My tip, one of many, is to pay attention to what you are doing. Getting distracted from a task can cost money. Example:
Forgetting that you are cooking and then letting the food burn. Example: forgetting you have a load of wash in the washing machine..... And then having to rewash it cuz it got musty....
Set a timer if need be.... Simply put, just pay attention to what you are doing.
      Thank you Emmy and Paul.

Hi Emmy and Paul! One of my tips is to always have powdered milk in our pantry. We are not milk drinkers and every time we buy milk for a dish it ends up spoiling. With the dry, I just make and need for a recipe . This morning I made absolutely delicious Eggs Benedict using a hollandaise packet, adding the milk I mixed up, fresh lemon (always have a lemon), Ham (bought on sale, cut up and frozen in little packages!), English muffins (we like because low sugar , especially for my diabetic husband), and eggs of course.
      Hi from MB! 💕😊🏝️

This is such a common sense way to do things! Particularly for those who live in the rurals, where the nearest house can be a long, chilly walk away in the case of car trouble. You can call 911 and wait in your car instead, but by the time help reaches you, you will still be a human popsicle if your engine has failed.
I love your comment! So practical.

My money and time saving tip is prepping meals and snacks ahead of time. I take 2 hours every weekend to make boiled eggs, chop veggies, and make one or two meals that can be put in individual meal containers. These can be used for a quick grab and go or a quick heat and eat for anyone at anytime. This not only keeps us out of the drive thru but it provides a healthy option instead of junk food.

Now that I'm 78, my money saving tip is to order my groceries online and pick them up. Right now, it is free to do it that way, but even if it wasn't I would save money by not actually shopping at the store and "picking up odds and ends" as I go through the store. It also allows me to shop online in peace, at my own pace, and I can still take advantage of the store coupons. After shopping for 58 years, it has lost its appeal!

I have a part of my top shelf in the frig for leftovers and use it ups before it spoils. Usually on Saturday I make a sir fry, omelet or pot of soup with my bits and pieces. That way I don't find dead surprises on one of the lower shelves that have been wasted. I look at what I have and add rice, pasta, frozen veggies, cheese etc. and create a different meal or two. I am single so sometimes I freeze the excess soup for a night when I don't feel like cooking. The designated top shelf with labelled containers using masking or freezer tape saves a lot of waste and prevents containers that aren't recyclable by my town from going in the trash. Every week is a different concoction. I do tend to cook for two so often freeze or have a meal twice in the same week. I have cut down on so much waste by buying in bulk certain items and the splitting with other single friends or a single parent trying to stretch their budgets. It comes back to me as many of us shop at different stores at different times of the month or have access to do products through friends and family. Also my snow gets shoveled by grateful tweens or apples appear at my door from a family picking. It's all about sharing the bounty when you live in a small town. That basket of apples becomes pie filling or applesauce for someone who doesn't have time to make it. Be creative and share the wealth. We all know someone who might love some of your use it up soup after a hard day at work or just to get by.

Even with a good sized home and an active life, I can breeze through cleaning and be meal ready easily. I never have piles or clutter because the routines are now effortless. Perhaps one of the best things I learned somewhere along the line is “ if it takes two minutes or less, do it now”. You’d be amazed how much can get done in two minutes!

Hi Emmy, my favorite money saving tip is to buy a package of ground beef (usually a 2.25 pound size), cook it in the crockpot until done, drain it, then portion it out into 3 freezer bags to be frozen until needed. When a recipe calls for 1 pound of ground beef, I substitute one of these 0.75 pound bags instead. No one notices the difference in the amount of beef, and I’m able to get 3 meals from the original package instead of two.

When we're super-busy, prep, organization, and prior planning save the day, and our budgets!
When I worked full-time, I commuted at least an hour (one-way) to work each day - and sometimes more when I had to travel to one of the regional sites. (My husband commuted 1 1/2 hrs. each way in another direction.) My child was bussed in another direction at 6 a.m.All of this required a lot of coordination, thorough prep and organized efforts so things went smoothly for us all, with my family was still well-cared for, despite the long distances we were all apart.
By making sure I had adequate car supplies, such as engine oil, a car jacket and blanket, a jack, crow-bar, spare tire, plus my own stash of water and snacks on hand in the car, it kept additional purchase costs in good control.
But by far the practices that were most frugal for me were these: like you - setting out my clothing and jewelry for the coming day the night before, having a meal plan, and making sure to have everything needed for it on hand. I had to make sure I always allowed for the set-up time required before leaving home each morning to load the crock-pot for dinner, so it was mostly ready when we all arrived back home.
Then I also had to be sure to address any auto needs proactively, like gassing up, adding air to a tire, refilling wiper fluid, etc. since I traveled so much, some late at night, and our home was quite rural.

    Our great money tip-
For those With dishwashers, we place each group of eating utensils together. All spoons in one area, knives, forks… After they are cleaned, we open the dishwasher and can grab each item… no longer having to separate in piles.
We also use the baking soda that has been in the refrigerator for 30 days as washing powder and the dishwasher … it works great
Speaking of the refrigerator, we buy plastic placemats (when We find them four for a dollar).
We cut them to the size of a refrigerator shelves. When they become soiled we place them in the dishwasher. Additionally, we replace them every quarter when we do our freezer inventory, deep clean refractor including vacuuming the back coils.
Altogether these activities, save time and money.

I label them with the days of the week so I can pop one in my purse if I'm running late. The little bags are easy to open and I just put the used one in the back of the little plastic box I keep in a cupboard so I can use them again. The bottom slot was for accessories, such as belts, hair pretties, etc. To save on meltdowns (which were RARE!,) we would go over the outfits on Sunday night before bed. They had that time and that time only to revise their outfits/ choices.
When my youngest was very small and couldn’t read yet I made a picture “to do” list for her bedtime. She understood pictures. I drew out everything ( a picture of toilet paper, washcloth and soap bubbles, bathtub, toothbrush and toothpaste, a book, hearts ( for hugs and kisses) and a bed with a moon. I laminated the different index cards, used a hole punch in the upper corner and bound them with a binder ring. She looked forward to completing her chores and getting ready for bed…. When pork tenderloin goes on sale for under $2 a pound, I buy a big one and have the butcher slice it. Then I bring it home and cut it into bite size pieces. Then I raw pack it into pints and can it in my electric canner. I end up with around 10 pints of meat. That means 10-20 meals depending because there is always leftovers. Makes for quick casseroles, stir fry’s, easy quesadillas, and many more recipes. Saves so much money. We do the same with chicken and beef roast. I have several money and time savings ideas, but I want to share one my daughter does. She and her husband both work full time. They are parents of twin 9 year olds. She has hanging cubes (sort of like shoe holders but bigger) that have the day of the week listed. She gets her kids clothes ready on the weekend for the entire upcoming week. The kids automatically know what they will wear and the shirts, pants, socks and underwear are all folded together in each cube.

Great idea with the box for anything you don't want any more. When son was young and we had a stream of visitors for play dates etc, I put my box by the door and invited everyone to help themselves as they left, I managed to rehome all kinds of things that would otherwise have gone to waste!
I'm not in the US so please don't put me in the draw for the cookbook.

I bought an ODT diagnostic tool (inexpensive)based on a tip from Paul a while back. Engine light came on while driving, I used the tool and it read it was the shock sensor. Would have been much cheaper to tackle myself but I did not want to risk any issues and chose to take it in to the shop. Pricey repair but at least I knew ahead of time what the problem was in case the shop said something else was wrong.

My tip would be, if you need to hire work for your home done, get multiple quotes. We desperately needed to update a few things on the house. We had three companies give us quotes. Two were unaffordable. Accepted the third one. Also move at the speed of cash. It took us 5.5 years to save up for it, but we didn't have to take out a loan.

I use purchased 8” pizza crusts to make pizza at home. They average about $1 each. A can of pizza sauce (+/- $2), some thinly sliced garlic sausage (+/-$2), a few banana peppers (+/-$0.25), a thinly sliced tomato (+/-$1) makes 4 pizzas for a little over $9; let’s call it $2.25 each by the time you add a few spices. I cook them in the air fryer; it takes 5 minutes each. We each eat one, which is a generous portion! then freeze the other two in a large sized ziplock freezer bag for another day. I broke down a few days ago (out of pizza crust and I was tired) and ordered one from our (formerly) favourite pizza place, which does sell delicious pizza. It cost me $20 for one meal (vs. $4.50 total for my home made ones) and to my surprise, it wasn’t nearly as good. And it took longer to order it and pick it up than make my own at home. Lesson learned!
*Prices are Canadian funds; USD works out to $3.27 for 2 home cooked pizzas.
Making my own pizza crust would be even cheaper. I used to do that; but it takes a lot longer, and I have arthritis in my wrists which makes kneading difficult.
Sometimes I can get pizza crust 50% off though FlashFood. (Naan bread too, on occasion, and it makes awesome pizza crusts.)

Forgot to add $0.25 per pizza for the price of the shredded cheese on top.
So +/- $5 CDN for two pizzas.
My choice of toppings aren’t going to be to everyone’s taste, but switching them out for whatever your family likes will still result in similar savings.

As a busy teacher, I always picked out the outfit I was going to wear to work the next day, and prepared my often home-cooked lunch the night before since I didn't want to spend money on school cafeteria lunches or waste time or money running to fast food places. Now that I'm retired, I actually still do some of this, such as laying out gym clothes, swimming suit, and snacks for my workouts the next day, seeing I do both Zumba and swimming on the same days. Having my change of clothing ready to go saves me valuable time and the snacks often keep me from eating out instead of having lunch at home.

To save time and money, I will get a very large roast and cook it either in the instant pot or slow cooker, then get several meals out of it. Some of it may go into the freezer. It is great for making soups or casseroles. I either get the roast on sale, or I use a gift card to a local butcher shop that my parents get for us every Christmas. Another "time saver" is to throw some laundry in the washer and go enjoy some self care while it is washing! I like to think of it as multitasking!

I do the huge roasts too! I use a meat slicer once it has cooled. It gives nice thin slices for much cheaper than even pre-packaged deli meat from the grocery store - and a lot less sodium.
And NO preservatives! Who knows what that stuff is. Probably better that we don’t know.

I know it may sound silly, but I love making a simple meal into an event. It also saves us money -- for example -- taco night -- making homemade tortillas or homemade salsa to elevate your basic taco meat. Sometimes, we play Spanish music. Burgers on homemade buns with a side of homemade french fries -- maybe listen to 50's music. When my kids were small, we would have an indoor picnic on a blanket on the floor. My husband and I actually had a date night like this. Perhaps, you can dine outside or pack up the hotdogs and take them to the park to eat. Such a fun,and inexpensive, way to mix up the routine/mundane. ❤ Love your videos ❤

My favorite money saving tip is homemade freezer meals. It’s just as easy to make two dinners as it is to make one. Eat one for dinner and put the other in the freezer. I put some meals in a gallon size ziplock bags and freeze flat for quick thawing if I forget to take it out the night before or morning of. On busy days i use a freezer meal on not so busy days I make two dinners and freeze one. This makes life so much easier and you save money by not buying dinner out or using convenience items to cook with when you’re too tired to make a from scratch meal.

My favorite money saving tip is to use my leftovers. Maybe I just have meatloaf, carrots, and green beans leftover, but I don’t want to feel like I am eating the same meal again. I break up the meat into small pieces and combine it with the green beans and carrots. I add whatever vegetables I have in the refrigerator. Some broth and some bacon (bacon makes any soup so delicious) go into the pot. Voila! Vegetable beef soup. I go to my freezer and pull out the leftover bread I froze with garlic butter and cheese on it. Now it’s a meal! Dessert you say? Get out the peaches I canned last summer. Eat them that way or make a crazy crust peach cobbler.

Money saving tip… instead of having a bunch of clothes, I do a “capsule wardrobe” where basically everything will go together and then I use things like scarves, purses, etc… to change the outfits up. I have about 10 basic pieces I use year round and then I’ll round out each season with a few items appropriate for that time of year. Time saving tip: if you have a delay timer on an appliance, such as your washer or coffee pot, use it! I set a load to wash before I get up in the morning and part of my morning routine is to put it in the dryer and then when I get home from work, fold and put away. I do at least one load of laundry a day so that I don’t need as many clothes and I don’t have to spend a whole day washing.

I’m a canner, too. Pints of chicken, pork, or beef are the start of fast and easy “dump” meals in a casserole or slow-cooker. As a working mother of 4, planning was essential. On Sundays my children would pick out their school clothes for the week. They each had a specific spot in their rooms to keep them. I also did a lot of batch cooking on the weekend. I would make a couple of main courses such as roasted chicken or lasagna. One night would be leftovers, the other nights might be chicken casserole, or tacos from the extra ground beef I cooked when making the lasagna. I kept a list of recipes and rotated them every week. The other time saving thing for me was that my husband did most of the laundry. 😊

I can keep the thermostat set a little lower at night by using an electric blanket on my bed. I turn it on for 15 minutes while I have a nice warm shower and brush my teeth. By the time I’m in my pjs and ready to sleep, my bed is toasty warm! So I turn the electric blanket off and climb in. The residual heat from the blanket, and my own body warmth, keeps me warm all night. It’s a lot easier and more economical to warm myself up at the beginning of the night than to heat up the whole house for eight hours. And getting into that nice warm bed, as opposed to between chilly sheets, makes me feel luxuriously pampered!

One of my favorite money saving and time saving tips is batch cooking ground meat, especially when found at a great price. I will take out the equivalent of about half a pound to use in the meal I’m preparing, instead of using a full pound. I then freeze the rest, in 7-8 ounce portions for future use. When I need ground meat for a recipe later, it is so much faster to defrost a pack that’s already cooked. Thanks Emmy and Paul for all you do.

I buy only what’s on my list unless I see a great stock-up prices. I purchased one-pound butter today for $2.49, 1/2 gallon milk for $1.39, and frozen pizza (the grandkids love them!) for $2.99. I watch the meat section for great deals and markdowns. I rarely pay full price for anything. My husband and I enjoy cooking at home together and rarely eat out.
