I fish chickamauga and hiwassee, east TN. Wish I could get more into flathead fishing. This last week has been rough fishing. Got skunked twice and a giant softshell turtle. You ain't gotta explain to me.
I weigh them down sometimes..I usually run my flathead live baits closer to the bank and the floats let the bait move around more and be more lively and also keeps me from getting hung up as much..I use them in slack water back creeks..they are a pain in current
close to the bottom..they will drift back until they hit the bottom but the bait will get active and swim out deeper..I like the bait being able to swim around and cover an area..sends more signals to the big fish

You should use a gopro on days when you think it might rain. They’re waterproof. Not the best microphone on them but at least your camera won’t need a bag on it.
I use a float w a Bluegill all the time for Bass & Pike. I'll have to try it next time I am fishing for those dagblasted Channel Catfish. Maybe, I'll catch a decent Flathead. But, until then I can't call myself Flathead Frank. Not sure if I want to catch a monster Flathead or just start out w a smaller Flathead & put in the time to catch a monster. With my luck my GF will catch the big one & I'll be ok with that. Where I fish in Mi. someone said the river is full of farm animals. Dagblasted Drum(Sheepshead)! You could fill up the bed of a pickup truck w Drum, fishing in the Saginaw River. They are getting fat eating invasive Zebra Mussels. A 6 Lb Drum is the biggest so far that my buddy caught. Dagblasted rain this morning on vacation. Going to have to try & get out early tomorrow. I am a long way away from my Catfish river. But, I might put in the time to catch a Northern Pike or if I am really lucky a Tiger Muskie. Maybe the rain washed all the loose vegetation away above a small dam & I can go night fishing after a white bellied mystery fish, that got away twice in one night on me a few years ago.

Dave you need a SHIT HOOK, I have one in the bed of my truck, a long handle with a 1/4” rod cemented in (J B Weld) with a hook bent in the end. I use mine just about every time I have stuff in the back, be handy for reaching line, float or hung up fish without having to wade or swim to bail your ass out.
Dave man... people don't watch your videos to see the fish.... sure... we all love to see a 40, a 50, a 60 pound fish or bigger.... but the reality is that people wouldn't watch you if you had a bad personality. People wanna see you man... they watch enough of your videos they feel like they know you. You a wealth of good information. And on top of that your fun to watch... some people, myself included find your sense of humor hilarious. You seen one catfish you seen em all. Hooked a 45 lb flat in the tail at a spillway with fast water once. 12 lb test and an eagle claw rod reel combo. Took me an hour to land that fish.

it was actually an 80 size..I like the bigger spool for casting heavier mono easier..it was on a Big Cat Fever spinning rod

i got a cover but it cuts out most of the sound and rain on the lens makes for a bad picture anyways..
