I remember playing this in 4 player co-op. We beat the game in one sitting. I was the Wizard and the early parts of the game were ROUGH since everyone else was able to kill stuff before me. However, by the last few stages I was able to single-handedly clear out rooms before anyone else could do much. So, not a bad game by any means. It was a solid rental.
I also distinctly remember the announcer sounding like he said "death has a beard"
Yup, that's what we were saying. :)
I use to play this game (and dark legacy) with my dad and my sisters we had so much fun
Gauntlet legends for the N64 was my jam growing up.
I was addicted to it back in the day
This comment requires more energy!
Yeah the only problem with this game is its length. It's extremely fun, especially with friends, but it's the shortest Gauntlet game of all of them and to be shorter than the NES versions, that's... not good for being multiple consoles in the future. It just wraps up with no fanfare, in fact, you think it's going to keep going... but it just ends.
They really could've done more levels and this game would've been great.
Okay, that makes sense. As the N64 ones were looooong with tons to collect/unlock.
Because the gameplay itself looked fairly fun.
@@trtx84 Dark Legacy is the longest so far and I know it's a rerelease of Legends but still
That pirate village is channeling Billy Zane's Phantom ending.
I picture "Elf" with a voice like Kif Kroker. With the sigh once he learns his new name is "Elf".

*Stops eating spaghetti that I made for my mom*
The crucifying caught me off guard lmao
I remember reading about this game in an old EGM or Game Informer and there was going to be a Thespian or Tragidian class, basically an actor bard-type class that seemed so cool. Super hard to find any information on it now :-(
Loved the idea of it
There was also going to be a Lancer class as well.
One of the few games my dad and i played together, loved it
Not as good as dark legacy, but had a decent blueprint that I wish had the chance to grow and evolve from
This was the only gauntlet I played. We had a copy of it laying around when I was a kid growing up. Not gonna lie me, my bro, and my dad had a hell of a time with it
Me and my friends played this game religiously back in high school, we had no prior knowledge of gauntlet, and we had a blast. Co-op is a great time on this game
In some ways I treasure this game since it’s the last game I ever bought from my local dvd store before they shut their doors forever. This game is a trip in so many ways but the things they did in it were so cool.
Matt: Gackt
My anime nerd ass: *Transported forcibly back to middle school*
Actually enjoyed this game, played it recently with my nephew and we had a good time.
If I knew this game played like this, I'd have actually rented it back in the day.
This was one of my favorite PS2 games back in the day.
The two Gauntlet games from the ps2 era were surprisingly really good. I do hope Matt checks out whatever was the newest Gauntlet is as I never seen anybody mention it
Gauntlet (2014) was by Arrowhead, the developers of Magicka; I had a good time with it. It just wasn't Gauntlet Legends, which made people aggressively ignore it.
Not as experimental fun as Magicka, not as much variety and word progression with lots unlockable like Legends and Dark Legacy, and it also has a pseudo rogue like feel with random dungeon generation
As someone who grew up with TMNT 2K3, thank you
I remember really liking Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone for the PS2 back in the day. It kind of reminds me of this, where it's a mission based hack and slash. Was it any good? I honestly don't remember. I had fun with it, though.
I loved Demon Stone
*Characters called by their class* "Murphy...you are a elf"
"Are these the new- what are these?"
We... We call them lamps?
I beat this game with the Barbarian on the PS2 version and loved it!
Dark Legacy is the best one. This one's alright.
The ebony sorceress with the Afro had the biggest pair of crystal 🔮 I'd ever seen, those were the days....
@@Eblis840 I thought the blue valkyrie was hot.
Lol lame
I highly reccomend either metal arms glitch in the system or the king kong game for ps2.
The official video game based on the movie is fucking amazing!
You can throw spears at dinosaurs and even set them on fire or attach smaller creatures to the spears and cause other dinosaurs to fight one another.
@@qwertyness3565 fucking........ What?
I absolutely LOVED this game!!! I’m still wishing for a remaster with only party search
I picked this up when it was first released as B/C for the 360, and just started seriously playing it a few weeks ago
I'm disappointed in myself for not putting any real effort in it for so damn long.
My family and I played the hell out of Dark Legacy, we loved the tone of the game. This one, like many, just changed the feel too much. Ive heard a few people enjoy this though! However for me and my family at the time we were so dissapointed.
I always liked this game. Its a great 4 player Co Op time with some friends
I loved this game as a kid, I played it with my dad. I played elf and he played warrior. It’s some of my favorite memories.
I’m shocked to hear it didn’t to well because it was top Tier gaming To me at the time.
I LOVE this game. I didn't realize people didn't like this game until now. I loved playing this game with my dad when I was young.
The games pretty short. And if i recall correctly people wanted more enemies on the screen at the same time (Ala dynasty warriors). I had fun with it but it was more a rent for a weekend type thing.
I remeber renting this game back in the day and I loved it I jammed the valkyrie the most.
Talks about a character named Warrior, mentions Hulk Hogan...fails to take the joke to it's logical conclusion.
If I remember right John Romero is listed in this game’s credits
I miss gauntlet, the newest one I played on PS4 was a let down
I remember playing the Xbox version of this game, around launch. No clue why so many people hated it, it's got a lot of fun gameplay to it. My only guess is that people saw "reboot", and wrote it off purely because of that.
Still waiting on my spiritual successor (or formal successor) to Dark Legacy. I just want tons of content, a barebones story, and tongue-in-cheek unlockables with goofy powerups just like the old days.
This game remind me a bit of Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone on ps2
Would love long plays of games like this!
The combat itself was good, but I think the main issue for this game was the real lack of variety of stages, lack of items like 3 way shot x-ray glasses, mythical beast chars, and the cheesy goodness of the voice narrator.
I used play this a lot with my friends, but we still agreed that Gaunlet Legends/Dark Legacy was just more fun.
Was a solid game in my teens, think the reason it wasn't that popular is it didn't exactly follow the style of previous games. It was a fun co-op game, I recall my only gripe with it was how short it was.
better than that dark alliance game that came out on ps5
Given you mentioned it; the DS version of Gauntlet was *complete* when it was cancelled. Leaked *final* builds are super easy to find.
It was covered by a ton of outlets, got a rating from the ESRB, and was just never released for whatever reason. Shame, it’s honestly quite impressive for the DS. Could make for an interesting video in this little Gauntlet mini series sometime.
Bro Eragon was my life for like 6 year's
I liked it, but I also remember beating it in a single afternoon and that was a little disappointing for me
sweet more Gaunlet content
Blue Valkyrie needs food *****BADLY*****
I can JUGGLE?! This is JUST like Baldur's Gate.
I felt it was too easy for the most part. Food was in abundance and magic regenerates so I hardly ever felt worried. Also significantly shorter than Dark Legacy with little to no replayability, quick to fully max compared to DL's 999, left my characters easily maxed early. Still enjoyed the combat but it did get repetitive in such linear maps.
Few things me and my family didn't like about this game are the short playtime, and it had far fewer enemies. We loved going into a level and there would be several groups of baddies we would have to clear out just to get to their generator to stop them. The soundtrack was an absolute banger in GDL. The arcade style was just the best.
My brother and I literally almost beat this in one sitting. it's super short, and I don't really care for the art direction personally compared to Legends/Dark Legacy, but otherwise, it's pretty solid
Gauntlet Dark Legacy for PS2 is the greatest sleeper hit
@@mikemcmullen5006 I would say that was the only negative of the PS2 version
This game was stuck in the back of my head
> Not a coward
> Picks Elf
I was rather enjoying this game. Then it ended.
Sounds like my childhood.
Sounds like what I remember this game being as well. Beat it 2 player co-op with my brother when it was new and was just left wanting more, especially given how much we loved Dark Legacy.
"All you need is a lot of meat and I'll come"
This game was my whole ass childhood, god damn I remember this so much
It’s the length of the game that let’s it down. That and the game is designed around co-op and had some mechanics that are frustrating to play solo.
man idk but this just gives me bionicle game vibes, the gamecube one where you collected heroes an stuff like that.
I always wanted to play this but I didn't get the chance to. I would like to see more games like this, see if Forgotten Realms Demon Stone can be one to play!
Did 3 player co op back in the day, the valkyrie player was so annoyed, they had loads of knockdown moves and so would think they'd got kills, but then the wizard would fireball them and killsteal...
Meantime I was the elf and just quietly wrecking face off on my own!
For some reason the elf gets a massive death laser attack. I abused the heck out of that.
I never managed to max out a character on level though, it was such a terrible slog to climb the last few ranks.
Did anyone have a problem saving character progress if I turn it off it looses all data for character
I remember being disappointed by this when I rented it, but don't entirely remember why. I think it was because all of the bosses (except for the final one, which is basically just a stage) were just slightly bigger monsters rather than the massive screen fillers they were in previous games.

*Really YES*
Man i thought this game was a fever dream. my dad brought this game home one day, just the disc, no box or anything else. I remember enjoying it, but i was also like 9
I had this game on a pirated Xbox with tons of other games, like a sexy tennis game which name i forgot, Burnout 3, Area 51, GTA 3 to SA, Halo 1 and 2, etc.
It even had a collection with insane amounts of arcade games and infinite coins, some weren't even translated, damn such good times.
ngl, i never played any gauntlet. but my guy john had this at his house and we played tf outta it
reminds me of baldurs gate dark alliance/champions of norrath
Sure, it's no dark legacy. But seven sorrows is a bunch of fun with a friend, and if you play it not looking for a classic gauntlet experience, it's not at all a bad game.
By the way Matt McMuscles there was a Gauntlet DS game in development but got scrapped for whatever reason, lf I remember correctly it was a back to basics Gauntlet type game, top down Arcadey goodness, not a bad option for a portable system like the DS.
I had just finished beating Gauntlet Dark Legacy with my girlfriend and I found Seven Sorrows for $7 at Gamestop because all they had was the CD. It was definitely short because we pretty much beat the game in one evening and I think some of the stages get more annoying later. I definitely would've been pissed if I paid full price.
"Montreal doesn't have a ren fair."
Moar liek Montfake.
And you - You are called Warrior!
"can it be the ultimate warrior?"
NOOO! WWE will strike the shite out of us
My issue with Seven Sorrows is that it doesn't include the four new characters introduced in Dark Legacy. The Jester is my favorite Gauntlet character.
I guess the tree wasn't big enough for all eight of them to be crucified on. 😛
Whoever said this game was bad has issues man this was my absolute favorite Xbox game with my bro! You can join in at any time anywhere with up to 4 people! And it was super interesting and fun.
I had this game for my 15th birthday, my dad was going to buy me a game and I had to choose between this or Soul Calibur 3. When he brought Gauntlet Seven Sorrows home and I played it, I was so disappointed that I returned it and bought Soul Calibur 3. My biggest gripes with Seven Sorrows are that it was a very short game and it had a severe lack of content, I played Legends and Dark Legacy, so I was expecting this game to blew both out of the water. In my opinion, this is the weakest in the series. Even the 2014 version on PS4 is better.
returned for another crappy game, haha Soul Calibur 3 was bad.
I really like both dark legacy and seven sorrows but I do remember being disappointed it didn't play like dark legacy
From the arrows perceive it was melee
Seven Sorrows isn't a bad game, but it's not a good Gauntlet game. Everything before was dungeon crawling and just mowing down enemies. This one tried to be more high fantasy and it didn't feel like Gauntlet.
I work at a smoke shop and I have this mailman that comes in and we talk about this game all time lol
FORGOTTEN REALMS: DEMON STONE ON THE PS2! IT'S AN EPIC FANTASY HACK & SLASH THAT YOU'LL ABSOLUTELY LOVE!!! I finished that game twice and loved it!
Wow Matt what is your upload schedule like? The content just keeps rolling out. Aww yeahhh
I highly reccomend either metal arms glitch in the system or the king kong game for ps2.
The official video game based on the movie is fucking amazing!

@@MattMcMuscles ❤ literally 20 steps ahead.
Matt, you fellow Midway fool, when you gonna play some more Rampage stuff!?
dang they have races in that game
What about Kingdom Uner Fire the crusaders on OG Xbox?
Honestly, this game lowkey whipped and doesn't deserve all the hate. I have years of fond memories playing this back to front on friends' couches. Yeah, I was disappointed it wasn't more Dark Legacy (which I played into the ground on my PS2) but it's not a BAD game - it's just not more "classic" Gauntlet. If you look at it as a brawler, on its own merits - the visual design, more grim (but still campy) setting, and gameplay mechanics - it still holds up IMHO.
Also, if you want to play more stuff in this vein, I'd be really interested to see you check out Demon Stone, a D&D action RPG that also has similarities to those LOTR games!
I loved this game!!!!!!
Been looking for this for years!! Best gauntlet game even better than the OGs. Blew my mind in the 2000s. We need more of this 😤
"Seven Sorrows" actually describes my immense disappointment playing this after the amazing Dark Legacy.
I don't think I got much farther than level 1 in this.
Me and my cousin used to run the fuck out of this game, loved this shit
That game was solid, dunno why it flopped. The story was cool, once you master all the characters and upgrade them all it’s 🔥
He got yeeted
a shame that this had to be how the Gauntlet series ended. I remember being younger and playing Dark Legacy with my brother and dad after finishing our homework. We'd spend hours helping each other with leveling up our characters and discovering all the secret relics. we could really use a spiritual successor that had options to either have online *OR* go old fashioned couch co-op
Its not how it ended. There's another game after.
@@MattMcMuscles Ah, my mistake then
Games looks fire
When i played this game, i really didnt care much for the art style. Everything was just shades of brown, what happened to the stylized designs from past games?
It played fine. But honestly it made me want to play any of the previous games. Which is a shame cause i been wanting a new gauntlet for a long time.
Wha Happun! Wha Happun! :D
Huge @oswreview crossover opportunity missed by going Elf vs. Warrior. For shame!
I guess it shall remain a O.W.N.
if you want a sleeper ps2 game, check out Whiplash, a game about a weasel chained to a rabbit, destroying capitalism.
Hey Matt, your channel doesn't allow me to turn on notifications. It states "this action is turned off for content made for kids". Are you able to change the setting so we can turn notifications on?
This sounds like a problem on your end. My entire channel is set to "not intended for kids" and so is this particular video. I can't do nothing on my part, and you're the only person I've ever seen having an issue like that. Sorry.
@@MattMcMuscles Weeeeiird! I'm wondering if it's a bug or something. Your channel is not the only one I watch with big kid words on it. hmmmm
@@MattMcMuscles Yep, that was weird, but I fixed it by unsubscribing then resubscribing and hitting the bell. *shrug*
Yeah that's A great game.
