The reveal that shouldnt have worked because of how casual it is but ended up working perfectly BECAUSE of how casual it is
it works even more perfectly for people who read subs. if you listen to the dub or understand Japanese and just listen to the audio, i think it is easy to think you misheard something. but you can possibly read it wrongly!
Now I understand Reiner had luck there, if he didnt screw that up they would be underground by the next episode, just how the Scouts planned for

no it's not, after fought annie, eren need to rest, sasha saved the girl and meet her dad and then got mission from hange to get annie information. It all impossible to happen in 1 day

I still say this episode right here is when AoT changes and becomes more than just another anime - the way it subverts everyone's expectations masterfully (and continues doing it throughout the series).🙏
Definitely the turning point of the series. Went from a cool anime to a GOATed anime.

😂 I love how reactors initially think the subs were incorrect and then go WHAT?! at that casual reveal. even in the manga the reveal isn't framed in any dramatic way in bold, giant text or whatever.
In the manga I could barely tell who was even talking, because the artwork was so bad back then 😂

Reiner is one of my favourite anime characters of all time. So well written. Tension in that episode was unreal then the nonchalant reveal. (Chefs kiss.)
what he endured.... the armored titan fits his character so well.. like him, unbreakable
Eren remembering their training and how they GREW UP together really got to me. Imagine someone you grew up looking up to, who taught you and was always kind to you suddenly after all those years turns out to be the enemy.
Your not over reacting Lia ... the writer was genius for revealing it in the way they did ... never saw that before.... it was super creative and I loved it too.. ❤

i remember this reveal and betrayel everywhere when it first aired lol. One moment Reiner was a big brother figure to everyone and bertholdth a introverted peer, the next betrayels.
Also, fun fact; in the previous episode (2x5), at the 10:06 mark of the reaction, you can see bertholdth in the full image about to bite his hand and transform thinking he was going to die as the tower fall. but ofc, not many people notice it lol.
This reveal feels so real, like, everyone's reactions are something we're not used to see in anime. Eren being unable to process inmediatly, everyone freaking out by the sound of the flag, etc. This episode is peak.

Believe me....there is absolutely 95% of the show you won't be able to figure out.
And that's what makes Attack on Titan's massive number of twists so good.
Always pay attention, as even things on the first season will be called back in later seasons.
Additional info: it has barely been a day since Eren's fight with Annie that the events on this episode happened, so Eren was completely caught off-guard and in disbelief with what was revealed to him (Eren was fighting Annie in Stohess District while Reiner, Bert, Connie, Sasha, Ymir, and Historia, were on their way to Utgarde Castle).
Yep. The start of season 2 plays during the end of season 1. While the second group out there getting attacked by titans, Eren is fighting with Annie in the interior. And the second group is separated without gear because Erwin already suspects there to be more moles than just Annie.

I started watching this show when the first half of season 4 was just finished airing, and holy fuck, I managed to watch the entire thing without ever getting spoiled. This revelation has been burnt into my mind and lives rent free ever since.

Now you know that Bertholdt and Reiner were the ones that destroyed the walls, which is the reason why Eren's mother ended up being brutally killed (eaten) by a titan, and the reason why Armin's grandparents (along with hundreds of thousands) died trying to retake wall Maria. And it turns out they were living, working and risking their lives together for years with the people responsible for the whole thing.
I recommend paying close attention to the dialogue in this show, there are many details that should be remembered because they turn out to be important later. It is great btw that you can watch the whole show and then go back and rewatch it and you can see all the little details the writers planted from the beginning that you didn't pay too much attention to the first time you watched it.
Also I will add that I am glad no one spoiled this reveal for you, and I hope it stays that way for all the big scenes you haven't seen yet.
It's funny to see new reactions on how casual the big reveal is. Glad you three got to this episode as this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the twists of Attack on Titan.
What gets me is the level of realism. Like, if I were in Reiner and Bertholt’s position I probably would’ve casually dropped it too cause like… how do you actually tell someone something like that? Insane writing 11/10
Even when you've seen the episode multiple times, Reiner's delivery of the 'big' reveal is still wild. Throughout the whole anime, Reiner is constantly delivering the best lines.
I think the reason the reveal works so well even though it is casual is because your brain is trying wrap itself around this huge Ymir plot twist that your not expecting the question that you have been wanting answered since episode one when fist meeting the titans suddenly gets answered!

13:00 Sasha pointing out how Annie liked sweets IS actually relevant if you think about it: sweets would've been rare & valuable. An orphaned refugee who is allegedly from the mountains wouldn't have had the opportunity to appreciate sweets, so if Sasha is right, then it makes Annie WAY more suspicious. Where did she come from that she was able to even experience sweets?
At 13:05 it seems like Sasha's just making a dumb and funny remark. But the thing is..remember how sweets are extremely rare in the walls? like, only upper class citizens from the inside can eat them and Annie was supposed to be from the exterior wall

The sudden absence of music is always a clue that Something Is About To Go Down.
I wish more animes did this. They always play music at the wrong times, or they will only cut the music a second before someone gets killed or badly injured. It's either odd or too predictable. This scene was probably the best scene I've seen in an anime.

If you back to episode 5 to see the moment when Ymir Climbed the tower, you'll see how Bertholdt was preparing to bite his hand, because he didn't know what was going to do Ymir. That happended so fast that's hard to see, but it was small spoiler of episode 6

This is the most I've anticipated one of your guys' videos since Walking Dead 7X1. Did not disappoint!
Everyone was so shocked, me and my wife figured it out during the Annie chase scene. Making them have the same hair may have been a bit much imo, I would have been blown away if I didnt see it coming.
The thing is, the reveal seems so casual but the significance as start of Reiners breakdown is unreal. He truly felt like his comrade/pal would agree and help him out

Ooh ramen at 2:40... Okay Lia, make ramen like this... chop up some green vegetables that can take boiling... like kale or collard greens or bok choy... and onions or whatever. Throw it in while you're boiling the water. You can cook meat as well on another pan... whatever you want, bratwurst or even hot dogs, etc. Toward the end when the vegetables are ready you can drop in an egg, raw egg or boiled egg. When it's done put the meat in there... mmm... Or you can put the soup in the bowl before arranging the meat on top, this is called plating 🍜🙂

Always love reactions to this because people always start like "wait what?" then when all the information is presented... it was ALL there from the start, where if you were really trying to sleuth it out, you could figure out who they were. The clues given are so random, but there are things in past episodes if you watch the boys close enough. Things like Bertholt in the background of a shot, about to bite his hand, because he believes his life to be in danger. The rewatch value of this series is actually insane.
14:37 Eren says "Hai, ikimasu desu Let's go, OK? " with it meaning "Sure, I'll go "let's go, OK?" I love that the Japanese use OK and Let's Go as casual speak and part of their lexicon unchanged.
Go back and look at episode 3, after Eren hits his head the first time. For a brief moment in the mess hall later, his head is steaming to repair it, much like Reiner did to his arm.

19:25 actually Eren did have a training for a month, 1 month after the Battle of Trost, the Survey Corps expedition begins, its kind of how they all were training for 3 years yet it was showed only 2episodes
it felt like I was peersonally betrayed you arent exaggerating it at all it is one of the best scene I have ever watched and I have watched it like 100 times

If you ever rewatch season 1 or look in a compilation on RUclips, there was much more clues that Annie exchanged with them. Some reactions of them as well, sometimes they react in the background or something. There is a scene that Annie open her eyes when Eren Titan form is mentioned and shit.

Reiner and berltold are starting to have second toughts of there "mission" cause what are seeing in here isnt what they expected, they are sometimes considered for these people but they arent supposed to... cant say more without spoiling. u will see.

sincerely my reaction was the same as the one girl in the middle, sorry dont remember who is who. i wasnt sure what was i reading as i was watching the same translation as you are right now...and im not even a anative english speaker..so at first i was confused and was blaming the translator..but then Bertholdt hold Reiners arm at the same time the sub was "Why are you telling him" that was the moment i relize it was true..that was a perfect scene.

If you're mind blown by this episode, re-watch it and pay attention to the scenes & dialogs shown whenever there's a red flag (I'm assuming / hoping you know what a red flag is in a rhetorical context). Also when you do a re-watch of the whole show, which you really should after you're through with it, pay attention to the glances, reactions & dialogs of the three warriors during season 1 & 2 before this episode. For example, in season 1 when the three are on the roof after Eren got eaten and Armin is distraught, they ask what to do now & Reiner says he doesn't know but they should all move together. Or in season 2 when the tower crumbles, Bert is actually about to bite his hand. Even pay attention to Eren, because there's already subtle hints that he was a titan during his training, like when he hit his head on the ODM gear training, right after when he's in the barracks again his head steams, healing his wounds.
