On this ride we come across something new, two poles with all kinds of equipment attached. You can see it in the pre-movie, but of course it's somewhere along the way. I was informed about this in advance via the IAM (Information To Drivers) so that it doesn't scare me ;-) Who of you knows what this construction is, and who mentions the time stamp where it is? (I have pinned the answer in the comments) We start the ride on this chilly morning at 2 degrees Celsius. Once in The Hague, the warm morning sun shines and fortunately everything looks a lot more pleasant by then. Do you see anything new in this movie? And what do you think of it? Enjoy watching!
Op deze rit komen we iets nieuws tegen, twee palen met allerlei apparatuur eraan. Je ziet 'm in het voorfilmpje maar hij staat natuurlijk ergens onderweg. Ik ben daar vooraf via de IAM (Informatie Aan Machinisten) over ingelicht zodat ik er niet van schrik ;-) Wie van jullie weet wat dit bouwwerk is, en wie noemt het tijdstip waar het staat? (Inmiddels heb ik het antwoord gepind bij de reacties) We beginnen de rit op deze kille ochtend bij 2 graden Celsius. Eenmaal in Den Haag schijnt de warme ochtendzon en gelukkig ziet alles er tegen die tijd een stuk aangenamert uit. Zie je nog iets nieuws in deze film? En wat vind je ervan? Veel kijkplezier!

A train selfie station. Does it send tweets?
Haha! Well, the right answer is mentioned by many of you. This is a system that monitors pantographs and bogies and is intented to prevent damage to the infrastructure. Thanks for the humorous suggestion by many of you, we had a great laugh :-)
that would be SUCH a cool but useless feature. a trackside camera programmed to take a picture and tweet it everytime a train passes.

Ik vermoed dat het de installatie is om storingen op de/met de pantograaf op te sporen zoals deze ook staat bij de ingang van de spoortunnel zijde Hoofddorp.

I don't know if this is a real question, but I consider so. This equipment at 15:20 is obviously a trackside monitoring station. Loading gauge sensors, pantograph position and temperature sensors (and perhaps thermographic sensors), hot box detectors are placed on the masts. Seemingly, there's an array of strain gauges on the rails of opposite track, measuring dynamic wheel loads to determine wheel/axle/vehicle overload, load distribution anomalies, and load offsets.

Apparently, they didn't include dragging equipment detectors in that. They mustn't have bought the silver or gold package instead of the platinum one.

15:20 - Het is een systeem wat foto's maakt van de stroomafnemers van passerende treinen en deze doorgeeft aan de werkplaats. Zo kan gezien worden of een stroomafnemer vervangen moet worden en kan dit preventief gedaan worden bij de volgende onderhoudsbeurt in plaats van als het te laat is (veel schade aan bovenleiding mogelijk!). :-)

Leuke toevoeging van het aantal kilometers!
Na heel lang googlen ben ik er alleen achter gekomen dat het aan het Negen Viertel in Driebruggen is, vlak na het tunneltje over de Opweg, en dat het meetapparatuur betreft, maar wat het precies meet is me niet helemaal duidelijk. Snelheid lijkt me sterk, want de baansnelheid is 130 km/u en dat wordt gewoon door ATB gehandhaafd. Vijf jaar geleden is deze plek onderwerp van discussie geweest omdat omwonenden klaagden over geluidsoverlast, maar de meetapparatuur lijkt me wat uigebreid om alleen maar geluidsniveaus te meten. Ik ben heel benieuwd wat dit nu precies meet!

I like the "distance travelled' indicator (for some reason). The graphics are good, and you would not want to clutter up the screen with unwanted information, like altitude and windspeed. Excellent footage. Have a peaceful new year!

Ik verwacht dat het bouwwerk een soort grote sensor is die allemaal verschillende aspecten van de trein fotografeert, meet en checkt of alles nog wel klopt. In Amerika worden die veel gebruik voor de lang vrachttreinen om te controleren of alles nog kits is met de wielen en dat er dus geen scheuren en dergelijke zijn opgetreden. Deze is echter wel best hoog dus ik vermoed dat het niet alleen het onderstel controleert maar de gehele trein.

Does it scan the passing train looking for defects?
15:20 minutes. Are they an array of sensors to measure track bed deflection caused by trains of different weights and speeds? Here in the UK in certain regions (Anglia and Lincolnshire) we have some very low track speed limits because of the underlying substrate suffering from liquefaction from the pressure wave caused by a combination of speed and weight. The water table in the NL tends to be higher and you have more tracks built on structures of a similar technological composition to the Afsluitdijk (brushwood raft embankments). They are close to Opweg that passes underneath the track.
I have had to deal with track over liquefaction type soil and the solution wasn't reduced speed, but moving quickly and not sitting on the same area of mushy ground. Often geo-textiles are used to combat that, but marginal lines, they likely won't rebuild. What is weird is when water is squeezed out of the soil as the equipment moves over the tracks. In the old days in swamp areas, they would lay trees in the direction of the ties and then lay trees over that in the direction of the rail, pound clay on the perpendicular stack, and then the ballast and track. In our area, cypress trees were used and like with the wooden pilings under NL's cities, if they don't dry out and air can't get to them, they don't decay.
Misschien een tijdelijke installatie voor werktreinen?
Portaal op 15:20 en ik zie naast de snelheid ook de afgelegde afstand naast de snelheid en waar in het traject we ongeveer zijn. Ziet er leuk uit om meer informatie te geven, maar ik zou ook prima zonder kunnen. Waar het portaal precies voor is weet ik niet, ik gok dat het iets met indicaties en uitlezen van sensoren in de trein te maken heeft.

Dat camera systeem is om een deel van de technische controles over te nemen. Nu is het zo dat een monteur om de dag een controle uitvoert op een locatie waar de trein op dat moment stilstaat. Dmv dit systeem worden er beelden van de trein gemaakt en is het mogelijk dat de monteur achter zijn computer de beelden bekijkt en op deze manier de controle uitvoert waardoor de trein kan blijven rijden en niet speciaal hiervoor uit de dienst hoeft. Mochten er wel bijzonderheden worden gezien dan gaat het stel alsnog aan de kant en gaat en monteur zelf kijken wat er nou aan mankeert. Hoop dat het zo een beetje duidelijk is?
Dit dacht ik ook, camera voor semi automatische controle van het dak.

Surely at 15:20 is inspection equipment to verify if the train has been properly washed. This is dual purpose, public relations and for the removal/minimising of friction caused by accumulation of dirt.

Ik vermoed dat dat 4G/5G masten zijn die vermoedelijk via de bovenleiding (of rails?) ervoor zorgen dat er in de trein sterk genoeg signaal voor WiFi ontvangst is die natuurlijk ook de locatie enigszins moet bepalen....
Is de nieuwe toevoeging de aantal km dat het is dus bv 1 km dat je vanaf Utrecht bent?

Het is vgm iets waarmee de staat van de trein gescand wordt zodat de monteurs sneller informatie krijgen over mogelijke storingen op het treinstel

De #kilometerteller ..... Een leuk feitje: bij 03:40minuten zie je aan de linkerkant het busstation met een dak in de vorm van een trechter, in Stuttgart (D) maken ze op dit moment een station met zulke pilaren waarin tevens een raam zit zodat het daglicht in de ondergrondse hal valt. men bouwt daar een doorgaand station ter vervanging van een kopstation. Erg indrukwekkend. (#dezeinformatiemagjeookdirectvergeten) 🙃

By the way, that joke was a reference to a current joke around people who got a chance to see inside the USAF SAGE (Semi Automatic Ground Environment) facilities. Among the macabre jokes was "If the air conditioning dies we all cook before we can get to the doors." It was a huge vacuum tube computer integrating radars all over the country and providing ground control to pilots to dispatch them to unidentified potentially enemy flying objects entering US areas of interest. It knew where each of its planes was, how fast it was going, what direction it was going, on and on, everything about the planes "including the names in the pilot's little black book in his bag under the seat." Yes, I was one of the lucky/unlucky ones who got to see the inside on a guided tour when I was in college.
Somehow that joke seemed appropriate here. That's a monster out there.

The new Hogwarts train requires these sensors. These test poles will be put to the test before the new Harry Potter movie during train trials. The two real poles, both from Warsaw, couldn't make the trip. So they decided to use these metal ones. Still looks good over there. Fine here too in Puebla, México... R.T. West sends...

@@atfundum Dat kun je vaak opmaken uit het seinbeeld voor je. Bij 13:44 zie je dat het sein geel toont, wat betekent dat twee blokken verderop het spoor bezet is. Maar tegenwoordig kunnen we ook in onze tablet zien wat er voor ons rijdt en of het vertraging heeft.
