I'd spring for new rigging if I were you,cheap insurance,loosing the rig is a big pain in the ass
Its definitely something that I will give serious thought to, but this is a very tight budget project.
I'm a master at boating on a budget,but I have also learned through the school of hard knocks,and there is nothing as disappointing as arriving down to check on the boat after a hard blow,to find the mast hanging over the side,with the damage that happens in the process.You will be amazed at how much pressure will be created by the rig when you are close hauled and sailing hard,even on a little boat,not to mention potential danger for crew and passengers.The amount of time and effort you are going to put into this project, makes the 300-400 euro for new rigging kind of insignificant,and it can be your final purchase in the process.My experience with Irish sailing is that it wont be long before you are out taking beating,and looking up,pleased that you have 100% confidence in your stays.Keep on plugging away,looking forward to seeing you sailing.
