Well done Luke. You drove really well for your first time in London. That road that you drove is the Old Kent Road. Its always fu**ing shite mate. Totally aviod it on Friday evening rush hour as you're average speed will be about 3mph. Also, always check the bus lane hours of operations. Normally on Sundays, and on evenings, you can drive in the bus lane, but always check the blue signs first. But overall, well done mate. You did really well for your first time driving in London mate
I think you handled London rads and traffic really well and with great patience and tolerance. some of the road users and pedestrians down there seem to have little consideration for others. Your manners are excellent and lovely to see.
When the video first started I was thinking: "I wonder if it'll be somewhere I know" then you drove out of the gates and I knew exactly where and it's super close to where I live.
Never been to London and have no push to go simply because of the traffic so big respect for your 1st time in an arctic you did very well and a great video.
You're a brave man driving through London in an arctic. I used to hate driving through London in a van let alone a massive lorry. London is a dog eat dog world, you gotta just go for it sometimes when driving through it to get into the correct lane etc.
Those bus lanes are only active at specific times, can’t remember what the times are but it’ll say at the bottom of the blue sign at the beginning of the bus lane. It’s best not to use them at all in a truck though because it gets you away from some of the cyclists, also when you get to a stopped bus or a parked car it’s unlikely anybody will let you out.
Hi Luke, reminds me of a driver delivering to a RDC in Lancashire who handed in his car/house keys so as he had power in the cab, later when he was green lighted he drove back to Bristol without collecting his keys as he had forgotten what he had done. Really enjoy your Vlogs, good luck for 2018.
I drove in london a lot when I worked for a well known food chain, and it gets easier every time, it also helps to know where you are going, that comes with every visit. And dont't forget, as from the 25th October 2021 your vehicle has to be ULEZ compliment otherwise a big fine for HGV's of £100. The boundary will be the North and South Circular, but using the North and South Circular does not count.
You have to completely switch mentality when driving in London. Outside London, people are quite polite and sensible. In London, you HAVE to be a little aggressive because people are arseholes. You get used to the roads and getting yourself out of tight situations without hitting anything.
well, yeah, I find the same on motorway networks near cities, the closer you are, the more looney's driving at 90 and tailgating, hence why I prefer to usually just sit behind a lorry in the inside lane, much less stressful, and most artic are driven sensibly
I have passed (B,car) 5 years ago ( A2,motorbike) 3 years ago (C,lorry) 1 week ago , and I must Sey that there’s always something new to learn or to correct It’s so interesting to watch other people drive correctly while I’m sitting on my sofa , By the way I have few videos driving with the trainer in Spain under spanish EU rules For people who ask themselves how do they get licence in spain , Is like UK ( medical check, teori test, practical test ) that’s like module 1 & 3 ,
Personally, I don’t think driving in London is as bad as some people make out ! Just take your time and plod around. It’s a busy city so has certain problems like suicidal cyclists and other drivers rushing around. I think the main problem is lack of available parking when you need to take a break and Industrial Estates with double parked cars everywhere, blocking junctions etc. Obviously the more time you spend delivering in London the easier it gets as you get more familiar with the place. Just remember to have a 45 min break (whether you need it or not) before you cross the M25 on the way in........
Hey Luke, I don't know if anybody else has said but the trailer marked with 'dirty end' was asbestos removal contractors and the trailer is their changing facility. I drive part time on agency, either on curtain siders, fridges or tankers. Enjoying your video's.
If you put velcro on your steering wheel and on back of phone etc you can place phone anywhere on steering wheel at whatever angle you like etc whilst parked up etc obviously not when driving plus velcro on Sun visor eg on mirror side works great too
About the bus lanes. You just have to watch which bus lanes you enter. There's the 24 hour one where you can never enter without getting a fine. Then there's the timed ones, which are usually 7:00-10:00am and then later its 4:00-7:00pm, when you can't enter, outside of these times, you can
I drive in and out of London daily as a coach driver. It's ok you quickly learn who you need to watch out for. Also helps if you know where it going so much fun when you find your routes blocked and need to discover a alternative but not allowed to use a satnav(company policy) 🤦♂️
I do container as well, here in America. Oklahoma City to Dallas railyard and back 6 days a week, about 425 miles a day. Not too bad, I do drop and hook thankfully so no waiting and they have an app so I can punch the info in when I start the day, just scan in and scan out, about 30 seconds if no line.
just so you know bus drivers will help each other out, as a bus driver myself i help out many bus drivers everyday, so just so you know in future occasions if a bus driver pulls out or goes round a roundabout slowly it is to help another driver out. could also be used as a block in traffic for HGV drivers.
Dirty End: Bit of an extreme toilet if you also need respiratory equipment to use it.... No, it's just an asbestos extractor's decontamination room (which features a shower/wash system.) You are right about London drivers though. However the delay at lights is usually because drivers are looking around for red light jumpers, dozy peds or kamikaze cyclists. Nice vid mate! More of this please.. 👍 👍
I'm a bus driver in London, the garage I work out of is in Bromley so I don't drive routes that go into central London I just drive routes that stick in South East London I couldn't bear being in a garage which has routes that go into central London, way to stressful.
Ahh the good ol' old kent road. Then presuming you went over blackheath! All my stomping ground. Weird seeing my hometown through an HVG drivers perspective
I don't mind driving in London but the more you do it the easier you'll find it and the more confident you'll be etc Its when you don't see any tall buses or trucks etc as usually there is a low bridge or a width restriction which can be fun at times
Driving an arctic in London will only improve your driving more Luke. Like you say , you need to be concentrating so much more. Hope you had a great Xmas. 👍👍
not my fav place to Drive but it is a regular for us, to deliver or collect. As you know there are lots of idiots about. and you do see some road rage. best thing with London or other big cities is be patient take your time dont allow yourself to be bullied/ Rushed into any situation. Good Vid you done well.
Hi luke you mentioned about driving near by/passing Peckham on your way back to southampton in his vlog. Peckham, London, England; (main setting) Bristol, England; (Nelson Mandela House and Market setting) the Bristol setting was filmed behind the Bristol city football stadium pretty much.
19.49 “you never wanna go in the dirty end”, been told that by the missus loads of times 😂 I’ve given up trying! It’s an asbestos removal trailer, pop in the dirty end after work, come out the “clean” end, nice and shiny, lol.good video mate, London can be a Bastard, i still hate it after 15 years, one wrong turn and your in shit street , literally, have a good new year.👍
I've only had the pleasure of delivering to Westminster once. Mind you I was only in a 26 tonnes truck. Blasted cyclist got me. Mental up there. Well done mate
Great vlog luke. Just remember the 123 rule. And then just fucking go. Just wait for the bang. Also. Get a transport for London card. Ring then up give the details of your truck. Either pay over the phone. Or set up a direct debit. Account. Saves a lot of hassle. Sam for the darfur crossing. Just saves a shit load of time and hassle. All the best for 2018. Drive safe Russ in Hillam near Leeds YORKSHIRE.UK 👍😎😉
I've watched the first 10 minutes and I wish my London roads were so quiet, I went from Putney Bridge to Paddington (outskirts) and it took 1hour 40 mins! I do miss the driving though, gave up my licence on medical grounds and drive a mouse all over the desk in the office now *sulk*
Hi there, i drove to Buckingham Palace last week my Sat nav would not work properly. Very stressful for me, but i looked back and thought maybe it was not as bad as i thought. Have a great Xmas and may all dreams come true for 2018.
You give a great insight into the reality of HGV Driving for a living, they'll have you chained to the steering column soon, you'll become a prisoner in your own cab... That what it feels like to me
Is anyone able to recommend a sat nav for Central London driving - one which will identify weight restrictions, low emissions, restricted roads etc.. Also if there is the possibility to create custom routes as my employers give specific roads to drive through to get to destinations... I've been using tomtom and its useless! Any help would be appreciated 👍
My first time in London was in a Luton, delivering windows and doors to a building site. I got there at about 2am intending to sleep in the cab outside the site. The drive in was okay except for a few width restrictions that even the Luton didnt meet. Offloaded by 7am and then the anxiety set in. What a fucking nightmare! People wandering into the road without looking, mopeds trying to squeeze in the gap between me and buses then hammering on the side of my van because there wasnt enough room (Hardly my fault) then riding down the pavement. Then the cyclists. Kamikazes the lot of them. Ive never known rage like it. I frightened my self. I've never been made so angry before in my life. Jumping lights, jumping off the pavements into my path. Shouting and bawling at me for turning left when they run up my inside when Im clearly indicating left. I check my nearside mirrors, indicate, check again and go to turn and suddenly they are there! Then them doing the same to me and other drivers. Over taking on my right then turning left immediately in front of me???? Nutters. Ive been told that I will be going on a cycle awareness course for when I go to london in my truck (Class2) The cyclists should be going on a HGV course to see what its like for us when we cant see them. I didnt find the car drivers as big a problem. Buses were okay too which supprised me. Down where I live they are total twats. Be interesting to see what its like in a Truck. Im expecting the same. Maybe people will be more wary of the truck or maybe im just wishing...
Lol I'd never driven in London at all until I passed my class 1. Week 2 I was on the road I had a load into London. Nightmare. Still as long as you follow the twatnav you've got you'll be fine.
luke what you doing in Totton did you know a driver called John Balfour ? good luck at dock gate 21...lol used to like the southampton to avon mouth run so i could pop in to rigs n twigs :)
Cool video dude.... no issues driving in London no different to any other big city.... always gotta watch the c%=ts on bike any type of bikes.... they want the benefits of the rules of the road but don't want to keep to them
The first time is the worst, its the not knowing what to expect. Watch your mirrors carefully, always an idiot on a bike or scooter in your blind spots. Well done . Plenty of experience points in the bag for you.
@ArmageddonRacing sounds like American trucking industry lol. It'd be cool I think at some point to come drive in Europe somewhere, get paid to sort of tour it and live there like 5-10 years, enough to see as much as possible. UK however would not be first on the list for me, doubt many will hire an American driver used to driving on the right in a left hand driver side. I have no issue at all driving on the left it's when you also put the driver side on the right where it's a little more difficult. I just hug the right line more then I think I should because I've found for me I think I'm too far right but really I'm where I need to be. Mind trick lol
When you said people drive differently in London, I lived there in '89 or '90, maybe '91, I forget exactly when, but London drivers are very forgiving (back then, by my experience) and equally polite and allow other drivers to make progress. A good mantra to live by, but DON'T follow the same rules in Edinburgh, they're mostly a**holes with no care for any other driver... I hated deliveries in Edinburgh
yea paused the video looks like you were able to use the bus lane restriction was 4-7pm you said you wanted to be back by 4 so im guessing it was after 10am so you were outside the restriction
don't ever do layby's. Go over your hours to get to a decent stop over if you need to. VOSA understand you need sleep. You don't get any when you are waiting for the cab to rock.
I wouldn't want to drive an artic through London - I drive a 3.5te panel van and got an £80 fine for 'blocking' a yellow box junction. On the photo evidence the only part of my van that was still in the hatch markings was my bloody bumper/step at the rear of the van! How lorries cope I have no idea?? And as for the cyclists/motorcyclist... they moan like fuck to anyone that'll listen about not being given enough room, but you watch them come down your inside when you're sat still, totally putting themselves in danger...and it's not very often you'll see a cyclist stop at a red light, they just don't give a fuck
I got my artic license 10th of January 2012 🙈🙈🙈 first run 5 days later I’m from south east of Ireland meet the then boss handed me the keys of a bran new actros it hadn’t even seen a trailer it’s my profile picture got handed my paper work 🙈Cartwright garden London reloaded on Liverpool street off islington high street .. stressful

Thank you so much

You are a better man than I am trucking in London! Well done. I'll stick to wide open western Canadian highways! Great vids!
When the video first started I was thinking: "I wonder if it'll be somewhere I know" then you drove out of the gates and I knew exactly where and it's super close to where I live.
Never been to London and have no push to go simply because of the traffic so big respect for your 1st time in an arctic you did very well and a great video.
I do the first 15mins of this journey every weekday in my car but found this fascinating. Great to see a lorry drivers view!
Can still see fine when it's dark. Your videos are helping me with my training. Thanks Luke.
You're a brave man driving through London in an arctic. I used to hate driving through London in a van let alone a massive lorry. London is a dog eat dog world, you gotta just go for it sometimes when driving through it to get into the correct lane etc.
Big respect to all you the trucker guys! Not for the faint hearted 😳. Great video Luke 👍

Shane Bradwell 7am - 10am and 4pm - 7pm. So depending on what time he was there, the traffic using the bus lane might be legitimate.

I agree 100%. I've done my first route in London today and I think drivers are litteraly wankers. Only being agressive can help.
I have passed (B,car) 5 years ago ( A2,motorbike) 3 years ago (C,lorry) 1 week ago , and I must Sey that there’s always something new to learn or to correct

I'm Currently training for my class 2 then be putting in for the class 1 straight away, finding these videos a great insight
How did you get on with both class 2 and 1?
So glad I stumbled upon your videos. I've always wondered what it was like to drive a big truck on the other side of the pond.
Ahh the good ol' old kent road. Then presuming you went over blackheath! All my stomping ground. Weird seeing my hometown through an HVG drivers perspective

doing containers mate, you will get use to wainting for boxes and sitting on loading bay.great video as always.
Its as well that the truck is an auto makes for much easier driving, imagine when you had to deal with a crash box in that traffic
Fantastic video once again. Must be a restriction on other routes into London because that is one of the slowest in from Southampton! Enjoy driving.
sat nav would say bear left, it is a ring road between the A2/A20. it is actually slightly easier route going to the right into lewisham.
the A2, i driven down that road many many times. i too have never had any problems driving in london.
Goodbye to the boy, hello to the man.
It's probably similar to the feeling of the first time(s) I ever went into New York City and Chicago. They were high stress moments.
19.49 “you never wanna go in the dirty end”, been told that by the missus loads of times 😂 I’ve given up trying! You can keep it. Drove a truck round London for 11 years, haven't been in for 10.....here's to another 10 ;)
I've only had the pleasure of delivering to Westminster once. Mind you I was only in a 26 tonnes truck. Blasted cyclist got me. Mental up there. Well done mate
Driven an artic so many times through London, can’t stand the place
Old Kent road used to live there 20 years ago not changed to much also used to drive to Dover loads on A2
Just found your channel and subscribed 😊 love following your journeys.
Excellent video Luke well done

Looking very clear.., morning when rammed with cyclists, workers & school kids is quite testing!
Quality video mate. Hope you had a good Christmas
When you grabbed his fist you should’ve said cabbage 🥬 he would’ve thought you were having a laugh with him.
Great video 😁 looking to sit my class 2 in a few weeks 👌
"Dirty end" I like how the top right of the trailer it says "smhproducts"
You give a great insight into the reality of HGV Driving for a living, they'll have you chained to the steering column soon, you'll become a prisoner in your own cab... That what it feels like to me
The a2 coming in to London I'm on that road every Wednesday its better going in at half 5 to 6 and leaving at 7 but get stuck on the m25 North
That opening was epic luke ;-) fucking died when you said that!!!!
thats what i say every time i finish a journey there.
You can use bus lanes at certain times of the day
For your first time you did a great job Luke. I hate driving in Sheffield so i'd chuffin hate London lol xx
Looks like old Kent road. Elephant x castle to Peckham to new cross...
Try Marble Arch, Brick Lane or Whitechapel, that'll test you.
You know why they don't for for a second of two.. because the Mobile in the hand is more important.. most likely
It's always more interesting when you've got a 15'9 trailer on mate :-')

Great video mate some of the bus lanes are timed at the end of the day I can't stand the place
10 pair of eyes when driving in London village Luke
I did London once when I was on the rigids!! Right in the centre... Billingsgate fish market!! Never again!!
"I don't wanna knock anyone of a bike"
You don't think alike most us Londoners hahahahahaha
I think about punching drivers too and I'm not just saying that in retaliation . I really have the urge when I see them get out
City driving is much more exciting to watch!
Would be dope if you have more angles like those in euro truck sim 2
I get massive stress just driving my little 1 series in London lol all the random restrictions and constant two lanes into one drives me nuts.
Lol I'd never driven in London at all until I passed my class 1. Week 2 I was on the road I had a load into London. Nightmare. Still as long as you follow the twatnav you've got you'll be fine.

Cool video dude.... no issues driving in London no different to any other big city.... always gotta watch the c%=ts on bike any type of bikes.... they want the benefits of the rules of the road but don't want to keep to them
I have to watch the cunts in cars when on the bike . funny that
The first time is the worst, its the not knowing what to expect. Watch your mirrors carefully, always an idiot on a bike or scooter in your blind spots. Well done . Plenty of experience points in the bag for you.
Hey Luke well done for keeping your cool in London. Have you been to London Gateway yet???
I'm okey driving there how long its take at lease i have partner to talk
Old Kent Road
You need to be more bullish in rush hour or people will just take the piss
What's the demand for truckers like over in Europe? Curious lol
@ArmageddonRacing sounds like American trucking industry lol. It'd be cool I think at some point to come drive in Europe somewhere, get paid to sort of tour it and live there like 5-10 years, enough to see as much as possible. love the yellow face behind you all i kept saying to my self os we gonna die LOL ( driving through london lol
Are u hiding from the police or something at 2:20 u see them coming and sun glasses go on 😂😂
When you said people drive differently in London, I lived there in '89 or '90, maybe '91, I forget exactly when, but London drivers are very forgiving (back then, by my experience) and equally polite and allow other drivers to make progress.
A good mantra to live by, but DON'T follow the same rules in Edinburgh, they're mostly a**holes with no care for any other driver...
I hated deliveries in Edinburgh
Remember my first few times in london was horrible lol
yea paused the video looks like you were able to use the bus lane restriction was 4-7pm you said you wanted to be back by 4 so im guessing it was after 10am so you were outside the restriction

don't ever do layby's. Go over your hours to get to a decent stop over if you need to. VOSA understand you need sleep. You don't get any when you are waiting for the cab to rock.
Spare bunch of keys a must 😉😉
That's not that bad really from what I can see. Come drive through Dallas, Austin, or Houston, Texas in rush hour in a truck lol
Wouldn't you like to drive a scania?
Only fools n horses was filmed in Bristol funnily enough

you need to practice by driving in India, blindfolded to understand how the bmw, audi, and Prius drivers do.
