Back when Chevy was innovative. I remember my dad brought this truck home when I was in kindergarten in 1999 and was railing on about the 5.3 being a corvette engine. Now it's my truck with 237k miles on it.
Had my 1996 with 5.7R motor took it to 577k on every original power train item, replaced it with a 2000 Z71 with 5.3, took it to 475k under the same conditions. Still have a 2002 with 5.3 with 350K, runs excellent. Who knew when this video was made how good the LS engine would be? Almost unbelievable!
He is right. The 4.3 is a beast on longevity. I have one with 300k and burns no oil and great compression and driving. Also have a 6.0 and 5.3 truck. Oh yeah forgot to telI you i have truck collecting issues.

I remember this episode when it came out! It was very impressive, as i had just driven my uncle's new 98 Silverado with a 350 V8 that would roast the tires off the line! I've owned a 04 Sierra, 07 Sierra Classic, and a 06 Yukon. Still have my yukon and will never part with it and the 4x4 works great. Just recently sold my 07 Sierra I had since new for a 2018 Sierra 4x4 SLT with the 6.2 lt.
I sold my 98 Silverado just a couple years ago. I had it since 2000. Still ran like a champ. Not one leak and had 230k miles when I sold it. Was painful to watch her go. Such a good truck
I’ve had 2 of these 1 was a 2000 5.3 that made it to 365k before Iowa ate right through the frame. Just bought a 1999 with a little rust but still very solid with 214k With the 4.8 I’m hoping I can make it a 500k mile truck. I love how cheap they are to maintain and own
Two weeks ago I bought a 2002 short box, with an extended cab, 4WD and the 4.8 engine. It has 280K miles on it but I swear it runs like friggin' sewing machine. Also has a receiver hitch and a spray in bed liner. It needs a brake line and some detailing. There is rust in the usual places (rocker panels) but the frame is 100%. A couple of small dents, dings, and scrapes, but nothing terrible. Paid $1200.00 for it, I swear on my mothers eyes. I'm still looking for the ticking time bomb that would explain the crazy low price. I haven't found it yet.
I had a 2000 Extended cab Silverado Z71 that I bought with 193k. It was very well taken care of and literally looked and drove like a new truck. I kept it for about 5 years and now a friend of mine has it at close to 300k, still looking good and running good. These trucks are awesome

My Dad has a 2000 just like mine with cloth seats and a Ls and his has 389k on it and its still going the engine has been rebuilt but stock tranny we run our trucks every day and they are still going strong "Like a Rock"
I almost bought my dream truck last year, a 2006 LBZ 3/4 ton with 260k and all the options I wanted, but the price wasn't right. Had to pass as hard as that was. I ended up picking up a *CLEAN* 2000 5.3 1/2 ton Z71 with 147k for almost 1/3rd the price and haven't regretted it for a second. I love my 1st gen, and it's definitely a 'til death do us part truck. Like a ROCK!!!
In a lot of ways I like this gen Chevy truck better than the 2007-2013 generation. The dash doesn't crack like the 07-13 trucks. These trucks have more reliable engines, the 07-13 trucks had all kinds of expensive issues with the displacement on demand system(which if you got a tune and made it run on all 8 cylinders, all those issues went away). Yes the 07-13 trucks might have looked a bit nicer, fit/finish, body gaps were better, but as far as just being reliable/durable/cheap to own they were a definite step backwards IMO.
Sorry to add on, but that last part about being reliable/durable/cheap to own/cheap to fix, that is IMO the core mission of a pickup truck. Toyota still owns the crown in that category, despite the domestic offerings giving you more power, better fuel economy, nicer interiors, more features, the Toyotas still have that durability/ruggedness/cheap to own factor figured out better than anybody else.
@@claytonwhitacre1335 Trucks don't rust where I live in the south. Might have a different opinion on this gen Chevys and Toyotas if that were the case, but where I live they run forever with minimal repairs/$$$$ thrown at them.
I believe the 07-13s are that way because of the economy of the time and the bankruptcy they faced. They defintley cheaped out horribly on the interior and body materials.

I actually feel the same way...i have sat in the back of the 1999-2006 ext cab models and I too feel like the rear bench seat of my 1992 ext cab model has more room....I think it probably has to do with the design of the rear bench seat, in the older models the bench seat is more simple in design and with that comes more usable seating space, where the newer models have a rear bench seat design that cuts out the form of 3 seats, which makes it have less seating space...….all i know is that my 2 daughters have rooms to spear back there in my 1992 c1500 ext cab, actually both of them could lay their whole bodies down like if they were in a bed and they can sleep very comfortable whenever we go on long trips, but then again they are 6 and 7 years old...but regardless like i said, i myself have sat in the back of my truck and the new trucks and for some reason my trucks rear bench seems more roomy.

Original owner of my 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended cab 4x4 5.3 L in pewter. I can’t justify a new truck. I realize inflation, but today’s trucks hold nothing over my Chevrolet that I paid $26 k which was a lot of money but today’s trucks are cheaply made.
2000 Z71 5.3 ext cab, exactly like the red one in this video. Just hit 310,000 miles an the only thing ever done to it has been u-joints. Watching these video makes me sad I'm 37 and I live in genesee county Michigan where there was at one time until early 2000 a lot of gm factories in the flint area. But everyone was gm through and through in my opinion this was the last body style that was like a rock besides the body it rusted very prematurely but I've seen lot of these trucks on the road barely holding on but the drivetrain still runs like brand new my brother n law has one with 379,000 and a week ago changed the front end parts. After owning 3 2008 to 2014 half year I no longer drive GM trucks only Ford now. But I wish gm would go back to how they were in the past.

0:35 absolutely killed me xDDDD motortrend just fuckin sending that thing sideays lololololo
Good trucks!
Mine is a 99 Ls package with 332k and still pumping out power
I have the 2001 GMC Sierra, we craned the ole 5.3 out and put in an LS1 out of a 2000 Camaro SS. I utilized the MS3 cam and stage 2.5 5.3 heads and headers. The transmission has been servo and shift kitted. These trucks aren’t just tools they’re packin’ some effin muscle. Me gusta andar por la Sierra muy pegadito a la Sierra.
I have a 2002 with the 6.0 and the thing is bulletproof great motor
That engine will out last you, I couldn't kill one in a 2007 GMC Savanna 4500 cube van
I have a 2003 Silverado basic standard cab with crank windows it has a 4.3 v6 seems like a good engine and trans only had to change the distributor it has 130k miles I live in Jersey so I have no rocker panels left and the fuel lines rotted out lol but other than general maintenance I cant complain for an older truck
My 2001 4.8 still kickin with 240k miles
Original owner of my 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended cab 4x4 5.3 L in pewter.
I can’t justify a new truck. My 2000 model truck is built so much better than trucks twice what I paid back in 2000.
I realize inflation, but today’s trucks hold nothing over my Chevrolet that I paid $26 k which was a lot of money but today’s trucks are cheaply made.
I loved my 2002! miss old blue! 230,000 mi
2000 Z71 5.3 ext cab, exactly like the red one in this video. Just hit 310,000 miles an the only thing ever done to it has been u-joints. Sounds awesome with the right combination of cats removed and flowmaster str8 piped that is rusted out just enough to sound awesome, piss off the neighbors and rattle your teeth. 😂. The radio has stopped working but thats it.
I have my dads 2001 4.3 120,xxx lol runs like a dream.!!
I got a 99 silverado I'm about as old as it and It's running amazing even though it was parked for 7 years lol.
*New Truck: exists.*
*Motor Tend Award's: it's free real estate.*
i cant wait to drive my 99 3 door 2wd 4.8l gonna be a blast
99 5.3 z71 210k still running strong
I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado it runs like a top 178,000 miles I’ll never sell it
2019 these chevys are still strong
Yeah I have one
Lol everywhere
Which is better 1988 to 1998 or the 1999 to 2006?
Вот это настоящий американский пикап!!! Атмосферный V8, спартанский салон, и харизматичность.
Жаль что такая эра пикапов проходит, что уже электро-сильверадо представили(((
These were the hottest trucks back at that time. They looked cooler than any other truck. The new chevy, not so much
Good video
Imo 99-06 is the best truck ever built
My buddy has an 02 with almost 300K on the engine but the 460LE has givin him his problems
This might be a silly question but..
Is there any difference in the 4.8 engines in the 99 to 06 years??
main reason im asking this is because ive watched a couple different videos like this but in one video it says that the engine creates 270hp, the other video said 285hp and this one says 255
I have a 2000 with a blown out diff its a 3.73 gear ratio someone help..shes a beauty..i cant find a rear axle in southern oregon or up in central..
Did they make the 99 with 4 doors?
2018 and 232,000 later, my silverado is still kickin' with the 5.3 l v8
I remember My dad taking 12 year old me to go pick up his Brand new fully loaded 1998 K1500 step-side Silverado Z71 Dark Copper Metallic. It was at a discount as the New 1999 Silverado was on it’s way. He’s still has it with 170k miles. Im trying to buy it from him. It’ll look nice next to my fully stock 2003 Silverado. 😎
The most comfiest seats in any truck tbh
Them good ol days!
4 wheel discs standard? Oh, so my drums must be an upgrade on my 05 Silverado right? I do love the 5.3 V8 though 😁
In 2005 they went back to using rear drums to save money. 99-04 came with 4 wheel disc brakes.
The top trim at $35k in 1999 is $53k in today's money. bang on with what luxury trucks cost today. So based on this, trucks haven't gotten more expensive.
5 Years Later
How many horsepower?
Best of the best
Have a 99 and it isn't a bad truck. They are getting harder to come by. Going to restore it to give to my daughter for her first truck.
Ohh we need to go back to this time
Dang!! The silverado was more affordable back than in 1999
long pen No kidding
Almost zero computer tech in the Silverado back then.
long pen Party like it's 1999.
The Chosen One
Wrong. It's completely computer controlled.
turbolq4 How exactly?
Nice trucks
Add a Apr heads bolts & a turbo and you can run 800hp easy. Just the wimpy 4L60E transmission won't hold up but the 4L80E will.
Its that the trucks ambulance 1999 diésel 3500 ?
Other than the rust they were awesome
I have a 99 z71 LT trim with a 5.3 turbo charged
