    As someone who has always found Mario World to be the pinnacle of 2D Mario, I now completely understand why Wonder was the first game to ever match it for me.

    Honestly though, I feel like SMB3 had more distinct levels than SMW. In SMW, it's mostly caves and grass worlds, while SMB3 has much mure variety. And even though SMW has different types of grass levels, same goes for SMB3 which has both the wooden stage looking one as well as the actual grass variant in the Paragoomba level

      I can definitely see that as well. When I was writing the video, I actually contemplated talking about the variety of level types in Mario 3 because I agree, they are very distinct. It just didn't really fit in with the rest of the video. Both are definitely phenomenal games.

      @@haroeneissa790 Technically not, Wonder is SMBW and World is just SWW

    Something I was very happy to see in Wonder was that the little scenes after beating a castle in Mario World returned. They're super cute, and help make you feel like you really accomplished something.

      I didn't even realize that was a similarity these two share! Very good comparison, and ya it definitely makes the adventure feel more fulfilling even if they are small scenes

    The Mario wiki page has a very long list of Super Mario World references that I don't think putting it in one comment is enough. It really feels like a modern sequel to Super Mario World simply from the first few levels.

    • @aidan_548
      @aidan_548  11 месяцев назад +2

      I'm sure that wiki page is huge! In terms of small individual similarities I could have easily made a video about at least 20 of these things

    I can attest the fact that SMB Wonder does indeed share similarities with Super Mario World which I find it so appealing.

  • @geschnitztekiste4111
    @geschnitztekiste4111 11 месяцев назад +4

    Very specific, but the in-level ground tilesets in both games have a big similarity: if you take the grass texture for example, the grass in other 2D Marios is mostly only on top of the terrain, but in World and Wonder it wraps all the way around. Same goes for sand or any other surface. Very specific but as an artists, I catch dumb details like that.

    • @aidan_548
      @aidan_548  11 месяцев назад +2

      That's actually really cool! I definitely didn't notice that at all, but it's wild that they both share that crazy little detail!

    • @geschnitztekiste4111

      @@aidan_548 Yeah totally! I‘d say it goes for the artstyle on general, the Wonder character models definitely replicate that SMW cartoonyness super well, which you touched on with Yoshi‘s example, as well. But for some reason, the tilesets is what made me realize those similarities first and from there, I was already sold since it showed Nintendo’s willingness to re-think absolutely everything about 2D Mario, like the Goombas bite animation, too. Miyamoto said they were always supposed to bite Mario, but in the NES games they couldn’t have that amount of detail and after that they just forgot about that until now.

    King Florian wants to save his sla- I mean apprentices from Bowser. Mario World Yoshi wants to save eggs. also, In mario world Yoshi can walk across spikes and "bump" on Spinies, in Mario Wonder Yoshi can't hold the player while on spikes, and will "take" Damage from falling on Spinies.

    I feel like I keep hearing people saying that “Wonder is like a new insert mario title”. Whether they say its like 3, World, or the an actual new NSMB I can’t help but feel like they are ALL correct. This video does a great job at highlighting the similarities to world, but ask anybody what how their favorite mario game is/was then ask them to compare it to wonder, and regardless of their game of choice they’ll have endless things to say.

    • @aidan_548
      @aidan_548  11 месяцев назад +1

      Definitely an interesting look at it. I've always been a huge Mario fan myself so I love all of these games (even the new soup games 😂) I just always found that out of all of them, it relates to Mario World the most. Although to give your comment some credence, Mario World is my favorite 2D game. Very valid point though!

    A few of these might be direct inspirations, while others are coincidental. But if this game got a successor with a similar gimmick, I'd like to go with a star theme since this one went for flowers. And also either go the Super Mario 3D World route where each character has differences or entirely distinct movesets ala Sonic Adventure.

    • @aidan_548
      @aidan_548  11 месяцев назад +1

      I definitely do agree that it is a good mix of intentional and coincidental. And that sounds like an amazing concept for a Wonder sequel, especially considering the development team have been hitting at a potential sequel with how many ideas they had for the first (the same thing happened with Mario Galaxy)

    • @wantedasylum1091

      We could also have a DLC story starring Prince Florian as the protagonist. And I think a large gap in the up left corner of the map of the flower kingdom alludes to that.@@aidan_548
