You guys are super underrated. I’ve gotten more practical and useful exercises for the rings for beginners in this video than any other video on RUclips
Hi Tim /Jacko ive just setup a pair of rings guys on my modified gym , i took apart a full gym housing and added a speedball platform , heavy bag and also a bar from which i can hang my rings ... ive not long started so im practising but im finding its all going well i seem to be getting stronger in my arms and enjoying the new rings workout ..i tend to do a workout on a tuesday and a thursday using fitbeast resistance bands (which are working very well instead of weights ) and the rings and then a heavy bag session on a sunday ....so i will keep watching your videos and hopefully progress further . thanks guys
Careful, you might never go back... it's super addictive. Jacko and I are testament to that. No upper body 'weights' based training for over 3 years now. Just calisthenics. Tim
Great introduction to rings. With all the gyms closing due to covid I was looking for a good at home workout without having to invest in a bunch of equipment. With just a couple of these rings and tie down straps I can get a full upper body workout in my garage. Using the beginner 1 and 2 videos I have put together a nice 1 hour workout. Has been a great supplement to my tri training as the added core strength has really benefitted my swim portion. Thanks.
Good instruction, thanks. I wish I'd been introduced to rings and calisthenics 30 years ago! Much more effective than weight training. Also very time efficient and convenient than gym memberships.
I love the barbell, but I no longer have a gym membership. I bought a pair of rings and used them for the first time this morning. I miss the simplicity of the barbell, but I love the variety of the rings.
Was gonna post in to see if you would be going through more ring exercises other than how to pull on holiday on your blog. This made my day, thanks guys.
Hey Sergio! Thanks for the comment. Depending on your lifestyle, goals and fitness level we could recommend many things. However, the best direction I can point you is to our Handstand E-book, which provides instructional videos for exercises, and also outlines training protocol. Visit www.schoolofcalisthenics.com to check it out. I'm pretty sure it'll help! Enjoy the Calisthenics Journey! Seth
Hi Guys. Firstly, Big Thanks! For the exceptional content of your class vids. Secondly, if I might, I'm stumbling a bit, with the reverse fly. With regard to the height of the rings with this movement, what would the proper height be for a 182cm tall guy? I have tried various adjustments but it doesn't feel right...in the video demo , you mention a "T" position, I can't mange to get my arms into the parallel- horizontal position as in the vid? I'm referring to the " to cross bar of a "T". So I must be doing the movement wrong?! Any tips would be massively appreciated!
Brilliant please do more vid's on Rings, I just got some last week, only exercise I've been doing at moment is the static holds only just recently managed to hold for 30 seconds.
Would be great to add a programme to aim to for each video e.g. 3 rounds of 10 to 15 ring rows before moving on to the next thing so know whats a good target to go for
This is really good lesson, I hope we can see more about rings. Also I have couple question: How can we improve our strength endurance? What do you suggest for imbalance body, how can we fix it?
Hi, thanks for the message. Strength endurance put simply is about doing more reps. A good way to do this is to superset exercises. For example ring pull ups followed immediately by ring bodyweight rows. Something hard followed by an easier progression. Imbalances and asymmetry can be tricky and it depends on where you feel it lies, chest and back maybe or something else?
Thank you, now I know I am on the right way to improve my strength endurance. My imbalances is my hole right side, I don't know why but my leg, back, chest, arms all of it. I really do exercises equally each side and it better than before, for example, I was able to do fully controlled pistol squat with my left leg but I couldn't that good with my right leg, but right know it is better.
It's a tough one to give you any detail on without seeing you in person. A simple method we use in session when there is amn imbalance is to let the weka side the lead the strong. By that I mean if you can 5 reps on the left but 10 on the right, you do 5 on both sides. It might be that you have some biomechanical stuff going on or some movement compensations that need sorting so it would be a good idea to seek out a physio or trainer and get a full movement assessment. Tim
In the archer pull-up, is the goal to do a pull up with one arm whilst at the same time bring the other arm out to the side, or first do a pull-up and *then* bring one arm out to the side? Watching the video carefully it seems it's a bit of both.. what's the ideal?
Excellent vid boys.im a former weightlifter, and as I've gotten older I have found rings.and I'm impressed.im a 130 kg man doing /some/of this stuff......and it's working.im strong,but a new dimension of strength, if that makes sense?I wish........f*ck it I wish I had found these yrs ago!!!thanks lads,good vid.
Thanks for the great video! I have followed those workout for a few times. It's really effective except that i feel some stress in my neck. Is that normal? if not, any tips to tackle the issue?
Hey glad you like the video and its helping. It could be that you're reaching forward with the neck into whats called a forward head posture. That can put some extra stress on the neck. Try to keep the chin tucked so that the neck stays in a neutral position. If the pain doesn't go away you should seek advise from doctor or physio. Hope that helps? - Jacko
QA : Hey guys. I've a question about Rings Support Hold at RTO position. When I try to do RTO support hold on rings top of my forearms touch to the rings. My body doesn't touch straps or my hands doesn't touch my body, just my forearms in contact with rings . Is it the correct form or should I try to avoid any contact with rings other than my grip. Thanks in advance.
Hi, thanks for the message and good question. To be honest it is not something that we worry about too much for the simple reason that we are not going to the Olympics. The purest gymasts would probably say it shouldn't touch so if that's the route you want to go down with your training it's something to focus on. For Jacko and I we are generally training for a number of things and that means we have limited time. At the stage we are at we're not too concerned about drilling down to the minutia of things like this as to be honest it's more fun to play around with other exercises and movements. When team GB get in touch about Toyko 2020 I'll maybe think differently. :o) Hope that helps. Tim
Thanks for the answer Tim! I think I am not going to focus on that right now too as you've said since I've got a lot exercises to progress on. Maybe I will consider focusing on not touching my forearms when I exhaust all the previous progressions like getting comfortable with 90 degree RTO position. Thanks again and keep up the good work guys.

If, like me, you've never done rings before you will soon realise just how quickly the rings will expose you for the *weakling* that you really are
I thought i was intermediately fit. But those things proven me wrong.
