  • In today's work on the daily driver 2000 Cadillac Deville with the Northstar, it's time to fix the leaky power steering pump so that it turns like it's supposed to. The power steering pump on these cars is pretty easy to do with some basic tools. The only special tool needed is the power steering pump pulley puller. You can get one at your local parts store or here from Amazon: amzn.to/3rpuApR . While you're in there, it's a great time to change off the serpentine belt. If the pump has been leaking the belt is probably soaked with oil and is a good idea to change anyways. The belt tensioner tool can also be found here: amzn.to/3T9rvX5 . This is an easy job that really doesn't take that long to do.

    Excellent replacement, thank you because I'm gonna save a ton doing this pump job at home.👍

      The pump is easy, the high pressure line is an absolute pain if you ever need to replace it!

      @@SnowFamilyRacing I hear ya, I just checked my fluid and it's below low. It's super cold morning's that cause a loud noise from the pump and slight turns. After she's warmed up, it's all good. It's my fluid probably. Thank you Sir for you video.

    I have a 2000 Cadillac Seville SLS and the power steering pump from just watching your video. That's what you had showed me. Mine is wobbling with the belt a little bit. Not a lot. Not a little bit. Does that mean it's damaged?

    • @SnowFamilyRacing
      @SnowFamilyRacing  5 месяцев назад

      Possibly. Figure out where it's loose, like the mounting bracket, and tighten them as necessary. If the pulley is loose or the shaft is bent, then it may be time to replace it. It's been a minute since I've looked at it, I thought the pulley was pressed on.

    Where did you get a replacement power steering pump you could depend on?
    Did you flush the power steering lines before installing?

      Rockauto is where this came from. I did not flush the lines, replaced bled the system.

    On your transmission we’re is your level on cold start? I noticed that these transmission are a slup transmission? Or the transmission fluid doesn’t show until you warm it up ? After I replace the transaxle I guess the person working on it over filled it , after a lot of research I found out that the transmission fluid will go back into the transmission until warmed up then I get a reading? Any help? Thanks for sharing your videos on the Cadillac!

      These are considered a "Dry Sump" system, where fluid is held in a reservoir off to the side and not solely in the bottom of the pan like the TH350, 400, 700R4, 4L60 and 4L80 for example. Usually the the fluid level has registered on the dipstick when it's cold for me and the difference is about 3/8 inch on the dipstick from cold to warm. The sad thing is that when my dad drove the a few days after I did the power steering pump, it suffered the notorious Northstar head gasket issue. Not a job I'm keen to handle. Head gaskets on Classic V8's, I'll do those all day long. This has some nuances and I may take this to a friends shop that does these pretty regularly.

      I was talking with a friend of mine that owns a shop. I asked about the best way to do the head gasket job. The best way is to drop the entire front subframe. It's also about 22 hours labor to do the job plus any machine work time and costs. To hire the job out is around $5-6000 depending on what else is found like timing Chains and whatnot. Head gasket on a small or big Chevy or the Riviera I'm working with is no big deal, this has a lot more moving parts and things to get right.

      I have not been around those years of DTS. The Northstar and it's accessories are very similar across all of the Cadillac's. I would be willing to guess that this is probably very similar to do on a DTS. Take my video, and go take a look at the car and see how things look and see if things pretty much look the same.

    Where did you get the new pump?!?! I've bought 2 that say they fit the 2000 deville and neither of them fit the bracket to go back on the car

      I know that the mounting bracket can be a little funny at times. I got one from rockauto.com. Here's a link to one like I used. www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/cadillac,2000,deville,4.6l+v8,1361393,steering,power+steering+pump,7380
