My mother, God rest her soul, passed away on December 19th 2019, she worked in the hospitality industry for her entire life. She'd often joke, "It's never lupus, except when it's your mom, M.! I'd feel pretty strange about it, because I loved House M.D. and so did she but that's what ultimately led to her passing away. I loved my mother, I always will, we loved Bill Hicks, Tool, art, (she drew and painted a lot, I play music and sometimes draw/write). Bill Hicks statement here has always served as an inspiration for me. I know that I can make my mother proud, I know that I can do so with or without an education, as long as I am happy, I have made her proud. I'm working on a lot of things I can't talk about but today being my birthday, 9/28, I often think about both my mom and Mr. Hicks. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Have a good day!
He died of cancer it's not like someone killed him. You know how many people are aware that life is just a ride? Pretty much all of us, it's not like he knew something other people didn't, everyone know's this
"... and we can change it anytime we want. It's only a choice. No afford. No work. No job. No savings of money. A choice, right now, between fear and love." It takes a lot of reflection, and a special soul, to be able to utter these words with conviction. It shows an impressive level of awareness.
"Is there a point to all this I don't know, let's find a point. i have to. The world is like ride in an amusement park and when you choose to go on it you think its real because that's how powerful our minds are, and the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and its very brightly coloured and it's very loud; and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on this ride for a long time and they begin to question "Is this real or is this just a ride?" and other people have remembered and they come back to us and they say "Hey! Don't worry, don't be afraid, ever; because this is just a ride", and we KILL those people. "Shut him up! We have a lot invested in this ride. Shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry. Look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real!" This is just a ride but we always try to kill those good guys who try to tell us that - you ever notice that? Let the demons run amok? You ever notice that? But it doesn't matter because its just a ride and we can change it any time we want. Its only a choice - no work, no job, no effort, no savings of money - a CHOICE right now between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your door, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see us all as one. Here's what we can do to change the world right now to a better ride - take all the money we spend on weapons and defence each year and instead spend it feeding, clothing, and educating the poor of the world which it would do many times over, not one human being excluded and we can explore space together - both inner and outer, forever, in peace."
I 100% agree, unfortunately there's not very many artists who have to means and influence to affect large groups of people and who chose to use that power for good. The comedic genius and loving soul that Bill Hicks possessed was a prophetic gift from God. People like him are typically killed off when they're young - before they have a chance to make any kind of a positive impact. There's no doubt in my mind that Bill Hicks was a modern age prophet and was most likely exposed to some kind of cancer-causing agent (aside from the cigarettes - he died at the age of 32) in order to shut him up. Artists (comedians, musicians, poets, writers, painters and so on) who are blessed enough to make a career as an artist need to listen to Bill and help evolve the ideas he gave birth to during his short time here in the physical dimension. Peace, Love, and Unity to all. God bless.
@@fldan1 I have thought the same thing. Bill was 'awake' and like he said here, awake people with platforms often get killed by the establishment before they wake up too many other people. Thankfully he got his message out and many more people are waking up now. But the world would have been much better if he and the other awake people hadn't been killed. They'd potentially have woken up the whole world by now. I do think eventually a critical mass will wake up but it's just taking a while due to all of the incessant propaganda, lying, gaslighting, deceit and distractions they constantly throw at us.
Living in Houston you see The picture of Hicks with the third eye all over the city. Just random spray paintings of the picture. YOu'll be walking on a street downtown and you will just see it in odd places. Its really cool to see.
Whenever I'm feeling down and overcome by the evil psychopaths that run this world more so when they step up their control as more of us are becoming more awake, I listen to Bill and he reminds me that it doesn't really matter it's just a ride.
I told a teacher I had about Bill. "You remind me of him", I said. I hope he's watching this right know. I wish you good luck, wherever you're going to go, sir.

Its not an exact quote but I think you and all others get the point. Cheers and heres a Joint and a brew lifted to those before and after us who are real truth telling human beings. Carpe Diem!

Every year I come back to this special to remember it's just a ride. RIP Bill Hicks. 25 years later and you're still affecting lives for the better and to remind us what's important.
One of my favourite quotes from the great man. Just a wonderful philosophy. Whenever I feel like things in life are getting a bit too much, I swear a few minutes of Hicks and everything is right again...
Taylor Neal "Space may be the final frontier but its made in a Hollywood basement" The space he refers to(hicks) .. Is the meaning of space "a continuous area or expanse that is free"
in 2008 a band called Energy sampled this in one of their interludes on Invasions of the Mind, I'd never heard it and 16 years later this sentiment still lives rent free in my head. There's a sort of catharsis in letting go and giving up to the pure chaos of the universe because at the end of the day.... its just a ride...
i've been going on a bill hicks binge for the past three days and it's just now setting in that he's gone, and i don't know what's worse. the sadness of him being gone or the fact that i haven't even spoken to my family since i decided to watch everything that even mentions his name
I first discovered this in a time where I felt lost in life, but his way of seeing the world has help me change my perception that I don't need to grow to be the successful person or famous one, I just need to experience and enjoy life because "it's just a ride" and like in any ride you can only experience the real thing once
I visited his grave at Leakesville, Mississippi and paid my respects to him and his dad. The world is in for some very chaotic times and I needed some guidance from his spirit.
its all just materialism smoke and mirrors to trap your consciousness here... forever being reborn with the mind of a baby and tricked into believing its something new to experience again and again... deja vu much?
I first came across Bill Hicks in January 1990 on the TV in the UK. In those days there were only 4 channels and Bill Hicks was pretty big in the UK. He was amazing. Too bad he didn't look after himself more....he had so much more wisdom to give. 32 is too young.
One day I woke up and I asked myself the same question......is there a point to all this? When you realize that there is no point, you either A, become depressed or B, you become non serious about life......after all......it's just a ride.
its really just a game and when you choose to play, the point of this ride or game is to be the best player you can be. make life as good as possible for you and those around you and hakuna matata.
It's such a perfect Bill bit, it represents him so well. Delivered with biting humor, and underlying wisdom. A condensed nugget of philosophy from a man who knew his time was up.
I’m so sad Bill Hicks isn’t known by many people. That is, people part of generation Z. I’m part of Gen Z and Bill Hicks’ words have resonated deeply within me
I can just feel the discomfort, the cosmic panic taking place in the audiences' subconscious when he says, "...this has to be real." It's like I sense so much tension when he says that.
But we got to see it, sadly... However, we must learn from them, laugh a little, learn lots more, stand up and hit back. 2016 has been so horrible that I don't want it to end, because 2017 sounds even worse... But, it's time to work on a better tomorrow, both in small and big ways. And, I'll end with a Fight Club quote: "It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything..."
Very advanced and intelligent person, his thoughts are way ahead of its time(early 90's) Many people around this beautiful world, even today realize these wonderful thoughts...
I was nine years old when this was recorded. It holds true now as it was ever since he Mr Hicks first said it. Getting lost in the noise of the world, steeping in the b.s. of our fellow humans and falling asleep at the wheel of the car driving toward a climate crisis and burning world. We deserve better, we CAN do better. We have to keep trying and not give up. #mindfulness
Bill Hicks was truly enlightened. He frightened many as he was so ahead of his time. Would be beyond interesting to hear his take on the world now. Sadly, he died too young. He was an observer of life and brought his observations into his act. Wish I had been able to see him...
I was at a party 18 years old, and through all the noise I noticed this special on TV. I never saw this guy B4 but loved him, caught it in the middle(so I never caught his name) and thought about this comedy special for years afterwards wondering who he was, cause I was blown away with his unique, smart funny style. That was exactly 30 years ago. And i'm still blown away by Bill.
"It's just a ride, and we can change it anytime we want, it's all we need a choice. No effort no work no job no savings of money A CHOICE right now between fear and love" OMFG
“Is there a point to all this?” May be the most profound question ever asked And then the answer “I have too” (find a point) May be the most most accurate answer. Genius
Damn, his message is so profound. It amazes me that his knowledge and perspective in life is only understood by few. A lot comedian’s have stolen his material or have been inspired by him, and they did not give him credit. He’s the only comedian/philosopher that wasn’t bought by Hollywood, organization, or any corporation. The man stood alone. The man is a legend
Bill would have been 60 today but these words immortalise the man, the artist, the philosopher... I always come back to this one and "Today a young man on acid..." 🙏
In a documentary about Bill after he passed Wanda Sykes summed him up wonderfully. I foreot exactly how she said it, but it was something to the effect of most stand ups who were good would make you look at parts of life that might make you uncomfortable & then let you off the hook with a little sugar to help the medicine go down. But with Bill, there weren't no spoons full of sugar. Only truth. I feel VERY fortunate to have been on this plane of reality when he was. What a gift he was.
Ever since losing my dad and my younger brother in 2017, this bit has made me cry like a baby, thinking of them. I cry,but Bill's logic also soothes me bc the Kantian logic is there...that reality is, quite literally, what we all agree on it being. It's like the scene in The Matrix where Neo visits the guy in the restaurant, and the guy points out that bc it's all illusion, he could take a bite of his steak and have it taste like chocolate.

Man I have watched this so many times. RIP Bill, you're still making people smile today and that's pretty incredible.
Bill was incredible. A dirty old human being like the rest of us, but enlightened.
When I first saw this, I literally started living my life according to these two minutes. This is my Gospel. And even tho life can get cruel sometimes, it’s ingrained in me that it’s just a ride.
I wish he could’ve been around longer to bring us more awareness.
Yes!! I can't tell you how much I agree. It hurts...
It's possible he was taken out. He was a rare gem waking people up.
@@perpetualmotion357 It's also possible aliens abducted him. It's also possible he and Elvis are enjoying breakfast at Waffle House at the very moment. It's also possible he died of cancer. Only that last theory has any actual evidence, though. 👽👨🎤🕵️
That is embarrassing. Read a book. Don't live your life according to some nightclub comic's act.
I was gonna try and be funny. Say something like, “WTF is a book?!” Or, “thank you! Because of your guidance, I just finished the 50 shades of grey series!” Or, “I’ll live my life instead according to a RUclips reply” or, “thank you so much stranger for caring about my well being!” But why beat around the bush. I see why the comment section in social media is a cesspool. Because of morons like you. The world would be much better place if there were night club acts like Richard Pryor and George Carlin instead of presumptuous, condescending douche bags like you.
Bill wasn't a comedian. He was a prophet.
Because life is just a ride, pancreatic cancer took him to the other place at the young age of 32 saying, "you've done plenty already; you've done excellent, buddy. Time to go home now."
We're all going to die someday. Before that day comes for you, count yourself lucky if you ever see through the illusion of this life like Bill did.

I think the exact same thing about him. Literally, prophetic.
A wonderful guide that we are lucky to have had in our lifetime 🙏🙏
His words still resonate amongst those who have woken up. RIP Bill, you will never ever be forgotten. We love you.

Does ANYONE remember when the word "awakened" WAS PART OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE?

Only a choice...between fear and love. --Bill Hicks
Bill Hicks is very very very excellent I am proud as an Englishman that Britain had the sense of humour that enabled them to love and admire the man's great stand up comedy while he was alive, Bill Hicks is a comedy legend. Love and Peace to Bill Hicks wherever you are from the UK.
And love to our English cousins across the pond, dealing with Brexit, mass waves of immigration, and weak politicians. Sure hope you guys get it all sorted out.

"we kill those people"
Murdered induced pancreatic cancer
He died of cancer it's not like someone killed him. You know how many people are aware that life is just a ride? Pretty much all of us, it's not like he knew something other people didn't, everyone know's this
"... and we can change it anytime we want. It's only a choice. No afford. No work. No job. No savings of money. A choice, right now, between fear and love."
It takes a lot of reflection, and a special soul, to be able to utter these words with conviction.
This has to be real!"
This is just a ride but we always try to kill those good guys who try to tell us that - you ever notice that?

That’s pretty cool, mate.
A prophet. A true legend.
God bless.
+Daniel Marchessault You... have a very good perspective on life, I wish I could talk that way and say what I thought and felt.

Jokes aside Im a marine former killer in the para military for blackwater and worked under a few other contracts and have seen more depth to the destruction of humanity than many will even see untrue fiction....basically I had my epiphany over finding god really does exist and Im not here to debate semantics.....I just need to get it out there that there is SO MUCH TRUTH IN COMEDIANS THESE DAYS THAT THEY ARE SOMETIMES RUINED FOR IT (Dave C., Katt Williams, and of course Robin Williams RIP) Godbless you for your simple yet awesome words of truth and I also do the same to keep giving as much truth to the americans all asleep as I can but like the Matrix said....Sometimes the people who are victims of the system they are enslaved by will fight against the ones trying to tell them the truth and defend the very thing killing them. Its not an exact quote but I think you and all others get the point. Cheers and heres a Joint and a brew lifted to those before and after us who are real truth telling human beings. Carpe Diem!

I first discovered this in a time where I felt lost in life, but his way of seeing the world has help me change my perception that I don't need to grow to be the successful person or famous one, I just need to experience and enjoy life because "it's just a ride" and like in any ride you can only experience the real thing once

It’s just a ride 🍻
One day I woke up and I asked myself the same question......is there a point to all this?
When you realize that there is no point, you either A, become depressed or B, you become non serious about life......after all......it's just a ride.
its really just a game and when you choose to play, the point of this ride or game is to be the best player you can be. make life as good as possible for you and those around you and hakuna matata.

All of this it’s what one should call OUTSTANDING, but the last part... it really gives me goosebumps...
I wish we had him here now. We need another voice of reason like this.
I'm 30 and I'm spooked my parents are political and are entirely unaware.
