Another great looking feeding Patrick. Typically the root vegetables do take a bit longer to breakdown for the worms. I need to stay active of adding more bedding to the feedings.
It is amazing to me how quick the volume goes down...without adding bedding this time, when I rotate it under and harvest in 60 days, the tray will probably only be 2/3rds full! All root veggies tend to take longer as well for me except for the occasional carrot piece...but then again sometime carrots take forever for me too!! It's been almost a month and the pineapple top is still noticable and mostly intact, but it's getting really soft and slimy. This next feeding there will be much less of it left. It's fun experimenting 👍

I did my tower earlier this evening. I harvested one tray and added two more inoculation trays. So that is three inoculation trays on my system now. Once the top feeding tray becomes the harvest tray and the oldest inoculation tray becomes the feeding tray I will add another inoculation tray to make a total of five trays. It's a good job that you understand all of that, someone else would think it gibberish 🤣
I think I'm fairly sorted now with the moisture and pot worm problem that I mentioned.
I starved them and put them in the baking sun 😰No I didn't do that 😁 Have fun, Mark : )

Huge feeding! They really chomped down the previous feeding in your Vermihut. I just fed our outdoor composters today. Found in one an infestation of red ants! 🐜 I put some diatomaceous earth to hope they go away! I never saw them around here before.
It is so fascinating to see what we fed previously and then try to find any resemblance of what was in there!! Compost worms & their helpers are so amazing!! Ants!! Somehow the colors of the two cameras appear to be much better matched than in the past. Have you changed cameras? Or have you done something in the video editing software to make the footage from the two camera match each other better? I like it - looks nice 👍🏻
Towards the end there when you were spreading the last of the bedding on the surface I felt as if I was watching someone prepare some kind of gourmet dish, or maybe some sorta pastry. Now I'm in the mood for a snack! :)
Soooo, I'm glad you mentioned that...I have noticed that as well and haven't had the time to try to figure out how to match them better. I use an iPhone 14 for the A-roll and an Insta360 Ace Pro for the angled B-roll. I use Final Cut Pro on a MacBook Pro for editing. I'm hoping the Final Cut Pro software has some ability to try to sync the colors, but I probably need to watch some RUclips videos on how to do it. I just got lucky this time...or perhaps it was all the black towels I put around the area that prevented the weird lighting. Ironically Autumn takes pictures with my iPhone while we're filming and a lot of the time the HDR screws up the colors by brightening them so much that I can't take screen shots or import them into Final Cut Pro with out it washing out or being super bright in spots, especially around my gloves. No issues when I screen shot straight from the videos. Ok, lots of rambling on my part about editing but I constantly try to get better, especially as you challenged me early on to get rid of the "black rectangles" on the sides of my early VermiHut videos😂🤣😂 I'm guilty of watching worm videos hungry as well...and It's usually when your mom has given you something from her soups or deserts that make me want to snack!! I haven't really had to do too much matching of dissimilar video content to make them appear to have a common color profile. I believe that the Davinci Resolve video editing software that I use has some functions that will do it more-or-less automatically.. but I don't have a great deal of experience doing it. Here n' there, when I include some short clips shot using my iPhone with the main footage that's captured with a GoPro, I eyeball it to the best of my ability to make them as similar to each other as I can. But my methods are crude at best.
If the good looking result you got here was just a sort of coincidental matching, then it is unfortunate that it's (presumably) not repeatable. These are the sorts of things that I too wish I knew more about. Color grading is certainly an art form that I have only a novice-level understanding of :)
So, I tried to automatic color match in my editing software with my video I just released after this one and it looked worse so I reverted back to the original...I'll figure it out eventually...manually eyeballing it in the software may be the way to go until the automatic features gets better.
I have tried the automatic feature of my software too & had a similar outcome. Eyeballing it seems to work well enough for me & might be the best I'll ever be able to do :)
I keep trying to eyeball it on my latest videos and still no joy...maybe I need to get two of the same camera instead of using my iPhone??!? Eventually I'll figure it out!

Thank you!! I'm so glad our channel has been helpful!! The one thing that's inevitable after getting your first worm bin is that you'll want another soon after!! Once you are 3-4 months in and you've kinda seen what overfeeding looks like (we all do it early on) and how much your worms eat and how fast they reproduce...and probably after you have harvested you worm bin once, I'd say that is the soonest I would make the step to a big outdoor worm bin! Big being a relative word when it comes to worm bins, the worms will reproduce to fill their bin without having a "die off" due to mass reproduction...they reproduce to fit their space. So taking some of your worms and starting a new bin will always help expand your population and your castings production! I hope this helps!! Let me know if I answered your question sufficiently. What is the recommended climate temperature for these things a friend of mine bought one and she says one year it stayed too wet and caused a bunch of dead worms and the next year it dried out and killed all her worms
Red wiggler compost worms do pretty good between 50-90℉ (10-32.2℃). In my experience the do really well (lots of casting production and reproduction) between 75-85℉ (23.9-29.4℃). The most common issue with new worm bins is over feeding which leads to bins that are too wet and begin to ferment, rot and cycle nitrogen producing ammonia. This is what happened to one of my first worm bins. The solution is to add more bedding and skip a feeding or two. Drying out of a bin usually happens due to skipped feedings or changes in season from hot to cool weather or vice versus. In Florida we turn the Air Conditioners on almost non stop starting in May and this tends to dry out the bins so the solution I use is to give them more juicy foods like cucumbers, watermelon etc. Up North they turn the furnace on in November and that tends to dry up the air as well. I try to control the moisture in my bin with the foods I feed them. These worm towers take the guess work out of moisture control because they drain out of the bottom if it's too moist and they have a breathable lid that traps moisture in real well. So as long as you don't over feed, and you give more bedding with each feeding there will not be any issues! I hope this helps!! Hey Patrick, you do such a great job with innoculating the bottom tray, I think I have a way that you could speed up your entire system. Instead of using dry shred with each feeding why don't you use shredded cardboard from the inoculating tray? Put new shred down there and repeat with the next feeding. You could be slowing down the process by adding new cardboard in the top feeding tray instead of taking advantage of the inoculated cardboard down below.

It may interfere with my 80/20 rule of worm farming (and life really😂) where 20% of the effort or work will get you 80% of the results and that last 20% of results will take 80% of the time and effort...but it is worth a try!!
