- My first reaction to Disturbed - Prayer, the meaning is confusing, for me is not religious and more likely opposite. feels like there is even sarcasm and frustration from believers who imposes their beliefs and rules. This topic quite challenging to talk about, because it could offense religious ppl, but I just didn't get why in that case I have less rights than them to speak my position out loud ....

It's a conversation between the singer(David Draiman) and God after the death of his grandfather.
I actually think this would be a good Vocal Cover for you to do. I think your vocals and rasp would be outstanding for this song.
The song was extrapolated from the book of Job wherein God allows him (Job) to be affected with a multitude of curses to test his faith.
The chorus is definitely sarcastic, pointing a finger directly at the seeming contradiction of faith during personal tragedy (to put it succinctly).

i heard an excellent interpretation, where a man is emotionally venting to god, being honest and letting go of all formalities, calling out the big G out in a way.

"Prayer" was a kind of "radio hit" from the CD "Believe".
But a better song is "Remember" from that disk.
It was popular, and good. Also "Darkness" as a good vocal performance.

Disturbed was my first favorite band when I was a teenager. Definitely good, understandable that you don’t like it. Prayer is a decent song of theirs, I think down with the sickness, land of confusion, and ten thousand fists in the air would be good ones to try out next from this band.
I would suggest looking into Symphony X. They are a symphonic progressive metal band of the same caliber of Dream Theater imo. I think you’d love the singer’s voice.
Songs from them I’d recommend reactions to:
Oculus Ex Inferi + Set the World on Fire (Must listen to together): this is basically raw power on display.
The Accolade: much more melodic, a beautiful song really, but still progressive metal
Absence of Light: Heavy but more on the progressive, technical , and groove side than the first song I recommended.

David's family members were holocaust survivors and his grandfather had recently passed away. He's asking God to kill him or torture him, in a way. Expressing his frustration through music is the way he prays. Very tragic, but inspiring.
I appreciate Disturbed a ton and I've heard all of their songs, but they're hard to listen to for a long period of time. There isn't a ton of variety in their style, and they use most of their signature traits in every song like Queen or Iron Maiden or AC/DC. For a lot of people, that can get boring, and it makes sense where you're coming from.
I think you could really get into a band David produced called Trivium. The song I'm about to recommend isn't one he produced, but it's very epic and the solos in it are incredible. It's called Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis, and it's about Greek mythology.

I also like that you put in your song title that you are waving the white flag, because you anticipate some pushback for your review. It's a clever way to ask others to let you be honest in your opinion, so even if they disagree, they hopefully do not crucify you for having your own opinion.
"His voice, in a way, it's like a hammer." I REALLY like that description, because he does use his voice in songs like this as a percussive instrument, almost like a hammer.
Disturbed is a band with great talent, but I don't know if this is one of their greatest songs? It definitely has all the hallmark sounds of a Disturbed song, but it doesn't really stand out to me as being as strong as some other songs that I have heard by them.
I definitely didn't expect to hear a rendition of "Baa Baa Black Sheep" or a Tom Petty reference in a Disturbed reaction video, but that is what makes you and your channel unique, and I also love your impression of Disturbed at the end! 😆

If you want to try some different music from lesser-known groups, here are a couple suggestions:
Black Majesty - "Guardian" (2003 studio version on the Sands of Time album) (power metal)
The Birthday Massacre - "Looking Glass" (2008 music video version on their RUclips channel) (kind of a mix of goth/EBM and metal)

I agree with you this band has talent snd all but "this bsnd is not right for me" either. There are bands that sound a lot like other bands, and then there are bands who have their own signature sound that is distinctive from everyone else. You always know when you're listening to Disturbed. Unfortunately, it is not a sound that resonates deep with me. They have songs I like, but I am not overly invested in their music. (No disrespect to their fans or their talent.)
The band/song I would consider a close match to this selection would be Alice In Chains; a band that definitely had their own unique sound, but found different ways to make their own songs distinct from each other.

This singer is talented good screamer for those who like his voice and style but personally i dont get his voice and singing , i feel as boring his tone of voice to my ears i dont like him instinctively as singer and artist he doesnt give me any vibes ..
But it's very interesting every song with your nice talking and thinking about every topic you are so smart and awakened mind , just like you i was always been thinking that i do good things for my moral suasion and my inside being and convictions by education , no need religious intercession or something above me in heaven or something else , even if i notice when im in big trouble or fear it's an istinct to pray the Lord ...but even when things go very bad ...i call the Lord and not in a good name )) So it's all inside our minds that make our personal convictions and behaviors .

I am not fan of this band, they admit they like listen to heavy metal but they don't play heavy metal. I think it's close to numetal, which has its fans but it's different genre of music.
Slightly more hard rocking hard rock, really. Along the lines of 80s Judas Priest. Occasionally nu-metal traits like rapped vocals and crunchy downtuned riffs.
@@chrismeadows4216 I love 80s rock, even the glam metal. But I am not fan of what happened in 90s with all this grunge then numetal. Disturbed to me is on the 90s side, but that's just my point of view. It is interesting music but different mood. I would love to see more 80s stuff like Dio or ZZ Top or Alice Cooper :)
@@jacek_poplawski For me, the point of nu-metal is not to have melodic riffs or solos, but when you listen to songs like this, Stricken, The Night, or Perfect Insanity, the music is mostly melodic with nu-metal styled breakdowns thrown in, and those other songs have solos. That's not what you would get with Korn or Limp Bizkit or Sepultura, the typical nu-metal bands. Disturbed's style can be considered kind of a blend of 80s and 90s metal. Not as flashy as the 80s style and not as aggressive as the 90s style. What you'd hear in 2000s alternative rock bands like Nickelback and Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin is there in Disturbed's music. A collision of the different eras.
@@chrismeadows4216 you may be right, because I can't stand Korn and I fully support Zakk Wylde in hating Limp Bizkit :) but at the same time I am able to listen to Disturbed without bad feelings, I just not find it as enjoyable as metal bands
@@jacek_poplawski Disturbed really lean on the sounds that made them famous, even with the semi-acoustic album they put out last. It just sounds like their usual stuff but with an acoustic guitar. The songs sound very similar. I think that's where they lose a lot of people. It's like hearing 2 or 3 good modern songs over and over again. People will recognize that they're skilled, but they can't take away the deja vu every time they hear Disturbed.

Your interpretation of the song sounds spot on to me. So many people who claim to be religious are actually hypocrites who look down on the poor or anyone who isn't like them. Close minded. They should practice what they preach. Actions speak louder than words.
