything in our home that we need as we have been living full time for 4 years so leaving it to sit somewhere in a lock up and then buying / renting one for us is not something we would consider 👍
Wow, to be fair, I was expecting that to cosy much more than £8.5k: for 6mths travel, that's not bad really! Thanks for sharing all the info, I'll be interested to see how you go shipping to Oz (in due time of course!!). Travel safe guys, and have fun!!
Hi - yes it seems expensive - but the rental of a vehicle with tax, insurance etc is a minimum 5 times that cost and we are travelling for one year !! So absolutely not possible for us to afford that 👍🌺
I did ask the shipping company and they said that if it is fitted and approved by the standard agency then it is allowed ! But maybe they changed the rules whilst she was being shipped ? 🤔
Now I really have to say, how can you eat BBQ without slaw? It's a sacrilege! :). I loved, loved, loved the oak!!! The leaves look different bc the species is a Live Oak (of course that doesn't explain why the leaves look different, does it?! Oh well.). You guys carrying on in the back seat - thanks for the morning laugh!
As the one that took them there I totally understand and I just want to say I said to my wife…”we have to have slaw too” and she said we have enough so I totally get you when you say we needed slaw! 🐖 🥬
@@benjaminj6413 I mean, I definitely give you points for the collards, but that macaroni and cheese was a definite interloper. Every person south of the Mason-Dixon knows that you can't eat BBQ without slaw. Intolerable. I think it's even written in the Constitution somewhere, though I have no idea what the penalty is. (Maybe your wife was wisely foreseeing her gastronomic issues in the back seat when she overrode the slaw vote). :)
Thank goodness she said stop !! I am still full and thank you for letting me order the Mac n Cheese as it is still the best Mac n Cheese I have EVER tasted !! Finally at 54 I have found the best Mac n Cheese !! Woo Hoo xx Love you guys xx
@@TREADtheglobe In that case, the slaw faux pas can be excused! LOL. Your friends sound fun, Marianne, and you guys together are a dangerous combination!
Now you got a few more years of driving (in the USA). Had to laugh at the oldie comment. For sure. Every time we go overseas, medical is a big thing to take care of
Love Marian's top .... The Beloved - Blissed Out ......1990 ................... "Well its all right now. Dont you worry bout a thing" !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kiss both of you ...................... AND PLEASE PRAY FOR UKRAINE....
Well, works out to 700 pounds a month. Cheaper than renting places. Do you have to pay just as much to ship her back? And, we spent about that for a 3wk vacation in Ireland and England.
As we are planning to drive around the world (ok it seems that this is not going to happen now - we thought that we would not have to get back - just forwards !!) ......
Great video! Question, how did you all fit back in the car after the big BBQ lunch? I would reckon the harbor police, customs, drug agencies at both ends of the journey searched Trudy. When they remove things they typically don't put them back the same way...sorry!
I would love to travel around the world or at least Turkya and the rest of Europe in a camper but i am so afraid that it is too late. I am no good with hard work like changing a tyre.
£8,400 to ship an old UK van to the States doesn't look to be a very wise investment IMO, plus the added cost of welding work etc carried out in the UK to get it through its MOT. Buying a second hand RV in the States may have been better PLUS having the advantage of a left hand drive vehicle. Anyway, easy to be wise after the event I suppose. Good luck for your travels in the States, Canada and Mexico.
Re. your Visa. How long out of the USA before you can get back in? The reason I ask is some time ago I was looking at touring the US and posed this Visa question on a US RV forum and an American poster said "its easy, you just cross the Mexican or Canadian border for a day, then come back to the US for another 6 month". But then other Americans said that was incorrect and I'd end up getting deported if I was caught. So how long do you have to stay out of US? I'm looking forward to your road trip.....especially if you go off the beaten track and drive through some time warp towns with old fashioned diners!
We have been informed that 3 weeks is enough but we will probably be out a bit longer than that - yes the USA is massive and we will be starting here in the more touristy busy places and then in a few weeks heading west to the bigger / more open spaces 👍
@@TREADtheglobe Thanks for the reply. That meat looked damn good but its easy to pile on the pounds there I think! Prices would be good to hear about....as you know fuel has gone to silly price per litre here now and I know Americans are moaning their fuel has increased but it's still lots cheaper than UK prices.
If you read the regulations it says you have to be out of the USA for “a reasonable time” that will be determined by the person on duty at the customs point. I believe if you are honest and friendly with them, as a rule they have no wish to spoil a holiday! You will get your 180 days on the way back in.
Hello am glad to see you made it to Charleston. If you decide to come our way to Michigan and visit Mackinaw Island or the Upper Peninsula of Michigan email us. We live on Lake Michigan just South of Silver Lake Sand Dunes.
So the damage to any devices or components is deemed perfectly acceptable by customs, or do the shipping company see this as a complete disregard and any damage or losses are covered here? Now if I was to ship a campervan and lock any expensive devices or equipment in a cabinet, are they basically saying they will break in to it for whatever reason or is locked compartments off limits unless they have a valid reason? I'm struggling to understand if this is standard protocol or rogue employees?
We have certainly learned from this experience - we will in future put a board behind the seats and seal off the whole of the living area - this way it will be impossible to enter !!
I actually really like Mary Anne's singing voice. It fits musical theater quite nicely.

Ersel told us to visit the keys ... and we are nearly there !! woo hoo xx
Reunited, who-hoo!! Xx
Absolutely my friend - sending love from us xx
Getting stuff stolen whilst shipping your van is more common than you think. We shipped RV from the USA to the UK back in 2005, they rifled through the van then and took various things. The shipping companies should be held responsible, but they just tell you to claim on your marine insurance.
I watch your videos. You must come to South Africa. We have mountains. Drakensberg. We having Addo Elephant park. We have beautiful places on the Garden route
What a beautiful tree! Sagging slightly with age...as we all are 😆.
I really look forward to your great videos ♥️.
Thanks so much! 😊
Wow. 8400 is a lot of money. But anyway you got it back. Congrats and bon voyage!..
Shipped my '67 Galaxie 500 from Jacksonville all the way through the far east to Southampton and then drove it back with the lights on max. oops
Thank you Marcia - DM me and I will add you to the friends of Tread private map - if we can that would be awesome 🌺
At 10:43, we’d all love a bit of Mexican on the day you get Trudy back, cos it’s nacho average day 😆
Good video - and the cost is one way? How long are you staying for?
Hi - about one year - yes it is one way - we will either ship back or ship West - we have everything in our home that we need as we have been living full time for 4 years so leaving it to sit somewhere in a lock up and then buying / renting one for us is not something we would consider 👍
Wow, to be fair, I was expecting that to cosy much more than £8.5k: for 6mths travel, that's not bad really! Thanks for sharing all the info, I'll be interested to see how you go shipping to Oz (in due time of course!!). Travel safe guys, and have fun!!
What I'm wondering is: I understand you want to feel at home, but what would it be like to rent a van in America at all this expense? Safe travels ✨💫🎈
Hi - yes it seems expensive - but the rental of a vehicle with tax, insurance etc is a minimum 5 times that cost and we are travelling for one year !! So absolutely not possible for us to afford that 👍🌺
The fire extinguisher was removed by the shipping company. It’s Hazmat and not allowed onboard.
I did ask the shipping company and they said that if it is fitted and approved by the standard agency then it is allowed ! But maybe they changed the rules whilst she was being shipped ? 🤔
4:44 I thought it was just me being feeble and not being able to digest them. I will try to cook them like that
They were really delicious !!
Congratulation’s
A very lovely and clever couple.
Looks delish😋
Now you got a few more years of driving (in the USA). Had to laugh at the oldie comment. For sure. Every time we go overseas, medical is a big thing to take care of
Love Marian's top .... The Beloved - Blissed Out ......1990 ................... "Well its all right now. Dont you worry bout a thing" !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kiss both of you ...................... AND PLEASE PRAY FOR UKRAINE....
Perhaps the fire extinguisher was not permitted in the US? I don't know...
I hope you come to New Orleans,La!!!!
Still think you need to look at increasing turbo boost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL - if I find one !!
Great video! Question, how did you all fit back in the car after the big BBQ lunch? I would reckon the harbor police, customs, drug agencies at both ends of the journey searched Trudy. When they remove things they typically don't put them back the same way...sorry!
Thanks for information.
best regards.
Harika bir video 🥰🤙 enerjiniz harika
I wonder how your route(s) is/are gonna be!
It is always tricky to plan too far in advance .... but we will be dipping into Florida (as we are almost there) then heading west !
Gözünüz aydın,sonunda Trudy e kavüştunuz.Bizim iöin Amerika yı yeniden keşfedin lütfen.
Thank you - we are excited to find different places to show 🌷
Hello am glad to see you made it to Charleston.
Apparently there is no Ersel in the US
I thought you'd shipped your van from Turkey?
No the last video in Turkey we showed putting her on a ship and then we was at the garage for 2+ weeks and we fitted a new fridge in the UK 👍
