And his purist playing style is still what you see in this video: no jumping around, grimacing, or other bombastic theatrics. Just the best f**king guitar you've ever heard! richard --
I'm a die hard DT fan but to be fair, this performance is definitely nowhere close to the best guitar I've ever heard. But he's like 10 years old here so that's not the bar were looking at. It's more about the fact he's playing at about a 17 year old's level.
Once a genius…always a genius. Here’s the proof. Fitting that in 2024, Derek Trucks is known worldwide as one of the greatest guitarists who ever picked up the revered instrument.
Bassist / singer Will Lee + drummer Anton Fig are both from the Letterman Late Show's World's Most Dangerous Band / CBS Orchestra The guitarist on the far left with the long bangs is Eliot Easton, most famously of The Cars. I'm not sure who the other balding-like-me guitarist is. He's good, too! If you know, please Comment.
I was so confused not knowing any of the Band at all besides Derek,he was almost that young when I saw him with the Brothers so many years ago in Gainesville Florida, the first time I learned about Warren Haynes too. I went to see and hear Dickey but I got two pleasant surprises! This Band combination was TIGHT
The young slide guitar Jedi had not yet learned to fully channel his power with The Force. But he would soon become the greatest Jedi Knight the slide guitar world has ever known!
What a talent, constantly learning from the guy's on the stage with him, you could see him watching and listening to their phrasing then adding his own to the mix, pure genius for one so young (at that time) 👍🙌
He was lucky to have been born into a family of professional musicians who saw his talent ! He is like a national treasure developed by American artists
I love Derek and his playing but you have to admit that he is Duane's legacy. Duane was THE ONE... Derek has followed that path to the benefit of all music lovers. I just wish Derek would explore some more improvisational paths lately... I love what TTB does - best live and in the land but Derek can give us more. Just my opinion...
Saw him in Dallas opening for Joe Satriani in 1998! Didn’t know him and didn’t put it together as to who his dad was. He blew my mind that night. Been a fan ever since.
The guy with the rooster haircut and red shirt is the late, great Greg Baril. He was apparently a great influence on Derek during their time in Jacksonville.
Right, the first time I saw Derek he wasn’t much older than he is in this video. He was playing in a club in Jacksonville called Magnolias. Baril opened up the show.
First time I saw him with ABB around 1999 / 2000…. Portland Meadows. He just kept getting better from there. Solo work was solid. “Already free” stands the test of time, still a great lp! He’s awesome
Saw him at a small bar in Mobile, Al. When he was maybe 12,13? The band had to push him up front to play. He was walking around before the show and I thought he was the kid of a band member. Nope, he was the star. Tore it up as you might suspect.
Derek did not need the other two guitarists up there. His precise unreal tone and playing were enough for this tune. I would rather here his guitar with the bass player and drummer then those other two boring pasterurized blokes that needed to sit that one out!
We all gotta start somewhere! I played my first professional gig at age 14, in 1982.. lol.. Made $80, and thought I couldn’t come down from the high, for 24Hrs.. haha.. He was obviously very talented already, was smoother the Elliot… :)
And Anton Fig on drums! Started with Duane and Dickey and finished with Warren and Derek. Four of the greatest guitarists of all time. There may have been a better band than the Allman Brothers Band, but if there was, I haven't heard them yet!
I think that is Will Lee on bass and lead vocals and Anton Fig on drums, both of whom played in The Late Show With David Letterman band led by Paul Shaffer. I came here to watch a young Derek Trucks do his thing and double-took when I noticed who the two older members of the band were. Cool.
Oh, my. 2 adult guitar players who cannot manage an in-tune bend. Sorry, Elliott. I love your playing with the cars. But please never again cover a Robert Johnson tune. A generic rhythm section and singer. And a 13-year-old Derek Trucks (it the 1992 date is to be believed--Dereke looks much younger than 13). Derek was the lone adult musician on the stage. At the end when Elliot and the other bad blues guitar player are trading licks with Derek, both lean over Derek, apparently attempting to demonstrate their blues prowess. A calm, cool, child cuts the to their knees.
Thirteen years old@ wowza!
Looks 10 or 11 incredible
His comfortability with the entire neck at that age baffles me
He's now the best in the world.
When you grow up around some of the greatest musicians in the Southern rock world, you get this at an early age.
Only IF...you have talent!
"That's just about as good as I've ever heard it..." B.B. King
That was very moving when he said that. He was right.
And his purist playing style is still what you see in this video: no jumping around, grimacing, or other bombastic theatrics. Just the best f**king guitar you've ever heard!

Derek Trucks huh? I'm thinking one day he'll be a star.
That guy was born to do this
Thanks for sharing
Even then he made the whole band sound better great players don’t show off they elevate the whole band
Once a genius…always a genius. Here’s the proof. Fitting that in 2024, Derek Trucks is known worldwide as one of the greatest guitarists who ever picked up the revered instrument.
Thank you so much!❤️
Might be the best slide man in the world.
@markweaver2439 that's exactly what Johnny Winter said about Derek! That there's the end of the discussion!😊
@@brianwells4507 That’s incredible! I had no idea. Could you please write back and share Johnny Winters quote with me? Thank you so much Brian.❤️
Or is it Mark or both? To whomever, many thanks. You guys are great!
Was lucky enough to see him play with the Allman Brothers that summer in Toronto. Eye opener indeed.
Was lucky enough to see him at this age during this time, and with His own band. Living in Jacksonville has its benefits!
With The Allman Brothers? This Summer 2024?? ABB resurrected???
Iv'e easily seen him 15 times from Derek Trucks Band to Tedeschi Trucks Band, he gets better every time I see him
Plays the same guitar today, awesomely! 💙🎶🎵

Thanks for the band ID's. I knew I've seen them before but that was several decades ago.
Thought that was Will, thanks for the confirmation!! Long time Sadowsky player!
I love me some Will Lee… a la Justin Johnson
The other guitarist is Bugs(?). After some research this looks like (Bugs) Henderson. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugs_Henderson
The young slide guitar Jedi had not yet learned to fully channel his power with The Force. But he would soon become the greatest Jedi Knight the slide guitar world has ever known!
May the Force be with you
He brought balance to the force😂
Yup greatest slide player alive
What a talent, constantly learning from the guy's on the stage with him, you could see him watching and listening to their phrasing then adding his own to the mix, pure genius for one so young (at that time) 👍🙌
and he’s still kicken ass today !
Tedeschi Trucks Band (Susan Tedeschi is his wife) - GREAT band!
How many mullets does it take to turn on a Marshall ?
Derek played around Atlanta during this period. He loved baseball.
Wow. That kid is going to be great one of these days!😜
Nah, he peaked here. Lol
Saw him about 4 years later in a Wings Plus restaurant. Played like a pro! Amazing.
He was lucky to have been born into a family of professional musicians who saw his talent ! He is like a national treasure developed by American artists

Damn , boy never missed a beat 🤘🏼
I’d pay to see Clapton’s reaction to this 🔥 of course Derek has toured with Clapton many times over the years
The alien from planet Guitar.
Saw him sit in with the ABB at 12.
He had the same expression on his face even then, if you could call it that.
Keep an eye on this kid!
Saw him in Dallas opening for Joe Satriani in 1998! Didn’t know him and didn’t put it together as to who his dad was. He blew my mind that night. Been a fan ever since.
Butch was his Uncle
@@markg1689 dude, you’re right! Ha.
It don't get much better than this. Thanks for posting.
Elliot Easton is amazing and has his own style on top of it.
Is that Will Lee and Anton, 22years younger?
The boy has potential. If he practices a lot, he may be famous one day.
Always looks at the neck even today
The extra that some folks have is just great, the kid grew up to be a monster player, oh lordy lord did he ever !!
Who took the second solo? Who was that guy?.
That was way cool.🎸🎸🎸. Especially since I think the guy in the blue shirt setting up the amp is a Klingon.😮😅

@@roberthamlin6638 I too saw Greg there many times. I enjoyed the artist that used to paint the upside down rock star portraits while Greg played.
Who is the guy smoking with the really tall hair?
This young bloke has a brilliant career waiting for him . Simply stunning
Yeah, you might be a little late to the party!
Derek is totally Rocken the mullet…wonder if he’s still got the same SG..❤
First time I saw him with ABB around 1999 / 2000…. Portland Meadows. He just kept getting better from there. Solo work was solid. “Already free” stands the test of time, still a great lp! He’s awesome
I believe his first SG was stolen at some point.
All those melted faces 😮
Saw him at a small bar in Mobile, Al. When he was maybe 12,13? The band had to push him up front to play. He was walking around before the show and I thought he was the kid of a band member. Nope, he was the star. Tore it up as you might suspect.
Same, Pittsburg PA 1993 maybe. His first (bar) tour I was told
1:30 kid had to states them boro blues lmao
I seen him play at the junk yard in Orlando you just knew him was going to be big🤘🏻
The firt Minutes if he play, says all... He was born in Musicanes Family,, alle aroun iflusants full of Music... Sorry my bad English....
Is that the same guitar hes playing today? Crazy
So did Derek already meet the Devil at this point...? Maybe it was later when he SIGNED ! great video tho !
LOL! Tell my friends I'll be around?!!!
Will Lee ?
Bugs Henderson on 3rd guitar.
R.I.P Bugs.
Good call, didn’t recognize him…Bugs was good too…but damn always so loud…it hurt
Derek did not need the other two guitarists up there. His precise unreal tone and playing were enough for this tune. I would rather here his guitar with the bass player and drummer then those other two boring pasterurized blokes that needed to sit that one out!
Yup. As butch and sundance would say “who are those guys?” lol.
When your dad is in one of the biggest bands in the world you get introduced into music at a young age

Unfortunately unwatchable. Camera man has adhd. Just minimize it and listen to it while u surf something else- a great treat to hear!
Some people are just meant to do what they do!!!
I just hope he does not get Tinnitus....which is not very nice. Great video, thank you.
Thank you for your comment. Even though you are really young, you are good at playing the guitar🎸🙆
Also thank you.

Mkay.
Whose the vocalist Bass player???

Elliot Easton was guitarist for The Cars.
💪♥️🎸 COOL
And that's what music is about, folks. It's called talent. Not a lot of that going around...
❤❤❤
Has anyone who is/was great who started when they were 30..? because all the greats seem like they've been playing since they were embryos...!
I know who Derek Trucks is. Who is this bass player? Dudes got a decent voice.
He's Will Lee. He was the bass player for the house band on the David Letterman show
Ok … I quit playing guitar
He sounds like Duane way back then
Lol. Grown arse adult saws into a kid and he” the kid” answers the call.
Hes already light-years past those guys.
Yep
Don’t know the third guy but Easton is pretty good!

Lots of out of tune playing here. Sorry you had to suffer through that, derek.
