@@DNBliQUidFUNKpretty sure I'm not confusing the two. Over half the population can be above/below average because an average can be skewed by outliers. James is assuming a normal distribution. Is average mean or median? The mean (average) of a data set is found by adding all numbers in the data set and then dividing by the number of values in the set. The median is the middle value when a data set is ordered from least to greatest. The mode is the number that occurs most often in a data set. Created by Sal Khan.
The below average statistic was really, really mean, funny but mean. Not everyone understands statistics or numbers in general. I never patronised or bullied people below senior management level when I was an auditor. I simply asked questions. I saved my 'power' for those who were paid well and were meant to understand and have broad shoulders. Be kind.
1:13 he is just wrong on this call. It isn't true that 50% is necessarily below avg intelligence. The maths doesn't work this way. Proof if you have 10 people, and you can multiply by any figure, if one person has IQ of 200, 4 150 and 1 140, then 50 aren't below the mean avg.
To be fair james he was trying to say where did you get that statistic not trying to say the percentage difference just the bit about those that are below intelligence. Love your book and shows
The fact that nobody notices James first argument makes no sense worries me. The caller states the UK is an intelligent country, to which James replies "half the population is below average intelligence, so it can't be an intelligent country". Imagine I took every Olympic sprinter and said "half of these sprinters are below average speed within this group, so they can't be that fast". It makes literally no sense. Instead everyone in the comments laughs at the caller saying he is the one below average intelligence. By James logic, every country is equally as smart, because they all have half their populations above average intelligence and half below. Guy is clueless and clearly most the listeners are as well.
There's a difference between a sample size of the most elite 8 and a sample size of tens of millions. The average won't be at exactly 50%, but the uk is not smarter than other countries o
He's actually wrong about half the population being below average intelligence as that would only work if every individual had different levels of intelligence at equal intervals between people
Many more than half of people are below average income, so the same could be true of intelligence. The mean of a distribution is not always its median. This is a common mistake and one James is repeating here.
Is the IQ of the citizens of a country normally distributed? If it is than James is right, if not, than James is wrong. He sounds very confident, but I am not sure if he knows if IQ is normally distributed.
Hi James Your maths was actually wrong. The average number of people is 50 but their intelligence could be higher or lower. If 100 people took a test and 70 achieved 70% in the test while 30 got 30% the average (Mean) intelligence rate would be 58% The median ( middle) number of people is 50 The Mode ( most common) of intelligence is 70% Your mixing up your sums mate. Why isn’t the background blue James?? It deeply upset me to see you that way
It's not a statistic it's basic maths.
noooo not that ridoncolous average call again. i really want someone to explain the difference between median and mean to james
Well he is always right.
It was you mr
Am I crazy? Didn't James confuse median and average yet nobody seems to notice?
Median is an average. You're confusing mean and average
Be kind.
The London Labour echo chamber at LBC is always a laugh!😂😂😂
That farmer…
1:13 he is just wrong on this call. It isn't true that 50% is necessarily below avg intelligence. The maths doesn't work this way. Proof if you have 10 people, and you can multiply by any figure, if one person has IQ of 200, 4 150 and 1 140, then 50 aren't below the mean avg.
Gary Barlow squeaky clean??? What about the £5 Million tax dodge??? Dear me.
To be fair james he was trying to say where did you get that statistic not trying to say the percentage difference just the bit about those that are below intelligence. Love your book and shows
JOB's best bits fit in under 7 minutes. I don't think he's that bad.
Kiddis finest xo
He's actually wrong about half the population being below average intelligence as that would only work if every individual had different levels of intelligence at equal intervals between people
Where’s the interview with Blair? Where you discuss censorship of platforms that allow freedom of speech.
Yeah, but hate speech and hurty words the establishment don't like should be banned 😂😂
Scary isn't it...
James left X because people were challenging his nonsense amd because he didn't like it he began claiming it was toxic. His ego is astronomical.
Below average intelligence could still mean very intelligent. The caller should closed Obrien with that.
Many more than half of people are below average income, so the same could be true of intelligence. The mean of a distribution is not always its median. This is a common mistake and one James is repeating here.
So they are BOTH wrong ?
Is the IQ of the citizens of a country normally distributed? If it is than James is right, if not, than James is wrong. He sounds very confident, but I am not sure if he knows if IQ is normally distributed.
I think 49% is being generous 😒
Strictly speaking the median is exactly half of the population below and half above, not average. But I'm nitpicking.
That first one is a pretty pointless observation.
Comedy gold. The bellow average call still takes the cake.
Hi James
Your maths was actually wrong. The average number of people is 50 but their intelligence could be higher or lower.
If 100 people took a test and 70 achieved 70% in the test while 30 got 30% the average (Mean) intelligence rate would be 58%
The median ( middle) number of people is 50
The Mode ( most common) of intelligence is 70%
Your mixing up your sums mate.
Love the show ❤
Stop it. His loyal listeners will implode.
The left is doing a retreat like James hairline
Cheers for these clips James! It would be great to call into your show one day and have a chat in the future 😊
James O'Brien is a complete Dunce 😂 Anyone who writes a book on how to be always right has got some serious issues and needs to exit his echo chamber and smell the coffee
Well he isn’t a dunce, now is he?
@Tonkers77 yes,a complete woke dunce to most unless you're a sycophant 😂
How can someone who makes a living taking to people from across the county possibly be in an echo chamber? Or do you mean everyone you disagree with is in an echo chamber?
i mean i guess it depends on whether on whether the average means 'mean', 'median' or something else, but yes, it pretty much 'says on the tin' (for lack of a better term) that 50% are going to be ubder the 50th percentile.
"Best bits"?
