Reading these comments I feel like this is another slightly misunderstood Springsteen song. It’s about how even if you love someone and know them better than anyone, there’s always a part of them they will keep hidden from you. You’ll never know them completely, no matter how much you want to and how much you try. It’s beautiful and sad and true. But it’s not some purely joyful love song.

Saw him live in 2024 with my dad and we got to have a father daughter bonding moment. I was 19 and he was 61. He has seen bruce several other times, and so him getting to take me to my first ultra long concert was so special!

Those three little notes played over and over ... Bruce turns them into something that is pure magic. I suspect I will never be able to pick which song I like more, this or "The Streets of Philadelphia" .... for both are one of a kind classics.

This song is so so so very deep. Hard to believe it was (presumably) written by a man even if Bruce Springsteen, known for very pivotal and iconic songs.
I never understood why someone would choose me as their soulmate, i've struggled with it ever since i got married over 20 years ago. This song brings me to peace with myself, i now know why i chose this lady to spend the rest of my life with. My path of self destruction nearly led to me losing her, i now wake every day blessed, knowing my guardian angel saved my soul. If i die tomorrow i will die happy.

To me, Bruce is the best gift to come out of Jersey. Although I no longer live in my home state (Jersey), I will always thank Bruce for putting it on the map in a positive sense. He still lives there now, not too far from where he was born in Freehold, NJ, a town my ancestors helped to settle. No matter where I go in the world, I'll always be a Jersey girl.

To me, this song a about a girl who has been through a lot but still tries to let people in to attempt to move forward in most aspects but she’ll never is going to be her true self at the end of the day. With that said, the other person needs to accept that and still love her or leave. She’s never is going to be content with anything in her life.
