Fun fact, Hideki Kamiya the creator of Devil May Cry and Bayonetta was told by SEGA to have her glasses removed. Kamiya felt this was wrong for her design as the glasses added a look of sophistication that no other female lead has in gaming. Kamiya then proceeded to give every character in the first Bayonetta game some sort of Eyewear just to say "Fuck you" to SEGA.
There was also another thing where he had a heart to heart with some one on the team who said her without her glasses would be worse than her without panties. Kamiya basically said that guy understood Bayo better than him.
The fact that Bayonetta is one of the most historically accurate depictions of witches I have seen is hilarious to me considering how extravagant she can be.

Bayonetta is really one of the best series ever, so excited for the third. And their cover of fly me to the moon is so good. For some lore coverage basically there is hell and heaven, hell is all the demons you see while heaven is the weird white and gold being your see, angels. So technically bayonetta is "the bad guy" even though the angels are more "for the greater good" then "good for the individuals" Humans cant see angels and devils. They were fighting on the plane a bunch because its a big part of the massive opening sequence. Also why bayonetta gets naked is cause her clothes are her hair, and she uses her hair to cast spells, like open portals for demons.

Her powers let her transform into animals, use various weapons, guns, etc. The series has a lot of similarities to Devil May Cry that you already pointed out and they reference a Legendary Dark Knight (Sparda) in its history, but that doesn't mean they're in the same universe. The lore is pretty confusing if you don't watch the story or play the games, but it involves time travel, alternate dimensions, and Bayonetta's family and clan relations. In Bayonetta 1, all the enemies are angels aligned with the Lumen Sages. These angels are based on creatures from different mythologies that serve the gods while the Judeo-Christian ones are based on biblically accurate angels. They're also named after the Cardinal Virtues rather than deadly sins. The first boss in Bayonetta 1 - you can see it in this trailer - is a giant floating cherub head with two dragons sticking out of it, eagle wings, massive claws, and a crown which is based on a description in Genesis of the cherubs outside the Garden of Eden which is a far cry from the cute angels we're used to in pop culture - there is a reason why they say "be not afraid." The girl, Jean, is Bayonetta's friend turned rival then back to a friend who's essentially her Vergil if we're sticking to the DMC comparison. Their relationship is more or less the same as Dante and Vergil, except they become allies as you can see in this trailer.

Bayonetta is Definitely a Wild Card, and we Love her for it And what's crazy about her isn't just her 4 guns but also her Hair, her cloths are actually her hair, and she uses it to summon those monsters you saw and explaining why she looses her clothing when she does so because all that hair is going to the portal to control those monsters

Bayonetta 2 is without a doubt the best game that ever came out on the Wii U. It is just absolutely perfect in every single way imaginable. I'm beyond excited for the third game to come out this year.
The attacks in game you saw are technics called Torture Attacks and she uses them when her magic meter is full there references to how Witches died. The Angels as you see are monsters in shape and there goal is to fill the world with there Light while demons....are just demons The world in game was split in 3 realms Light/Heaven/Paradiso Dark/Hell/Inferno And last Chaos/Earth/Human world And finally the in-between bridge Purgatorio or Purgatory
I totally suggest reacting to the story of bayo 1 and 2 like cinematic and such. It'll make much more sence. Also her clothes are made of her hair and she uses her hair for some of her summons hence why she looses her clothing👍 If you decide to watch the story a good person to watch is yoshesque she has a full playlist of the bayo story at pure platinum level.
Bayo is one of the best female characters out there (at least of the modern age). She's sexy, knows it, and uses it while also being intelligent, loyal, and just badass. Everything she does she does on her terms no one else's.
So the reason they didn't focus much on explaining the backstory is probably because it's the second game! Whenever you get around to the first games trailers, I'm sure you'll be a bit more caught up! Also regarding Bayonetta and Jeanne >"friend or girlfriend" While it's not explicitly stated it is implied lol the creator Hideki Kamiya(same guy who made DMC) has certainly nudged at it The Bayonetta series is phenomenal! A definite recommend! You should definitely watch the cutscenes for Bayo 1 and 2! They should give you the whole story while being extremely fun. That's how I got into the series!
Nice! Finally! You guys should definitely check out the cutscenes for this game. Either just Bayonetta scenes or the whole game as its own thing. Platinum has a super cool style of games that I really enjoy; one of my favourite games (by Platinum and in general) is a game called Astral Chain, which has a similar combat system as Bayonetta. You should definitely check out the 5 trailers for Astral Chain, it has a super interesting and compelling story, cool cyberpunk aesthetics, awesome music and atmosphere and very good voice acting and characters!
Bayonetta 2 is a very complimentary game to 1, they essentially form a single story, but what is interesting is that 2 serves as both a sequel and a prequel, creating a perfect loop.
Fun fact is that the design of many of the angels in Bayonetta games... are actually fairly close to how they really were supposed to look according to biblical descriptions and whatnot. And yes, that also means they looked pretty effed up. The human-like angels you're all so familiar with are considered to on the lower end of the angel ranking scale. Basically the more f***ed up an angel looks, the higher its rank is.
So a bit of lore context, you two got many things right just from the few lines in the trailers. Yes bayonetta is a witch an umbran witch (the umbra witches worship the demons of inferno and the moon) and so is her girlfriend jeanne, Bethany was correct bayonetta in this game is in fact on a mission to save jeanne from inferno the place where dead witches get dragged to so that they will suffer for eternity, Ken pointed out that her outfit was sorta like venom and he is half right her outfit is her hair and the reason why it goes away when she is summoning demons is because for bayonetta to do that she also uses her hair to summon portals or wicked weaves as they are called. The masked enemy is named balder and I don't want to go in too much depth about him since he is a very interesting character all that I will say is that he is a lumen sage the opposite clan of the umbra witches (they worship the angles of Paradiso and the sun). If you want to learn more about the lore of bayonetta I would totally recommend checking out the videos "the lore of bayonetta" the first and the second one in tiptoe the tank those two videos are really detailed and very informative. Not spending much time on the backstory mostly comes down to this being the second game. Most of the trailers expect you to know these things.. or not care for them anyway^^ To me it's surprising to see how much actual story content of the second game they show in these trailers. If you know the world and the story of the first one, you know all the characters except for the Lumen sage she fights and the boy she meets in hell.
Bayonetta 2 is one of my favourite games ever. In terms of the Dante similarity it's because both games were made by the same guy but he wasn't allowed make more devil may cry games so he made bayonetta instead. Also there's a bayonetta movie called bloody fate that's really worth checking out

Finally! I'm glad you guys got around to this series. It's so over-the-top and ridiculous, IMO the gameplay is more fun and fluid than DMC. A small bit of info: Bayonetta has several pacts with demons, and she uses her hair as a conduit to summon the demons (hence turning naked).

Yes she is a witch and Jeanne (long hair) is her best friend. Bayonetta (Cereza is her real name) is from a clan called The Umbra Witches, they are enemies of the Lumen Sages, like demons against angels. And when they say that they are in the purgatory, is where the creatures appears and humanity can't see them
Her outfit and guns actually changes each game. I love the outfit here but I preferred her beehive haircut from the first game because it resembled a witch’s hat. The new outfit and guns for 3 are my favorite though, they’re so cute.

You know, that's very valid critiques! I guess the reason why there was no story in the trailers was because most of the people who would be interested in Bayo 2 already played the first game. Also, her outfit is made out of her hair! Hair is one of the conduits for a witch's magic (it came from the myth that long-haired women were more likely to be targeted by succubi or were witches, or something of the sort). They use it to summon Demons as well. That's why when Bayonetta performs special attacks, some of her outfit disappears, the hair she used to weave her outfit was used to summon demon limbs/parts/blades! Obviously it was designed for eye candy for whoever enjoys that but at least they came up with a reason behind it :P
Which totally makes sense that these games and the sequel, was made for those that played the game and understood the story already. But since we are seeing stuff for first time for most of these we always enjoy the hand holding 🤗😇

These trailers reminded me of the first time I watched the conclusion to the Resident Evil series of movies starring Alice. I came out of that movie dizzy from the 2,000 camera cuts used in every action scene.
One thing that was a godsend is when the production for 2 got cancelled Nintendo were the ones to bring it back with the exception being that it would have to be a Wii U exclusive which for some people didn't like because they didn't have a Wii U but with those who already had a Wii U and who had also played the first game were very excited, myself included. And now we're getting a 3rd game which now there is a trailer out for it which is slated for this year which I really hope is the case.
If you seen Bayonetta as her younger self (Cereza), she was considered so cute, babies would be jealous lol. Both Bayonetta and “Cereza” stole the show in the first game.

I think even the DMC 1 trailers had the "Flock off feather face" line in it. I always thought it was a funny thing to and it's a pretty iconic line to me like "Hail to the King baby". Also one of the more interesting things you may see in the Bayo 3 trailer is it has a few more DMC references in it. Bayo 1 has some as well and it was the teams first game after leaving Capcom a year before. They're based in the same city, Osaka, that they were before and it's even the same town as the DMC team and I think a few other notable devs. We don't know how often but we know a lot of them talk to each other and former Capcom people likely have gone to work with Platinum over the years. The team is notoriously small and would be considered indie by most but because of their skill and connections they still get to work on these bigger games. Despite some problems they just try to do what they want even if it hurts them a little. Kamiya is probably their biggest guy but he's got a ton of projects all at once and his most recent game was a Shmup mobile game. He likes those a lot and adds Shmup sections to a lot of his games so people aren't surprised but you could imagine people's frustrations waiting for the big projects to get out. He's not the director on Bayo 3 but people believe his position of "Super Producer" is both funny and telling of things are there. That is he's unofficially the director while he works on other things like with Bayo 2 and Wonderful 101. Again they're a small highly skilled and talented group that has expanded and puts out great stuff but they just got to much going on.
Her guns don't heal her. She uses special lollipops to heal her, make her stronger, invincible, and give her more magic. She just uses the guns to fight and summon the limbs of her demon which is the giant humanoid woman with butterfly wings.
Bayonetta and her red-clad, silver-haired friend is Jeanne. They are both Umbra Witches, practitioners of the dark arts, whose powers stem from the moon. While their powers are "dark" and aligned with things people generally consider evil (Infernal Demons, Inferno/Hell, etc.), Umbra Witches aren't actually evil by default and are actually one of two clans that protect and govern over humanity. The Lumen Sages are their mirror clan, being comprised of those who follow a path of the light and Angels. Both clans possess time-manipulating abilities (Light Speed for the Lumen and Witch Time for the Umbra). Witch Time is one of the biggest reasons behind the success of the Bayonetta games imo. When perfectly dodging enemy attacks or incoming threats (vehicles, natural disasters, etc.), Umbra Witches activate Witch Time, which is like one's own personal slow-motion mode where time slows down for everyone around the user. In-game, dodging an enemy attack and slowing time down for them while you dish out some major punishment and having it all land the moment time resumes for your foes is insanely satisfying! Because real-world witches were sometimes believed to channel their power through their hair, hair is a major theme in the Bayonetta series. Bayonetta's suit is made out of her hair, which is imbued with magic and allows her to summon forth various demonic entities from Inferno. The reason why the suit becomes a leotard and/or disappears entirely is because the hair used to make up her suit is also the same hair that opens the portals her demonic allies use to travel from Inferno to Earth with. Umbra Witches go through intense training and all undergo a training regiment known as the Bullet Arts, which allows Umbra Witches to 1) wield weapons using both their hands and feet as well as 2) instantly familiarize themselves with any weapon by simply touching it (which is nice because the games provide us with an insane arsenal of demonic weaponry). This is why Bayonetta is able to use up to four weapons, such as her signature quartet of guns, Love is Blue, at any given time. All in all, Bayonetta is an iconic female video game character from an iconic and insanely fun series of games where no one can stand in your way (the plot of the games is a hairy situation that I won't get into here lmao). She is a fashionable, powerful, and snarky woman who takes zero shit from anyone and does whatever she pleases. I'd seriously recommend playing the Bayonetta games on your own time or something like that if you guys can too! Lastly, Bayonetta 3 is set to release this year on October 28th and currently has three trailers out you guys could react to :)
Bayonetta is a witch and so is her friend, Jeanne. The story is a little convoluted, even when you directly play the games it gets a little weird the first time around. But basically Bayonetta is a witch that kills angels to please demons so she doesn't get dragged to Hell herself. As long as she keeps them happy, she has the ability to summon demons through portals to help her in battle. What happened at the beginning of this game is that one of those summoned demons stopped obeying Bayonetta and attacked her, so Jeanne saved Bayo and got herself dragged to Hell. Bayonetta has a lot in common with Dante as she also has a human parent and a supernatural one: her mom was a witch and her father was a Lumen Sage, whereas Dante has a human mom and a demon father.

Bayonetta series is really fun and bayo her self is a bad$+$-- and I have some facts for you 1. She can summon demons aka the mosnters you saw through her hair which btw her entire outfit is made of her hair she can wear actually clothing and such that's just her battle ready attire, 2. She knows combat style called bullet arts where if I remember correctly it'd martial arts mixed with guns and 3.shes in smash bros released as dlc in smash for wii u and return in smash ultimate

Given that both this series and DMC are from same creator and deal with hellish and angelic entities, there are fans who consider them to be part of the same universe. I like the concept because of fan theory that Jean (d´Arc), Bayonetta´s friend is Vergil´s yet unseen romantic partner. Unseen because events of Bayonetta games prevented her from appearing in DMC games and her suddenly going missing was what pushed Vergil to raise Temen-Ni-Gru and get Sparda´s power to protect himself and those he cared about. There are things in games that do not fit well with this theory, but not much that contradicts it and I just enjoy the thought that Vergil went nuts because of yet another tragedy that he could not prevent rather than simple obsession with personal power. Jean was daughter of Queen of Umbra Witches during their heyday and heir to the throne. Cereza (Bayonetta´s actual name) was born of forbidden relationship between Umbra Witch Rosa and Lumen Sage Baldur, born with one Eye of the World and potentially most powerful of all Umbra Witches. Cereza was raised in main stronghold of the witches under guard and since Jean was being raised and educated there as well they became friends even as their power made them rivals. In modern times Jean works as a history school teacher in Germany (moonlighting as a vigilante dressed as Japanese anime sailor warrior) with Bayonetta posing as a nun in a church next door because she thinks it is funny, given her primary enemies are angelic entities.
Don't worry if you guys got confused, Bayonetta's story has that effect on everyone the first time. lol By the way, this series was created by the same guy who created Devil May Cry. Jeanne, the witch in red with white hair, is a little nod to his former creation.

Enzo is a Devil May Cry character though and he’s in Bayonetta.
So, her "suit" is actually her clothes that is her hair. She and Dante were created by the same developer and director Hideki Kamiya. Nintendo actually helped finance and publish the Wii U and Switch version of Bayonetta. As a result Bayonetta 3, for now, is a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

Platinum has a super cool style of games that I really enjoy; one of my favourite games (by Platinum and in general) is a game called Astral Chain, which has a similar combat system as Bayonetta.
You should definitely check out the 5 trailers for Astral Chain, it has a super interesting and compelling story, cool cyberpunk aesthetics, awesome music and atmosphere and very good voice acting and characters!

Bayonetta 2 is a very complimentary game to 1, they essentially form a single story, but what is interesting is that 2 serves as both a sequel and a prequel, creating a perfect loop.
Fun fact is that the design of many of the angels in Bayonetta games... are actually fairly close to how they really were supposed to look according to biblical descriptions and whatnot. And yes, that also means they looked pretty effed up. The human-like angels you're all so familiar with are considered to on the lower end of the angel ranking scale. Basically the more f***ed up an angel looks, the higher its rank is.

So a bit of lore context, you two got many things right just from the few lines in the trailers. Yes bayonetta is a witch an umbran witch (the umbra witches worship the demons of inferno and the moon) and so is her girlfriend jeanne, Bethany was correct bayonetta in this game is in fact on a mission to save jeanne from inferno the place where dead witches get dragged to so that they will suffer for eternity, Ken pointed out that her outfit was sorta like venom and he is half right her outfit is her hair and the reason why it goes away when she is summoning demons is because for bayonetta to do that she also uses her hair to summon portals or wicked weaves as they are called. The masked enemy is named balder and I don't want to go in too much depth about him since he is a very interesting character all that I will say is that he is a lumen sage the opposite clan of the umbra witches (they worship the angles of Paradiso and the sun). If you want to learn more about the lore of bayonetta I would totally recommend checking out the videos "the lore of bayonetta" the first and the second one in tiptoe the tank those two videos are really detailed and very informative.

Surprisingly, Platinum did a lot of research on the Angels, and it shows.
Not spending much time on the backstory mostly comes down to this being the second game. Most of the trailers expect you to know these things.. or not care for them anyway^^
To me it's surprising to see how much actual story content of the second game they show in these trailers. If you know the world and the story of the first one, you know all the characters except for the Lumen sage she fights and the boy she meets in hell.

In terms of the Dante similarity it's because both games were made by the same guy but he wasn't allowed make more devil may cry games so he made bayonetta instead.

Finally! I'm glad you guys got around to this series. It's so over-the-top and ridiculous, IMO the gameplay is more fun and fluid than DMC. A small bit of info: Bayonetta has several pacts with demons, and she uses her hair as a conduit to summon the demons (hence turning naked).

Her outfit and guns actually changes each game. I love the outfit here but I preferred her beehive haircut from the first game because it resembled a witch’s hat. The new outfit and guns for 3 are my favorite though, they’re so cute.

You know, that's very valid critiques! I guess the reason why there was no story in the trailers was because most of the people who would be interested in Bayo 2 already played the first game.
Also, her outfit is made out of her hair! Hair is one of the conduits for a witch's magic (it came from the myth that long-haired women were more likely to be targeted by succubi or were witches, or something of the sort). They use it to summon Demons as well. That's why when Bayonetta performs special attacks, some of her outfit disappears, the hair she used to weave her outfit was used to summon demon limbs/parts/blades! Obviously it was designed for eye candy for whoever enjoys that but at least they came up with a reason behind it :P
Which totally makes sense that these games and the sequel, was made for those that played the game and understood the story already. But since we are seeing stuff for first time for most of these we always enjoy the hand holding 🤗😇

One thing that was a godsend is when the production for 2 got cancelled Nintendo were the ones to bring it back with the exception being that it would have to be a Wii U exclusive which for some people didn't like because they didn't have a Wii U but with those who already had a Wii U and who had also played the first game were very excited, myself included. And now we're getting a 3rd game which now there is a trailer out for it which is slated for this year which I really hope is the case.

I think even the DMC 1 trailers had the "Flock off feather face" line in it. I always thought it was a funny thing to and it's a pretty iconic line to me like "Hail to the King baby".
Also one of the more interesting things you may see in the Bayo 3 trailer is it has a few more DMC references in it. Bayo 1 has some as well and it was the teams first game after leaving Capcom a year before.
They're based in the same city, Osaka, that they were before and it's even the same town as the DMC team and I think a few other notable devs. We don't know how often but we know a lot of them talk to each other and former Capcom people likely have gone to work with Platinum over the years.
The team is notoriously small and would be considered indie by most but because of their skill and connections they still get to work on these bigger games. Despite some problems they just try to do what they want even if it hurts them a little.
Kamiya is probably their biggest guy but he's got a ton of projects all at once and his most recent game was a Shmup mobile game. He likes those a lot and adds Shmup sections to a lot of his games so people aren't surprised but you could imagine people's frustrations waiting for the big projects to get out. He's not the director on Bayo 3 but people believe his position of "Super Producer" is both funny and telling of things are there. That is he's unofficially the director while he works on other things like with Bayo 2 and Wonderful 101. Again they're a small highly skilled and talented group that has expanded and puts out great stuff but they just got to much going on.

Her guns don't heal her. She uses special lollipops to heal her, make her stronger, invincible, and give her more magic. She just uses the guns to fight and summon the limbs of her demon which is the giant humanoid woman with butterfly wings.

Bayonetta and her red-clad, silver-haired friend is Jeanne. They are both Umbra Witches, practitioners of the dark arts, whose powers stem from the moon. While their powers are "dark" and aligned with things people generally consider evil (Infernal Demons, Inferno/Hell, etc.), Umbra Witches aren't actually evil by default and are actually one of two clans that protect and govern over humanity. The Lumen Sages are their mirror clan, being comprised of those who follow a path of the light and Angels. Both clans possess time-manipulating abilities (Light Speed for the Lumen and Witch Time for the Umbra).
Witch Time is one of the biggest reasons behind the success of the Bayonetta games imo. When perfectly dodging enemy attacks or incoming threats (vehicles, natural disasters, etc.), Umbra Witches activate Witch Time, which is like one's own personal slow-motion mode where time slows down for everyone around the user. In-game, dodging an enemy attack and slowing time down for them while you dish out some major punishment and having it all land the moment time resumes for your foes is insanely satisfying!
Because real-world witches were sometimes believed to channel their power through their hair, hair is a major theme in the Bayonetta series. Bayonetta's suit is made out of her hair, which is imbued with magic and allows her to summon forth various demonic entities from Inferno. The reason why the suit becomes a leotard and/or disappears entirely is because the hair used to make up her suit is also the same hair that opens the portals her demonic allies use to travel from Inferno to Earth with.
Umbra Witches go through intense training and all undergo a training regiment known as the Bullet Arts, which allows Umbra Witches to 1) wield weapons using both their hands and feet as well as 2) instantly familiarize themselves with any weapon by simply touching it (which is nice because the games provide us with an insane arsenal of demonic weaponry). This is why Bayonetta is able to use up to four weapons, such as her signature quartet of guns, Love is Blue, at any given time.
All in all, Bayonetta is an iconic female video game character from an iconic and insanely fun series of games where no one can stand in your way (the plot of the games is a hairy situation that I won't get into here lmao). She is a fashionable, powerful, and snarky woman who takes zero shit from anyone and does whatever she pleases. I'd seriously recommend playing the Bayonetta games on your own time or something like that if you guys can too! Lastly, Bayonetta 3 is set to release this year on October 28th and currently has three trailers out you guys could react to :)
Bayonetta is a witch and so is her friend, Jeanne. The story is a little convoluted, even when you directly play the games it gets a little weird the first time around. But basically Bayonetta is a witch that kills angels to please demons so she doesn't get dragged to Hell herself. As long as she keeps them happy, she has the ability to summon demons through portals to help her in battle. What happened at the beginning of this game is that one of those summoned demons stopped obeying Bayonetta and attacked her, so Jeanne saved Bayo and got herself dragged to Hell.
Bayonetta has a lot in common with Dante as she also has a human parent and a supernatural one: her mom was a witch and her father was a Lumen Sage, whereas Dante has a human mom and a demon father.

She can summon demons aka the mosnters you saw through her hair which btw her entire outfit is made of her hair she can wear actually clothing and such that's just her battle ready attire, 2. Given that both this series and DMC are from same creator and deal with hellish and angelic entities, there are fans who consider them to be part of the same universe. I like the concept because of fan theory that Jean (d´Arc), Bayonetta´s friend is Vergil´s yet unseen romantic partner. Unseen because events of Bayonetta games prevented her from appearing in DMC games and her suddenly going missing was what pushed Vergil to raise Temen-Ni-Gru and get Sparda´s power to protect himself and those he cared about. There are things in games that do not fit well with this theory, but not much that contradicts it and I just enjoy the thought that Vergil went nuts because of yet another tragedy that he could not prevent rather than simple obsession with personal power.
Jean was daughter of Queen of Umbra Witches during their heyday and heir to the throne. Cereza (Bayonetta´s actual name) was born of forbidden relationship between Umbra Witch Rosa and Lumen Sage Baldur, born with one Eye of the World and potentially most powerful of all Umbra Witches. Cereza was raised in main stronghold of the witches under guard and since Jean was being raised and educated there as well they became friends even as their power made them rivals. In modern times Jean works as a history school teacher in Germany (moonlighting as a vigilante dressed as Japanese anime sailor warrior) with Bayonetta posing as a nun in a church next door because she thinks it is funny, given her primary enemies are angelic entities.

People like to call Bayonetta "Dante with boobs" but I actually found Bayonetta a better written and more fun character than Dante who really carved her own niche in the 'batshit crazy action game' genre.
